      3 out of 5 stars The Doctor.......2007-03-08

I read this book because I loved the movie, "The Doctor". The book has little resemblance to the movie. It is a factual account of the treatment for cancer bya doctor. There is little romance, no conflict with the wife and the patient played by Elizabeth Perkins only has passing mention.
Having said that the book is very interesting and I learned a lot about medicine.
Do not compare it to the movie.

I don't even know where to start. I absolutely love this cookbook. My mother used it when I was growing up. Once I moved out, the first thing on my agenda was to get my own copy. I'm on my second copy (dog destroyed the first one) and it never disappoints. I have given all of my friends copies of this cookbook as well. Everyone loves it. None of my other cookbooks even compare to this one.

5 out of 5 stars Addictive - had to buy the remaining books in the series.......2007-06-17

Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. This is a series that pulls you in and engages you with the characters and plot. Very well thought out. I hope Spencer continues with this character, I'm impatient for more of Ukiah's adventures.

      5 out of 5 stars Worth rereading.......2007-06-12

I've just finished the series of four Ukiah Oregon novels - twice! READ THEM IN ORDER!!! Detective stories aren't usually a reread for me, especially right away, but I've reread these before they are due back at the library, and I think I'll buy my own copies sometime in the near future. I've loved her other works, and now I think I'll make her an autobuy. Wen Spencer is a good author who doesn't find one successful universe and stick there, rewriting the same type of story over and over (see Tinker), but I'll definitely read more about Ukiah!

I don't "do" literary analysis, but I didn't find the writing style bad, as some have. It must be a matter of taste. I also won't review the plot, as has already been done.

The mystery of discovering who he is drew me in despite the gruesomeness of some of the scenes. The relationships were good. I like characters who I can respect and who are, at the same time, not perfect. I like the slow character maturation.

Warning, the third novel in the series has some "off-camera" violence against very young children.

This is definitely worth a try, and I think you'll be sucked in as I have been by this excellent and inventive writer.

      2 out of 5 stars I was wrong.......2007-01-22

When I first saw this book, I thought, "Wow, this looks really cheezy, but I'll buy it anyway as a quick read."

Then I got into the premise. "Wow!", I thought, "I was wrong, "This could be really cool." The idea of a tracker who can do what he can do because of a feral upbringing by wolves seemed to be working out well, and some of the plot twists were great.

But as I got into it, character development for all but the main guy seemed to stop dead. Further in, I found the actions of the characters less and less believable. It started with the tough FBI agent who considers Ukiah, the lead, a suspect one day, and is madly in love with him the next. The casual acceptance of Ukiah's real story by all concerned in the book at their first hearing seems even harder to accept.

Having said that, the plot is good, although there are some leaps that seem a bit sudden and poorly contrived. The concept is good, and it would have been a better book if it had been covered in more space so the characterizations and plot twists didn't seem so forced or wodden.

      4 out of 5 stars A good read.......2006-11-30

This is one of the better escapist fiction novels I've read in awhile. The characters have good development. The plot is complicated but moves well. The X-file elements are well done and different enough to provide continued interest. I've read all of the books in the series and would say that they were well worth the time to read. I doubt I'd ever reread these books but I would pick up a new novel with the same characters.

I started this series because I discovered the author through his Tinker series. I prefer the Tinker series because the universe there isn't quite as dark as that portrayed in this series.

      5 out of 5 stars I loved this book!.......2006-03-29

One of the most inventive, refreshing books I have read in a long time. I highly recommend the whole series!

      Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Too many mistakes.......2007-03-15

I have to agree with the other reviewer that mentioned too many mistakes. I picked up this book, and it fell open to "Secret Dog Friendly", with the information that "only two city parks allow dogs to run off the leash." Wrong! There are many parks in Portland with off-leash areas, and there were at least 4 at the time this book was published (2003). On the same page, under the heading "Secret Driving Rules", the author writes, "Don't you wonder every time you visit a new place whether you can turn right on a red light?" What?? This has been the law in all 50 states since 1980!! Where has she been for the last 20+ years? The fact that I found these 2 errors/bizarre statements on the FIRST PAGE I looked at do not bode well for the accuracy of this book. And then I flipped to the last category, "Secret Yurts", where the author writes, "You'll find them in state parks in the Portland area as far south as Coos Bay..." Coos Bay is 220 miles from Portland- a pretty loose definition of "the Portland area". It's as if she wanted to include this category because it was cute or funny or offbeat, regardless of whether or not it fit in this book.

Her definition of "secret" is mystifying, at best. Let's take a look at "Secret Waterfalls"- the first one listed is Multnomah Falls. Oh, you mean the MOST POPULAR TOURIST DESTINATION in Oregon?? That secret?? Or under "Secret Libraries"- Multnomah County's Central Library. The #1 ranked library by circulation IN THE COUNTRY? Do you think maybe this library is not really much of a secret?

Finally, again just flipping around in the book, I came across "Secret Personality", and find this statement: "So beneath the ponytails, beards, Levis and tie-dye,..." Well, I didn't even want to finish the sentence! Talk about stereotyping- sheesh. Did this author even VISIT Portland? I would love to see a native or long-time Portlander write this book- I think it would be really interesting.

3 out of 5 stars Nothing too secret about this guidebook........2004-12-31

Having greatly enjoyed Secret New York and Secret San Francisco from the same series, I was looking forward to reading Secret Portland. But this one doesn't stack up to the other two. I confess that I am a Portland native (now living in San Francisco), so may be more picky than a visitor reading the book, but it does not have the same insider flair that the New York and San Francisco books have. The other two were written by people who live in the cities they wrote about. It is obvious that this author does not live in Portland and has not spent much time there. The information is standard for any guidebook of the city.

In addition to only covering the "sites, sounds, & tastes" that you can find in any hotel room visitors' guide, this book is full of several small, but irritating, errors. For example, while the book includes a truly secret Portland gem, Martinotti's Italian cafe and deli, it misspelled the name as Marinotti's. Another, more confusing example: under "Secret Luxury," the author praises the RiverPlace Hotel as "small, elegant, personal . . . more like a posh home than a hotel" and, under "Secret Al Fresco," describes the hotel's restaurant Lucere as "European" and "chi chi." But under "Secret Rooms with a View," the author describes the same hotel as "a fairly standard, but pricy, modern hotel" and misidentifies the restaurant. Even more confusingly, several listings misidentify the neighborhood, for example, listing many downtown locations in southwest Portland as being in the "Buckman" neighborhood -- a neighborhood across the river in southEAST Portland.

The nail in the coffin was the author's tip on how to pronounce the name of Portland's river, the Willamette: "Want to sound like a local? Make sure to pronounce it "will-uh-met," with the accent on the "uh." Wrong-o! As any Portlander will tell you, it's Will-A-mitt, damn it!

                  Book Description

Trading Spreads and Seasonals is a powerful, profit enhancing trading course based on Joe Ross' years of personal trading experience and remarkable trading success.

These days, it seems most traders are focused on outright futures or options trading strategies. You hardly ever hear of anyone who trades spreads or seasonal spreads, or outright seasonal futures - especially at the same time! That's because very few futures traders truly understand seasonality. This is why far too many never earn all they can from trading. Worse than that, they end up losing money.

Fortunately, Trading Spreads and Seasonals changes all that. It stacks the odds of winning in your favor. How? By giving you a complete explanantion of how to crack the markets using a novel approach that combines explosive profit potential of futures with seasonally measured risk. Plus you learn to protect yourself from the vagaries of market price action that serve to turn winning trades into losers.

You'll find out just what to look for before you enter a trade, such as how to spot trends that will affect you positively where it counts, your trading account. You will not only learn how to hedge your risk, but how to use it to explode your profits in a steady pattern of equity growth! You'll see which markets to avoid and which trades to avoid. You'll know when to get in and, MORE IMPORTANTLY, when to get out. Trading Spreads and Seasonals does it simply, without all the technical mumo-jumbo and mathmatical formulas of other approches.

                  1 out of 5 stars NOTHING NEW.......2003-10-27

Unfortunately nothing new at all: Bollinger Bands, RSI and typical chart patterns. Unprofessional lay out, a lot of unused space and many peripatetic explanations. Maybe some ideas for absolute beginners. I will short this book and rather spend the money on a new Harry Potter novel.

                  3 out of 5 stars Where's the Meat?.......2003-08-20

I think Joe did an excellent job of describing what seasonal/seasonal spreads are, but gave me little in the way of new ideas for trading them, or new research into spreads that really work. Most traders would be much better off with a subscription to Moore Research if they already know they would like to trade futures in this manner.

5 out of 5 stars Closely Guarded Secret.......2002-12-25

                  "Secrets!"
If you have gotten this far by choice or accident, you have stumbled onto the most profitable way to make a living with the least amount of margin in the field of speculation.

Ross' refers to seasonal spreads as a "closely guarded secret." Many books about trading assume that you are starting out with many thousands of dollars earned somewhere else.

This little known facet of the commodities market is ideal for people who have a steady income and want to earn a second income trading a small amount of capital.

The key here is supplemental income. You have to find a way to keep your day-to-day needs for income separate from your program of wealth building. You have to find a way to keep your spending from increasing just because you are making a bundle trading. Seasonal Spreads are how many new traders build up a large trading account in a short time, starting with a hardly any capital in the commodities market.

In high school you should have become familiar with the "Ten Multiples." Let me refresh your memory. Mony grows geometrically. How much do you have when you double one thousand dollars ten times?

                  1. 2,000.00
                  2. 4,000.00
                  3. 8,000.00 etc.

If you can save $20.00 a week and you will have that first thousand dollars in less than a year.

Now the thing is this. People often talk about a Million dollars as being a lot of Mony. But really, do the math. Let's see what the flow-of-sums returns.

How much income per week will you have if you had one million dollars invested (not in spreads)?

You will find that you can easily exceed a Millionaire's income with a small amount of trading capital, perpetually in seasonal spreads.

Ok what is the minimum trail to your first successful trade. At a minimum

                  1. "Reminiscences of a stock Operator," "Reminiscences," gets into the details of Speculation and details you must thoroughly understand if you are considering making a living Speculating in securities.

                  2. "Ross's Spreads and Seasonals," for in-depth technical analysis and trading tactics.

With these tools, You should soon be able to enter and exit your first seasonal spread at a profit.

Joe introduces filters and how to use technical indicators. You should update to Lane's %D Stochastics. This is a trading manual not a book about trading.

Here is the thing that makes Ross's book particularly outstanding. When we trade spreads, the only data we can use is the closing price. The exchanges do not report the intraday ranges of spreads.

Ross's book is the best one for explaining how to use close only charts for trading. Its very simple, cuts out tons of useless noise many indicators thrive on.

Ross gives a good introduction to this high profit, low risk Speculation arena.

Ross explains how to use an indicator to filter spread trades, You may find that Stochastics works better. Ross principles are the same.

Assuming you did your homework with Reminiscences, Ross's book and some up to date seasonal Spread charts is all you need to make your first winning trade.

Ross offers an easy-to-read guide teaching traders how to use historically consistent trading patterns to capitalize on the opportunities offered by seasonal spread trading.

Joe covers how to find trades, filter them using technical indicators, how to place orders and manage your spread trade after entry.

When you make some profits, read the rest of the available spread books. Buy books when you are winning!

The tax burden imposed upon the farmer has become a major source of discontent in the Chinese countryside and a worrisome source of political and social instability. Thomas P. Bernstein and Xiabo LÜ examine the heavy, informal taxation, revealing how peasants defend their interests by adopting peaceful and violent strategies of collective resistance. Bernstein and LÜ explain why the central government, often siding with the peasants, has been unable to resolve the tax burden issue by instituting a sound, reliable financial system.

The financial burden imposed upon the Chinese farmer by local taxes has become a major source of discontent in the Chinese countryside and a worrisome source of political and social instability for the Chinese government. Bernstein and L¸ examine the forms and sources of heavy, informal taxation, and shed light on how peasants defend their interests by adopting strategies of collective resistance (both peaceful and violent). Bernstein and L¸ also explain why the central government, while often siding with the peasants, has not been able to solve the burden problem by instituting a sound, reliable financial system in the countryside. While the regime has, to some extent, sought to empower farmers to defend their interests - by informing them about tax rules, expanding the legal system, and instituting village elections, for example, these attempts have not yet generated enough power from 'below' to counter powerful, local official agencies.

Lincoln measured the promise--and cost--of American freedom in lucid and extraordinarily moving prose. Here in this two volume set ("Speeches and Writings 1859-1865" and "Speeches and Writings 1832-1858"), are all the significant works, including the complete Lincoln-Douglas debates, dozens of speeches, hundreds of personal and political letters, communications to generals in the field, presidential messages and proclamations, poems, and private reflections on democracy, slavery, and the meaning of the Civil War's immense suffering.

5 out of 5 stars Lincoln Source Documents in a Gorgeous Printing.......2007-08-03

The Library of America's collection of original Lincoln source documents in two volumes is a wonderful addition to the library of any person interested in this portion of American history. The two volumes represent the best scholarship available today in terms of organizing and duplicating Lincoln's own words as they are found in personal letters, speech transcriptions, notes, memos, and other forms of written communication. This is a collection that is a fascinating look at the inner thoughts of Lincoln as he progresses from a congressional candidate in the 1850's, then as a candidate for President in 1860, and then as he prosecutes the war of the states until the time of his assassination.

The Library of America represents a rare and welcome to the world of print publishing. Funded from a continuous trust that is structured to keep every single volume perpetually in print, the Library prints only on the finest paper, using only the best inks, and implementing the best binding technology available. These books are true library quality, with ultra-high quality paper from Germany and bindings from the Netherlands, and truly represent the finest book quality typically seen in today's book world. The perpetual trust of the Library nevertheless keeps the price of these volumes at a reasonable level, with most volumes available between $24 and $40 dollars. Once you handle one, you'll undoubtedly see what a real value this series represents.

Lincoln's writings and recorded speeches are incredibly interesting to read. These works provide remarkable insight into this most unusual of people, and posterity is pleased that so much of these items were saved and eventually collated for later review. Can we make ourselves belief that this is largely a self-educated man who writes English prose at a level rarely seen even in the most educated of individuals? Following the logic posed in many of these letters, coupled with the piecing insights into human nature that Lincoln seemed to exude, can give us an experience that extends our thinking and challenges our views. Because Lincoln is canonized in history, we really don't understand the real man all that well. These personal writings of Lincoln help de-mystify the true person behind the persona, and make us see the man, not just the legend.

5 out of 5 stars Great volume covering Lincoln's Presidency & the Civil War.......2005-05-11

This volume provides Lincoln's speeches, writings and selected letters from 1859 through 1865. This period is the year leading up to his election in 1860 through his assassination in 1865. You will get to read amazing letters from the commander-in-chief trying to get his generals to fight and win the war, letters to all kinds of people covering topics public and personal, proclamations suspending habeas corpus and emancipation, his addresses to congress (our State-of-the Union Addresses used to be delivered by letter to Congress), and some of the greatest treasures in American history: the Gettysburg Address and Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address. It is stunning that in all this writing, so much of it powerful and worthwhile, that these two brief speeches so obviously deserve to be engraved in stone for all ages to read and take into their souls.

It is awfully moving to read the material related to the conduct of the Civil War. He was very strong in his determination to destroy the Rebellion, yet he has very touching notes about his sick child and is very human in his communications with intimates.

This volume also has a chronology of Lincoln's life and great notes on the texts. Note particularly the Associated Press copy of the Gettysburg Address that was contemporary with its delivery. The version most of us know is a finished copy prepared for publication. The differences are subtle and not all that important, just interesting to note for style and rhetorical power.

I strongly urge you to have these two volumes on your American History bookshelf. Simply, they are important and you will learn a great deal reading through them.

5 out of 5 stars Lincoln in His Own Words.......2003-03-13

I purchased this collection of speeches and letters knowing little about America's most beloved president other than what I had learned in my high school history classes. My first impression was "Boy, where have all the good presidents gone?" Aside from the famous speeches we're all familiar with, Lincoln was a prolific man of letters and an amazing presenter of ideas ahead of their time. Our sixteenth president wasn't perfect, but neither was our nation. During perhaps the most crucial period in U.S. history, thank God there was Abraham Lincoln. I grew up as a Democrat, but if Lincoln were running for the presidency today, he would be the first Republican to get my vote. This Library of America edition of Lincoln's speeches and writings is a beautifully bound volume that I will cherish for years to come.

5 out of 5 stars Leadership and Eloquence.......2000-09-14

This is the second volume of the Library of America Project devoted to the works of Abraham Lincoln. It covers the period after the Lincoln-Douglas Debates and includes many of the records of the Lincoln Presidency and the Civil War. The standard Lincoln materials are included, of course, such as the Gettysburg Address, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Inauguaral Addresses. But there is immeasurably more. We see Lincoln writing to his Generals, Cabinet members, and other national leaders in his attempt to hold the Union together. We see a lincolns agonizing over military discipline and frequently pardoning deserting soldiers. We see Lincoln dealing with Indian issues in his day; and we see him supporting the use of black troops in the War effort. This volume is highly useful in uderstanding the Civil War. Equally important it teaches the nature of leadership and fortitude. Finally, Lincoln is one of our Nation's great prose writers and the book deserves reading for that reason alone. The Library of America is to be commended for this volume and for its ongoing series.

In the bestselling tradition of Truman, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer David Herbert Donald offers a new classic in American history and biography -- a masterly account of how one man's extraordinary political acumen steered the Union to victory in the Civil War, and of how his soaring rhetoric gave meaning to that agonizing struggle for nationhood and equality.

Culminating his half-century of study of Lincoln and his times, Donald brilliantly traces Lincoln's rise from humble origins to the pinnacle of the presidency. He reveals the development of the future President's character and shows how Lincoln's enormous capacity for growth enabled one of the least experienced men ever elected to high office to become a giant in the annals of American politics. And he depicts a man who was basically passive by nature, yet ambitious enough to take enormous risks and overcome repeated defeats.

Much more than a political biography, Lincoln seats us behind the desk of a President who, was both a master of ambiguity and expediency and a great moral leader, as he makes the decisions that preserved the Union and shaped modern America.

Donald has written a defining biography of Lincoln. For once, we get to know the man.

But Donald's approach sometimes seeks to make Lincoln banal simply to demythologize him. Telling the story straight would have been enough.

As an example of how he does this and presupposes much more than he could possibly know, Donald states that Abraham and Mary Lincoln only had four children after many years of marriage so they must have used birth control (forgive me for not having the page number handy).

This is just silly. Grinding axes, or trying to shock with sexual speculation is bad history.

The book is very good, and well worth the read. But bring a critical mind so you can sort some of the author's overstretch.

David Donald has for years produced many brilliant histories. This volume is not one of them. It may have been written with "Best Seller" tag in mind, it may be meant for the largest popular readership. If so it succeeds. It is not written for the student of Lincoln and the civil War who is looking for dresh insight into the man and his times.

5 out of 5 stars Stellar biography ..........2007-06-12

This is a superb history written by a brilliant historian. If you want to learn about Lincoln's life in depth, this is the place to start. You not only get an exemplary biography, but you also get the notes, references, and citations that Donald has assembled from a lifetime of research, study, and teaching.

Most of us got little more about Lincoln in our school history classes than a thumbnail sketch. This magnificent work corrects that. I came away completely awestruck at Lincoln's life history. Donald's biography succeeds in bringing home to the reader the magnitude of Lincoln's rise from desperate poverty and frontier circumstances to become one of America's greatest Presidents.

Reward yourself and read this book: It's an unbelievable story well told.

                                                4 out of 5 stars well-written and well-researched.......2007-05-31

Donald has written a very satisfying biography of Abraham Lincoln. As he concedes in his preface, it is not a history of the Civil War. In fact, Donald devotes the first 250 pages of the book to Lincoln's career and life prior to becoming president - some of it in very excruciating and dry detail. The latter 350 pages were a much quicker and enjoyable read, but although set in the context of secession and war, Donald focuses largely on the Washington political scene.

"Lincoln" reminds us of the intense disharmony and discord in both the government and the country during the war, and Lincoln's deftness in keeping the diverse coalitions together and balancing both the altruistic and selfish agendas of the myriad of factions. Even our greatest president was forced to embrace the petty politics so evident today, both to run the government as well as to stay elected. The book is full of imagery of Lincoln coolly, calmly and patiently handling the complaining from all over the country, infighting among his political family, and rival Congressmen trying to topple and undermine his administration. Ironically, much of the spiteful conflict Lincoln dealt with was the result of the rivalry for his esteem and affections, whether it was Seward and Chase, Stanton and Welles, or Mary and Herndon. As Donald said, "it was a problem that Lincoln, like other men of enormous personal magnetism, had dealt with throughout his life." And while conflict physically took its toll, Lincoln also appeared to draw energy from it.

Also amazing is Lincoln's capacity to forgive and dismiss grudges, as evidenced by his appointment of Stanton to Secretary of War after a severe personal slight years earlier, appointment of Chase to Supreme Court justice despite his disloyal and scheming to steal the 1864 nomination, and continued friendship with Sumner despite frequent opposition to Lincoln's policy. And of course, there is his boundless patience with his own wife's selfishness, immaturity, and impetuousness which appeared to be a constant source of torment and embarrassment for him.

While Donald perpetuated the Lincoln myth of greatness, he avoided deification of his subject. He did not hesitate to identify Lincoln's shortcomings, such as the neglecting of Robert Lincoln during the childhood years, his meddling in his generals' military matters, his impractical ideas for colonization, and the disorganized management of his cabinet and administration.

Although the preface made it clear that Donald "focuses on Lincoln himself - on what he knew, when he knew it, and why he made his decisions", the reader may be shocked at the book's abrupt ending at Lincoln's death. Readers may be left desperately wanting more information on what happened next, at least like an epilogue type chapter similar to how Doris Kearns Goodwin ended "Team of Rivals".

Regardless, Donald's biography is well-written and well-researched and well worth a read for those interested in Lincoln.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific biography of Abraham Lincoln.......2007-05-06

This is a rock solid biography of Abraham Lincoln. The biography is richened by the availability since 1947 of the Abraham Lincoln papers, not hitherto available since they were sealed in 1890. As much as possible the author uses primary sources and liberally uses Lincoln's own words. At the outset, Donald makes a few observations about Lincoln. For instance, he notes that (page 14) ". . .this biography highlights a basic trait of character evident throughout Lincoln's life: the essential passivity of his nature." Lincoln himself once said that (page 15) "I claim not to have controlled events, but confess plainly that events have controlled me." That is, Lincoln responded to changes in circumstances. Donald also notes that (Page 15) "From Lincoln's fatalism derived some of his most lovable traits: his compassion, his tolerance, his willingness to overlook mistakes."

The book begins, traditionally enough, with a look at his family's history, his birth, his movement from Kentucky to eventually settle in Illinois. Key experiences were the death of his mother, his early exposure to books and consequent development of an appetite to read. In 1831, he began life on his own. Over the next decade, he tried many occupations--from carpenter to riverboat man to clerk to postmaster to lawyer and to politician. His life in New Salem was pleasant enough, but it was when he moved to Springfield that his trajectory began really to rise. His law practice and political involvement grounded him in the larger community.

His political career was certainly modest enough for someone who became president (hence, some reviewers noting the paucity of experience, making him one of the least credentialed presidents in American history). His marriage to Mary Todd helped with the often melancholic nature of his life. His political career took off with the Lincoln-Douglas debates in his unsuccessful effort to derail Stephen Douglas' re-election campaign to the United States Senate. Lincoln made a speaking tour and began to gain notice. When the 1860 Republican convention deadlocked, he became nominated as president as the fallback candidate. Once elected, as the book speaks to well, he selected a uniquely headstrong and eminent cabinet, including in it a number of failed presidential hopefuls from the 1860 convention.

The volume also speaks in detail about the human side of his presiding over the Civil War. If you want details about campaigns and battles, this is not the book for you. However, his portrayal of Lincoln on a very human level is nicely done. One can experience Lincoln's back and forthing on slavery and emancipation; one can feel his anguish as he sees that his generals early in the war "don't get it," and so on.

The book concludes with the assassination and the telling phrase by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton as Lincoln breathed his last (page 599): "Now he belongs to the ages."

This is an excellent volume, jam packed with details, and depicting nicely Abraham Lincoln, the human being. Well worth adding to one's Abraham Lincoln collection.

Not your average "Recovery Story," The Moron Chronicles follows a year in the life of a "reality challenged" alcoholic determined to live life on his own terms and let the chips fall where they may.

Twisted and harshly comedic (just like real life), this is the story of what happens when ignorance and arrogance meet and give birth.

You've seen these guys on the street before and wondered where they came from. Well, this book should answer all your questions. And if you happen to recognize a bit of yourself in there be afraid. Be very afraid.
