Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Simple But yet informative!.......2002-05-26

Let me warn you so called "experts" of tax havens this book is very simple. Maybe, just maybe thats the reason why this book is very good in my opinion. It explains all the terms that you NEED to know in layman's terms. A lot of tax haven books are full of lawyer jargon! This book also does a pretty good job explaining things that people might not even think about when considering offshore activities such as choosing a haven with a time zone exactly like yours or similiar to it. It also explains how tax havens with U.S economic ties are a NO-NO if you really want to protect assets! And for all you really patriotic people( sorry im not!) he expalins why the U.S. is really a slavemaster taking allor most of your income and how if they lowered taxes it will actually add dollars to the economy because rich people would keep their money in the U.S.!
Do yourself a favor Buy this Book and mOve OFFSHORE!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of offshores.......1999-09-16

I recommend this book. In my opinion, it gives a good overview of what, why and how of offshores. It doesn't go into too much detail, presumably because every case is different, but it gives enough for you to start somewhere and to know how to go on. It's also easy and entertaining to read, with real-life examples. It does feel a bit short, though.

5 out of 5 stars Insightful -- a must-read........1999-07-19

Excellent book! It tells you about keeping your privacy, keeping offshore communications confidential, banking offshore, and just what a Trust is all about. The information presented is really practical. Overall, I thought it valuable information, and well worth my $20.

5 out of 5 stars Lots of Detail-No Legalese.......1999-07-19

I thought it was a really good review of exactly how to set yourself up offshore. The other offshore books that I have read do not reveal much regarding how it all works. This book walks you through the entire process. Also liked the author's style of writing. It was easy to read and entertaining in its story-like format. I would recommend it highly.

2 out of 5 stars Too general to be useful........1999-07-12

This book is not worth the price. You can get the same information by visiting a few web sites. This book is very general and the few examples it gives are superficial.

The book also has a number of annoying features, such as a gimmicky attempt to present the material as a conversation with a fictional "Maria." There are numerous historical stories that are included for no other reason than to fill space it seems. The author also wastes space on his personal political views, digressing for pages at a time on why governments should reduce taxes. (Of course taxes should be reduced, but I didn't buy the book to hear yet another case for tax reduction.)

The book also is very thin on references. The author lists the issues that should be researched, but he doesn't give any sources to consult. Basically you come out of the book with the message of "find a good offshore advisor."

Also, don't buy this book if you want any information about tax implications of going offshore. The author hardly mentions taxes, and when he does, it is to say that he intentionally didn't mention them because there are other books on the subject. Well, save your money and buy those other books instead of this one.

    Book Description

UNCOMMON STOCK MARKET STRATEGIES has been named one of the "Year's Top Investment Books" by the 2004 STOCK TRADER'S ALMANAC!

Now you can ENJOY stock market volatility - and benefit from price movements in either direction - using powerful uncommon investment tools offered by the securities markets and described in UNCOMMON STOCK MARKET STRATEGIES. If you manage your own stock market assets, you can take advantage of these uncommon tools. Learn how you can:

    • Buy a stock at less than today's price. • Sell a stock at more than today's price. • Benefit from price movements in either direction.

How can you buy a stock at less than today's price? By selling a put short to buy a stock.

How can you sell a stock at more than today's price? By selling a covered call, a call that is covered by the ownership of the underlying common stock.

Many investors shy away from options, because of unsatisfactory experiences with buying options. This book utilizes the investment strategy of SELLING OPTIONS SHORT (writing option contracts), not buying options. The options contracts are sold (sell to open) prior to buying them (buy to close).

After explaining the process of selling options short in clear, easy-to-understand terms - using numerous tables and charts to illustrate each step - the book establishes a model, a three-legged strategy, for using these tools in combination with the purchase of common stocks.

The book then covers the steps that follow the establishment of the three-legged strategy, including how to respond to rising, falling, or sideways-moving prices, how to extend a position, how to "write up" a position, how to set up a portfolio, and how to keep track of the positions in that portfolio.

Let UNCOMMON STOCK MARKET STRATEGIES show you how to create and manage a portfolio using these powerful investment tools.

Travels With My Amp is a very skillful, fast paced and fun read. It gives a great insight
in the early years of one of Canada's great rock bands and the man that made them that
way. For the mothers with daughters in the 70's and 80's, your fears of her hanging
around a rock band were well founded once your read this book.
Greg has a wonderful way of expressing himself throughout the book. One can almost

Not to burst anyone's bubble about the wild man himself, I would just like to say that at
one time Greg's son was on the same 'T' Ball team as my son. The coach of that team
was none other the Greg himself. If I may say so, he was truly a wonderful person to meet
and was great with the kids - an all round nice and real human being.

3 out of 5 stars a trip down memory lane.......2004-01-25

The author is my cousin, and i looked forward very much to the publication of this book (and, given that i live in Africa, could only get it via amazon.com). Greg did not let me down: Travels with my Amp is a real trip down memory lane for all those who grew up during the flower power and heavy metal eras of the 1960 and 70s (the book covers a twenty year period between 1964-83 or so). TWMP is a wry, insider's look at life in the rock music fast lane. centred mostly on canada's music scene, it's written with wit, wisdom, humour, anger and frustration. While the writing drags at times (hey... the guy's a musician, not a writer), the book's contents - his takes and reminiscences on style, culture, place, people, events - more than make up for the slow bits. Given its focus, however, TWMA is unavoidably parochial: it therefore will appeal most to Canadians who grew up during this time period. Yet, for readers far and wide there is still much to recommend here. For example, had he structured the narrative more like a novel (like, for example, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius) instead of a sort of helter-skelter diary, then broader themes - e.g. hopes and dreams, highs and lows, struggles with adversity, squandering good fortune, the way coincidence and accident influence the course of our lives - could have been more clearly developed in this largely linear narrative (though he does also use flashbacks and flashforwards and includes observations from others who were there at the time). Nevertheless, these are universal themes and readers will rise high and low with our 'protagonist' in this saga of the transformation of a suburban dweeb into a mildly famous (sorry Greg!) 'pretty bad boy' of rock. Also here are many wonderful snippets of Greg's various brushes with fortune and greatness... there were so many times when i thought, 'if only he had done this...' Well, sometimes he did and sometimes he didn't. The reviews among those members of his family who have read the book generally fall along predictable lines: those of his parents' age dismiss it; those closer to greg's age and younger mostly like it. But isn't this the way rock 'n roll (and its attendants, sex and drugs) has always been: a quintessential marker of the 'generation gap' - between crew cuts and long hair (though the former now defines youth, and the latter, perhaps, aging boomer parents), stasis and change, fitting in and dropping out? i'm really happy greg wrote this book and that i read it: it's a real trip, in more ways than one.

                          5 out of 5 stars wow what a read.......2003-08-16

i couldn't put this down, simply the best book ever on touring, rock and roll in general. i thought i was a fan befor, thanks greg

His many achievements make for a lively, encouraging read packed with plenty of information appropriate for school reports for middle school and advanced elementary readers.

DaddyBank: How to Teach Your Child to Handle Money & Avoid Its Pitfalls by Gregory K. Brough (father of three and experienced financial consultant) is an impressively "parental friendly" and highly recommended guide written especially to help fathers and mothers to educate their children about fiscal responsibility. In a world where credit card companies encourage excessive spending and hefty interest payments, where inflation goes ever up, and the stock market is as trustworthy as quicksand, young people need now more than ever to learn smart money tactics ranging from the simple process of spending less than one earns, to comprehending how compound interest and financial investment returns work.

DaddyBank was easy to read, outlining simple steps to take in sharing the world of finances with children. As an expectant mother, I found this book helpful in preparing me to teach my children the fundamentals of understanding budgeting and intelligently spending and investing money. Not only that, but it taught me ways to change my own budgeting as well. I wish my parents had this book when I was growing up!

I really enjoyed this book since it presented great ideas to teaching children about managing finances in a very simple and easy to follow way. Not only does the book provide ways to teach children, but it also taught me the importance of getting my financial condition in order. So as I implement the ideas of DaddyBank with my family, I'm also working to get out of debt and exercising the self discipline needed to ensure a better financial future for all of us.

Women Soldiers of the Civil War profiles several substantiated cases of female soldiers during the American Civil War, including Sarah Rosetta Wakeman (aka Private Lyons Wakeman, Union); Sarah Emma Edmonds (aka Private Frank Thompson, Union); Loreta Janeta Velazquez (aka Lieutenant Harry T. Buford, Confederate); and Jennie Hodgers (aka Private Albert D. J. Cashier, Union). Also featured are those women who may not have posed as male soldiers but who nonetheless pushed gender boundaries to act boldly in related military capacities, as spies, nurses, and vivandieres ("daughters of the regiment") who bore the flag in battle, rallied troops, and cared for the wounded.

I have been researching women soldiers in the Civil War for five years now, and feel that I am quite qualified to write that this book is below par. Bonnie Tsui repeats what has been written in several other books, not revealing any new information about these remarkable women. She over-uses DeAnne Blanton and Lauren Cooke Burgess's excellent They Fought Like Demons, and I felt that Tsui only became interested in this topic because of that book. I also felt that Tsui wouldn't have gotten this book published had she not graduated from Harvard and had the resulting "connections."

I found this book when I was doing research for my Civil War History class. It was pretty much the only book that I could find about women during the Civil War pertaining to soldiers, nurses, etc. Its an excellent book. Provides alot about many of the women in the book. Tsui is very honest about how she writes and gives a great deal of detail about the women she writes about.

For general readers and Civil War buffs alike, this book brings a new understanding of the valiant women who served in both Union and Confederate armies during the war. These ladies were the heroic forerunners of the women soldiers who serve so well today. Well written, researched in depth, thoroughly documented and easy reading. A worthy addition to Civil War literature.

                                  Book Description

This compilation of 97 biographical essays celebrates public and school library service to children and young adults through the professional lives and contributions of its pioneers and leaders. Devoted entirely to the field of youth library services, the essays represent both outstanding librarians in the field, as well as those whose work has made significant contributions supporting the work of professional youth librarians. Sketches include modern-day workers, spanning the late 19th century until 1999. Will inspire young people as it underscores the continuing importance of youth library services.

Beyond Michael Short, there are few in-depth biographies of Holst. This is one of those biographies containing a wealth of detail that complements the Short. Extended section on Holst's American excursions. A most welcome volume for anyone interested in Holst.

This is one of those examples of don't judge a book by its cover. The content and scholarship are first rate! Highly recommended.
