I love trying different cookbooks, but usually it's hit and miss-- a couple of good recipes, and the rest are mediocre at best.

This cookbook is full of truly delicious recipes-- some for the crockpot, some for the oven, and some for the bread machine. My favorites are the crockpot recipes which are definitely 10 steps ahead of the typical generic "meat and potatoes" recipes. It has more variety than other crockpot cookbooks (much better than "Fix It and Forget It") with international flavors instead of 30 different versions of pot roast. It doesn't have as many recipes as "Fix It and Forget It" but each one is truly unique.

I use this cookbook on a regular basis to try new and less-hassled meals. It doesn't take away the prep time, but it does allow you to work things at your own pace before the crazy dinner hours.

I'm very pleased with the Tax Survival book. I was a little dissappointed at first with the feel of it because when I got it I thought it was a magazine. However, very handy and a great value. I'm using the pockets to store my receipts.

I am only 26 and new at the tax game. This book was a quick read; I skipped over the long bulky reference books that I can't believe anyone really reads. Each subject was covered.

Take a look at the Deferred savings account article. In only 4 pages it describes up to 9 choices. I also liked the short descriptions of capital gains, areas to worry about, etc.

The quality of the paper and the graphics is good too. Terrific value. I plan to use their $9.95 Internet service to file my Fed and Ohio taxes, efile, and get my refund FAST. Internet is the way to go!

Anyone who can lighten up taxes has my vote!!

The only book I have found that is short, covers all the subjects, has a bright crisp feel to it (nice paper; colorful; cartoons and comments to keep you awake). Hope to read other books by these folks; if you can make Tax interesting, other stuff should be easy.

I like their concept of less is more. Wading through reference materials in most of the other tax books is like going through a jungle. They provide directions to deeper information through IKONS that refer you to the IRS pub you need.

Has all the websites for IRS, States, etc. And you can file your fed/state taxes, plus e-file for only $9.95.

Also, I really don't like the name "Dummies" or "Idiots". Survival sounds a lot more supportive and less like a joke name--and taxes are no joke!

Less than $10; so how can you go wrong. Enough from me. Good reading!

Perfect for an average person like me. Covers all subjects; if you want more info, they refer you to the right IRS publication. Concise, fun, cautious (out west we like that). Colorful; allows you to file your federal & state (don't have that in Wyoming, but most folks do) forms, e-file, only for $9.95. Not a frat joke name like For Dummies or Idiots Guide. Sorry guys, a girl talking! Great book for everyone.

Makes Sense To Average Person--Nortel exposed.......2005-11-07

I was hesitant to read the book after reading the "Incoherent" review left by a reviewer. I read the other book by this author and actually won a few good bets, one of the recent bets I won is shown as an image on the other book page. Seems the reviewer who wrote "Incoherent" must have a beef with the author.

I can see that there are areas of the book that can be hard to understand if someone is looking for a quick simple explanation of investing techniques or tips to get rich now. However in exposing the Nortel possible stock manipulation, the authors' explanation seems plausible.

After doing some homework, his recommendation would have returned prices increasing over 8% annually, plus the rates are still higher than bank returns, 4.6% annually. Better than losing money on FORD or other stocks.

I had past dealings with the author. I found him to be quite conceited, incorrigible, and a liar. I always wondered how he could drive around in an $85,000 BMW, and own and race 10-12 thoroughbred race horses a year up until a few years ago.

I practice in the mining and securities field and find alot of the information detailed to be factual, and know that alot of the information put forward occurs on a daily basis.

The scoundrel reveals dastardly deeds that I wouldn't condone, he belongs in jail.

The book is worth a read.

Surprised, bought 10 copies to hand out as presents.......2004-01-26

I have been an active investor in junior mineral exploration companies for over 30 years. I actually bought this book in the spring of 2003 and was so taken aback by it, that I bought an extra 10 copies to hand out as christmas presents to friends who invest/speculate.

Many of the disclosures in this book helped me understand better some of the losses I had experienced in the market over the years in dealing with scum promoters. The book also helped me in the recent bull market in penny mining stocks. I was also a big fan of the book, "Rampaging Bulls", published in 1992, another book revealing many Vancouver Stock Exchange scams.

The author pulls no punches in telling it like it is. No doubt this has caused him enemies especially with the enforcement authorities as he reveals the rampant daily fraud that goes undetected and that has never been documented by them. He also reveals the dirty deeds and tricks of newsletter writers, research analysts, and how newspaper columnists obtain their padded information.

I would recommend this book to everyone. For less than $20.00 canadian,less than what a trade costs, you can be that much more informed. I will be purchasing more copies for work mates and friends who haven't already received a copy as a christmas present.

I also visited the website and emailed the author, who replied pleasantly without looking to rip me off.

Incoherent.......2004-01-19

The author may have had some interesting things to say. Unfortunately it was so poorly written, and appears unedited, that you can't understand most of what's presented. There's even a puctuation error in the title (Manipulator <'>s). Obviously this was was self published.

His terms aren't defined and while I'm sure they have meaning to him, it leaves the reader wondering what he is talking about. For example, he talks of companies getting 50K from an investor, and "washing" it in and out many times to give the appearance of 450K. Since there is no more detail you wonder exactly how this is done and why there is a benefit to the manipulator. Detailing the accounting would be helpful.

It was so difficult to read that I felt I would have to go through and edit it just so I could understand what was meant. To understand what he was trying to say, many lines had to be reread several times because of the poor punctuation, run on and incomplete sentences.

Basically, you should stay away from low quality penny stocks. He mentions how looking at the bid/ask structure can be a tip off. Many of the things he says you should look out for are things the average person will never be able to find out. Even though he says large cap stocks can be manipulated, the examples are low quality issues that have higher prices with little volume and tiny float. He contends that the only reason to buy stocks is for their dividends, and that is the only way to be sure it is not a manipulated stock. I disagree, there are many reasons why a company doesn't pay dividends but that's another issue. There can still be financial shenanigans in dividend paying stock though it might have to be more creative.

Much of the focus is on smaller mineral exploration companies since that is his background. The book also is an advertisement for his services to check out stocks for you. If his reports are written anything like the book, you won't get anything out of them. I checked out his web site, a single page with a few charts of penny stocks and an invitation to email him for a quote for his services. Buyer beware.

Although Calvin Coolidge is widely judged to have been a weak and even an incompetent president, this study concludes that he was a leader disabled by a crippling emotional breakdown. After an impressive early career, Coolidge assumed the presidency upon the death of Warren Harding. His promising political career suffered a major blow, however, with the death of his favorite child, 16-year-old Calvin Jr., in July 1924. Overwhelmed with grief, Coolidge showed distinct signs of clinical depression. Losing interest in politics, he served out his term as a broken man. This is the first account of Coolidge's life to compare his behavior before and after this tragedy, and the first to consider the importance of Coolidge's mental health in his presidential legacy. Gilbert carefully documents the dramatic change in Coolidge's leadership style, as well as the changes in his personal behavior. In his early career, Coolidge worked hard, was progressive, and politically astute. When he became Vice President in 1921, he impressed the Washington establishment by being strong and activist. After Harding's death, Coolidge took control of his party, dazzled the press, distanced himself from the Harding scandals, and showed ability in domestic and foreign policy. His son's death would destroy all of this. Gilbert documents Coolidge's subsequent dysfunctional behavior, including sadistic tendencies, rudeness and cruelty to family and aides, and odd interactions with the White House staff.

Calvin Coolidge is barely remembered today, as a minor US President. But for those who are interested in his life, Gilbert gives a retrospective of Coolidge's last years. While it may seem incredible nowadays, given the contemporary intensity of press coverage about the White House, back then things were far more private. So much so that we see how Coolidge's deterioration was largely successfully concealed from the general public.

The book is more than just about Coolidge. It affords us a glimpse into a far slower tempo of American society at its highest levels. With what seems to us like a casual approach to decision making. But remember too that at that time, the US was not the world's pre-eminent superpower. In the book's narrative, what is also striking is how relatively little foreign issues intrude.

Gilbert also supplies in the text copious references to mostly original sources.

I don't have time to write a well-thought out review, but since there isn't any, I will provide one comment. Among other things, this book could be a primer for anyone who is married, is contemplating getting married or having doubts about continuing in a marriage. This is a valuable book.
