Please save your time and money and don't purchase this book. All it is a catalogue for other books that are sold by this company with a bunch of useless filler.

If You Need A Start For A Small Business-Here It Is.......2000-05-18

This is more of a small business start-up tool, a must have for small business beginners. It is packed full of checklists and doesn't bore you with lots of mumble. It gets down to the nitty-gritty and then some. The only thing missing was informative examples which I do value in some cases but, I highly recommend for anyone trying to venture out into being your own boss.

great introduction and reference.......2006-12-18

I was brand new to an upper level administration job. Immediately, there were personnel issues I never had to deal with before, leaving me lost. After reading this book, however, I feel much more comfortable with employment law. This book is an excellent introduction and one I still use as a reference. It may be too basic for employment lawyers and seasoned HR directors, but for everyone else I think it is perfect.

Vast knowledge in very digestable form.......2000-08-16

As frightening as the volume of the book might see, it is written very well and it is very contemporary with the topics discussed in.
The book is divided in several sections with general theory and implications disussed first and with some real cases presented afterwards. Each case is usually backed with some questions to think about and to extract the essence of it. The complete book feels like being a student in the class with authors performing as teachers (as they also do sometimes).
Concepts of strategy are extremely tricky. It can hardly been negotiated if there is a strategy or if you just got to have the feeling or if there simply are people who earn 1 million US$+ a year that turn into gold everything they touch and you can't run a serious business without them. This book will help you understand that strategy exists, will teach you how to define it and set it through and how to predict the future and react on it. But as real life is, many things can happen. You get the driver's licence after you learn the basics of driving. But no one can tell after you get the licence if you will get involved into the crash and when.
Many people expect from such books that they will get a broad pavement covered with roses to walk through their careers on simply by paying some 70 US$. How naive they sound sometimes. The pen alone doesn't write a book, it is just an instrument to success, behind which stands an enormous human effort. This wonderful book is only an instrument to avoid some crashes of company in your career. If it can therefore win you a job or a mere 100 US$ raise, it has paid back heavily, don't you think?

This is an important and recent strategy book. I recommend it for MBA students and managers.

Savoring old desserts?.......2006-03-08

I was very excited to see that they were publishing new books in the Savoring series, since I own most all the others. From previous experience with these books I found Williams Sonama had done a wonderful job, with vibrant and gorgeous pictures and wonderful discriptions of food. But not only that, they had within each book information about the various cultures of cooking and food from each area. With the Savoring Desserts book, it was a bit strange. No specific type of cooking, just all rolled into one. Sadly I found many of the same recipes I already had in the previous books, including some of the same pictures of the dishes. Although there were some new ones, if you have the full collection like I do, you really don't need this book. With that said, if you don't have the Savouring collection, then this is a wonderful cookbook. It has great information, more photos than any other book I know of and a great bounty of different types of meat recipes. A good addition to any collection of cookbooks.

I read this book and I believe it is a great analysis on the life of John Lennon. I appreciate the fact that the first reviewer has their own opinion on the book but it is really not a waste of time. I highly recommend this book!!!!!

Impressive.......1999-04-30

Having read the two previous reviews, I got a chance to look at the book in the Cleveland Public Library. It is a great source, and a nice addition to the other Lennon books out on the market. It is well researched and gives a clear (although somewhat academic) portrait of an artist worthy of an indepth study. I would highly reccomend to other Lennonologists.

This book is unlike any Lennon book I've read before. It is intuitive and emotionally vivid in its description of Lennon. Beyond the myth of Lennon's "Beatle John" image, The Mourning of John Lennon manages to give you a powerful sense of what his life was about - up close and personal. Fantastic.

This book is a psychoanalysis of John Lennon's life and songs. It is a waste of time and one of the worst books I have ever read about John Lennon. Give me a break!

This is a true story, the memoirs of Edelgard Knoob, with character names changed. Edelgard named Elfi grew up in Germany during the rise and fall of the Nazi Regime and World War II. She was raised by her grandparents, because of fear of her father, yet found great security with her grandfather, building a close and warm relationship with him.

Elfi's early years were filled with tranquil childhood memories, but as the years passed, she was exposed to the realities of the regime. Knowledge of Hitler's tyranny increased as Elfi grew to a young girl in a non political family.

The Nazi Party forced the "Heil Hitler" salute, enrollment into the "Hitler Youth" (Bond of German Girls), and the involuntary sterilization of beloved Aunt Gusti. The war years were the most dangerous times for Elfi because of the bombings. Her grandparents lived near the center of Kassel, Germany. She encountered several close calls and miraculous rescues. From early childhood Elfi created a private spiritual world for herself where she could feel secure, like an oasis in a troubled world. With a strong faith, her grandparents had instilled in her, and courage she could face the difficult situations.

She was finally rescued from the immediate danger by being evacuated into the country with her mother and siblings. She was placed with a farmer family and had to travel by train to school in a larger town. Even there she did not escape danger. One day, without warning, the train station was bombed, where all the waiting traveling students were killed. It was only by Gods providence that Elfi was not with them on that particular day. In another village where they had been giving a little more living space Elfi's mother was able to have most of her children together again. They remained there until the American tanks rolled into the village and occupied it. Two tanks parked in the farmyard in front of Elfi's house. Elfi knew the war would soon be over and they could return to the city and rebuild their lives anew. The story portrays the history of Nazi Germany, from 1933 to 1945, through the eyes of a child. This history is shown through the experiences of a Christian famil! y in a traumatic and heartwarming manner and relates the family, women and children's life styles during the Third Reich.

What was it like to be an ordinary child living in Germany in the beginnings of WWII? It's something that we, today, can not fathom.

Elfi's World.......2003-09-23

In "Elfi's World", Edelgard Knoob transports us to the wondrous time and place of her childhood in Germany. We see through little Elfi's eyes the beauty of an era when times were still simple. Her family comes alive throughout the book as we learn their individual characters. Grandmother and Grandfather played a very important role in Elfi's upbringing and their love and warmth is genuinely felt through the writer. And Aunt Gusti quickly became a favorite of mine. Her cheerfullness and dedication to the family was endearing. I was very sorry to read of her misfortune at the arms of the Third Reich. Elfie's mischiefness keeps us smiling throughout the story but through her loving upbringing, her faith and optimism lets her shine through all obstacles. The memories that are brought to life in this revealing autobiography will immortalize Elfi and her family forever. I would recommend this book as great reading for young and old.
