Truly inspirational and can stand up to repeated listening!.......2007-02-24

This is truly an excellent audio which has been worth many times its price to me. I have listened to it literally hundreds if not thousands of times over the last twenty years and it has helped me in my life to be successful in a variety of positions, through career transitions, etc.

In this tape, Zig Ziglar uses stories, reasearch nuggets and powerful metaphors to drive home his points in an extremely powerful way. He is very present when he speaks and the tape is not only informative, it is funny and entertaining.

This is a perfect tape to listen to over and over again while you are commuting. This is how I used it for many years. As a personal growth coach who does a large amount of public speaking, workshops and one-on-one coaching -- I feel I am in a good position to judge the merit of what is out there.

Zig is a Christian and this might not go over well with some audiences. However, he doesn't push this agenda, but he does at different points use some illustrations that come from the bible. For example, in one section he quotes the bible about money saying, "he who seeks silver, will never be satisfied with silver" and goes on to explain how you can never have enough money, UNLESS the money has you. I think that's a very wise statement and it's not money itself that is bad, but how you use it. The point he seems to be making is that are you a good steward of your money, which I think it a relevant point that requires guts to make in the current business environment. In fact, I would suggest it's an essential point.

Cognitively, I probably knew most of what was in this audio. However, I know it differently now at a deeper level because of using it. This tape is done in such a way that the ideas sink in deeply and become a part of you. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Also, in addition to working in psychology, I was also a marketing person for Xerox when they were Fortune 25. I went through their International Center for Management Development and won their Team Xerox Spirt Award. The point of me sharing this is that I know what it takes to train sales and marketing people and I recognize a good and practical resource when I come across it. I don't think you can go wrong with this audio, especially at the price they are offering it at.

Great for First Time Ziggers - Not good if you have other Zig.......2006-11-06

I have purchased other Zig tapes and really enjoy them. I thought this was going to be something new. It's not. It is the same stories all over again. I also do not recommend the CD if you are going to be using it as a car audio. CDs can't just stop, be ejected so you can listen to something else, and put back in like a tape can.

Pizza lovers will certainly enjoy browsing through this book, even if not all of the recipes appeal to their tastebuds. But with such a varied selection of pizza recipes, there is definitely something for everyone. Choices range from classics to highly unique pizzas, such as breakfast pizza.

My only criticism would be that, since the recipes were chosen by an American poll, that calling this book a collection of the world's best pizzas is slightly inaccurate. Nevertheless, this book is well worth its price and should offer something delicious to everyone in the world.

The incident took place during the final construction phase of the Bay Area Rapid Transit System (BART), designed to be America's first attempt at space-age mass transportation. An amazing man and a remarkable career.......2004-09-07

This was clearly written before the current trend of "tell-all" memoirs and biographies that try to drag every skeleton out of people's closets. Overall, I think this improves the book. I'm not sure that I need (or want) to know every little flaw in Eisenhower's life. Instead, this book explores his background and tries to shed some light on those aspects of his personality that influenced his actions and his career path. We also get a better insight into how his various postings throughout his army career prepared him not only for Supreme Command during WWII, but ultimately for the presidency. While I found the author to be a little guilty of "hero worship," and somewhat too quick to dismiss the charges of Ike's critics, the author does a good job of using Eisenhower's own words (taken from both official and personal correspondence) to make his arguments. This book is certainly a strong argument that Eisenhower should be ranked among the "Greats" of American history.

This book is a "Must Read," one of the very best novels I have read in the last decade. Every page held phrases and paragraphs I wanted to read and re-read, so rich were the images in this coming-of-age novel. Perfect for a book club.

Revere Beach Elegy.......2002-05-15

This book is a collection of Merullo's essays about his boyhood in his Italian-American hometown, Revere-five miles from Boston, Massachusetts. Merullo was born into a typical Italian family where fathers are the head of the entire family. He grew up in a neighborhood with lots of cousins, uncles and aunts. The value of this book is not just Merrullo's boyhood tales, most important it depicts the struggle of immigrant families in this country, trying very hard to have a better life for themselves and their children.

As a first generation Italian-American, Merullo's father worked full-time and went to law school in the evenings for several years. He failed the BAR examination eight times but eventually received his law degree at the age of 54. Unfortunately he died in his early 60s. As a second generation Italian-American, Merullo was raised with parental expectations, but made his own way. He obtained primary education at Phillips Exeter Academy and then Boston University, then the Peace Corps and finally found his niche as a writer.

I like this book because this book reminds me the year I lived in Greater Boston area.

One of our best book club meetings of 1997........1998-04-07

American Elegy was selected by my book club in 1997, and our discussion of it resulted in one of our best meetings of the year. Any person interested in the facts, legends, and beliefs that create a family's identity will appreciate this book. As someone who has been dubbed her family's "historian", I feel a kinship with Jeffrey Simpson and other writers who seek to reconcile their family's past with the realities of the present.

Captures the essence of what we heard from our grandparents.......1997-06-12

I have always been fascinated with the stories my parents and grandparents told me. Apparently Jeffrey Simpson was as well, and has taken those stories and gathered them into a wonderful account of his family and how they arrived at the point of his arrival. He weaves humor and pathos together in a remarkable way. At the end of the book I felt that I had sat with him while he was growing up and hearing the stories. It helped that I grew up across the river from Parnassus, and knew very well the scenes that he was describing. This is the book that I've always wanted to write, but didn't know how to go about it

Diana Dell has a talent for transporting the mind back in time and place - to the times that us baby boomers still remember with fondness. Her look backwards is also her way of dealing with the loss of her brother - without reminding us of that fact all the time. She has loving respect for her roots - her family and her neighborhood. She has captured those times and people and given us a snap shot of her heart as she grew up. The reader will find that they will get involved in all these people's lives that she introduces in the book. It is a book for both men and women to read. It makes a nice weekend reading journey as I have done this weekend.

Recollections of growing up in a small ethnic community.......2001-09-05

I enjoyed this book. The title is perfect for a work that snapshots growing up in a Polish community. My grandparents were Russian Jews (both sets) who came to America about 1912. Both my parents were born here. So much of the anecdotal tales of local characters, mom and pop shops, numbers running, close communities, mirrored so much of what I remember as a child. Overlaying the story and presented initially is the loss of a loved one in Viet Nam. This book relates how immigrant families sacrificed for their children encouraging their education that resulted in 2nd generation Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants etc. Its a wonderful book to read and struck many chords for me.

Compelling Story of Post World War Two Coming-of-Age.......1999-11-10

What makes this book so appealing to a "Baby-Boomer," like myself, is that it brings back memories of what it was like growing up in a small town in the fifties. The wiry humor and interesting characters make the book hard to stop reading. Fact is---I read it twice, and would certainly recommend it for its entertaining aspects, as well as its literary merit. Dell's other book, "A Saigon Party," is a must read for those desiring a different view-point of the Vietnam war.
