Customer Reviews:
A little weak.......2004-11-30
A friend sent me this book to read.
The author, Walters, seems to be of the self-help school and uses a lot of literary license.
from page 1 of the book:
....Perhaps, then, that ancient saying should be amended to read, "The love of money is the root of all evil."
Too bad Mr. Walters Bible knowledge isn't as good as his knowledge of the Bhagavad Vita, because the Bible says exactly what he is saying "the ancient saying should be amended to say".
(It says it in 1 Timothy 6:10)
Like I said, that was page 1.....it kind of goes downhil from there.
Great Book~.......2004-07-24
This is a small book, but packed with powerful information that has the ability to change your life. You will find techniques and keys for attracting the power and success that everyone seeks in life.
But please don't make the mistake that too many people make and assume that because it is a small book, just read it once and toss it aside. Read and reread this great book regularly and it will change your life.
A practical, concise, and invaluable guide to money.......1999-05-12
Money Magnetism is one of the best guides to attracting what you need when you need it that I have ever read. Although there are many thousands of books that discuss the techniques and theories for picking stocks, buying insurance, or building your career, there are very few that actually discuss--or even understand--the more subtle energetic and spiritual principles behind finding true wealth. But it is these underlying principles, of course, that form the true basis of all success. Money Magnetism explains these principles and gives simple, easy-to-follow techniques to magnetise the resources you need to lead a rich and fulfilling life. Even if you think you are looking for a book on hard-core financial management--buy this book, too. Understanding these principles will help you to more wisely and efficiently implement whatever investment or career strategy you choose. An amazing value for only 7.95!
How to put in practice the spiritual principles of abundance.......1998-06-17
An enjoyable read. I found this book to reveal the simplicity of the laws of attraction and abundance. Life doesn't have to be complicated with regard to being happy, it's generaly our perception of events. I liked his reflection that we are all part of a greater, intelligent reality. Also, the methods of concentration and affirmation are very "doable" for anyone.
Phamphlet's worth of information in a book.......1998-02-07
There's one way of attracting money that Donald Walters leaves out: write a little pamphlet, then lay out each page in large font and surround it with lots of white space. This way, only a few paragraphs make an entire page, and you can call your pamphlet a book and charge a lot more! For the perfect example of this, see this book.

Book Description
There is no greater or more powerful or more pure human rapport with the elements than that experienced by a surfer dancing with the ocean. In Dancing the Wave, Jean-Etienne Poirier brings alive the world of surfing by offering historical, anthropological, and cultural perspectives on this increasingly popular sport. By recounting tales of his own surfing adventures, he opens the door to this world beyond the summer sun and simple pleasures of the ride, inviting readers to reflect upon the true place of human beings in the universe. This book is for all board riders, for all those who are touched by the forces of the ocean, and for all those who wish to understand the boldness of surfers, who join power and elegance in that harmonious dance with the sinuous movement of the wave.
Customer Reviews:
best surfing book you can get.......2005-12-05
If you're looking for a book that tells you the technical way to ride your board, then this book isn't for you. But if you're looking for a book that really gets at the heart and soul of surfing, then you will love what this true rider has to say.
Dancing the Wave.......2003-08-20
I bought this book on an impulse after reading the back cover and a few pages. The promise of those impressions was not realized in the work. I wanted very much to like the book, but in the end felt that it jumped around, scratched alot of surfaces, and never really became insightful in the way I had hoped. Also, on a couple of subjects it actually seemed very shallow, almost to the point of being being cliched. I think there are much better and more insightful books on the subject, I would not recommend this title.

Perhaps the only poetry book about surfing in print. A poet surfer traslates translates the ocean's embrace in graceful meditative poetry counterposed with the joyful languge of mystic Rumi. Book includes the stunning surf and water photographys by the artist photographer Wayne Levin.
Customer Reviews:
LONGBOARD MAGAZINE Review, Jan/Feb..2000.......2000-01-11
Steven Curry's second book of poems is a look into the dreamy reality of island life and the wonderous feelings that living in a surfer's paradise can inspire.
Curry's poetry keeps it soothing tone, vibrant imagery and active language constant throughout this entire collection of unrhymed verse, moving between the heavenly landscapes of Hawaii and its relaxed, underwater world. The short translations of thirteenth century poet/philosopher Rumi and unique seascapes of Wayne Levin make Dancing The Waves And Other Poems a complete product.
Standout excerpts are; "Bodysurfing Makapu'u," comparing the "bone-jarring" power of a shorebreak pounder against the "Soft curl" of the same ride; "Small-Day Wave-Play," with its calm, "Crystalline" images; the respectful, introspective goodby, "Elegy (Sea Burial); "Na Kupuna O Ke Kai," an homage to senior longboarders and their favorite morning ritual; the celebration of volcanic life in "Lava Variations"; and "Still Point In Motion," ending the assembladge with a soulful breakdown of surfing.
Dancing The Waves And Other Poems is an original opus, possibly the only collection of surf-flavored poems in print, with phraseology demanding a second and third reaading.

Product Description
Sandy and the Dancing Waves takes a very simple and delightful approach to science and helps explain how a pearl is formed from a piece of sand and an oyster. The book stars Sandy, a delightful character with whom young children can identify.
Sandy, the adventurous grain of sand, enjoys fun in the sun on the beach riding the waves with her friends but she wants more. Through a rough ride on the waves she meets an oyster and year after year they become friends.
One day a fisherman harvested the oyster and found Sandy, now a beautiful pearl. Sandy's travels lead her to a jeweler's shop where she is made into a gold pin. How she gets back home we leave as a mystery. Back home on the beach she finds true happiness with her friends and discovers that not only is she a beautiful pearl but that she possesses a new inner beauty.
There is an educational component of Level 1: Reading Sight Words color-coded throughout the story and Beach Words placed on the pictures. There is a self-expression page at the end of the book entitled "My Beach Story."

Book Description
Marcus Cato Sulla Aemilius Paullus Pompey The Gracchi Marius Julius Caesar Anthony 'I treat the narrative of the Lives as a kind of mirror...The experience is like nothing so much as spending time in their company and living with them: I receive and welcome each of them in turn as my guest.' In the eight lives of this collection Plutarch introduces the reader to the major figures and periods of classical Rome. He portrays virtues to be emulated and vices to be avoided, but his purpose is also implicitly to educate and warn those in his own day who wielded power. In prose that is rich, elegant and sprinkled with learned references, he explores with an extraordinary degree of insight the interplay of character and political action. While drawing chiefly on historical sources, he brings to biography a natural story-teller's ear for a good anecdote. Throughout the ages Plutarch's Lives have been valued for their historical value and their charm. This new translation will introduce new generations to his urbane erudition. The most comprehensive selection available, it is accompanied by a lucid introduction, explanatory notes, bibliographies, maps and indexes.
Customer Reviews:
A Timeless Classic By One Of The Best Biographers In History.......2005-08-10
Plutarch in his "Lives Of The Noble Grecians And Romans" written around 100 C.E., sheds new light on Greek and Roman history from their Bronze Age beginnings, shrouded in myth, down through Alexander and late Republican Rome. Plutarch is the lens that we use today to view the Greco-Roman past; his work has shaped our perceptions of that world for 2,000 years. Plutarch writes of the rise of Roman Empire while Gibbon uses his scholarship to advance the story to write about its decline. He was a proud Greek that was equally effected by Roman culture, a Delphic priest, a leading Platonist, a moralist, educator and philosopher with a deep commitment as a first rate writer. Being a Roman citizen, Plutarch was afforded the opportunity to become an intimate friend to prominent Roman citizens and a member of the literary elite in the court of Emperor Trajan.
Plutarch's influence and enormous popularity during and after the Renaissance is legendary among classicist. Plutarch's "Lives", served as the sourcebook for Shakespeare's Roman Plays "Julius Caesar", "Antony and Cleopatra" and "Coriolanus". By the way Plutarch is even the only contemporary source of all the biographical information on Cleopatra, whom he writes about in his biographies of Julius Caesar, Mark Antony and Octavian. Thomas Jefferson wrote to his nephew that there were three books every gentleman had to have familiarity with; Plutarch's "Lives", Livy's "History of Rome" and Virgil's Aeneid. In fact all the founding fathers of note had read Plutarch and learned much from his fifty biographies of noble men of Greece and Rome. When Hamilton, Jay and Madison write "The Federalist Papers" they use many examples of good and bad leadership traits that they read in Plutarch's work. His biographies are a great study in human character and what motivates leaders to decide and act the way they do, this masterpiece has proven to be still prescient today.
If you are truly interested in a classical education, put this book on the top of your list! I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in political philosophy, and history.
Good but not definitive anthology.......2003-03-28
This fine, well-edited translation would be THE translation to get for Plutarch's best Roman lives ... IF they had included the Life of Cicero. (Soldiers outweigh orators in the Oxford hierarchy.) As it is, the Penguin "Fall of the Roman Republic" anthology remains useful.
That said, Oxford has been kicking Penguin tail with its scholarly, up-to-date translations of classical texts. Penguin has been sprucing up its backlist some, but I always look for an Oxford first, if there is one.
please read this book.......2000-05-11
This is an excellent translation of a timeless classic. The notes are well done and thorough and the introduction is very helpful whether you are a scholarly type or an interested lay reader. The only qualm I have is that it was often hard to know when the action of each life took place. This is a minor glich, however, and does not hinder from the overall enjoyment of the work. The lives are biography, history, psychology, comedy, tragedy and farce all in one. Plutarch's narrative is brisk and never dull; he mixes anecdotes and interpretation deftly, but never forces the reader one way or the other. He is a masterful essayist and biographer and these works can be read repeatedly with enjoyment each time. Highly recommended.

Successful fundraising provides more than financing. In asking for money, you tell people about the needs of your community and how your organization is meeting those needs. That can result in new donations, new volunteers and new friends for your organization. Raising at least a portion of the budget from local donors can also increase financial independence. This series of these books gives practical guidance on getting started: it shows how good fundraisers think and what questions they ask, with many examples from organizations in developing countries. It can help organizations anywhere give their activities a boost. The stronger your organization, the more attractive it will be to funders. This book focuses on building credibility as a way to make successful fundraising happen, and gives an introduction to raising the money you need when you need it. Book Description
Olivier Messiaen is widely revered as a great 20th-century composer. His distinctive music was born of his fascination with experimental modes, complex rhythms, metallic sonorities, and above all, bird songs. In these conversations, Messiaen talks candidly about his sources of inspiration, musical methods, and aesthetic views.
Customer Reviews:
Messiaen in his own words, works almost like a great autobiography.......2005-10-19
OLIVIER MESSIAEN: Music and Color, a book-length interview conducted by Claude Samuel, is the closest thing we have to an autobiography of the late French composer of deeply religious music. Samuel, a friend of the composer for three decades, set down with Messiaen in 1986 to discuss his career, philosophy, musical techniques, travels, and thoughts about contemporary music.
His youth and first love of birds is covered, as well as the various adventures he had through life searching new bird-watching (and bird-listening) opportunities. Tens of pages are dedicated to how he perceived sound and colour, as he experienced synasthesia, and his rhythmic innovations. As Messiaen was nearing the end of his life, the interview deals at length with generations after Messiaen's own. The composer is full of praise for Boulez and Xenakis and his younger wife Yvonne Loriod, but his most effusive praise is reserved for George Benjamin, one of his last students (whose career doesn't seem to have taken off quite as much as Messiaen expected). The book decades over 40 pages to "Saint Francois d'Assisi", Messiaen's opera of epic proportions premiered in 1983. Messiaen seems to hold this as his most important work, and it's a pity that nowadays it is almost forgotten while "lesser" works like "Turangalila-symphonie" and the Quatuor are frequently performed.
I learned a little bit more about certain works by Messiaen by reading this interview, and a lot more about the man Messiaen and what he felt was his mission in life. Worth reading for fans of the great composer.
Most informative.......2000-07-23
I find this book the definitive source of information about the personal views of Olivier Messiaen. Claude Samuel seems to be well aquainted with Messiaens music and poses interesting and thought-provoking questions to the maestro. The book contains passages about bird-song and greek poetry wich are quite fascinating for a layman. Also quite curious are some of Messiaens personal opinions on some of the most important composers in history. There is enough facts about Messiaens music to satisfy even those who are allready familiar with his works. The book is written in an understandable manner, yet deep enough for musicians and scholars to get a lot out of it.
Extremely informative.......2000-07-22
This book is the definitive source of information about Messiaens personal views and opinions. Claude Samuel, the interwiever, is apparently quite familiar with Messiaens works and sets intelligent and thought-provoking questions to the maestro. Messiaen talks about his compositional techniques in an understandable manner, yet deep enough to satisfy the need of professional musicians as well. Delightful information is also given about Messiaens pupils and peers: Boulez, Xenakis and Stockhausen. Also somewhat surprising are his (often quite cruel) personal opinions about some composers who normally are considered to be some of the most influential in history. Also for a non-ornithologer there is a fascinating passage about bird-song and its influence and application to Messiaens music. I deeply recommend this book to everyone even remotely interested in one of the most important musical figures of the 20th century.
