As a Christian woman, I was hoping this book would really help with my problem of overspending, but it didn't! I don't even plan to finish reading the last 60 pages of the book. I'm looking for a book that goes more into depth on how to solve the problem, and I personally don't believe 12 step programs are the key to solving shopping addictions. Had I known this book so heavily relied on testimonies, I would not have purchased it.

About the time I was maxing out my credit card in too many digits to mention, I found Karen O'Connor's book. Through it I realized that my lack of financial discipline was not only hurting my family but also keeping me from helping others as I'd like. While reading her book, I had to face up to some negative behaviors but now am on the right track to freedom from financial bondage. I highly recommend this book!

I didn't realize how much I fell into this category until I read this book. I was a little surprised that there were quite a few references to religion in this book, but it by no means was offensive or trying to convert anyone. I am reading it in conjunction with Overcoming Overspending, A Winning Plan For Spenders And Their Partners, and for the first time in years, my bank account is not in the red. Motivating, inspiring. A real wake up call for women who have been raised to be shoppers.

Lee's Canterkerous General and father of the Lost Cause.......2000-12-31

For those well familiar with the Civil war, this is a great biography of Early in that it concentrates on Early the person and the General while assuming that you have the basic facts down on the Civil War. The author does not spend too much time on minute detail on troop movements that has been covered many times before but provides in-depth insight to "Old Jube" and his actions. A tough and controversial fighter, until reading this book I didn't know that the former Commonwealth Attorney and life long bachelor from Franklin County sired four children refusing to marry his companion because she was beneath his station. Great historical highlights such as Early's controversial role on Lee's left at Gettysburg, his great assignment defending Fredericksburg against great odds while Lee takes the rest of the army to Chancellorsville, his zealous and dictatorial grip on the Lost cause syndrome, and his public branding of the ill equipped Longstreet (not a lawyer and politically naive) as the cause of Lee's defeat at Gettysburg. Wonderful that it highlights the second battle of Fredericksburg and how the Federals found out the heights were lightly defended. In addition, the author makes an excellent case that when defending the valley after Jackson, Ewell did as well as Jackson until Grant sent Sheridan and a 40,000 man army to defeat him. The author notes that aside from poor use of his calvary and his negative tongue-lashing, Lee's "bad, old man" was a tough fighter and a major player in the Army of Northern Virginia.

This book doesn't really seem to deal with Early the general as much as it does Early the leader of the Lee cult after the war. Skip ahead to the last few chapters.

I found this book to be far too shallow to be of any great use. While it does gives an overall picture of the situation, much of the contents lack depth that neither practitioner nor student would find it to be of much help when dealing with real life problems. Not recommended.

Grangaard proposes an alternative to 'systematic withdrawl' or retirement funds and compelling reasons to consider his theory. He convinced me! The book contains several detailed technical analyses that the reader MUST spend time studying. Most explainations are well done. Unfortunately this is the only book of it's kind so it's not possible to compare it to other presentations.

Honest and unassuming. A delightful read........1999-05-22

"EVERY WOMAN HAS A STORY" is a delightful read. I was impressed with the clever and yet simple idea of compiling a collection of personal stories, crossing socio-economic, ethnic, levels of education and age bounderies. The stories are as different as the women who wrote them, and yet the common thread is that of poignancy, honesty, a struggle to survive and grow, and a touch of humor thrown in for good measure. Some of the stories are simple, others more complex. I found them all to be human, tender and touching. I was particularly moved by Paula Silverberg's "LEAP AND THE NET WILL APPEAR". The charming tale of a young woman whose courage and determination in addressing a childhood disappointment, prompted her to face the "failure", muster the challenge, and, as an adult, emerge triumphant. A lesson for us all - "Feel the fear, but do it any way". As an added bonus I found the size and shape of the book to be reminiscent of a personal journal, and reading its content made it so much more endearing. Bravo to the ladies as well as the compiler! May we expect another collection soon?

The concepts work.......1999-08-08

I found Lease Purchase America very helpful and informative, and the concepts worked for me. I bought a real estate investment course which talked about the concepts of a lease with option to purchase, but there were still many gray areas left untouched. After reading Lease Purchase America, I was able to work out a deal on a four- family and get it with "no money down" (well, there was some money exchanged, but it came from my credit card in the form of the option payment, which the bank never knew about because I took out the mortgage loan a year later). I had the seller raise the price a little, and got a 50 percent rent credit. (The seller had to pay a little more in capital gains, but he still got full asking price--and without any real estate commission.) Since then, using the techniques, I've lease optioned a couple investment properties to others, getting full asking price. Ross explains lease options in simple detail for those getting started, and has many good ideas contained within his book; it really covers the nuts and bolts of buying and selling small properties with lease options. The only major problem with the book is that if you lend it to an investor friend, you might not see it again. (I'd give it 5 stars, but nothing is perfect.)

I have spent thousands of dollars on dozens of books and home study courses on how to get rich in real estate. I have found that the concepts and methods in Lease Purchase America are by for the simplest and easiest I have ever tried. I read the entire book in just a few hours and applied what I learned the next day on a property I had already made several offers on. I've made more money in three weeks than I had made in the previous year. Lease Purchase is now my full time business and I will never buy propeties any other way again. Everything I needed to know was in the book including a word for word presentation for buyers and sellers. The only way this does not work is if you don't do it. Thank you John Ross.

Good intentions, but missing real details........1998-12-19

I've personally been investing in real estate since December 1996 and have bought over a million dollars worth of houses and apartments with no money down techniques. For the past year or so I've been trying to piece together a lease-purchase concept to use to buy large properties, so I had hopes this book would bring everything together.(No one in my area knows how to do these things! Population 60,000!) Unfortunately, the book ended up being a nice story, kind of a pep-talk for the concept. Some surface details were given about how much to get up front, what kind of ad might lead to a good prospect, etc., but no real substance like sample contract agreements, legal or tax considerations, what happens if the lease- purchasers back out and decide to sue you to get their option money back,-- all the real world details that seriously matter when trying to put these deals together. I'm going to give Mr. Ross the benefit-of-the-doubt and assume he really meant well when writing this book, but thank goodness it only costs $7-8, because it seriously lacks the real substance and technical details you need to get started.

This book is a good read, but not for the intended purpose. The book gives a realistic setting, "How I went from nothing to something," and gives little useful advise. More sizzle than steak.

If you want to know or get a surface idea of Lease Purchase's this book will let you know if you want to waste your time digging further into the subject.

Wrong in constructions, use of the language, presentation of carachters, details such as the celebration of New Years Eves after Jan. 29 are part of this book that mix the rality of the puertorrican society of the first part of the 20 century with the absurds misconceptions of the writter. If someone wants to have superficial, cosmetics and simple ideas of the socio political situacion of Puerto Rico, this is the book to read.

Although I have lived in Phoenix and the White Mountains of Arizona all of my life and have known of the diverse Native American nations sharing our community, I had never heard the fascinating histories told with such depth and detail. I enjoyed the dual biography format of the book which allowed the reader to see General Crook and Geronimo side by side as men in opposing political environments.

The descriptive, creative language Aleshire uses makes the scenes come to life as if I were there. His story makes the history of the White Mountains, Chirichauas, San Carlos areas rich, deep and vivid with history.

What a sorry mess of a book. This a shallowly researched retelling of the lives of these fighters, based on outdated secondary sources. In fact, it reads like apologia for Crook. It is well known today that only 500-750 Lakota and Cheyenne warriors faced Crook (and his 1300 men) and beat him at the Rosebud, yet Aleshire tries to claim that the two sides were of equal strength. And later, the role of Crook in conspiring with Red Cloud to remove Crazy Horse as a potential rival to Red Cloud (who had no civil authority with the Oglala except that handed to him by Americans) is not even mentioned. Instead, Crook is portrayed as innocent of having anything to do with the death of Crazy Horse. I freely admit to knowing much more about the Lakota than about the Apaches. But if Aleshire can not get these details right, why should I trust anything he has to say about the Apache aspects? Again, this seems like a book designed to gloss over Crook's moral lapses, perhaps as a counter to recent books that expose these sad events.
