In addition to this book being a "labor of love", Steve Carp leaves no stone unturned regarding the history of the team. Chock full of facts and statistics, as well as personal observation, it is easy to read and comprehend even if one is not a fan of the team, or of the sport.

Being a local from Las Vegas I have always been a fan of the Rebels Basketball Team. "Runnin" is a great vivid look into the 'entire'history of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. Steve does not throw any punches as he looks into the drama and glory that continually surronds this team located in the heart of 'Sin' City. A good book for any basketball aficionado or weekend couch viewer.

My 2 cents..........2004-03-09

Here are the things I like about this book:

1. It uses actual financial statements from well known companies
2. An "ok" description of how to do some research on sites (mainly cnbc.com)
3. Links to a few sites I hadn't heard of

Besides those three things I think in this book Mr. Byron's writing is clunky and I found the text hard to decipher at times, I think there would be a lot of improvement if parts of the financial statements were marked so you'd get in idea of what he was mentioning (instead he'd say now look for something that is close to 300 million... yeah like that helps.) Also if there were screenshots (pictures) of the websites where he is discussing how to do something it would be easier to see.

All in all, I don't plan on using this book for anything and I don't think it's worth anything to investors who've used cnbc.com before and have seen financial statements.

As an avid trader, I am always looking for insight into the market. One of the few writers that offers intelligent objective analysis of the market is Christopher Byron. He is willing to take on a difficult task of scolding companies that have had a high flying record, and that are termed by most as the "Must Have" stocks at the moment. His balanced analysis shows the flaws in the most favored of stocks.

Byron's greatest strength is in his use of exemplary writing. The difficult task of shifting through an annual report to find nuggets of truth and potential problems is a difficult task. Byron is a mine detector when he evaluates a stock for you. And he uses terminology that allows the novice reader to understand the most complicated of financial terms and equations.

I believe that the mark of a great writer is shown by the ability of a highly intelligent person to convey difficult concepts in a manner that the dumbest of people can understand. Byron is one of the few great personal finance writers of our time because even I, a great fool in the stock market, can understand what Byron is trying to explain to novice traders.

Worth the price of admission.......2001-02-03

This book's list of financial web sites alone was worth the price of admission. Some usual suspects--yahoo, and thestreet.com--and many more that professional investors consult. The newbie investor may be a bit overwhelmed, but if you've graduated to knowing the difference between a market and limit order, you're probably ready and eager to use the Internet to help keep an eye on your money. There's a good appendix of Byron's favorite web sites at the back of the book, so no need to dog-ear the pages when you find Internet gold.

I've been actively trading for years and I have read all of the Fool books, Suze Orman, Rich Dad, et. al and this ranks right up there as one of the best. If you've never heard of Chris, I think he does a streaming show on MSNBC at Noon each day that you can check out. His style is his irreverant and inimitable.

You'll find yourself laughing and really learning how to uncover and decipher information from some of the more informative web sites like Edgar-Online and others.

A very unique and insightful look.......2005-07-12

This is an excellent book. I've been reading up on Nixon as of late, and I thoroughly enjoyed this updated edition. Basically, the book is composed of quotes from various figures organized into sections relating to a topic or question. It does away with boring biographical details and just goes into the real meat of any issue--using the personal observations of those who were there.

It's a great read--you get plenty of insight into Nixon's personality (even what he ate for lunch!), how he operated the White House, how he ran his campaigns, his policy ideas, and ultimately the events that led up to Watergate and his resignation.

All the big boys are interviewed--Colson, Dean, Halderman, Erlichman, etc. But still, nobody can figure out who ordered the break in. They're all still blaming eachother.

The theories on who Deep Throat was are funny in the context of his recent admission. Haig almost nails it. Everyone else is way off.

Anyway a great read--I'm now going through the rest of the Oral History books these authors have written. I hope they do more!

Miss Agnes Lee, as the daughter of the famous general, was in a unique position to record the inner workings of one of America's oldest families. She records a touchingly ordinary life of a typical 19th-century young woman; home life, going to school, her hopes and dreams. Truly interesting to historians should be her position as "teacher" for her grandfather's slaves, who were being prepared for their freedom. General Lee wanted them to be taught to read and write so they could make a living, and Miss Agnes and her beloved sister Annie (who died tragically of typhoid during the war) taught the classes. Agnes, like her sisters, never married although she had a hearbreaking love over with Orton Williams, whom the war turned into a hard-drinking man. She tearfully refused his proposal and never healed from her grief when he was hanged by Union troops. This is an invaluable resource for a young girl's life of the period. Highly recommend

A heartwarming look at a lovely girl.......2003-10-16

The Journal of Agnes Lee was written over a 5-year period while Agnes was between 12 and 17, and before the Civil War that would make her father such a legend. Don't expect breathtaking adventure here, but rather sit back and enjoy a view of this young girl coming of age in the 1850's. My strongest reaction to the book was, "How I would have loved to know Agnes!" She really does come alive here with exuberant spontaneity. Her writings provide many glimpses into the overall family life and way of thinking about her life. Agnes' love for her family is intense, and it can make the reader jealous of such closeness, rarely seen in today's society. I do recommend this book to those who want to know about General Lee's family life, and those who are interested in knowing more about this delightful girl, taken from the world by illness at age 32.

Eleanor Agnes Lee was the daughter of General Robert E. Lee, the famous Conferderate Commander in the War Between the States. This is the journal from her girlhood. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are many books about Robert E. Lee, but there are very few about the rest of his family. This is one of the only sources on his third, beautiful daughter, Agnes, and lets us see better the life of the Lee family. It tells of her faith, her struggles, and her wonderful relationship with her family. I loved this book!
