Gorgeous Cookbook with Wonderful Recipes.......2005-08-10
This cookbook is stunning. It is done in the oversized format with lots of pictures and details. Mr. Bugialli gives information about the food and the people. I think I went through this book 2-3 times just looking at it and reading it before I even looked at the recipes. Good stuff in here, especially if you like seafood. (What else would people on an island eat?)Some of the items may be difficult, if not impossible to find, but he gives easy substitutions for most of them.

If you are familiar with the Sardinian area and the food of the land, you will LOVE this book. It is beautifully written and the pictures will astound you. Take the time to buy and enjoy this book, you'll have it for a long time.
Intense, clean, honest flavors - and almost dairy-free!.......1997-09-04
My household is full of eaters who are allergic to dairy products - but are Italian and love Italian food. Bugialli's book on Sardinian cooking saved the day. This book lets US-based cooks, using common (or easy to find) ingredients, create authentic Italian dishes that taste wonderful and are virtually dairy-free. The desserts section, of course, relies fairly heavily on dairy products. But the flavors provided by the main courses are so intense and clean, you can skip dessert and still be completely satisfied. Grazie, Signor Bugialli

A glimpse of Italy.......2000-01-19
Mr. Bugialli's book is a classic combination of coffee table picture book and fine cookbook. The recipes do not represent many of the standard Italian "classics." (from the tourist point of view). Instead, they take you deeper into Italian cuisine. The recipe for Torta di funghi was worth the price of the book according to the friends I served it to. Some recipes involve unusual ingredients, but that is OK with me. I care more about authenticity, than about convenience.
The fact that the text and pictures take you on a mini-tour of Italy makes this a great book, not just a great cookbook.

Beautiful Tuscan Cookbook.......1997-04-16
Giuliano Bugialli's "Foods of Tuscany" has a perfect balance -- probably 90% recipes and 10% pictures and background. The pictures are wonderful, the recipes are delicious, and the background information displays a surprising level of erudition. My only criticism would be that many of the recipes are very labor-intensive; Julia Child's typical recipes seem easy in comparison. But the results are worth the effort

A good read..........2007-02-20
Being a native, I was able to compare the recipes to what I was raised to expect from Neapolitan food, and I was pleased to find the recipes accurate. I would like to see a wider coverage of the food of the region and not just Naples, and as a previous reviewer noted, there are a few mistakes (there always seem to be little flubs in Bugialli's books), but I think it covers the feel of the region much better than Schwartz's book. His handling of such sacred topics as the sfogliatella make for good reading. All in all, like all of his books to date, I'm glad to own it.
The definitive Neapolitan cookbook in english............2004-03-08
Bugialli has again generated a well researched, technically precise and stunningly beautiful book. Bugialli is the only non-Neapolitan that could not only write the recipes down with uncanny accuracy, but capture and convey the uniquely Neapolitan aura that permeates all things that happen in the "real" city by the bay. A must buy for any cook's library!
Nice travelogue but poor as a cook book........2003-07-31
Lots of beautiful photos of Naples and Campania.
Poorly edited with many errors on Neapolitan language. Obviously written by a non-Neapolitan.
Few photos of foods. Makes me wonder if the recipes were ever tested.
Better choice is Naples at Table by Arthur Schwartz.
Buy this for the pretty pictures of the Amalfi coast, because as a cook book, I think it's a dud.

This book is a steal! I was trying to prepare a meal for the relative of my girlfriend - they are all stiff snobbish people from a noble italian family. I was at a loss, and I hit on this book suggested to me by the chef of the restaurant "Al Curvone" in Bologna, Italy. SInce the first meal I cooked, every dinner comes straight from this cookbook, and I managed to impress them so much they are asking me - born in New Jersey! - for advice on how to cook Italian. This book is also an exceptional conversation starter, full of marvellous pictures, will teach you much more than recipees, it's a trip inside Italian culinary culture. After reading the book, you will book your next holiday in Parma.

A book all international investors should read, especially those to whom "getting in on the ground floor" is important. A book all Americans should read in order to get an interesting perspective on Vietnam's culture, her view of the American people and the twists and turns post war relations have taken. A true and accurate picture of an Asian nation worth reading.
Fantastic Story - Great Advice.......2000-06-02
I've been investing in foerign markets for the past three years but have been afraid of getting into Vietnam for a while. After reading this book, though, I think I have a better idea of the opportunitites to both make and lose money over there. It is very well written, the color pictures are superb and I just love the author's immense knowledge.

The book is okay.......2000-07-21
The author presents his opinion that paying taxes is bad, and giving to charity is good. There are some techinical details on tax planning, but they seem to be too complex for the beginner and too easy for people who know about tax planning already. If you have a novice understanding of tax planning already, this could be a good book to fill in any gaps.
Good Place to Start.......2000-04-15
The book is for people who are new to the concept of Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) or need a quick refresher. The book does an excellent job describing the fundamentals of CRT and gives numerous hypothetical scenarios in which this method of financial planning would be beneficial. Although rather simplified, each scenario is illustrated with $ comparisons of Assets, Cash flow, and Estate tax, with and without the use of CRT. (This comparison got a bit tedious towards the end.) The book also contains a short glossary for reference. As with any beginner book on a highly technical and complex subject, the reader is left with more questions than he/she had started with. A good beginner book answers most of the questions that the reader started with and elevates the reader's curiosity to seek answers to a more refined set of questions. I believe this book has been successful in accomplishing that.

Yes, it really is a game of life and death. This book shows, though, that you can still have a laugh or two along the way. The stories which James tells distill the lessons of recovery down to good old boy stories you might have heard on the porches and at the picnics of the Georia country society.
The sincerity with which he sheds the trappings of ego and explores new heights of self depracation, are nothing if they are not touching. He tells in the book that it started as a way for him to leave something for his children as a way of explanation that the man they knew as father was not alcoholically absent from their lives because of anything they did.
The home spun philosophy and rural anecdotes may proove hard for some to grasp in their symbolic entirity. The language of the heart and honesty that is employed is understandable to those before and after him who choose not to drink or use, one day at a time.
This is a fine piece of work and belongs on any person with an interest in recover's bookshelf.
