Book Description

Twenty years ago, Kirbyjon H. Caldwell was a fast-track bond broker with an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. But he turned away from a six-figure income to answer the call of his Divine purpose. With the explosive power that comes from combining prayer with action, Caldwell transformed a struggling twenty-five-member congregation into a lean, mean Kingdom-building machine. The Windsor Village United Methodist Church now has more than 11,000 members and 120 ministries for everything from job placement and financial planning to weight loss and alcohol rehabilitation.

The transformation of Windsor began with a simple truth: God wants His children to have good success! Not just the traditional concept of spiritual blessings, but redemption in every aspect of our existence: our emotions, career, finances, relationships, health, parenting skills, academic career, and more.

In The Gospel of Good Success, Caldwell shares with you the six steps that transformed his life and Windsor Village. In his own inimitable, energetic style he will show you how to:

* Find Your Calling
* Stage a Comeback
* Take the Faith Walk
* Whup the Devil
* Create Wealth God's Way
* Develop God-Blessed Relationships

There is a road to good success. God does not always offer instant gratification, however. Only if you are willing to make the sacrifices of the journey will you enter the place where all the pieces of your life -- your spiritual, financial, physical, professional, emotional, and relational pieces -- will be in sync, not as pieces of some convoluted puzzle but as pieces fitting harmoniously together as a whole: the place that Pastor Caldwell calls Holistic Salvation.

Let this book be your road map to Holistic Salvation. God has given you the promise of an absolutely successful life. Stand up. Claim it. Attain it. Be Whole.

3 out of 5 stars Holistic Salvation is part of God's plan.......2006-01-05

I was encouraged to read the testimony of Kirbyjon Caldwell in how he stepped out to his calling and ventured into a dying church, and being used of God to revive it into something that no one could have imagined. This book is a good guide for one who is looking to understand what holistic salvation is, where good success is part of it. In a sense, salvation does not just mean that we have saved from hell, but that salvation is also being saved from the effects of the devil, health, healing, etc. In a word... it is WHOLENESS.

Caldwell gives 6 main points to holistic salvation, (1) Find Your Calling, (2) Stage a Comeback, (3) Take the Faith Walk, (4) Whup the Devil, (5) Create Wealth God's Way, and (6) Develop God-Blessed Relationships. In the book, he explains in detail each of the main points, and has numerous nuggets of insight and revelation hidden between the pages. You can take this book as someone counseling you through the areas of your life, and answering the questions that is asked, and work through issues that it talks about, you begin to walk in that wholeness of God.

The only part of this book which I found difficult was the colloquailisms used which would not be understood in cultures different from the writers. However, it brings a lot of good truths, and the following are some of the one-liners.

- God may promise, but you must push.
- Do what you love, the money will follow.
- God cares more about who you can become that who you've been.
- Faith is not bound by fact or intellect.
- Trust = Belief + Action. Belief is static; trust is dynamic.
- Real growth always involves change.
- Never consider yourself above criticism, beneath redemption, or beyond hope.
- Faith + Good Stewardship + Giving = Abundance
- Even if you have absolutely nothing... no one can deny you your power to believe!

3 out of 5 stars A Plan for the Future.......2005-04-20

In his book, THE GOSPEL OF GOOD SUCCESS, Kirbyjon Caldwell depicts a pathway to what he refers to as `holistic salvation'. To be successful on this journey there are six steps that must be personally internalized and outwardly exhibited. These steps are: Finding Your Calling, Staging a Comeback, Embarking on a Faith Walk, Whupping the Devil, Creating Wealth God's Way, and Learn and Practice the Fundamentals of God-Blessed Relationships.

Caldwell intertwines the word of God with his own personal experiences as the Pastor of Windsor Village United Methodist Church in Houston, TX to clarify the steps to holistic salvation. His flowing writing style is energetic, informative and thought-provoking. He discusses with honest candor and a shining zeal the steps he has taken in his Christian walk to achieve spiritual success, and in doing so, he plants food for thought in the mind of his readers.

When I first selected this book, I thought it would cater to having a successful business, and possibly offering advice on how to create and launch a business plan. Yet, this wasn't really the case. THE GOSPEL OF GOOD SUCCESS is an individual guidebook into healthier, more wholesome relationships with yourself, your peer groups and your God.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!.......2004-04-27

I have read this book at least 4 times and each time I am inspired and encouraged. If you are trying to change your life or accomplish your goals, this is the book to read! The author is truly an blessed and knowledgeable man. I can confess I have made some truly positive changes in my life after reading this book.

5 out of 5 stars SPIRITUALITY AND SUCCESS.......2001-01-24

I read this book because of the author's skillful and articulate interview on the Bill O'Reilly televised show. I liked his demeanor and his clarity on the power of perception. His book is equally concise. He offers common sense religious avenues for dealing with the issues of today, and transforming your life. His road map covers emotions, finances, career, health, parenting. Among his six strategic steps to success is "stage a comeback". I especially liked that passage. It dissipates the perception of failure. A mistake is an opportunity to make a wiser decision the next time. If you enjoyed, Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson's "From Rage to Responsibility", and Harold Klemp's,"Secret of Love", you will glean a lot from Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell's , "Gospel of Good Success". I did. Start working on your self-esteem and your self-confidence today. Your success is in your hands.

5 out of 5 stars a Spiritual Guide for the VISIONARY.......2000-02-09

This book is a must read! If you are struggling on how to bring some of your dreams to fruition please read this roadmap to WHOLENESS. I am not the avid reader but I was so engrossed and encouraged in his philosophy toward Holistic Salvation. the Gospel of Good Success opened my mind to new directions that I needed to begin for my journey of perservance when completing my goals. I have found new life within these 256 powerfully written words.

    5 out of 5 stars Enjoy Your Life and The Friends You Make.......2001-08-13

    Autobiography of a Good Life by Roger L. Lee

    Roger Lee led a varied and vigorous life on which he wrote an autobiography. He wrote the story of his life after he lost his daughter in a car accident and had a debilitating stroke. He wrote it as part of his self planned and determined recovery effort in the Canary Islands. He relearned his English, which was his mother tongue and touch-typing on a laptop computer using Microsoft Word.

    He grew up on a West Virginia hill farm where most of his friends' grandest ambition was to get into the military service for the Korean War. They saw this as a way to get away from the farm and see some of the world.

    When Roger was six years old he started his formal education in a one-room country school. The school was a two-mile walk one way. The highest grade in the school was the eighth. He didn't know that there were higher grades available when you got out of the hills.

    His father died when he was eight years old. His mother raised him and his younger sister and brother with the aid of the hill farm. His uncle came and gave his mother a hand by moving into a small house on the farm and sharecropping the first three years after his father's death.

    Roger Lee enlisted in the US Air Force when he was eligible at 18 years old and went to Texas for basic training. This was the beginning of his education. He went from basic training to radio school in Illinois. Then back to Texas and from there to Japan back to the US for a tour at Washington D. C. From there he went back to Japan again. He came back to Texas after two years. All this time he kept working on a correspondence course in radio and radar and received his First Class Radio License.

    He received an honorable discharge from the US Air Force and went to work in the field he knew best, electronics. Later he was sent to Europe and saw a great deal of the western world while working on US contracts. He was always curious about the people he met in the countries where he worked, their food, the way they lived, how they earned a living and their language.

    When Roger came back to the US he went to work as a technical writer in electronics and started college at the University of Maryland to improve his writing. He was soon bored by the US and went back to Canary Islands in Spain where he was employed at the Spacecraft Tracking Station.

    He stayed at the Canaries Spacecraft Tracking Station until he became the Operations Manager and Armstrong Landed on the moon. Then a good friend took the job of managing the Spacecraft Tracking Station on Ascension Island and asked him to come down with him for a few months. Roger had a family by this time, but he left his wife and daughter, a new car, an apartment, and a yacht that he had acquired in the Canaries and went to Ascension for four months.

    Back in the Canaries after four months he was `sort of at loose ends.' A telephone by another friend gave him something to do. The friend offered him a position at the Alaska Spacecraft Tracking Station. He thought about it, sold his car and yacht and took his wife and daughter to Alaska.

    Roger spent a year and a half in Alaska and bought another house. He got itchy feet again, took wife and daughter and took off around the world. He was lucky there was plenty of electronics work and interesting people where he stopped in Hawaii and Australia. He dropped off his wife and daughter in the Canaries and continued on back to Alaska. This completed the trip around the world. He was scheduled for two months in Alaska this time and sold his house there.

    Lasers were something he had never worked with so when he was offered a job in the NASA laser network he jumped at it. This meant that he took his wife and daughter back to Maryland and bought another house. From a year there he went on a contract with the Royal Saudi Navy in Saudi Arabia. From there he back to Texas to help write a proposal on the shuttle contract. Then he went back to Europe to work with the European Space Agency.

    Later he lost his daughter in a car accident in Texas while he was still working for the European Space Agency, quite work, and went back to the Canaries where he had a stroke that resulted in this book. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.

    4 out of 5 stars From Farm Boy To A Man With The World As A Teacher.......2001-05-14

    This box is about life, one life in particular, the author's life. It covers the time from the time he tries to give his three week old sister popcorn until his daughter is killed in a car accident; he retires in Europe, and has a stroke. It descries 21 days in a hospital. The hospital in on the Grand Canary Island. I believe you will be surprised by the hospital and the care he received.

    In between the popcorn incident with his baby sister and his stroke 60 years later he covered a good part of the world and got an education at the same time. His father died when he was 8 and his mother raised him on a West Virginia hill farm until he was 18. His mother then managed the farm and made a good living for Roger and his sister and brother. He worked on the farm along with his sister and brother until the Korean War started when he enlisted in the US Air Force.

    He stayed in the Air Force for 8 years, 4 of which he spent in Japan. When he was honorable discharged from the US Air Force he went to work for Bendix as a tech rep.

    With Bendix he was working in communications, radar, lasers, and computers in hardware and software. His work took him from Europe, to Libya, and Saudi Arabia to Alaska by way of Australia. When he was working in Europe he spent time in Turkey and on the Azores Islands. During his stay he married a Spanish Lady he later to went to Maryland, right outside of Washington D. C. where his daughter was borne. In Maryland he was a tech writer. Several years (12) of his working life was with NASA (as a contractor). He was manning a console on the Manned Space Flight Station in Canary Island when Armstrong landed on the moon.

    You will find Roger's life interesting. But the book is really about growing up, developing a philosophy of life and finally becoming a man.

    5 out of 5 stars I have read this book several times and it's time to read again.......2007-07-02

    My favorite book on LDS history, not only about the life of a modern day Samson, Porter Rockwell but the church as a whole. His love and devotion to the Prophet Joseph and for the church as a whole. Thirty years ago after returning from my LDS mission I found Man of God Son of Thunder refreshing and fun to read a book about the church that gave all sides and perspectives and was neither whitewashed by the church nor just another anti-mormon book. Many LDS folks seem afraid or ashamed of our history, reading this book helped me understand how things were during the early days of the church and though some things would certainly be controvercial by today's standards they made sense during those rough and troubled times and we have nothing in our past we need to hide or be ashamed of. This is a great book to read about LDS history and an entertaining story of one of the most under recognized but important pioneers of the church and the Mormon migration. A body guard to two prophets an important scout, mediator with native americans of the Utah territory, rancher, pony express rider, US marshall, actor and devout Mormon High Priest to the end. I love this book.

    I bought this book for a reenactment study. Very valuable. Gave me a lot of insight, not only into the life of Rockwell but also into the mindset of the Mormon Church at that stage of its evolution. The book has great merit.

    4 out of 5 stars Worth it.......2006-07-08

    Im no scholar, but I am a person very interested in the life of ol port. I think we all have our paradigms about the guy. Me, being lds like to think of him as a hero, a protector etc etc.. Granted nobody is perfect and I am sure he has plenty of flaws. Whether you are lds or not this book should appeal to you.. There is some amazing information, although schindler does try a little too hard to show the ugly side of things at times with false and unbacked claims. You will notice almost everytime that porter is aquitted for some crime, due to lack of evidence or witnesses, he has some ugly footnote from someone named "achilles" an author that has no identity whatsoever.. So it is slightly frustrating that everything good has to also have a bad for the sake of being unbiassed.. Read the book, its worth it, if you are lds though,, beware, there are some questionable stories that have no real backing but to someone who lacks church history knowledge and testimony, might shake you up a little bit.. Not to say that hearing both sides of things is a bad thing, cause its not. Just make sure you read all the foot notes to filter through the junk.. There is a lot of it..

    5 out of 5 stars Sampson for America.......2003-09-23

    Rockwell was a legend. He grew his hair long and had dark penetrating eyes. A 'Man of god' an early convert to Mormonism he became one of Smiths most trusted men. When Joseph was killed he had risen to become a defender of the Mormon church, but a defender who preffered the gun to the good book and a horse to the pulpit. Rockwell helped lead his people west and then his legend grew. He fought indians and crushed anyone who would threaten the church again. He helped found Deseret, the mormon nation and carved a living out of the hard scrabble desert of Utah.

    He served as a Church leader for many years and the eastern press never forgave him for his involvement with the Danites, a secret society that took vengeance upon the gentiles who persecuted Mormons up and down the old northwest eventually chasing the Saints out of Missouri and Nauvoo.

    This harrowing story of blood and guts and honor is told in a folksy manner that brings you back to the camp fire for one more round of tales. The most amazing poart of this book is that Rockwells story is true. An american classic.

    A great read for anyone interested in the history of the Mormon church, the american west, or the individual tradition of self defense.

    5 out of 5 stars The definitive biography of Rockwell.......2003-08-04

    Harold Schindler's biography on Mormon bad-boy Orrin Porter Rockwell is still the best biography of Rockwell out there. Moreover, it may be one of the best biographies of any early Mormon written. This book is not even so much about the quiet, enigmatic Rockwell as it is the genesis of an American religious movement.

    Rockwell is a hard historical figure. He is a legendary figure whom the LDS church has tended to whitewash. Non-Mormon historians have had a tendency to villify him, making him a murderer and a theif. Somewhere, undoubtedly in the middle, lies the truth. Instead of writing an indictment or an apology for his life, Schindler writes a well-balanced account of Rockwell's life. He doesn't necessarily try to provide answers or justifications, only gives the facts and lets the reader decide. No doubt Schindler's objectivity and meticulous research has made this volume stand the test of time to become a classic in Mormon history.

    I don't think I have ever said this about a book before: Probably just as engaging and interesting as the book itself are the footnotes which sometimes take up more of the page than the text. This is an awesome bibliographic reference as well. Not only does Schindler tell you about the life and times of Rockwell, he also tells many fascinating historical asides. If you don't believe or are suspcious about his research, then one may look at the documents he was viewing. Schindler does an excellent job of backing up most everything that he says.

                Book Description

                The organisation and management of health care services is a central theme within public policy across the post-industrial world. Demographic, socio-economic and technological changes present challenges for policy makers and health care professionals alike and there is constant pressure for the reorganisation of health care systems in pursuit of accessible, high quality, cost-effective health care delivery in modern democratic societies. Managing & Marketing Health Services provides a critical overview of the key challenges facing health care policy makers, managers and professionals in managing the design and delivery of health care services. It introduces a number of key themes - the service design process, the management of inter-organisational relationships, nderstanding health care consumers and evaluating service quality - to provide an integrated, holistic perspective on the delivery of health care services. Managing & Marketing Health Services is intended for professionals involved in Health Care Management.

                    Book Description

                    Managing the Internal Market inquires into the management and operation of the key institutions of the NHS internal market in acute services, now in its fourth year of commissioning. It addresses the complexity and importance of 'managed competition' by offering both broad accounts by leading academics and chapters by practitioners - purchasers, providers, managers, doctors and nurses - two worlds not frequently brought together in a single volume. Only by listening to these different voices, with their particular interests and ways of viewing the internal market, will an adequate understanding begin to emerge.

                          From the supplier: Insurance Consultant Jack Fries advised insurance agents to improve their management of small commercial lines and service for up to 54% boost in profits. They can do this by reducing their reliance on outside producers. Small commercial lines often do not raise enough revenue to justify the salary and commissions of outside producers, he said. He further advised agencies to merge their personal and small commercial lines to improve efficiency.

                            Book Description

                            Focusing On Foreclosures is a step by step primer in the art of acquiring foreclosure real estate. The book walks you through the foreclosure process to determine the best strategy to use for your situation, as well as, the property owner and lien holders position.

                            Learn how the experts buy Pre-foreclosures by starting at the beginning of the process - when the lender files a complaint against the property owner (up to 2 years before the actual Sheriff's sale). This is the point when the property owner is highly motivated to make a deal rather than face the prospect of loosing the real estate and destroying their credit. This strategy can command the largest discounts - up to 60%. Learn successful techniques for negotiating with troubled property owners to translate a problem situation to a Win/Win solution.

                            Diversify your strategy by purchasing the mortgage at deep discount from the Lender (short sale) and setting your upset price at the Sheriff's Auction. Negotiate with subordinate lien holders to control the property for "pennies on the dollar".

                            Learn techniques for bidding at the Sheriff's Auction to avoid "Auction Fever" and minimize your costs. Discover how to protect yourself from unusual liens by buying REO (Real Estate Owned) from lenders while negotiating a significant discount using proven professional techniques.

                            Before jumping in to your first deal, this book will help you target your goals. Your criteria may be very different depending on whether this is a home to live in or an investment property. Use the enclosed worksheets to target your geographic area, determine your housing/investment needs and discover how much you can afford.

                            After you set your goals, the book describes how to be an effective detective. There are several information sources which list pre-foreclosures, foreclosures of government agencies (RTC/FDIC) and REO's. The book discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

                            A drive by worksheet is included to record information about each prospective property. After the drive-by, any properties not eliminated must be fully researched. The book details some unusual information sources to compile your information reserve about the property. For example, did you know the tax assessor for the town can tell you the number of bedrooms and other interior improvement as well as any impending assessments? But you have to know how to ask the right questions.

                            Your detective work is not complete until you visit the Hall Of Records to research the mortgages, deeds and liens. The book describes, in detail, how to perform this research including determining if there are any superior federal or tax liens.

                            Before you make a deal, you must determine what the foreclosure property is worth and apply the simple formula provided in the book. Using the research you have already obtained, you adjust the comparables for your target property and apply a discount for your level of risk. We'll show you how to compute the cost of the liens and equity of tenant security deposits to determine your baseline deal. Discover creative ways to secure temporary financing to acquire the real estate, as well as, long term financing.

                            There are special techniques to make a successful deal. There are literally hundreds of questions to be answered before you can determine if this deal is the one for you. We address them thoroughly in our text, before any contact is made with the owner of the property or the attorney for the lender. In fact, the book shows you how the foreclosure property owner will contact you!

                            You only have one chance to make a first impression and first impressions count. Your prior research, will give you the facts to increase your credibility with the lender as well as test the honesty of the property owner. The steps outlined in this book give you a successful tract and lead you to the most profitable deal.

                            1 out of 5 stars Too General to be of much use.......2000-09-09

                            I read the book and it was very general. If you knew a lot already you might pick up a few tips, but the book does not have the content needed to teach you how to do this business. Skip this one.

                            3 out of 5 stars Good but not enough........1999-07-03

                            Good guide to buying foreclosed properties but to much generalities. No one seems to share the real secrets in buying foreclosed properties. Need a good book on researching liens.

                                      I AM in good health, but always sleepy. Papa has snatched from my pen all that I had to write about, which is, that he has already written everything. Signora Gabrielli is here, and we are soon going to see her, as we wish to become acquainted with all distinguished singers.

                                      4 out of 5 stars nothing like the master's own words.......2002-07-02

                                      very helpful to read Mozart's own words, & correspondence w/his father & others. would be helpful to have more footnotes, & more of the texts. what is there is tantalizing.
