I have read this book cover to cover. I have also read 2.5 other starter books. This is by far the best one. You will not be ready to make millions after this read, but you wouldnt be after only one book anyways. Some other books I have read are Bill o'reillys how to make mony in stocks. This book is much better for a non biased oppinion, O'riellys book seems more concerned with trying to sell you his strategy and in turn investors businness daily. My only criticm is that it doesnt go to in depth about any one strategy, it is more of in intro to all of them. This is exactly what is needed for a first book however and thats why it gets five stars. Be prepared to buy another book after this one sparks your interests. Be cautious about other books that try to get you all hyped up and ready to lose alot of money proclaiming themselves as the holy grail.

An Easy-to-Understand Guide to Investing Strategies.......2002-10-13
This dual authored 249-page book McGraw-Hill paperback covers different investment styles. It is divided into 10 chapters and includes a 15-page appendix of on-line investing resources, and 100 useful Websites, as well as a 9-page glossary. One unique feature is the inclusion of Psychological Quotient (PQ) Charts that can help readers ascertain their investment style and, thereby increase their odds on selecting the most appropriate investments.
The authors put forth the theory that if an investing strategy does not fit a person's personality that he/she will not stick with it for very long. Therefore, they provide a selection of currently used investing strategies together with the personality traits needed to execute the strategy successfully.
According to the authors, the investing process encompasses stock selection, timing of entry and exit points and portfolio management (asset allocation, number of holdings). However, they point out that the strategies for picking investment vehicles depends upon the investor's style of investing.
The authors point out that if an investor can use a systematic investing approach while maintaining discipline that he can more than double the annual return compared to random investing.
The authors created PQ charts. They rate each investment style on a scale of 1 to 10 for each of ten personality traits. These traits are: discipline; patience; risk tolerance; reward expectation; volatility tolerance; time horizon; time commitment; quantitative skill; charting skill; and investing confidence.
Nine specific investment styles are reviewed. The four major styles are growth (high risk/high reward); value (hunting for bargains); momentum (where the action is); and technical investing (using charts). There is one chapter on each style and together they cover 100 pages and are the heart of the book.
Each chapter follows the same format by providing the PQ chart personality rankings, anatomy of the types of stocks that fit that category, chart patterns of these stocks, how to screen for stocks, checklist of questions on evaluating stocks, exit and entry strategies, portfolio strategy, a case study, stock chart evaluation checklist, on-line resources, and helpful hints.
Five minor investing styles are portrayed in a separate chapter. They include: fundamental investing (balance sheet review), income investing (dividend payers), hybrid investing (combining styles), active trading (day traders, swing traders, position traders), and style surfing (style now in vogue).
Also provided are market capitalization strategies. Those covered include: large-, mid-, small-, and micro-cap strategies. A few advanced strategies are briefly discussed. They include short-selling, market-neutral investing, index trading, option hedging, and global investing.
Each style is explained and a PQ chart is included. A table showing the names of specific index funds and ETFs is also included for each investing style or market cap. This table provides readers with the specific funds to consider based upon their investment profile.
Overall, this book provides readers with a crisply written introduction to understanding the different investing styles, determining their style, help in locating funds that track these styles. This book contains sufficient resources to help investors strengthen their knowledge about investing and the markets. I highly recommend this book to new investors, as well as those who don't have a clue as to what they should be focusing on.

Unbelievable!.......2007-06-18
While I agree the organaztion of the book is a little odd, I find it very amusing that when a brilliant trader reveals one version of the "holy grail" to the public they scoff and complain. That's why so few of them make money. Stop reading books, you're wasting your life away. Get another hobby.
Should have been entitled, "All Around Technical Analysis".......2007-02-04
...because Ms. Brown never gets to the point. She talks around the subject for 300 pages, but never gives the reader the how, what or why of TA. This excruciatingly frustrating book ends up with a discussion on pyramids and harmonic series - intriguing, but, since Ms. Brown never offers a thorough explanation of how to use these techniques, the discussion is completely useless.
This book provides nothing more than survey material to the subject. It would be a nice introduction for someone who wants to know something about TA, but is unhelpful to the serious investor seeking to learn how to apply TA methods to one's portofolio.
Out of Context Aimless meandering.......2006-11-08
The author has her heart in the right place. She even starts out trying to go step-by-step, but it does not last. Somewhere into the 3rd or 4th page she starts utilizing advanced jargon to explain her elementary concepts. She never makes any reference to the 'advanced jargon' before this. That means that she does not build brick-by-brick.
Also, her references to various charts is confusing and mixed up. In one chapter where she introduces charting a stock on the monthly, weekly and quarterly charts, she makes conflicting points and ...well...let me not waste more time. Her language use is not good, therefore, her communication methods leave a person hanging.
Just DO NOT buy this book. There are other better books out there. Such as Toni Turner's books.
However, let me just say that she does explain some other overlying economic concepts and global mechanics of wealth building warriors, sitting around the world, very well.
An Aimless Book.......2006-03-18
In each chapter and throughout this book, the author writes whatever comes to her mind and therefore, it is hard to understand where she heads and concludes what. I don't know in which category this book fits but definitely not in technical anaysis.
A little bit too much opinion, a little bit too little hard advice.......2006-02-25
One previous reviewer complained that there were too many instances in this introduction to TA where the author introduces a topic cursorily and promises to come back to it in detail later -- and then never does. I'd be inclined to echo that complaint to some extent. The other thing I'd say against this text is that a lot of the advice is difficult to translate into something you've learned about the markets that you didn't know before -- in many cases a topic is introduced and I'm thinking "yes, OK, I understand, but... that means what?" The author is a professional trader of some standing but isn't a great teacher.
HOWEVER, the big plus for this book which makes it worth reading despite the above comments is that it provides a lot of anecdotal evidence of the psychology of the trading "industry" and introduces with stark clarity the divide between the retail and professional trading worlds. Combined with other texts on technical analysis this definitely has a place on the bookshelf (well-thumbed) of the aspiring TA trader.
One warning -- if, like me, your interest is primary Forex trading, there's very little in this book that's specific to forex -- that said, a great deal of what is discussed in a stock or futures context is applicable to forex.
In summary, I don't think Ms Brown quite succeeds in coming down the level of the "getting started" TA trader, but the book provides valuable insights and is worth reading nonetheless. You might not want to make it the very first book on TA you read, though.

I was assigned to read this book for social religion class. I did not find it very interesting to read. most of the stories are business stereotype. The book itself is very confusing. It seems that it keeps repeating itself- over and over.

This book is clear, concise, and draws from numerous well-regarded sources. The examples are enjoyable and the discussion questions are thought provoking.
Theologically ill-informed.......2001-09-23
I am a theologian-philosopher looking for a decent book on CHRISTIAN ethics in the marketplace, which this book claims to be. But I found the arguments and conclusions in this book to be based on some very shaky premises.
The author seems to be knowledgeable about the business world, and have read much from business texts and journals. However, since this is a CHRISTIAN ethic, proficiency with the Scripture is necessary. This I find lacking in the author. And so, many of his conclusions are in fact based on the "common sense" out there instead of the Scripture, although he tries to force his conclusions to say that they are in accordance with Christianity.
One who writes on Christian ethics should be proficient in both theology and philosophy, besides being informed about business situations as well. I lack the last of these three, and was hoping to remedy that partly with this book, but the author is so deficient on the first two that this book is not helpful at all.
I would instead recommend books by Gordon Clark and Vincent Cheung. Search the web for "trinity foundation" and "vincent cheung", and I think you will find them. Cheung's books are free for download.

Among development assistance agencies, the World Bank has led the way in policies to mitigate the impact of large-scale engineering projects on local populations, particularly in the building of dams. Since the 1980s the Bank has implemented guidelines for policies with respect to displacement, social infrastructure and services, environmental effects, resettlement, compensation, and the restoration of income for those affected. Having learned from the failures of past resettlement programs, the Bank has endeavored to function as a responsible and caring agency. This volume builds upon earlier studies and field work to offer a broad look at dam-building projects in six countries and to review the outcomes of Bank policy, learn from experience, and assess outside criticism.
The book covers representative dam projects in India, Thailand, Togo, China, Indonesia, and Brazil. Each project was undertaken after Bank resettlement guidelines had been implemented. The widely ranging results in each country are assessed. In the areas of compensation for acquired land, relocation, infrastructure and services, the contributors note satisfactory levels of improvement or positive trends. Governments are moving towards acceptance of the idea that displaced families should be paid the real value of their lost assets. Relocation processes are now keeping pace with water movement caused by dam building, and health, education, utilities, and roads are better than before the resettlement.
Other results have been less positive. The impact on incomes of those involuntarily resettled has been harsh in some locations. Resettler dissatisfaction has been intense, notably in those countries where the national economies are not experiencing strong growth. The Bank's performance itself has been uneven. There have been lapses in appraisal and monitoring during the projects and insufficient follow-through support for resettlement operations after the completion of loan and credit disbursements. In addition to its case by case analysis of countries and projects, the book includes detailed lessons and recommendations to strengthen resettlement policy and practice. Involuntary Resettlement will be of interest to economists, sociologists, and professionals working in regional development policy.

I purchased this book in amazon, and I enjoyed it; it's the king's story in images, from his early days in 50's and his last moments in 70's; this book had pictures of the most important moments in his life: his initial presentations, his first recording sessions, the days at the US army, some shots of many of his films, his later return to the stage and the final days. If you are a Elvis fan, you have to buy it!
Many errors in captions of photos and names with Elvis........1999-04-12
I wrote to the publisher after buying this book to make them aware of the many errors with regards to captions associated with photos, such as names of people with Elvis and movie titles. Before you do a book, you should research what you are putting in to make sure it is correct and therefore educating the reader with the "right" information. Nearly essential for Elvis fans.......2001-03-23
This book has several very interesting photos through the years...most, I've never even seen anywhere else; very, very little repetition to other books. Rare photos in the blue '70 jumpsuit with oriental trim, a rare photo in the white '69 karate gi, excellent photo in his '72 Conquistador suit, one of the best pics in the Burning Love red suit, Elvis in his funky western style mod cowboy garb (arriving in Houston for shows at the Dome in '70) etc. etc. Also has by far the best detailed photos I've ever seen of the orange target, bear claw, and aloha suits on display. Very neat room to room Gracelend pics. What a find. I absolutely love this book, among the best values around, too. Long live the King.
