Bought this for myself and my father. Two old war horses looking for the real stories. Chadz's editor had a few troubles yet the truth is there, funny, insightful and a heck of a memory from this Marine... in this world of money making ex-marines, the ability that this Marine showed with a tad of self deprication was refreshing

Chadz is a fresh voice with an ear for dialogue and pacing. But even budding Salingers need editors and proof readers. Too many typos and miscues in this one to rate Five Stars. Blame it on the publisher.

Still, recommended reading for would-be, current and former Jarheads.

The author did a outstanding job timelining the days and duties of a Marine Grunt and Marine Security Force Sentry. The photos and attachments brought back a floodgate of memories and although this is not a book for my mother, it is one for Marines like myself, to rest, reflect and remember

I started to wonder if the world revolved around what publishers would allow or what phrases authors could use to score the biggest payday....then I read this book. Chadz did a marvelous job at showing the webs that are weaved by grunt Marines during their first 4 year tour. I can't say anything more except to applaud him for not throwing the CORPS under the bus like so many other Marine authors have done over the past year and that goes without saying what some of the "reporters" reported on. Good job...great read, helluva memory!

Great Book. Funny informative, face paced, ...a look iside the Corps from a grunts eyes that allows me to show a bunch of the stories to friends and prove that the world of the "grunt Marine" is ever changing, fast paced and always filled with adventure, learning and trials. One gets to cover basically a full tour with the author...great for Marines to remember and new Marines and Marine families to learn.

I borrowed this book recently from my local library. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was very readible and entertaining, and included many previously unreleased "tidbits." Pete Shotton, one of Lennon's closest friends, presents a credible account and reveals Lennon the person: fun loving, rebelious and a general comedian. While John certainly did have flaws (i.e. he was the world's worst dancer and was not loyal to his first wife Cynthia), inclusion of these bits of information make Shotton's book all the more credible. Thus unlike the malicious Goldman book and unlike other books which appear too fawning, this book is objective and written by someone who really knew John before the madness of Beatlemania set in.

Pete Shotton was John Lennon's best friend throughout his life, and this book gives a positive upbeat and revealing look at that friendship.

Starting from their rebellious childhood antics in Woolton and Quarrybank we are taken on a "Magical Mystery Tour" through the Quarrymen formation and onto Beatles superfame. Throughout it all Pete was the sane down-to-Earth component of John's life. Here's a glimpse of the Real John Lennon from getting every bird around (and the rest) to going off the deep end with Acid. It's sure to entertain you and keep you laughing with uncanny Lennon humor. The book is no whitewash, but neither is it the blackwash of Goldman's book. It's basically as close to the truth as a good friend can get. I also recommend The Man who Gave the Beatles Away and the new book, Lennon in America. I await the release of John's Diaries.

Hard To Beat.......2000-04-10

There are only three decent books on John Lennon: Albert Goldman's, Ray Connelly's and Pete Shotton's "In My LIfe". This book is almost completely free of the schmalz that ruins other biographies. It's truthful and frank and is quite fascinating. A good thing about the book, is that it focuses on the man rather than the music. From reading it, you do get an idea of what he was really like. Regrettably, I lent my copy to a friend who promptly left it on a table in a cafe or hostel in Paris (early '96). So if you found it - I want it back!

This book is a revealing look at John Lennon's personal life. It shows his fans that they don't know as much about the "real" Lennon as they think they do. It shows the man behind the legend. It seems as though the book contains many ideas that one might not want to accept as reality, so it is easy to dissmiss some of the book as false. All in all this is a terrific book about Lennon.

I did not do my due diligence on researching before purchasing this $16 book. A bit about the author: Mr. Hayashi claims to be a self-made millionaire at age 26, yet never discusses how he really made it or which business he actually was in, which is strange and unconvincing. I cannot find any infomation on his venture in Google either, so my best guess is that he work for multi-leveled marketing company, make his way up and later have some kind of business ??!! Maybe that's the reason why he had so much praise, and devoted too much pages, on multi-leveled marketing opportunies and imformercials. For the enterprenuers who do not want to work for these types of company, the best things you can get out of this book is
(1) Goal and focus: set your 1, 3, 5 year goals on paper. Put them somewhere you can see and stick to it
(2) Time management: use automatic payment, avoid high-tech that watse your time
(3) Deligence: divide the work out as much as possible
... and some other good advides (but VERY vague) like purchasing tape of mentors, balacing work and place, stick to your game plan, don't listen to negative people
AND THAT 'S ABOUT IT.
Mr. Hayashi is a sale man, as you can see so far. This's not to say that this book is a sale pitch. It does contain some good informations. Yet if you have some basic understanding of running a business OR you're over 25 years old OR you're consider running your own business instead of joining a multi-leveled or an informmercial, this is NOT a book for you.

"Millionaire By 26 : Secrets to Becoming A Young, Rich Entrepreneur"....yes...sounds very cheesy and salesman like HOWEVER the contents of this 128 page book are very, extremely honest.

Ken doesn't pitch you anything. He goes through the three parts of effective progress for anything in life not just wealth building. Focus + Goals, Time management, and Delegation (this is crucial to wealth building) This might seem real simple but trust me simplicity is what you want and if you APPLY the those three things you'll learn alot. For example reading over the time management part had me realized how much excess time I was spending on researching for a new car when I could've used that extra hour to promote my business. Not only does it make you realize what you should be doing instead....Ken gives very SIMPLE tips on how to successfully re-direct your focus and use of time.

Chapter 12 "DECEPTIVE MONEYMAKING OFFERS" details so many of the programs I got duped into doing such as the "Foreign Lottery", chain letter with the 5 names, envelope stuffing, etc. Fortunately I got duped into those programs at the young age of 16 (I'm about 20 now) so I LEARNED ALOT that year of my life. That chapter could be an eye opener for many people out there especially a teen. They target teens for a reason.

Book is very short, simple, and very applicable to the REAL WORLD. The fact that it's short and simple is even better because it makes mastery of the material so much easier.

We humans are so complex in the mind because we tend to analyze EVERYTHING and to make things so damn complicated. At least I do but it the end I'm always reminded to keep it simple and basic.

Well, the decision is yours. You know how I feel about the book.

Exhaustive Research & Fascinating Concept.......2005-02-24

Through exhaustive genealogical and historical research, as well as an interesting new hypothesis, Val Rust has endeavored to show that the roots of Mormonism extend well back of the 1830 date of the official organization of the Church. He has identified 583 of the earliest converts and carefully reconstructed genealogies and attendant family histories for each. The result is really quite fascinating. A majority of the earliest converts to Mormonism came from family religious traditions that uniquely prepared them to accept the radical new Church. Ancestors of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Parley P. Pratt and other lesser known founding fathers, have a religious heritage spread among the Antinomians, Seekers, Anabaptists, Quakers and other radical religions (including the Family of Love). Rust endeavors to show that a proclivity for free-thinking in religious matters as well as a family tradition of "seeking" a restoration of original Christianity was transmitted along family lines. Although treated elsewhere, I particularly enjoyed Rust's presentation of the strong New England influence on Joseph Smith's family, and the indentifying of specific congregations to which they belonged.

To my knowledge, an attempt of this kind has never been made before, at least not on this scale. And it would be safe to say that Rust succeeds quite nicely with his hypothesis. While those unfamiliar to Mormonism may find find some of the references to earliest Mormon history a little arcance, there is no denying that he makes a compelling case for a people prepared to receive a restoration of the gospel. A 40-page appendix gives ther names of all 583 early converts in this study, together with their known ancestors through five generations.

This is the kind of work that reshapes our view of history and encourages us to look in a different direction for an historical understanding of those spiritual forces that drive us all. We need more research of this kind.

In the early 1800s, the outpost of Bellevue, Nebraska Territory was the home of the Omaha Indians as well as that of Logan Fontenelle, the half-breed son of the famous fur-trader Lucien Fontenelle.
