    Book Description

Learn how to integrate the two important cost reduction systems that have revolutionized manufacturing. Target costing is used during the development and design stage of new products. It focuses on profit realization by planning quality products in the design and review stage. Kaizen costing helps you decrease production costs for existing products. Combining the target and kaizen methods leads to a complete cost reduction system that can be applied from product inception to completion.

      Book Description

Before the 1990s, China's telecommunications sector was a lackluster monopoly featured by poor-quality service and inadequate capacity. Today the country boasts a dynamic telecommunications industry with the world's largest communications network and user-base with over 460 million telephone subscribers. China's accession to the WTO in 2001 has opened this huge developing telecommunications market to foreign participation and investment.

The authors examine the singularity of the Chinese experience in building up its extensive telecommunications network in merely a decade, by reviewing China's national industrial policies and institutional reforms within the industry. The reader will find in this volume a unique and in-depth analysis of the interplay between political and economic forces amidst the industry's structural overhaul and regulatory reforms. The accounts of industrial features and market conditions are enriched with up-to-date data, which are extremely useful for appreciating the development and prospects for this fast-growing market, set against the backdrop of China's accession to the WTO.

Scholars of China or Asian studies and researchers of information-communications industry and Asian/China studies will find this work of great interest, as will governmental policymakers, both in China and beyond. For foreign business practitioners eyeing this market, this volume provides a helpful guide to understand China's various interests and public welfare considerations that motivate changes in policies towards foreign investment and participation.

        Book Description

Before entering the seemingly lucrative Chinese market, investors should be aware of the darkside of the current business environment. The risk of rampant corruption, economic, social and political problems, and threat to personal safety go along with the potential benefits of a thriving economy, rapid growth and swelling consumer demand. Dixon and Newman describe the Chinese business environment and its major players--the People's Liberation Army, the 'princelings'--and 'guanxi' (connections). In addition, they describe the plight of foreign business people who have recently found themselves in ugly personal situations because of China's lack of internationally accepted business practices and ethics, lack of institutionalized rule of law, and lack of an impartial law enforcement system. They conclude that any prospective business rewards must be discounted by the personal and personnel risks foreign businesses face when dealing with China.

1 out of 5 stars Too Many Mistakes!.......2003-02-08

This could be a good book if it weren't for all of the errors. The typos, inconsistent formulas, and algebraic mistakes make you wonder if the author was awake when he wrote this book.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent review of extoic options.......1998-07-11

I have read P.G. Zhang's extoic options with great interest. It provides the readers with overview of the extoic options commonly seen in the markets. However, most readers will be turned off by the complicated calculation of the pricing of the extoic options. But it's still give you an overview of the extoic options. It's a good buy

2 out of 5 stars Lots of promise but flawed........1998-03-27

This could have been a very valuable addition to my growing list of books on derivative pricing. As many other readers have mentioned, there are so many typos as to make it nearly worthless to the reader. The author, publisher or editor owes every purchaser of this book a complete errata sheet (could be as large as the book itself). I did find the section on the distribution of the correlation coefficient very interesting.

5 out of 5 stars Too much errors !!!.......1998-01-21

Hello, I bought the book "Exotic Options of Zhang" few days ago. I'm a french reader working in a big french Broker firm. I note some mistakes in the two first parts of your book. Here is the list. Page 8: In the table MQTIF -> MATIF Marche A Terme International de France Page 11: In the footnote CAC 40 (or 240) is now for "Cotation Assistee en Continue" instead of "Compagnie des Agents de Change" Page 28: "Fisher Black... now a partner at Goldman Sachs..." In fact, I think he is resting in peace now ! Page 35: In the footnote A wrong "r" replaces the greek letter sigma, and confusion in the stochastic process between the Brownian and the process dz(t). Page 51: In Appendix (A2.4) dz(t) instead of z(t) Page 60: Equation (3.5) No "S" term in the pricing formula of the future option. Page 66: I think that the model of Heston for stochastic volatility is more accurate to deal with. Page 75: "An option's theta is always positive because there is always more possibility..." I think it's only true for call option, indeed the case of deep in the money put is different. Page 100 & 101 : Figure 4.6 & 4.7 Confusion in the trees between payoffs and values of option. Text says .." $5.61 because it is larger than the corresponding value $4.78.." and the tree shows in fact a value of 5.16 at node G. In Fig 4.6, the node in the first step with the value $5.61 is inferior to the value of the european case $6.04 (Fig 4.5) ? In fig 4.7 , no final price for the option, the final node is blank. Page 102 : "In Example 4.3 and 4.4, the European and American Put option prices are..." instead of "Example 4.4 and 4.5" Page 114 : At the top of the page "...asset price in (2.4) or (4.3)." instead of "...asset price in (2.4) or (5.3)." Page 118 & 119 : In example 5.4 & 5.5 1) "+ N(0.1372) " instead of "x N(0.1372)". 2) exp(-0.07) = 0.9324 and not 0.9236 ?! 3) Finally the price of the call C is not $20.117. 3 bis) Missing sign equal "=" (replaced by a minus "-" ?!) 4) Same problem for the put. 5) In Example 5.5 reference to example 5.3 and 5.2 instead of 5.4 ! Page 120 : Equation (5.13) "t* - s" instead of "t* s" in the denominator Page 121 : Example 5.6 I think the same kind of problem in the numerical application of the formula. Page 123 : "The Asian call option prices become higher with more frequent obsrevations as shown in Table 5.1" obsrevations -> observations higher -> lower ... I think ?!! Page 124 : Example 5.7 You note "yield on the undelying asset is zero" but you write next "g = 0.03" You write twice T sa_mu,n-j ? Impossible to find your result for the correlation 0.883 ???? except if in (5.18) the second term (r-g-.5*s*s) is not squared ! Page 125 : Example 5.9 WRONG ONE MORE TIMES How do you find 0.4583 for te ??? Page 126 : Example 5.10 The value of Dcg1 and Dcg2 are swapped in the price of the call. Idem for the put , where the litteral equation and its application are false (Minus sign, exponential disappears,...) ! Page 127 : In Equation 5.22 Miss a starting parenthese "(" Page 135 : In Equation 6.2, the second SUM sign is in fact a MULTIPLICATION sign, isnt'it? Book Description

This book provides the first systematic classification and treatment to essentially all exotic options currently trading at the Over-the-Counter (OTC) market. It contains exact closed-form pricing formulae and approximated closed-form pricing formulae for all popular exotic options. It includes arguments for and pricing formulae of exotic options with more flexibility than most popular exotic options such as flexible Asian options with flexible weights to various observations in the average, Asian barrier options, correlation digital options, etc. Most of the analyses in this book are within the Black-Scholes environment so that comparisons of each type of exotic options with the Black-Scholes model can be made readily. Emphases have been paid to illustrate the ideas of products clearly and show how to use the pricing expressions conveniently. The book contains many pricing formulae and analyses which do not exist in the literature.

The book is suitable for traders, analysts, risk managers, marketers, sales people, professionals in the derivatives industry, and financial professionals in general who have an interest in the concurrent status of the exotic derivatives market. It is also of great interest to professors and graduate students who want to catch up with the ever growing innovation process in the derivatives industry. Scientists, engineers, computer programers, and other professionals may also find the book an efficient way to grasp some financial ideas and connect financial products with mathematical tools.

            1. Excellent book to recommend to people who want to learn more on exotic options, but... 2. Two many mistakes in numerical examples, formulas, and even theorems !!, actually damaging the quality of the book. Since this is the second edition, the reader was prepared to get a cleaner version. I suggest the author creates a Web site for all these errors. 3. All these errors, typos, etc... make this book out of reach for those who want to use the formulas but have no idea on how to correct them... 4. Many very usefull ideas for structured derivatives desks

4 out of 5 stars an insteresting book but.... too many mistakes!!.......1999-02-16

I have just gradueted in Economic and Bussiness two months ago. The topic of my degree thesis was the barriers options, so I bought this Peter Zhang book. I think that it is a quite good book: easy to read, clear for its explanations but I found some mistakes in mathematical formulas. Here is the list: formula 10.25 page 212; formula 10.26b; formula 10.37 page 222; the example in page 232-233 is wrong because when the up-and-out call is valued the square symbol over the parameter v is missing; in page 236 the rebate growth rate is eta instead of gamma; formula 10.49b page 236; in formula 11.2 page 259 the correct parameter is gamma isnstead of f; in formula 11.27 page 277 UCDP is missing; formula 11.30 page 280; formula 11.34 page 281; formula 11.51 page 294. For more details about errata I found please e-mail elenaz@tin.it.

5 out of 5 stars This is a good starter book for the uninitiated.......1999-09-27

It's the perfect book for people like me, a single mom in a secure job with some apprehension about having enough for retirement, with no idea about investing. It would also be a good book for a budding capitalist just starting his or her first job or young marrieds who wanted to get on track before they invested all their hard-earned on Williams-Sonoma's color-of-the-month Cuisinart. The book has neatly packaged chapters which you can skip around in. Though if you don't skip, the chapters keep building on previous ones so you have a sense in a nicely structured way of what this whole money mystery encompasses, in level of importance. I was mostly interested in investing, though there's lots of other information that makes it possible to have something to invest after you've cut expenses and made a will and made sure your insurance is right (well, OK, I didn't read that chapter yet).

I liked the specific examples of, say, discount brokers and internet sites for further research. At the end I didn't feel like I had to be a broker to play with the big kids. So I can read the bidness news now and cross-reference anything I don't understand with Meany's book and impress my kids with my astute planning for their inheritance. The writing has a calming effect, partly because of the humor and partly because of the simplicity with which this arcane knowledge is presented. What I like about all Meany's books is that they teach you to take a deep breath, and then get on with the business at hand.

5 out of 5 stars This stuff really works!!.......1999-02-05

Just reviewed it today!! Having followed Meany's money advice for the past twenty two years, he's helped me to acquire a 6-figure portfolio, send a kid to college, acquire five different properties (sold three), and manage gifts from my parents' estate. I'm his wife and it works for me!!!

4 out of 5 stars motivating the cash potato to painlessly save and invest.......1999-02-02

Meany's quick read shows the cash potato how to find money--even when you think there's none left over--and snag it and make it grow! Down-to-earth, funny, practical, and SIMPLE ("quick and painless," he keeps hammering), the book is well laid-out and well indexed. Even *you* have time to read this book!

                                        Book Description

One evening in 1952, a young woman walked down to the Mekong River carrying her baby boy in a homemade basket. She lit a candle and stood it in the basket, then set her baby adrift on the stream. Miraculously, the child was rescued by a fisherman and taken to a Catholic mission on the island of Cu Lao Gieng. The little boy was named Ty, meaning "billion,", because his chances of surviving were a billion to one. This is the story of that one-in-a-billion chance.
