A Great Potential, Nevertheless a Great Fall.......1999-10-11
Please, do write it again, or revise this book fully. I will buy that. For the time being, this book is just a reference of chaos. And a damn good one.
Pretty poor stuff.......1999-10-04
A book tainted with racists comments and research errors.......1998-05-18
In 1967, the mexican president was Díaz Ordaz, and Salinas took office until 1988.
And in the same page too, when talking about that the Volskwagen succeeded as a masses car in Africa and Latin-America he writes :
"...the Beetle had become the vehicle of freedom and mobility for races whom Hitler and Speer would have damned as Untermenschen (subhuman) and consigned to Nacht und Nebel (night and fog = gas chamber)"
What's the point of this comment Mr Mantle?
Through all the book the author seems to be interested in remarking the Nazi background of Henry Ford, the Ford Co. and GM as a way of celebrating them, it seems.
Great potential, but poor follow through.......1997-11-07

Now that the economy has tanked, it's time for corporate execs to remind their employees of who's who and what's what, right? Wrong, warns Bill Jensen in Work 2.0, his rousing but practical blueprint for creating the productive workplace of the future. Employees are any company's most important investors, Jensen reminds the forward-thinking leader; how their contributions of time, attention, ideas, knowledge, passion, energy, and social networks are respected and rewarded will determine the success or failure of the company. Think of Work 2.0 as the new contract these employees are wielding, their sophisticated manifesto for how to get a better return on their investment. It's no longer merely about healthy compensation, good benefits, and a foosball table in the corporate café; today's workers care about how easy it is to make a big impact, how much and how fast they can learn, and how efficiently what they provide is utilized. Jensen aims this motivational guide at leaders who want to attract and keep these savvy employee-investors, and teaches them how to embrace the asset revolution, give their employees better control over their own destinies, create and deliver peer-to-peer value, and become the type of extreme leaders capable of excelling in extreme times. The book is peppered with great quotes, useful checklists, and tips from leaders already succeeding under the new contract. --S. KetchumBook Description
From the best-selling author of Simplicity-how the workplace is being turned inside out and upside down, and what to do about it.Throw out the old playbook; the rules of the workplace are changing-and the push is coming from below. In Work 2.0, best-selling author Bill Jensen delivers a powerful and practical guide for managers and other leaders to make sense of the new covenant that is evolving between individuals and the organizations for which they work.
Based on hundreds of interviews with managers, entrepreneurs, and front-line employees, Work 2.0 captures the pulse and the power of the people who are changing the workplace by raising their expectations of what it will offer to them. Work 2.0 introduces us to Belgian "work simplifiers," the CEO of Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History, Cisco's rule-breaking head of eLearning, the founder of Google, and many other pioneers who are creating workplaces that operate from the employee's point of view. They are meeting the needs of a new workforce, who want to be exceptionally productive, intellectually stimulated, and highly valued. In short, these new workers are demanding a maximum return on their investment in the company. Work 2.0 is guaranteed to change forever the way you think about workers, the workplace, and the very nature of work.
In Work 2.0 Jensen reveals how:
Productivity gets personal
Most likely, your company still thinks about productivity in terms of producing more at less cost. Your employees believe that it's about how efficiently and effectively your company helps them get stuff done. They want more control over their own destiny, and your company is a tool to help them succeed.
Working capital will be spent differently
The workforce knows that your company uses their capital-time, ideas, knowledge, passion, and energy-to make profits. Your key talent is only interested in spending this capital on high-impact projects, learning something new, or doing what they find interesting. This is true in boom times, and really true in bear times.
The work force wants a better return on their investment
If an hour invested in your firm could be invested in a competitor for greater return to the employee, your most valuable people will leave.

Energizing Workbook for Success.......2003-04-18
With a brutally frank focus on personal productivity in a global context, it will cause you to assess "as is" (your job, company or country) so that long-term fulfillment can be attained. Don't worry though- this is not one of those mysterious pop-psychology texts.
Entertaining, dynamic chapters span:
1- the asset revolution begins- work 2.0 new contract, leaders and managers, workforce
2- if you're serious rules- embrace the asset revolution, build my work my way, deliver pee-to-peer value, develop extreme leaders
3- under construction- views of work ahead, privacy matters
Full of ideas, checklists, and examples of Work 2.0, this is one of the best books in the domain. Share it at work if you want to shake the place up.

Seven Stars.......2003-02-24
The world of work is changing-dramatically and quickly. Few people really "get" what is happening, let alone what to do about it. In my work as a Consulting Business Futurist, I face a daily challenge of motivating leaders to open up, shift their perspective, and begin to function differently than they ever have before. I'm almost embarrassed that I didn't write "Work 2.0," but still will have no difficulty at all in recommending it to my clients. I'll also recommend it to corporate executives who are not yet enlightened enough to become clients! Reading this book will shake them up enough to do something.
The message of this book is powerful, direct, and in-your-face. It's compelling; you won't want to put this book down. Employees are becoming more demanding-they want recognition, respect, empowerment, and all the rest, but with a different twist and different intensity than we've ever seen. Have you read the books about disruptive events that change history? Jensen closes-after the endnotes, acknowledgements, subject index, and people index-with a list of 55 disruptive events. Number 55 is 9/11/2001. And more has happened since then. You, dear reader, will be part of the sequel. It's unavoidable.
Corporate leaders: Read this book. Now, before your competitors do. Human resource professionals: "Work 2.0" will unsettle you and stimulate you to advise management in a whole new way. Allow me to quote from the FAQ page at the end of the book. "Dear Loony Author: Are you nuts? Have you read the papers? Employees are in no position to ask for anything but breadcrumbs. As far as I'm concerned, there's no way the My-Way is coming our way. Sincerely, Exec-in-Charge." Jensen heard this message from senior executives, just as we have. Executives excited about being back in control as the economy slowed.
Guess what! The economy's picking up. As we report in our book, "Impending Crisis: Too Many Jobs, Too Few People" (also available from amazon.com), employers are moving into the most severe shortage of skilled labor in history. Employees will be in the driver's seat again. The new contract with employees, described in vivid detail in "Work 2.0," is being written now-by workers, not by employers. Executives who don't get the message of this book risk being written out of the contract.
The choice is yours.
Work, Life, Control: Condensed and Clarified.......2002-10-13
Here's what I've learned both from his two books and his research...
* HIS SKILL is as an aggregator, simplifier, and clarifier.
I laugh at reviews that are obviously searching for the next big thing:
("Nothing new here. So-and-so said that back in...") He openly covers ideas that others cover. But he integrates them all together, and finds the patterns and overlaps between dots that we couldn't otherwise connect.
* HE IS PASSIONATE about respect for the individual.
Work 2.0 and Simplicity are not about *business* success. They are about people issues, and finding more ways for each individual to succeed.
He's holding leaders accountable for employees' time, energy, and
passion that they waste. When he wrote "It is no longer acceptable to say that there's *work* and there's *life* and it's up to employees to balance the two," he was taking a stand for all the thousands of people he's heard from during his research. Again, I was one of those he stood up for.
* HE ASKS tough questions.
Do not buy his books unless you're willing to look in the mirror. While he includes checklists and writes in a very accessible way, he is definitely not about mice-moving-cheese, or fish-throwing, or Five Steps to Eternal Bliss. He's seen our personal foibles and the stupidity in our workplaces, and he tells the truth.
* HE POKES a finger in the eye of those in power, then winks at us.
* HE RESPECTS his readers.
Sure, he gets some things wrong. I don't agree with all his findings or recommendations. But at the end of the day, he respects us to think more deeply and come up with better solutions because he played truth-teller and dots-connector. He sees his role as witness, reporter, clarifier, and provocateur. He figures we're smart enough to figure out the rest.
For me, that's more than good enough.
"In Search of Excellence"... Abridged and Updated.......2002-10-01
Jensen even adopt's Peters' self-conscious, jaunty style of writing and heavy use of bullets and callouts. But if "Work 2.0" is a business book for the new millenium, one must wonder whether the new breed of workers is truly as fearless as Jensen argues. "My work, my way" in an "extreme" workplace is all very cool, but after the pink slip and several months of unemployment, it doesn't mean very much. And (harsh as it may sound) Work 2.0 also isn't very applicable to workers with lower levels of skill or education.
One gets the sense that "Work 2.0" was initially conceived and written at the height of the dotcom boom, then hastily retooled as the economy went south. Nevertheless, the book has some important things to say, especially to managers who might be supervising young knowledge workers for the first time. Plus, it's short and can be read in a couple of sittings.
Guru of Gurus.......2002-08-23
Well, if you buy into this argument then Bill Jensen is the "guru of gurus" because Work 2.0 sits squarely at the intersection of Hammer and Champy, Covey, and Senge. Jensen taps into the pragmatic by providing us all a wake-up call about how the time, attention, ideas, knowledge, passion, energy, and social networks of people will ultimately determine the success or failure of our places of work. He drills down into the righteous by challenging all of us to take on the responsibility of creating a better workplace, to speak the truth to those in power, and to quit the platitudes and go after our own unique destiny. And he brings focused attention to the social by stating that at the end of the day, the new contract is all about helping people to make an impact, to learn and grow, and to take our relationships to new levels.
Whether you are an employee and/or employer, read this book to be both challenged and inspired by the world of work, 2.0.

Careful, this con-mans firm was shut down by the SEC.......2004-06-21
In this strategy, prices for an IPO are artificially "pumped" by a group of brokers who control the shares by creating demand selling to each others' customers in a closed artificial market. Once the price increased, the insiders dump while the unsuspecting retail clients are aggressively encouraged to hold their shares and not sell. After the insiders have dumped their shares, the cold calling stops and because there is no longer support for the price, the shares free-fall as the brokers move onto the next issue.
On March 7, 2002, in an action before the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York, Blair pled guilty and was convicted of three counts of violating the Martin Act-the New York state securities law
-
Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau announced today the stock fraud indictment of securities firm D.H. BLAIR & CO., INC., and fifteen of its officers and employees for enterprise corruption. Included among those indicted are KENTON WOOD, the Chairman of the firm; ALAN STAHLER and KALMAN RENOV, the firm's Vice Chairmen; VITO CAPOTORTO, the head trader of the firm; ALFRED PALAGONIA, the top-producing broker for the firm; and ten other Blair brokers. In addition, three other former D.H. Blair brokers have pleaded guilty to felony charges arising from this investigation.
The sixteen defendants have all been indicted for Enterprise Corruption, Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, and securities fraud in violation of the New York State General Business Law. The Grand Jury alleged additional pattern acts, including perjury and violation of New York's antitrust law. Various defendants were also indicted for Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree. The Enterprise Corruption charge, which is punishable by up to twenty-five years' imprisonment, alleges that managers and stockbrokers at D.H. Blair ran the business as a criminal enterprise.
The 173-count indictment charges that the defendants participated in the "D.H. Blair Criminal Enterprise" from 1989 through 1998, and that the members of the scheme defrauded numerous people - including their own customers, other investors, other brokerage firms, and securities regulators - in order to realize massive illicit profits. Members of the D.H. Blair Criminal Enterprise conspired to commit, and did commit, a variety of crimes to advance their common criminal purpose. They manipulated stock prices -- including securities being offered in initial public offerings ("IPOs") -- for the benefit of the firm, certain favored customers, stockbrokers, and other people associated with D.H. Blair. They engaged in a wide range of illegal and high-pressure sales practices to generate excessive commissions and to facilitate the manipulation of stock prices. In addition, they illegally colluded with other securities firms to manipulate stock prices. They fraudulently increased commissions by selling securities to customers at far more than prevailing market prices. They increased the size of the firm's customer base by trafficking in client information stolen from other firms and by opening accounts for customers whom they knew were not suitable for the kind of high-risk securities marketed by D.H. Blair.
More than 50,000 customers invested with D.H. Blair & Co., Inc. during the period of the existence of the D.H. Blair Criminal Enterprise. Many suffered severe economic losses as a result of the criminal conduct of the enterprise. For example, a 56 year-old disabled man from Colorado lost approximately $150,000 from a disability settlement upon which he relied to pay for medicine and other living expenses; he was given false price predictions and so-called "inside" information which did not pan out. Another investor, a 63 year-old disabled racetrack worker living on a fixed income in Manhattan, lost $35,000 of a $38,000 IRA due to unauthorized purchases in her account and refusals to sell. A tugboat pilot from Brooklyn lost the $45,000 she had saved to buy a house; while she was at sea, unauthorized trades were made in her account and when she complained she was falsely assured that she would be the recipient of windfall future profits. Another Blair customer, a 70 year-old Florida resident who had retired as a trumpet player for the New York Philharmonic, lost approximately $250,000 from his IRA and trust accounts due to false price guarantees and high pressure tactics designed to prevent him from selling.
D.H. Blair made large profits by fraudulently distributing and manipulating the securities of companies that had been brought public by its associated investment banking firm. In 1996, for example, the brokerage firm made gross profits of over $85 million from such over-the-counter securities trading. The indictment charges that among the IPOs that the D.H. Blair Criminal Enterprise fraudulently sold and manipulated were Amerigon, Inc., Telepad Corp., Premier Laser Systems, Inc., Interactive Flight Technologies, Inc., Sepregen Corp., Food Court Entertainment Network, Inc., Titan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Digital Video Systems, Inc., Conversion Technologies International, Inc., and Advanced Aerodynamics and Structures, Inc.
In order to commit these crimes and evade detection, members of the D.H. Blair Criminal Enterprise falsified business records, suppressed customer complaints, hid illegal practices, gave false and evasive testimony, and otherwise misled regulators charged with enforcing the laws and rules governing the securities industry, including the United States Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") and the National Association of Securities Dealers ("NASD").

Not worth the paper it is written on.......2004-01-27
Sure, there are parts of Ozzy's early years I've read about in here which I hadn't found elsewhere, but the author hasn't looked very far. This book is a rehashing of other biographies, quotes from magazine articles, and observations of "The Osbournes" TV show. It smacks of being thrown together as quickly as possible. The author repeats some points ad nauseum, and there are even factual errors in it (the book says Metallica opened for Ozzy in 1983, when in fact this did not happen until 1986).
If you're interested in Ozzy, buy something else.

Maria Zacharczuk-Gruenwald: The True Story of a Young Non-Jewish Girl's Dreams Shattered by the Nazi Regime
Gary Gruenwald Manufacturer: Writers Club Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0595153291 |
Book Description
In this book I hope to make it clear and concise about the historical accuracy of some portions of the Holocaust. With the true information provided from Maria Zacharczuk-Gruenwald’s lifechanging experience during her internment during the Second World War. Until now the information that was available was incorrectly presented in several publications. Also limited information exists about women prisoners at Ebensee and many other concentration camps. There are many reason, but the obvious ones are that all personal items and property were destroyed or taken from these helpless victims of a terrible time in human history. It is my personal hope that this book helps to prevent such hatred and prejudice among all races and religions. This book spells out the emotional hardships and losses we all endured so that future generations don’t repeat the same mistakes again. This book will also remind us of our older generation and the sacrifices they undertook and we must never forget their courage and heroism.
