      Description:
During 1999-2003, the US Food and Drug Administration reported a total of 1307 processed food product recalls, most of which were avoidable. There are many areas of the processed food supply chain where significant exposure to risk exists. Additionally, there are systems that can be used in-house at manufacturing facilities, such as hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) and radio frequency identification (RFID) that can be very beneficial in recall avoidance. Effective employee training is another key point for consideration. In the event of a recall, a company must be prepared in advance with a detailed crisis management procedure. Companies should consider recall insurance, depending on their size and market dominance. Public relations strategies are critical in surviving a recall. Care must be taken to connect to the consumer and communicate a strong message. Findings from analysis suggest potential reduction of product recalls through recommended preventive measures including the use of HACCP and RFID systems.

        Description:
A review of the literature has revealed that insufficient attention has been paid to the international branding process. Following in-depth interviews with eight manufacturers from South Korea and Taiwan, a stage model of international brand development is therefore proposed. This model is a composite of three extant literatures, i.e., international branding, the Small Business Growth Stage Model, and the Internationalization Process model. The model highlights four successive and progressive stages underpinning international brand development: Pre-international, Lead Market Carrying Capacity, International Branding and Market Succession, and Local Climax. According to the proposed model, firms begin with the development of a strong brand in home markets, then, utilize OEM brands to expand and become familiar with international markets. A gradual decrease in OEM contracts and more concentration on international branding in the three global lead markets (i.e., the USA, Japan, and the EU) follow. The stage model ends with brand development deploying localization in the Third World countries. The article concludes by providing research implications as well as future research directions.

If you're lucky enough to be granted employee stock options--and if the stock is actually worth something!--consider spending a little extra to purchase Robert Pastore's pricey primer on options. Stock options can be quite lucrative, but "while the intention of management and the board of directors is to motivate and reward people through stock options, the reality is that much of the potential wealth that could come from those options is wasted. Why? "The answer is simple," continues Pastore. "Options are complicated. If people maximize the value of their options, it's usually by luck ... blind luck." Thankfully, he writes with the layperson in mind, pinpointing ways to maximize earnings with textbook-like clarity. He explains the difference between incentive and nonqualified options, including charts showing how tax consequences vary, depending on exercise date. Pastore spends considerable time on tax issues, detailing the ramifications of long-term capital gains, alternative minimum tax (AMT), and disqualifying versus nondisqualifying dispositions of stock. Clear and thorough enough for both options newbies and tax professionals, Stock Options should help make blind luck less than necessary for success in the options process. --Rob McDonald

This book helped me greatly with some stock options I got from my work. I had NSO stock and had not idea how the taxes worked out on it and when the best time was to exercise.
Well this book, I made a good decision and made $80,000 on my stock options.

4 out of 5 stars Very informative, technical, and dry........2002-01-24

Just the book I was looking for in 1999. I applaud Pastore's contribution of clear explanations regarding the types of stock options, tax implications, etc. I used the knowledge gained to weed out prospective financial advisors during interviews. You'd be surprised how many of them don't understand tax law when it comes to employee stock options.

5 out of 5 stars Abundance of useful information, Very easy to read.......2000-10-11

This book is the most efficient piece of writing on the taxation of stock options that I have read. I can extract more useful information with less effort than from any other source. The book explains the taxation of stock options in plain English. Anyone who has been granted stock options or who is an advisor to people with stock options should consider adding this book to his or her library.

          5 out of 5 stars A Must Read.......2000-04-06

I have a friend of mine, who was granted some stock options from his company. He was totally lost as to the consequences of the granting of the options. I did some research on the subject and my research pointed me into the direction of this book.

Both my friend and myself, were very impressed with the illustrations and ease of reading. Mr. Pastore gave several highly informative illustrations that were well thought out and easily explained.

I would recommend this book without reservation.

I highly recommend this book because nonprofit board work is not easy, and the author did not try to make it easy simply by giving me a model or formula to follow. In fact, his model, called the engagement model, invites me to accept the challenge to color outside the lines when it comes to traditional board roles, to harmonize all our decisions with our mission and vision, and to take on a mantle of professionalism that allowed me to see immediately what was missing in my work as a board member.

                  Book Description

Many have observed that the World Wide Web is tailor-made for the real estate industry, both as a marketplace and -- very soon -- as a vehicle to bring together all the players and services (real estate salespeople, lenders, appraisers, title companies, insurers, etc.) involved in the completion of a real estate transaction. Most real estate agents have yet to harness the communications and marketing tools of the Internet to enhance their careers. This book offers to fill that void.

Computers and electronic communication have become essential tools for success in the real estate profession. During the past year, the World Wide Web has exploded as a real estate venue. Most agents now realize that, instead of digging in their heels to resist traveling the information superhighway, they need to learn how to make the Internet work for them.

This book is designed to do five things for real estate agents: 1) ease them quickly into using communications tools related to the Internet; 2) show them how successful agents use the Net and the World Wide Web to build business; 3) show how to harness the Net to give agents greater control over their own careers; 4) give them a quick opportunity to immerse themselves in the Internet world many of their customers and competitors already know well; and 5) help them create the kind of effective Web presence that can bring them business.

The book begins by showing readers the value of email for their business and getting them comfortable with being connected and using online tools. Throughout the book, we explore the wealth of real estate resources and useful information available on the World Wide Web, including tips by two of the most respected commentators in the country. The book describes some successful real estate Web sites and shows what makes them work. It also presents the pros and cons for building the Web site yourself and whether you should take advantage of the multiplicity of service providers ready to help.

Planning for a Web site forces real estate agents to take a look at their business plans and how the Web fits into them. Besides giving them some guidelines on creating a Web site business plan, the book explores how agents can establish a Web presence that will stand them in good stead in the uncertain world of technology.

While most of the book focuses on the home buyers market, it also addresses how the Web is affecting commercial real estate, REITs, exchangers, and lenders. Seeing the way they use the Web offers real estate agents valuable perspectives and options.

NetSuccess demonstrates how being connected to the Internet can liberate real estate agents from the limitations of time and place and help them bring in more commissions. Through working agents' stories and "A day in the life" scenarios, readers follow some telecommuting agents to show what changes and what stays the same when you make technology a full partner in your working life. Includes CD-ROM with Internet software.

Net Success: How Real Estate Agents Use The Internet

                  ISBN 1-56592-213-1

Author, Scott Kersnar quickly makes his point that he is no stranger to real estate, the internet and how both are used successfully by today's real estate professionals. The author eloquently puts the words in simple day to day language. After reading the book I am not even sure if Scott Kersnar is capable of all that computer jargon many of us frequently associate anything with a computer today. Scott's book should prove useful to both the novice and advanced real estate professional as many of us still pioneer this newly found frontier called the internet.

The book takes the reader from the basics of getting connected and using email, to using and promoting both their offices and themselves on the internet. Moreover the book is full of useful real estate internet resources and how to create a successful real estate web site.In addition to being a "how to" book the author provides numerous accounts of actual real estate professional's success on the internet and takes special care so as not to cause computer or internet phobia from any reader.

I plan to keep this book within reach at all times as both a ready reference and for every novice real estate agent who is seeking answers on conducting thier own real estate business on the internet. I expect this book to be a real estate classic 50 years from now!

There are endless debates among fans of Bob Dylan, but one thing many seem to agree upon is that no one writes about Dylan's performances better than Paul Williams. His style is analytical and wildly enthusiastic, and admittedly not for everyone. But those who delve into Dylan's work, especially the fanatics who are always seeking out live-concert tapes, will find his exuberant analysis of Dylan's onstage career riveting. This first book in the Bob Dylan Performing Artist series (a second volume, Bob Dylan Performing Artist 1974-1986: The Middle Years is also recommended) concentrates on Dylan's formative years, and of particular interest (especially now that Dylan's legendary 1966 Manchester, England, show has been officially released) is the critical analysis Williams gives to Dylan's mercurial and confrontational mid-'60s shows. Williams's infectious verve makes reading his Dylan books similar to watching baseball with a friend who really knows the game: your eyes are opened and you find yourself appreciating some brilliant nuances you hadn't been noticing before. --Robert McNamara

5 out of 5 stars The Best Bob Dylan Book.......2006-02-20

This is by far the best book / series of books I have ever read on Dylan. The main thesis of the book is that Dylan is more than anything else a performing artist. That is to say that his primary artistic contribution is in creating spontaneous art in the moment whether that is in a studio or on stage in front of a live audience. Within this framework, anyone coming to interpret and enjoy Dylan's work can build their understanding that the work should be judged not so much as great songs, but great performances of songs. Admittedly Dylan (particularly in recent years) is an aquired taste, but once you have that taste his work is infectious and you can't get enough of it. Thus you can appreciate each permutation of a song as a fresh expression of emotions, ideas, and being in the moment. Great stuff!

5 out of 5 stars What makes Bob Bob?.......1998-03-03

I read this book a few years ago, when I was starting to get really into Dylan's music, and by the time I finished the book, I had an even deeper appreciation for his music. Williams is better than anyone at describing and conveying Dylan's genius. Almost overflowing with enthusiasm, Williams reviews Dylan's earliest, most celebrated albums and concerts with an emphasis on Dylan's unique delivery of the material, rather than foculsing on his simply his words or politics, as many less perceptive writers tend to do. Reading the book makes you see Dylan not as the "voice of a generation" but more simply and accurately as the generation's most visionary artist and performer.

                      Book Description

"Anything Bob Dylan sings--and any way he chooses to sing it--is worth hearing. Anything Paul Williams writes about Bob Dylan--and always in his wonderfully unpretentious, conversational and heartfelt manner--is worth reading. "Performing Artist" immediately enters the canon as one of the few necessary books on Bob Dylan".--Jonathan Cott, contributing editor, "Rolling Stone".
