Many great ideas. Using them in my current mgmt situation turned the department around. I work for the cheapest company in the world that treats their people like they don't deserve to work there. Financially they won't back my efforts at all, but hey, it's my career so I don't mind spending a little. The book is inspiring and well written. They have 2 other books related to this, but I didn't buy them b/c glancing through them they appear to not offer what this book does. Good hardcare information.

oh where to begin..........2004-04-28

I suppose the best way to start this review is to tell you that I go to college with Cathy Germay and for a period had to deal with her on a daily basis The book, like the author, is self-indulgent and childish, not to mention that aspects of the story seem to be blatant rip-offs of the "Girl, Interrupted" movie. The author --and story character-- likes to broadcast her "schizophrenia" and "hospitalization" in that sort of "look at me! I'm different and artsy!" kind of way even though there are no facts to back up either claim . If you end up buying this book, read it as amateur fiction....not a memoir.

A wonderful encyclopedia for the collector..........2000-04-02

This is a great book. It contains hundreds, perhaps thousands of images of this great art pottery. The photos cover everything from the jardinieres to garden ornaments, from kitchenware to novelty planters, and vases of all sorts. The Sanfords include a number of old catalog sheets, which give us some perspective on various lines, and a pricing guide in the back (which one needs to bear in mind will be affected by the impact online auctions have had on all reference works price lists.)

All in all this book is well worth the investment, especially if you are a fan of this wonderful pottery.

The last several decades have witnessed major restructurings—economic, political, and cultural—in the international arena. The depth and scope of these changes have prompted anthropologists to rethink many of their most basic assumptions, to problematize issues that have long gone unexamined, and to grapple with new and unique problems. Doing so has left the discipline profoundly unsettled. Existing standards of scholarship and research methodologies have come under attack, key conceptual categories have been called into question, and truths once considered secure have been subjected to severe scrutiny and even ridicule.

Seizing upon the opportunity afforded by the contemporary conjuncture of disciplinary crisis and redefinition, this book raises questions about two interrelated aspects of historical process and academic production. The volume contributes to ongoing debates about the degree to which the developments of recent decades represent the advent of a new historical era, a rupture with the past that requires new conceptualizations and logics in order to be understood. In confronting this question, the contributors to this volume have assembled a range of materials that place the present period of reconstruction in the context of a broader history and geography of other, related restructurings.

Locating Capitalism in Time and Space also raises questions about the degree to which the scholarship of recent decades represents a qualitative break with that of the past. At issue here is whether one understands the history of academic production as a linear process of intellectual growth punctuated by major breakthroughs in understanding, or as a political process structured by the same kinds of inequalities and struggles that characterize the social worlds that are the object of anthropological analysis.

The electric power industry has played an important role in the dramatic economic development in Korea, and electricity has become a critical factor sustaining the well-being of the Korean people. This study uses input-output analysis to investigate the role of the four electric power sectors (hydroelectric, fossil-fuels, nuclear and non-utility) in the Korean national economy for the period 1985-1998, focusing on three topics: the impact of electricity supply investment on individual sectors and the inter-industry linkage effect; the electricity supply shortage effect; and the impact of the rise in electricity rates on prices of other products. The overall results reveal that the non-utility electric sector is superior in terms of national economy-wide effects to the other three sectors throughout the period. Finally, potential uses of the results are illustrated from the perspective of policy instruments and some policy implications are discussed.

In a world of internet fan sites, this book serves as a good companion for the adolescent teen fan, older gay male fan, and various other fans who seemingly have not much more to their lives than mailing lists and discussions about River's real hair color.

It's not that this book is not good. It's well done, and I commend Barker for his endeavors in portraying another side to the complex being that was River. However, this book does not go much further than the standard magazine fan fare that so many of us who followed River, or any other celebrity, are familar with.

This is a good fan's companion. There are no revelations. There is nothing earth shattering. It's a humble attempt to eulogize River the way he should have been eulogized. It's a shame though that this book will most likely only appeal to those types of fans I mentioned above. It's a shame it's a marginal attempt. River deserved more than a cult of fans. He deserved to be known as the intelligent actor that he was. I am not so sure that this book paints that picture. Even though John Barker seemed to really strive to do that. Unfortunately, in many parts, it falls short.

This book wonderfully documents the incredibly tough life of this amazing boy and shows why he changed so many lives (mine included) with his grace and strength during his short life. Having the opportunity to meet Jarrett Mynear before his death changed my life forever. Reading this book will surely have the same effect on you. Marvin Bartlett does a wonderful job capturing the true spirit of this extremely strong boy and his family. A MUST read.

Even as an author, I have no words from being humbled other than that every one of us should take Jarrett as our shining example. A Sad but Uplifting Story, Well-told.......2002-12-03

It can't be easy for an adult to write the true story of a youngster. Even if that youngster has achieved some manner of celebrity status, it must pose special problems for an older generation to write accurately and insightfully about its focus. And if that celebrity status has resulted from that youngster's caring humanity and unselfish acts in the midst of an ongoing life-threatening disease, writing the story must prove all the more difficult. Yet author Marvin Bartlett, anchor for the Bluegrass Region's Fox affiliate, has successfully overcome those difficulties in telling the story of Jarrett Mynear, an extraordinary young Kentuckian who, when faced with a disease that would eventually steal him from all those who loved him, chose to better the emotional and mental well-being of others who suffered like himself. Bartlett knows the story is so strong and moving that editorial commentary from himself is minimalized, and he maintains his discipline even in the secondary matters. For example, when campground owners hosting a group of children, all of whom are seriously ill, deny them the fun of shooting at each other in a squirt gun battle because these owners abhor war and violence, Bartlett merely reports the fact, confident that his readers will shake their heads. This is the story of a remarkable boy, and reading it, I suspect, will bring some relief to those distressed, and joy to all. Despite the sadness.

Marvin Bartlett invites the reader to the world of an incredible child. If only we would have an ounce of Jarrett's heart the world would be a better place! While it is sad that Jarrett has gone to a better place he left us a legacy of giving and this book is his record. It gives the reader a glimpse into the mind of a child that battled daily with his demons but acted like an Angel!

I want to thank Mr. Bartlett for writing a book that allows the world a glimpse into Jarrett Mynear's life. What an inspirational story! It captured my heart. I could not put this book down once I started to read it. Although it is a story about a young boy with cancer, it is more....so much more than that.

Jarrett is wise beyond his years. His kindness, compassion and perseverance should be a lesson for all. Whatever the future holds for Jarrett, he has already managed to touch more people with his courage and his Joy Cart than most of us will ever accomplish.

This book is an absolute treasure. I would highly recommend it. I would especially recommend it for anyone that has forgotten what life is really about. Jarrett's life is all about caring, love, sharing and paying it forward. What a wonderful legacy he has created.

I truly expect to see this book hit the best seller list.
