Book Description
Although the investment landscape has been fairly bleak recently, there are ways to stay involved in the financial scene without losing your shirt. Don't Play in the Street describes one way-a stock selection system, WizeTRADE™, developed by financial wizard George Thompson. Thompson outlines the WizeTRADE™ method, along with his views on Wall Street, his stock selection strategy, and his tested trend analysis approach. Wary investors who feel clueless will soon learn how to understand stock positions, so they can make shrewd investment choices and prudently timed transactions.
Thousands of investors have attended WizeTRADE conferences to learn this winning method. Now, Thompson's WizeTRADE tips are as close as an investor's bookshelf. Don't Play in the Street covers:
•Wall Street scandals-same as they ever were.
•Investing scams and schemes.
•Knowledge as power.
•Taking stock of yourself.
•Picking a broker who won't make you the ""broker"".
•The genesis of WizeTRADE-new approaches in a new world of investing.
•Tips and pitfalls.
•Advanced strategy-short orders.
•Evaluating 35,000 stocks in seconds.
Also included are an indispensable appendix, ""How to Read Stock Tables,"" and a basic glossary of financial terms. Investors can take charge of their investments today with the proven and accessible methods outlined in this book.

More Fools Will Part With Their Money.......2006-12-05
Technical trading on its own is for suckers and is only mildly successful for a handful of the most sophisticated of traders, sometimes. Now Thompson has made it so easy for fools to part with their money with this book and his "software" that you are guaranteed to fail. WizeTRADE is a get rich quick fallacy. This system will prevent you from building true wealth. Fundamentals are still the only thing that matters people. You are only looking at this book or the software because you are desperate. Don't do it. You will be worse off. Successful trading --especially on technical "signals," is virtually impossible for any long term positive results. Am I wrong? Then email me the name of one, yes only ONE, successful technical trader on the level of fundamental investors like Warren Buffett or Bill Gates. I'll save you some time, there are none. Save your money and invest it based on fundamentals instead. Pick up a nice book on DRIPs or index investing and start immediately. You will be far better off.
Horrible, waste of time!.......2006-08-15
The only thing this book tells you is how to use the authors software, which by the way is garbage. Yes I was foolish enough to buy into the whole red light green light bs. There really isnt any info about the stock market or how to trade it...unless you own the software. If you are looking for trend recognition software check out premiretrade, much better choice.
This Book is the Best, the Tools are even better!.......2006-01-24
First of all, the Wizetrade Method works and works well. It is well worth the price one pays for the tool and believe me, it has paid for itself five times over.
Most folks who don't like the GlobalTech Solution Tool suite have not used them and are at best guessing on how they really work. Forget about the Infomercials, this stuff works and George does a great job laying this out in his book; a systematic way of trading and that is the key to unemotional and disciplined trading.
The biggest problem that Technical Traders deal with is knowing when to get in and out of a trade. This method takes the guesswork out of effective trading, this book describes that very well. Its more then Red and Green lights, it's a systematic approach to trading. BTW, the green and red lines displayed on the charts have nothing to do with averaging, they track Buying and Selling pressure, supply and demand, no price or candle sticks charts here. Plus, all the tools provide volume, as volume describes the strength of the trend.
Get this book, its well-written and fun to read and yes, it is based on the WizeTrade suite of tools, which are Awesome to say the least.
Ok reading, but not what it was purporting to be........2004-03-17
This book contains some reasonable and entertaining info for experienced traders on some of the scams the author has come across in his time with the American SEC. However a significant component of the book plugged WiseTRADE which contrary to my expectation in the preamble on this site is not about a trading system per se, but a software program with some algorithm which is probably some sort of weighted price average. Nothing new, nothing sophisticated, and nothing likely to interest traders already familiar with other packages such as Metastock.
The green and red light system explained in the book is helpful to traders but all you really see are two lines and not the actual price /volume info although I'm sure it is there somewhere.
The inside covers don't give much of a clue as to how much of the book is dedicated to plugging WizeTRADE (even with the "DVD preview of the WizeTrade software included" posted across the top of the cover).
Had I known that so much of the book was a user manual for a software program, I would not have bought it. However if you are looking for some eyeopening stuff on investment cons, and want to start trading with an easy to use trading system, then perhaps the book is worth buying. The book is an easy read.
It is well written and my own experience suggests what Thompson says about media etc is quite true.

Book Description
The only book in this area that takes a holistic view, Elite Deviance traces the causes of elite deviance to the structure of power and wealth in the United States. This book includes both criminal and non-criminal elite acts that cause great harm. Unique in its scope, Elite Deviance covers not only corporate crime and political corruption in historical and contemporary context, but also the relationship between the two. Readers will enjoy the many interesting and current examples and case studies that reinforce all major theoretical points in the book. For people interested in criminal justice, social problems, and business ethics.
Customer Reviews:
The Perfect Launching Pad for a Theory of Political Deviance in the American Political System.......2007-10-11
Other reviewers have complained that the book lacks theoretical coherence and substance, and while I cannot disagree with this criticism altogether, it is important to point out that the book is first and foremost, a college level textbook. Thus, although it is not theoretically tidy, I am inclined to give the author the benefit of the doubt. In my view, it must be seen as much a didactic tool as an independent attempt to advance a fresh theory of Elite Deviance.
Even without positing a fully formed theory, this book is undoubtedly filling a gap that sorely needs filling. The only other books that come close to doing so is Peter Dale Scott's "Deep Politics and the JFK assassination," and much of the writings linking the drug trade to the CIA, and through the CIA to high level U.S. politicians. And here I have in mind such works as Gary Webb's "Dark Alliance;" Terry Reed's "Compromise," and Alfred McCoy's, "The Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia," among many others.
The next conceptual level up from this genre and Simon's book is quite a large leap. Arguably one would have to ascend to something on the order of Jürgen Habermas' et. al., theories of corruption based on a framework of communicative action. In addition to being quite a leap from undergraduate political science and sociology, it would also require a change in focus to criminal intent and the sociology and psychology of crime - not exactly the center of gravity of elite deviance.
The beauty of the present volume is that it does catalogue rather carefully the many instances of elite corruption that remain just below the waterline of American society. This collation is turned into a taxonomy of patterns and robust chunks that hint strongly towards a complete theory of elite deviance. For me that is enough.
In the same vein as Scott's Deep Politics, Simon's treatment here gravitated towards an all but pregnant "pre-theory" of elite deviance based on the overwhelming coherence of the various strains of empirical evidence that this book so carefully collates into meaningful patterns. Constructing a suitable theory from the welter of data pointing to elite deviance and corruption is an exercise that any good college professor would leave as an exercise for his industrious students.
I believe Professor Simon has done just that: He has left this book as a launching pad for industrious students to peek over the horizon to see all the many theoretical possibilities. It is a work in progress and one of the finest of this genre. A final theory of elite deviance in the American political system would make a fine dissertation topic for one of Simon's students.
Five Stars
no good.......2005-05-10
I am teaching a Criminal Justice course using this book. Although I have the latest, 7th edition, most examples are from the 1970s and 80s, and no real update has been provided.
The kind of analysis offered by the author does not stand in any recognizable academic tradition. Instead, Simon mixes up all kinds of arguments, but does not explain where they come from. As such, this book is not useful as an introduction into criminal justice, political economy, or political science. The author prefers to operate on the level of political pamphletism, which invalidates the whole approach and sheds a negative light on the more serious criticisms of contemporary capitalism available. Simon's methodology is either nonexistent or unexplained, but it is unsound at any rate. No mention is made of such crucial concepts as market failure, negative externalities, free riding, embeddedness, or heterodox theorizing. Neo-Marxist state criticism is not introduced, although the author borrows much from it. The book is outlandish and even though it preaches socialism, it is extremely expensive.

Book Description
In June 1996 the National White Collar Crime Center sponsored an academic workshop of white collar crime scholars. Here, a group of participants attempted to agree on a definition of white collar crime. Stemming from this, for the first time, an branch of the federal government has endorsed a definition of white-collar crime based on something other than violations of law. This book is an effort to explore some of the new definition's implications. White Collar Deviance brings together two respected authors in the field, David Simon and Frank Hagan, to present a new conceptualization of currently competing terms: elite deviance, white collar crime, and economic crime. This book includes the many varieties of both criminal and noncriminal deviance by both individuals and organizations, and includes the behavior of both the elites and nonelites. A survey of all types of white collar deviance, both elite and nonelite, this book also contains discussion of numerous acts of elite deviance (e.g., Clinton sex scandal). Sociologists, crime and law enforcement professionals.

This book lays the framework for organizations that wish to form comprehensive disaster recovery plans. The book also examines current trends identified through a recent nonprofit study.
Customer Reviews:
Great guide for nonprofits.......2004-01-20
I work with nonprofits, and found this book to be best one out there on the subject of disaster recovery. It covers a number of possible scenarios, and gives specific steps on what your org can do to prepare for the disaster we hope will never strike. The plans don't have to be high tech or expensive; some of the solutions are surprisingly simple, yet effective. If you have a business (even a for-profit) and want to make sure it lasts, read this book!

Book Description
In order to provide water security in the 21st century there is universal agreement that a continuation of current policies and extrapolation of trends is not an option. Also clear is that from both water supply and development perspectives, the world's arid and semi-arid regions are those currently and potentially experiencing the highest water stresses. One third of the world's land surface is classified as arid or semi-arid and about half the countries are directly affected in some way by problems of aridity. The hydrology of arid and semi-arid areas is also known to be substantially different from that in more humid regions. It is therefore essential that investigation methods appropriate to the former are developed and applied; i.e. strategies for arid and semi-arid region water resources development must recognize the principal characteristics in 'in situ' hydrological processes.

Book Description
Despite impressive innovations by some states, western water laws and institutions now in place were designed chiefly for an earlier era and have not adapted to the new demands and stresses on water resources. In Water and the Arid Lands of the Western United States the authors explore the nature of water demands in the agricultural and municipal sectors and set forth prescriptions for the west to move away from its historical reliance on expensive supply-side projects and toward better management of existing supplies. Six cases studies by experts in the field illustrate specific examples of water management issues. Taking as foci the Central Valley of California, the High Plains of Texas, and the Upper Basin of the Colorado River, three of the case studies examine problems faced by the large urban areas of southern California; Tucson, Arizona; and Denver, Colorado. A concluding chapter suggests practical policy options and politically feasible institutional changes for maximizing the efficiency of water use and minimizing the conflict associated with the reallocation of limited water supplies.
