Powerful steps to change your life.......2003-08-24
What a great book! James Wise has a great handle on the financial problems most of us are facing and practical examples of how to improve our lives financially. My wife and I read the book and immediately started implementing some of the ideas with positive results. The practical examples and case studies are great and make you feel like you are not just reading another "health and wealth" book by some financial guru. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to change their quality of life and improve their financial future.

¿Tus antepasados eran nobles? ¡Me estás tomando el pelo! (trans.): Your ancestors were royalty? You're pulling my leg! (lit.): Your ancestors are royalty? You're taking my hair! ¡La comida en este restauraniete está para chuparse los dedos! (trans.): The fod in this restaurant id delicious! (lit.): The food in this restaurant is to suck one's fingers! While asking for directions, if a native speaker of Spanish were to tell you not to "eat your coconut" (comerse el coco) just because some "large onion" (cebollón) told you that your destination was "in the fifth pine tree" (en el quinto pino), you may not know whether to continue on your way or just give up and turn back that is, unless you've read David Burke's latest book in his Street Spanish series. The Street Spanish Slang Dictionary & Thesaurus offers English equivalents and usage tips for over one thousand Spanish terms, including slang words, idioms proverbs, colloquialisms, and vulgarities. It also offers an extensive thesaurus of naughty Spanish slang synonyms for common English words and phrases all destined to make you feel like an insider in no time.

Do You Want to know How to Say More than "Que Pasa Amigo?".......2006-07-01
As the owner of Toni Roman's LearningSpanishVideoReviews web site, I am more than happy to have this opportunity to post my review of this wonderful resource for learning to speak and understand everyday Spanish.
If the closest thing to Spanish slang that you know how to say is "Que Pasa Amigo?," you should seriously consider investing
in this book. It has over one thousand alphabetically arranged Spanish slang terms, ranging from actual slang words, to
idioms, to proverbs, colloquialisms and obscenities. Street Spanish Slang Dictionary & Thesaurus also has plenty of regional usage tips. The only thing that I did not like about this book is that it only has a Spanish alphabetical listing so you'd have to know the word already in Spanish in order to look it up in this book. And if I already knew the word in Spanish there would be no need for me to have to look it up.
If you find that this book is of interest to you, Streetwise Spanish is another book that you may like.
An introduction to the world of slang etc........2004-01-23
If you are hoping to get clarification of the meaning of slang, vulgar and obscene terms in Spanish this dictionary & thesaurus is a great intro to this vocabulary in Spanish. As in any language this is usually hard to learn and understand without exposure and because Spanish is so broad whether you are a native speaker or not it is sometimes necessary to consult a reference to clarify the meaning of a word or expression. An everyday word in one country can be considered vulgar and totally unacceptable in another.
This book contains data from Street Spanish 1,2,3 and a thesaurus of terms thematically categorized. If you wish to understand these terms as they are used and terms more specific to a particular Latin country or region, this thesaurus will prove beneficial. I also recommend the Mcgraw-Hill Diccionario del Argot: El Sohez. It is very advanced but is thorough and helpful if you wish to explore the world of idioms and slang in Spanish.
Ay, que padre!.......2001-01-25
I think this dictionary/thesaurus is deifinitely worth purchasing for those who like to expand on their knowledge of Spanish. I like how David Burke gives explanations on how certain idioms and words came about. I also liked the fact that at the end of the book, he put in some of the "Naughty Spanish" from his other book, Street Spanish 3: The Best of Naughty Spanish. I musn't forget, either, about the illustrations because they are so hilarious. So anyway, you guys, compren el libro. Uds. pueden darme gracias mas tarde!!

Customer Reviews:
A very good read.......2005-12-03
This is a great book. Danielle Steel is not just some rich arthur in her mansion in San Francisco. She is a compasionate person who actually feels and gets involved with the less fortunate. I didn't feel that this book was slanted either way. I think it is a fair portrait of one's life. Definitely an intestersting read.
Will I ever get this book???.......2005-07-28
Sorry, but I can't rate this book fairly as I still don't have it. It's been almost 5 weeks since I ordered it, and I'm still waiting. Several complaints, and I got a 5 dollar discount on my next order. Why would I order anything else when I have to wait so long to get what I was promised in 2 weeks? Next time I will buy at the local book store. Yes, I will pay more but at least I will have the opportunity to read it before I die of old age.
Fans, please chill out!.......2004-01-24
I have to say it: I am not a Danielle Steel fan in the strict sense of the word. I find her prose repetitive, her dénouements fairly sugarcoated and her writing rather low-brow in general, especially for a writer who scoffs at the romance writer definition and would like to be compared with Judith Krantz or Sidney Sheldon. And yet, there is something about her books that keeps me coming back for more. I especially enjoy her period works, like "Vanished," "Zoya," or "Crossings" and I have to say she has a knack at making a good portrayal of the times in which her books are set. The plots are intricate enough and one can almost invariably bond and relate to her characters without difficulty. As to this unauthorized biography, "The Lives of Danielle Steel," it has helped me understand more about the persona who is behind the fiction. The research on the author's life is very thorough and it also makes some good points about her fiction. This book doesn't intend to tarnish Danielle Steel's image, all the opposite: it helps her fans discover her as a human being. It's true that it gouges up a lot of rubbish about her past but in the end it was she who took the decision to marry ex-cons and drug-addicts. We all make mistakes and have to live them down as best we can. I found the book as entertaining as any of Steel's books and, as I have already said, it helped me relate better to Danielle Steel now that I know that she's human.
Others Missing the Point.......2001-12-11
All of these negative reviewers are missing the point. This book was written to show the interesting parallels between Danielle Steels life and the characters in her book. The book doesn't go out of its way to say that Danielle is a bad person - it's just saying, "look, her books are a lot like her life." You people should just relax and enjoy the parallels between life and fiction. This is a great book, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I'm also a Danielle Steel fan - I've read all of her books - and I now look back at them with a different eye, which is fun!
Complete Junk!!!.......2001-05-25
I have been reading Danielle Steel novels for several years, including the book she wrote about her son's life, and this overdrawn gossip column, The Lives of Danielle Steel, is complete junk. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the authors of this book never even read a Danielle Steel novel, which I consider "real" fiction. If you are a true fan of Danielle Steel don't even bother to read this book because it tells nothing about the author's real life.

Louis Rose.......2005-05-29
Rose review
Norman Manson
LOUIS ROSE: SAN DIEGO'S FIRST JEWISH SETTLER AND
ENTREPRENEUR by Donald H. Harrison; Sunbelt Publications; 286 pages; $19.95.
The title of this book indicates that it is a biography of a Jewish-American pioneer, but really it is much more than that. For it paints a graphic picture of San Diego's rip-roaring early
days as an American - rather than a Mexican - outpost.
San Diego in the 1850s and 60s was a rather chaotic, undisciplined place, typical of most frontier towns in that era. And Donald Harrison imparts its flavor in a very well-written, meticulously researched study. While focused on Louis Rose and his few fellow-Jews who had settled in this faraway place, it is in many ways an accurate general history of a town (much of the time it wasn't even officially a city) suffering all manner of growing pains.
The life of Louis Rose in itself makes an intriguing, captivating story. Starting at his birthplace in Germany, he went to New Orleans, across Texas and he finally reached the dusty village of San Diego, where he was to be an influential figure for the last 38 years of his life. His is a story of success and failure, of triumph and tragedy - but above all of a can-do spirit which kept him going even in the face of adversity.
Harrison has skillfully put the pieces of San Diego history together, no mean feat considering the sketchy nature of much of the written record. The result is a fact-filled, readable addition to the history of California's second largest city.

A great resource and tribute to San Diego history..........2005-01-28
I found this book to be extremely enjoyable and fascinating to read. As I love reading about history in general, I found this book particularly interesting living in San Diego. The combination of vivid details and factual research made me feel as though I had embarked on a journey through time in San Diego's early history. This book give you a real-life perspective on how we got to be where we are today.
A Rose by no name other than Louis, San Diego Early Pioneer.......2004-12-19
San Diego promoted, as America's "Finest City" is less well known as the site of Rose Canyon. Those few who are familiar with the geography might also know that this geographic locale is also a vulnerable earthquake fault. Still less are aware that this region is named after a Jewish pioneer who made significant contributions to the birth of the metropolis which we now know as San Diego.
Donald Harrison, former editor of the award winning "Heritage" in a commendable achievement of scholarship, historical research and some informed speculation offers the reader an extremely readable odyssey of Louis Rose. Rose migrated from Germany through Louisiana, Texas and eventually San Diego.
Harrison's maxim, "There is a Jewish story everywhere" is once again confirmed. Even in the very early formative years of what was once an inaccessible outpost of California, Rose was an influential relentless businessman and city planner. Although the narrative framework is the biography of Rose, it is significantly much more. Harrison's detailed correlation of the events of Rose's time makes possible a deep understanding of the personalities, situations and the environment which impacted the formation of San Diego.
Persons who were Hebrew or Jewish are not usually the image one considers when thinking of American pioneers. The author puts an end to this oversight. At the same time, biographer Harrison's detailed narrative brings to the reader political and social aspects of the mid 1800s (Louis Rose arrived in San Diego in 1851) which undoubtedly will provide interested historians links to even deeper understanding of early San Diego and the beginnings of a Jewish community there. "Mitzuyon" (Excellent: Hebrew).
