Excellent How-To.......2002-08-21
Getting Your 15 Minutes of Fame and More! is about just that. Well written, this book is for fame-hunters or those who want to understand how to attain fame. Loaded with useful ideas!
Just as good is Michael Levine's Guerrilla PR: Wired, which also explores how to get noticed. Both books deal with how to have a NAME.
Segal knows what he's talking about--he's done it for hundreds of clients before, making sure people not only talk about them, but keep talking about them. Still, if having fame--or infamy--isn't the whole shebang to you, you might want to give it a pass.

Comprehensive. Easy to Use........2000-07-27
In today's rush-rush world, anything we can do to attract the attention of potential customers is worthwhile. An incredible amount of messages are competing for the attention of the people we want to reach. Whether you're running a business, offering professional services, running for elective office, or promoting a book, it's important to have your name in front of your public.
Quite a few books have been written over the years to help us get our name into the public spotlight. Some have really sound ideas; others are mere sound. With all these books and a plethora of public relations firms, do we need another guidebook? I approached GETTING YOUR 15 MINUTES OF FAME with a skeptical "here we go again" attitude. I was pleasantly surprised.
Ed Segal, a recognized master in the field, has provided us with a powerful volume of ideas and techniques. The book is delightfully easy to read, with 87 short chapters that each focus on a specific methods of spreading your message. I read the book from cover to cover (316 pages), but this work effectively serves as a reference guide. The strong table of contents and index make it easy to find what you're looking for.
The text is organized into seven major areas: How to Get from Here to There (lots of interesting background information about public relations), Getting Your Act Together (insights and how-to tips), Eight Gateways to Fame (the most frequently used channels and how to use them), Tools of the Trade (a wide range of techniques and tactics), Get Their Attention (a treasure of promotional ideas), From Fame to Infamy (how to protect yourself against bad press), and "Thanks for Having Me Back, Oprah" (measuring your success and keeping it all in perspective). The book's resources section is supplemented by the author's web site. Clever idea: Segal can post fresh examples and ideas on his web site to manage a dynamic, ever-changing relationship with his readers. This is a long-term thing, not just read a book and forget it. I liked the way the author cross-referenced the chapters. Whenever other chapter(s) might have a bearing on an approach or idea, there's a reference to the other chapters so the reader can keep it all connected. In spite of all the work I've done to promote myself, my firm, and my work over the past two decades, I learned a lot from this book. I recommend GETTING YOUR 15 MINUTES OF FAME for experienced promoters as well as those readers who have been there, done that.

Customer Reviews:
The ultimate corporate finance jargon, math and show-off buster.......2007-09-17
If you are a lawyer without (good) formal education in finance yet you need finance in your practice or research, there are several courses you can take. You can suffer through the endless toing and froing and joking of Brealey and Myers (Principles of Corporate Finance). Or you can spend some quality time reading well structured, well written Tirole (The Theory of Corporate Finance), but you will have to either skip or crack the math there. Or you can learn it by doing, which will involve some serious hazards for your clients and fee write-offs for your partner if you are in practice, or some silly blunders if you teach and write. Or - you can read Klein and Coffee. The authors' mission statement is to write a simple but not simplistic introduction to the subject and, for the most part, their book does just that. It does not hide behind jargon or math. It does not skip basic (yet difficult) undelying concepts and assumptions, pretending that they are too easy to be even mentioned. It does not look down on the innumerate lawyer. It just gives you an honest low-down on what capital structure of a business is all about and how all that matters for the rules of corporate law. Talking about law, the book (quite predictably) shows a slight American bias but the bias is really only slight - because most of the examples do not rely on positive legal rules but rather on standard commercial situations that arise in corporate financing, you will be able to make good use of the book whether or not you are familiar with American corporate law and whether or not you care about it (or any other particular national law indeed).
An excellent starting point (no matter how long ago you have actually started).
Excellent overview, but only useful in conjunction with casebook, not instead of it.......2006-07-08
This book is a well-written, interesting, sometimes chatty look at the wonderful world of Business Associations. It conformed well to the topics in my BA class; I think the professor was inspired by it in some of his powerpoints. It conformed poorly, however, to our casebook, Klein's own. This was surprising to me. Therefore, this book is most useful as a big picture giver, not a resource to prepare for exams or to get cliffs notes on cases. Nonetheless, I recommend it. You'll feel like you understand BA after you read it. Watch out though, because, for the reasons stated above, this feeling will probably not correlate to exam success unless you are diligent with the casebook.
Could be a lot better.......2003-08-29
This book is geared towards people in the legal profession. Most of the info contained in the first 3 chapters a business person would not need to know; or if they did they, would probably have a corporate attorney that could tell them. The book does a very poor job at explaining some of the financial examples. I have an MBA, and I still got lost at times! This book should be considered 2 books in one volume (first 3 chapters for the legal profession, last 2 chapters for the business world).

Customer Reviews:
Its a good book.......2006-09-21
I enjoy this book. It does have some mistakes. The recipes are simple and short. I always read through the recipes before I start cooking. I use my common sense as well to tell me if it is going right. After all cooking is a series of adjustments in my view, turn heat up or down, add more of this, not to much of that. Thats what cooking is to me.I enjoy all the simple lunch recipes. If you know how to cook this book is good. Maybe not for the beginner.
Had no problems using the recipes and this book is thrifty.......2005-05-07
I've cooked several recipes from the German Cookery cookbook. Yes, some of the writing is not as clear as it should be, but an experienced cook should be able to use the recipes without too many problems.
I've made the Tomato Sauce (Tomatensauce #284) and was wondering about the water to thin the sauce. I finally figured it out but the recipe was not clear.
The Onion Butter (Zweibelbutter #296) is excellent over mashed potatoes.
The Stuffed Peppers (Gefulter Paprika) are excellent and one of the tastiest recipes for Stuffed Peppers I've ever made.
And the Young Vegetables (Junges Gemuse #215) are excellent.
No complaints and the recipes are tasty.
I can find better recipes on the internet.......2003-09-11
this book is lacking in so many ways. my husband is half german (he grew up in germany) and this book does NOT have half of the things that he loves (which was why i bought it). i STRONGLY do not recommend this book!
Not as bad as others make it out to be........2003-01-16
I am less suspect of this book now that I live in Germany. The recipes are very good and quite authentic; however you MUST read them all the way through BEFORE beginning the cooking process! The translation is faulty in regards to the wording and order in which the cooking of items should be completed.
Substitutions are easily found in America for listed items, but you must have a previous knowledge of what the item actually IS in Germany, and a fairly good common sense knowledge of the kitchen to follow the "out of order" instructions.
If you want truly authentic recipies though, it is a good book.
Ich verstehe nicht........2000-07-26
This cookbook is not fully translated. There are ingredients and measurements that are nearly impossible for Americans to find or understand. Some recipes I tried did not even turn out right or if they did, it was a shame because they were terrible. This cookbook is good for reference and maybe comparisons with other recipes, but that is all.

Book Description
"[A] highly entertaining showbiz memoir . . . The shows were fantastic." - The Washington Post "We laughed and we cried at Cy Feuer's wonderfully warm, brash, and colorful memoir of his life in the New York theater and happily recommend it to anyone who has ever been to a Broadway musical. . ." - Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan. This is the rags to riches story of Cy Feuer, who, after becoming the executive officer of the Air Corps film division in World War II, teamed up with the late Ernie Martin to become a legendary Broadway musical producer. Their first hit was Where's Charley? in 1948 featuring Ray Bolger. Next up was the smash Guys and Dolls, which enabled them to hire Cole Porter for their next show, Can-Can. Feuer signed 17-year-old Julie Andrews for her Broadway debut in The Boyfriend, another hit. He hit the bulls-eye one more time with How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, his third collaboration with composer Frank Loesser. The first five musicals Feuer and Martin produced were hits, and at one point, all were running simultaneously on Broadway. He would later go to battle with Bob Fosse as producer of the acclaimed 1973 film version ofCabaret.
Customer Reviews:
Standing on the Corner, Trading Stories.......2005-04-25
The first show I saw in NYC, as an impressionable young teenager, was Feuer & Martin's production of "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying". Those rosy memories, combined with the positive reviews of the book, made reading it irresistable.
It is a light, enjoyable read. The reviewer who wrote "is like sitting at the feet of a beloved uncle as he recounts fabulous tales" was absolutely right -- that's just how I felt. [And it must have been the style Feuer was trying for, with his repeated use of "kinda" "sorta" "hadda"]. But while that is fun, it was also frustrating: the stories were told because they were humorous, not because they provided any insight. Don't we read biographies to learn more about what makes a specific individual "tick", and by transferance, more about what makes all of us "tick"? There was no learning here, little insight. Just stories.
Feuer insisted frequently that he was not an artist, merely a ditchdigger, albeit a good one. But he didn't do enough digging here. Read it for fun, but don't expect to know the man.
Enjoyable, honest memoir.......2003-05-16
What a kick in the pants Cy Feuer must be in person. You can almost hear his tongue smacking in his cheek as he spills little tidbits about show biz icons while regaling you with stories of his and his peers' latest exploits.
What I really enjoyed about this book, other than the obvious, is that the man wasn't afraid to: 1.) Tell on himself, showing us some of his real blunders, and 2.) Tell on others honestly, showing some understanding of where they were coming from, rather than just stepping on their memory.
This is a fun, easy ride through the heyday of Broadway and a touch of musical Hollywood.
How to Succeed in Show Biz.......2003-03-06
Reading Cy Feuer's memoir is like sitting at the feet of a beloved uncle as he recounts fabulous tales of a fabulous time on Broadway; the time when the Broadway Musical was a capital-letters phrase. And, make no mistake, Cy Feuer and partner Ernest Martin were THE musical producers of that era! Guys & Dolls, How to Succeed...; Can-Can, The Boyfriend! To anyone "of a certain age", these were the musicals of their lives. Sure, there are some factual errors (he confuses Victor Young with Vincent Youmans, for example), but I blame that on co-author Ken Gross. I don't know that it's his fault, mind, I just want to blame him and just revel in Cy Feuer! If you love musicals, Broadway, Hollywood, gossip, and/or great story-telling, you will, too!
