I'm not a kid and I loved this book. Its engaging and yet true to the history and the times of the American Civil War. I would think the folks in South Carolina that worked so hard to bring the Hunley back to life would find this book a real gem. The Hunley Museum Store should be able to sell lots of them. I recommend it for folks of ALL ages.

This book is an amazing introduction to the history of the Civil War era submarine Hunley. Focused on the most intriguing legend surrounding its captain, Fran Hawk wonderfully recounts the history of the submarine and its tragic end. Another Great Book by Callahan.......2002-04-06

If you are growing anything in soil you should buy this book. As mentioned, Paramagnetism is Yang and Diamagnetism is Yin. Plants are diamagnetic,when measured on a paramagnetic meter, and require paramagnetic soil to be healthy and strong. Ultimately, paramagnetic material is usually silica based rock with small amounts of iron oxide (approx.12%). But not all iron oxide is paramagnetic. As explained in many of Callahan's books, paramagnetism is essential for the healthy growth of friendly bacteria and therefore crops. Do yourself a favour and educate yourself with this book and Nature's Silent Music also by Callahan

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This thesis investigates a cross range smear phenomenon seen in far field, frequency domain Xpatch calculations. The phenomenon is very subtle, manifesting itself in 2-D ISAR images as a low-level scatterer response smeared in the cross range direction. This cross range smear occurs only using complex target models with certain characteristics. It is also a mathematical construct, not occurring in physical SAR systems. Using a carefully constructed scattering target set, Xpatch-generated ISAR images are used to characterize cross range smear in terms of its input parameters. The characterization is done as a DOE- based polynomial approximation to the observed smear levels. Frequency extent and bandwidth have the highest effect on cross range smear, consistently increasing smear with parameter value. Ray density is slightly less important, having primarily squared and second order influence. The choice of diffraction and first bounce algorithm has very little effect on cross range smear. In addition, the performance of a proposed smear reduction technique is analyzed against Xpatch-generated ISAR images. The algorithm generally reduces smear, but the smear reduction magnitude is not a linear function of smear value.
