A small book that is easy to read and is an okay starting place for beginners despite the fact that Bernstein conveniently makes a lot of recommendations for his own books. There's a little of everything, money management, what you should expect to make during your first years as an investor, a little technical analysis, some nice rules of thumb, etc. But this is also the book's weakness--it spreads itself thin covering a lot of topics in this short introductory book. For example, only elementary momentum analysis is explained and a beginning investor should have more information than that to start investing. There are better "starter" books and readers of No Bull Investing should be aware that they can pick up a lot of simple tips and rules from Bernstein, but should continue their education before diving into investing.

Yet again, Jake Bernstein has given us laymen a book we can understand. In these uncertain times, it is hard to know when to invest and who to trust. In my opinion, and indeed my experience, Bernstein has made the world of investing accessible and profitable time and time again. This book is an investment you will not regret!

Great book, almost the same as last edition. .......2007-06-22

I HATE that textbook publishers print out a new edition, with basicaly the same problems as the last edition (only the numbers change). However, to be fair, this is a very clear book, has good examples that follow the exercies in the book. Probably one of the better accounting books I have seen. Also has some chapters of introduction to finance. Overall would recommend.

Ok - not great.......2007-01-04

This book is what I would call an o.k. textbook. It's not horribly hard to sit down & read or understand. On the other hand it's not light reading. There are some areas in later chapters that are not covered as well as I has hoped.

Althought the book recieved was in new condition(as advertised), It was linked to it's purchase through the 13th edition textbook which I also purchased(via another seller). The Working Papers recieved were for the 12th edition, I needed the 13th. In the future I will make it a point to ask any seller the book edition if they fail to mention it in the adversement.

Great for Non-Accountants.......2006-10-19

I found the book to be attractively put together and full of examples. They address both manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments - including service industries. Managerial Accounting is a vital tool for businesses as it provides techniques for making better business decisions based on data instead of "hunches". Nonetheless, the material can be difficult to get through. The authors understand this and use real-life examples to help give insight as to the way businesses use these analysis techniques. Because the material can be challenging, I can understand some people finding the material boring. However, given the type of material, I feel the authors have done a commendable job in communicating the material in an appealing way.

Reading through this book is a BORE! :( Examples are almost non-existant, there's like nothing (like definitions) on the sides of the pages, and no glossary. How poorly written! Please find an alternative to learn this rather interesting subject. Thank you!

Disappointing.......2001-05-01

Having previously read "Fundamental Financial Accounting Concepts" by the same people, this book was a disappointment. It came off as incredibly dry, and was not all that clear in its presentation of the concepts. The "Fundamental Financial Accounting" volume is great, but I'd recommend another author for the managerial book.

Tensions in parts of the Danube River Basin, the former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and elsewhere demonstrate the need for international agreements which will help stabilize and improve economies, governments, and environmental management within the countries in transition and across national borders. An instrument of peace, a Convention which establishes a Commission to oversee natural resource protection among all basin countries, is about to be adopted and implemented. This book covers in detail the readiness of the countries to participate and the programs funded by international agencies, and suggests ways to stimulate the slow and uneven government and investor response to conflicts. It reviews the approach and successes and failures of current programs funded by the European Commission, the Global Environment Facility, and US AID, and suggests ways to improve such assistance for maximum effect within the countries themselves.
The book has equal value to two sets of audiences:

specialists in many disciplines, scientists and technicians, and their colleagues in public and private sector policy-making who deal full-time with transboundary natural resource problems at a practical level in the Danube region or in regions elsewhere;
those concerned about the future economic and political stability of the east European and CIS countries and their ability to meet EU environmental and other criteria, including investors in public and private projects.

This is the first book on the French composer Jean Langlais to be published in English and also the first to provide complete information on all of his published works plus 86 unplubished compositions, and eleven orchestral works. This book traces Langlais' development from his early years of study at the National Institute for the Young Blind, through his long and active career as composer, church musician, and concert organist, and explores the impact that Langlais' hard work, determination, and talent have had on the musical world. It is divided into five major sections, including a biography, interviews, works and performances, a discography, and a bibliography. Listing 240 compositions written between 1927 and 1987, and containing a complete discography of both commercially produced and privately released recordings, the major portion of this volume is an annotated bibliography of writings by and about Langlais, with 536 entries, covering the years from 1926 to 1987, when he celebrated his eightieth birthday. Categories include general references, individual compositions, improvisations, reviews of recordings, nonprint sources, and archive information. There is valuable information on premieres, reactions to Langlais' works and performances, recital programs, and correspondence. The opus numbers, recently completed by Marie-Louise Jaquet-Langlais, the composer's wife, are published here for the first time in a chronological list of compositions, and the index section covers works, authors and translators, and general information.

Scholarly work beginning to show its age.......1998-10-29

Jean Langlais was an organist and composer of immense talent and variety. Kathleen Thomerson does a credible job of indexing his numerous compositions, and of placing them in their proper historical context. Unfortunately for this book, the widow of Jean Langlais is in the process of renumbering his works chronology; the new catalog numbering is not yet reflected here.

Yet as a former student of Langlais, Thomerson writes with authority and sensitivity on this great master. As a former student of Thomerson at SIUE, I treasure the copy presented to me at my degree recital, and recommend it and her to every serious student and researcher.
