MUST HAVE FOR ALL INDEPENDENT INVESTOR.......2001-01-02
This book is thorough, in-depth data on the companies of the midcap sector. Having an independent evaluator (not the brokerage inbred stock analysts) discuss and provide not only buy/sell/hold rankings but also give fair values is priceless! The scope of companies covered is vast, and the reviews are extensive and well written. The only down side is fair values, current rankings are a few months out of date, because publishing is not instantaneous. However, this is a good background book, and I like to have a hard copy to thumb thru on those snowed in days. I recommend this book highly along with the s+p 500 large cap and the s+p 600 small cap books. They are all excellent starting places for the independent investor. I subscribe to the standard and poors "personal wealth" on the internet for 9 dollars a month for current reviews/ recommendations.

Book Description
Why "Later in Chicago"? The title is a reference to Henry Adams, (1838-1918). His great-grandfather was President of the United States, as was also his grandfather. His father was a leading American diplomat. Henry Adams became an historian who by learning, thought, and hard work developed two great insights. His Mont Saint Michel and Chartres (privately printed in 1904) was a scholarly study of the architecture and literature of the Medieval church. In it, Adams concluded that the living force of Western culture was centred in the female principle exhibited by the Virgin Mary. He did not think. however, that Mary's influence on Western Europe would be permanent. Lack of material benefit tended to discourage the builders. In 1893 while attending the World's Fair in Chicago, Adams received his second insight. He watched the dynamo of American inventor, George Westinghouse, and found in it, a new source of power more suited to the needs of America! n materialism. As a result he wrote The Education of Henry Adams, privately printed in 1906 but issued to the public in 1918. No book of its decade ever awakened more discussion in America, and to the power of the goddess in a section of his The Education of Henry Adams called "The Virgin and the Dynamo" America and its inhabitants were offered an alternate god — this time not human but a standardized machine which captured the allegiance of men who became, in the words of William Blake, what they beheld.

I have spent my life since I first saw adam trying to make myself as funny and cool as he is. Well when I read this book it let me know a lot of things I didn't know about adam. I reccomend this for any fan. Whether you are also one of his biggest fans like me or just a small fan you'll probably like it.

Adam Sandler is my idol. He has been for a while. I own every movie and have posters and every cd of his and 2 books. This one is awesome. I only gave it 4 stars though because i don't anymore unathourized biography i want a full fledged Adam Sandler autobiography. I shall leave you with this though... This book is a must have for the smallest ot the largest (me) Sandler fan.
