5 out of 5 stars A very useful overview.......2000-06-09

40 articles by leading writers on aspects of knowledge management. The book covers the nature of Knowledge, Knowledge based strategies, Knowledge Management (KM) and organizational learning, and tools techniques and processes. They are of a uniformly high standard.

This is a very valuable reference resource in what has become a rather incoherent field - with a welter of definitions and perspectives. The Yearbook is a well balanced and well organised guide to navigation to available resources that also contains a very well chosen selection of articles to cover the various aspects of knowledge management.

Most of the articles are directed either to clarifying important concepts - for example Karl-Eric Sveiby's article on Tacit Knowledge - or to improving some aspect of practice - for example Charlotte Roberts on 'Can We Talk?', which is concerned with conversational skills. There is a wealth of useful frameworks and tools and some very useful summaries of key concepts such as the transformation that occurs between explicit and tacit knowledge. The emphasis is on human aspects of knowledge management rather than the technological end, but both receive good consideration.

In order to test the coverage, I worked through as many relevant themes as I could think of and checked whether I could find something useful on each theme. The only ones I did not find were the relatively new concern with physical design of space to enhance knowledge creation and transfer (an important part of knowledge infrastructure), and discussion of group meeting techniques for building shared understanding. That's a pretty good coverage score.

Part 5 Knowledge Management References contains:

* reviews of significant articles, * a listing of useful internet resources, with brief commentary on the content of each, * a directory of KM organisations * a directory of periodicals dealing with KM * a glossary of terms associated with KM and * a set of quotations (this last no doubt included for the benefit of speakers at the innumerable seminars and workshops on KM!)

5 out of 5 stars Up to date overview and startingpoint for getting into KM.......2000-04-25

As a student in Knowledge Engineering, assignment Knowledge Management I was searching for resources that could help me getting into Knowlege Management. The Yearbook 1999-2000 is a perfect starting point. All the main steps in managing knowledge are explained with articles from other books. By ordening the articles you can get a quick view on the ideas that are in the heads of the 'experts' of a specific subject

But that isn't the only asset of the book, it also gives a very usefull overview of companies, websites, journales etc. that are involved in knowledge management. A good roadmap to start your search for knowledge on knowledge management. And for the ones that are writing a thesis the set of quotations on Knowledge Management are a precious gift.

The Five Parts: 1) the nature of knowlege (what is Knowledge Management) 2)Knowledge Based Strategies (practice of Knowledge Management) 3)Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning (the direction knowledge management is going to, interesting for researcher and companies) 4) Knowledge Management Techniques (the tools that assist knowledge management, could be more in my humble opinion but are sufficient) and 5)Knowledge Management References (very intersting map of directions in knowledge management, very helpful for a beginner in knowledge management and writers of academic reports and thesi.) The Five Parts lead you into Knowledge Management and give enough pointers if your needs aren't satisfied. Mine were.

      Book Description

At the Table of Jim Thompson is a unique introduction to the house of Jim Thompson and the cuisine served at the three Jim Thompson restaurants in Bangkok, one which is located just outside the Jim Thompson House, another within the main silk shop and the third in an old house on Saladaeng Road. The recipes are prefaced with an introduction by William Warren, filled with reminiscences of the times spent and the illustrious guests who sat at Jim Thompson¹s table. Over 80 recipes are featured, divided into nine sections for easy reference. Traditional Thai recipes for curries and rice dishes are given a prominent place, while space is also made for novel fusion dishes which give a unique Western twist to conventional Thai dishes. Readers can either use individual recipes to create light meals and snacks, or pick and choose across sections to create a full-course meal complete with starter and dessert. The book is lavishly illustrated with stylish photography which spotlights the attractive texture and hue of the dishes. A glossary provides readers with quick, easy access to Thai terms and culinary references.

      Customer Reviews:

      5 out of 5 stars Very Refined.......2006-04-28

Whether or not you are new to Thai cooking, this book is sure to impress and inspire. The recipes are simple to follow. Some are traditional, some are Thai fusion style. The ingredients are readily available in most American cities. The presentation is modern and very refined. Casual and classy Thai food is what you are presented with here in this book. And if you are fortunate enough to visit Bangkok, a Jim Thompson restaurant experience will make you dream of Thailand for years to come. I highly recommend one at Mr. Thompson's Thai House Museum which is an absolute oasis of calmness and beauty.

      Book Description

"an invaluable resource for traders, investors, and hedge fund managers...very highly recommended."
      —Midwest Book Review

How To Become A Successful Trader offers an exciting tool for traders, investors, and hedge fund managers to maximize their trading performance. You gain a deeper understanding about how to enhance the positive forces of your psychology to create a winning career. With the knowledge of your Trading Personality, you are able to customize strategies and decide which method of trading; either Discretionary System, a Mechanical System, or a Hybrid System is best suited to your personality.

This book provides a road map and selection criterion for mutual funds, banks, hedge fund mangers and trading firms on how to choose a more effective trader for their firm. Dr. Gandevani's book utilizes a scientific research in dealing with trading psychology. His professional experience in trading and dealing with many traders whom he has trained as well as extensive research on psychology provided the unique and necessary insight for writing this book.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best of the Lot.......2007-05-31

I never buy trading books without first reading the library's copy but this was an exception and I am glad I did. This book attacks trading psychology from a completely different aspect than every other psychology book I've read.

His Trader Personality Profile is fairly complex and gives the trader much insight into his own psychology. Dr. Gandevani's recommendations after the TPP as to whether the trader should trade a mechanical system or a discretionary system are again brand new to my way of thinking but the basis he lays in the book are good. He also highlights things to change in your personality to become a better trader according to your TPP--which is a first compared to most trading books.

Finally, look at the price of this book. IF you are a trader, you know that price is the most important aspect of any trade and Amazon wants top dollar for this book and gets it because it's worth it.

5 out of 5 stars This is the first of what will surely be a better breed of books on trading psychology.......2006-10-29

This is the only book I've read on the topic of trading psychology that truly provides a framework for meaningful analysis of one's trading personality, and then guides the reader through a process of developing strategies for both exploiting strengths and mitigating weaknesses. Other than the many formatting, spelling and grammatical mistakes, the content is very clearly organized and easy to read and retain. Unlike many other authors in the field of trading, this one does not infuse his writing with pet theories. If you read this book you can expect to gain:

      - A clear understanding of the five factor model and how it differs from other models,

      - A fairly strong knowledge of those aspects of your personality that help your trading and those that are not so helpful,

      - A framework with which to identify those trading styles that suit your personality,

      - A clear process for defining what the author calls developmental and complementary strategies for working through personality-related trading issues, and

      - A launch point from which to start a life of trading with important self-knowledge that most traders never bother to uncover.

His presentation of perceptual biases and decision traps is also helpful in framing our problems as traders. A mindful reading of this book and purposeful studying of the model for personality assessment will help traders take control of their trading behavior and use it to their advantage.

3 out of 5 stars Personality profiling for Trading Success.......2004-02-23

A how to book for traders based not on systems, fund knowledge and investment strategies but the deeper more personal issue, the psychology and personality of the trader. Ned Gandevani drew from years of personal experience with the market and its numerous and random theories of successful trading and combined it with his study of behavioral finance and human psychology. The result is a comprehensive, practical guide for determining your own Trading Personality Profile thus ensuring your greatest chance for personal success.
How to Be a Successful Trader begins with a brief rundown of the Trading System including: entry Point, exit point, money management and market focus. The author then leads the reader into the basis for the book. Personality traits, approaches, types, and attributes, all of which contribute to the psychological profile. This profile helps the reader understand how to use their strengths and minimize weakness in order to develop a consistently profitable trade strategy.
The book includes questionnaires, response analysis and in-depth evaluation of the readers Trading Personality. The questionnaires and their results will be helpful in many facets of the reader's lives whether novice trader or market guru. The author has researched his topic at length, resulting in a precise, informative manual for all investors.
Dr. Gandevani has conducted Trading Psychology Seminars across the United States and Europe. He is a professional trader and the developer of the renowned Winning Edge S&P Methodology. Reviewer: Shirley Roe, Allbooks Reviews

5 out of 5 stars An invaluable resource for traders.......2003-06-12

How To Become A Successful Trader by professional trader Ned Gandevani is an invaluable resource for traders, investors, and hedge fund managers seeking to increase their trading performance and deepen their understanding to harnessing the powers of the free market. From personality profiles; to decision traps one needs to avoid; to the balance of insight vs. knowledge, How To Become A Successful Trader is a very highly recommended reading before plunging wholeheartedly into volatile financial circles and the vagaries of the marketplace.

5 out of 5 stars Rock solid. Results gauranteed........2003-04-03

The business of trading financial markets is perhaps one of the most daunting endeavors an individual can undertake. One with a multitude of technical and fundamental approaches which can bewilder any new trader (and many experienced traders as well). After countless hours and perhaps years of hard work in researching and understanding markets the journey down the path to a successful trading career has only just begun. Now the real work begins.

If one is truly eager to discover the individual that lies beneath just become a trader and you are assured to find out. Every emotion you have ever experienced and many not yet experienced will take residence on your desk right next to your monitors...permanent residence for most.

Flip through any magazine focused on trading and you will see countless ads promoting the latest and greatest trading systems and tricked out software which will give you the edge you need. Nonsense. What truly separates the consistent winners from the rest is simply psychology. Mastering psychological mechanisms which trigger all trading decsisions is the real edge winners have over losers. Yet for every 100 or so books written on trading methods, perhaps one will focus on trading pyschology. And those few have been lacking to say the least.

Enter Dr. Ned Gandevani. "How To Become A Successful Trader" is an instant classic that cuts to the chase and sets the record straight, once and for all. Beyond just theory, Dr. Gandevani's use of solid research and fresh ideas delivers on the title. If one is truly honest with himself, Dr. Gandevani's Trading Personality Profile (TTP) will target all strengths and more importantly, all weaknesses in one's personal makeup. But it doesn't end there. Dr. Gandevani not only highlights flaws but offers ingenious, yet practical methods to correct them. Methods that are not only applicable to trading, but to life as well.

This groundbreaking work is a must read for all traders, period.

        Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

5 out of 5 stars Has history been tampered with?.......2007-10-23

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RAZQNMXM4M9CL Has history been tampered with? Yes, it has! Did events and eras such as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Roman Empire , the Dark Ages, and the Renaissance, actually occur within a very different chronology from what we've been told? Yes, they certainly did!

The history of humankind is both drastically shorter and dramatically different than generally presumed.

Why is it so? On one hand, it was usual custom to justify the claims to title and land by age and ancestry, and on the other the court historians knew only too well how to please their masters. The so called universal classic world history is a pack of intricate lies for all events prior to the 16th century. World history as we learn it today was entirely fabricated in the 16th-18th centuries. It's likely that nobody told you before, but

there is not a single piece of firm written evidence or artefact that is reliably and independently dated prior to the 11th century.

Naturally, after what you've learned in school and university, you will not easily believe that the classical history of ancient Rome, Greece, Asia, Egypt, China, Japan, India, etc., is manifestly false.

You will point accusing finger to the pyramids in Egypt, to the Coliseum in Rome and Great Wall of China etc., and claim, aren't they really ancient, thousands of years ancient? Well, there is no valid scientific proof that they are older than 1000 years!

The oldest original written document that can be reliably dated belongs to the 11th century!

New research asserts that Homo sapiens invented writing (including hieroglyphics) only 1000 years ago. Once invented, writing skills were immediately and irreversibly put to the use of ruling powers and science.

The consensual chronology we live with was essentially crafted in the 16th century by the Jesuits.

The world history was compiled from contradictory mix of innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts and other irrefutable proofs delivered by late mediaeval astronomers that were cemented by the authority of writings of the Church Fathers.

Early in life, we learn about ancient history. Children love the magical lessons of history - they are like fairy tales. Teachers recite breathtaking stories; very soon We learn by heart the names and deeds of brave warriors, wise philosophers, fabulous pharaohs, cunning high priests and greedy scribes.

We learn of gigantic pyramids and sinister castles, kings and queens, dukes and barons, powerful heroes and beautiful ladies, emaciated saints and low-life traitors.

Ancient history is based documents, manuscripts, printed books, paintings, monuments and artefacts - called primary sources.

The problem is that neither these ancient documents, nor events described therein can be irrefutably dated, moreover they contradict each other for the most part.

When a school textbook tells us that Genghis Khan in year X or Alexander in year Y, have each conquered half of the world, it means only that it is so said in some of the written sources.

There are no answers to simple questions:

When were these primary sources written?

Where and by whom were these sources found?

It is wrongly presumed that ancient and medieval chronicles, written by Genghis Khan's or Alexander the Great contemporaries and eyewitnesses, are readily available. Actually, only sources written hundreds or even thousands of years after the events are there, compiled mostly in the 16th 18th centuries, or even later.

As a rule, these sources suffered considerable multiple manipulations, falsifications and distortions by editing. At the same time,

innumerable originals of ancient documents under various pretexts were destroyed in Europe under various pretexts.

The names of persons and geographical sites often changed meaning and location during the course of the centuries.

Geographical locations became clearly defined on maps only with the advent of printing.

This made possible the circulation of identical copies of the same map for purposes of the military, navigation, education and governance tasks.

Historians from Oxford say: "hey, everybody knows that Julius Caesar lived in the first century B.C.

`Julius Caesar' statement is only a point of view as

there is simply no irrefutable documentary proof that Julius Caesar or any other great name of antiquity ever existed.

Better than that - extremely rare sources that can be reliably dated back to the 10th-14th centuries A D, do not show the polished picture of classical history.

They show a picture both contradictory and confusing.

All methods of dating of ancient sources and artefacts are erroneous:

Radio-carbon C14 method produces dating with exactitude of plus minus 1500 years, therefore it is too crude for dating of events in historical timeframe!

The Almagest tractate, which lies as corner stone contemporary chronology, compiled in the 2nd century A D by Ptolemy, the founding father of astronomy, contains astronomical data of 9th to 16th century!

The Bronze Age,that has supposedly began 5000 years ago. Bronze is made of 90% copper and 10% tin, but the technology for tin extraction dates back to 14th century A D!.

All eclipses contained in manuscripts, like Thucydides one, relating 'ancient' events have exclusively medieval dating. All horoscopes cut in stone or painted in Egyptian temples, like Dendera have exclusively early medieval dating solutions.

Not quite what you have learned in school? Open your eyes, and, you will find sufficient proof to reach step by step the inevitable conclusion that the classical chronology is false and therefore, that the history of ancient and medieval world universally accepted today, is also false. Have a fresh outlook on everything said or printed about "ancient" and "enigmatic" Roman, Greek and Egyptian, medieval as well as all other "lost and found" civilizations.

Antiquity and Dark Ages are phantoms invented in the 16th 18th and polished in 19th 20thcenturies. Human civilization is in fact barely 1000 years old!

This book will change your perception of History forever!
What if Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt were invented during Renaissance?
What if The Old Testament was a rendition of events of the Middle Ages?
What if Jesus Christ was born in 1053 and crucified in 1086 AD?
        Sounds Unbelievable?
Not after you've read "History: Fiction or Science?" by Anatoly Fomenko, the genius mathematician.
Armed with astronomy and computers Anatoly Fomenko turns History into a rocket science.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

        Book Description

A major force in American society, the work ethic has played a pivotal role in U.S. history, affecting cultural, social, and economic institutions. But what is the American work ethic? Not only has it changed from one era to another, but it varies with race, gender, and occupation. Considering such diverse groups as Colonial craftsmen, slaves, 19th century women, and 20th century factory workers, this book provides a history of the American work ethic from Colonial times to the present. Tracing both continuities and differences, the book is divided into sections on the Colonial era, the 19th century and the 20th century and includes chapters on both major occupational groups, such as farmers, factory workers, laborers, and gender, racial, and ethnic minorities. This approach, which covers all major groups in U.S. history, enables the reader to discern how the work ethic applied to different occupational and ethnic groups over time. The book subjects the work ethic to an analysis based on historical, sociological, economic, and anthropological perspectives and provides an analysis of current thinking about how the work ethic applied to various groups and classes in different historical periods.

            Book Description

Tell me about when I was little.

            To my darling child--
I write my memories in this book because I love you. I want you to know all about your family, the things we did together, and how important you are to me. Here is what I most want to share with you, from when I was a girl growing up to the joyful day you were born, from your favorite games to my wishes and prayers for you.
I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
            Love,
            Mom

From the instant you cuddle your new baby (and feel your heart fill with love) to the day your son or daughter grows up and leaves home forever: the years fly by all too quickly, and even the special times are apt to fade from memory. And, of course, children themselves cannot recall those earliest years at all--their first bath, steps, and birthday. Make this your special gift to your child: a book with all those wonderful times preserved. There's a space for clippings, souvenirs, written reminiscences, and photos, touching quotes, and appealing design details on every page.
There's one for a daughter, and one for a son, appropriately color-coded.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Bonding Tool for Mothers and Their Children!.......2004-11-14

I bought this book to give to my mother, and when she opened it, I could tell it was going to be the best present either of us would ever have. What a wonderful way to let your child understand your life when you were their age, and let them see what you had to go through. It's purpose is twofold: it allows the parent to reflect back on their life, and see how times have changed, and it also lets the son (or daughter, which is another book)compare their life to their parent's, and gain a deeper understanding of them. And when all is said and done, this book is probably the best keepsake to remember loved ones when they pass on. My mother wrote in her dedication, "As you approach your 30th birthday, I hope that your life is as exciting, and filled, and as happy as mine has been with you in my life. From the moment I felt you in my tummy, till the last time in my life that I will see you; you should know how proud I am to be your Mom, and how much you are loved by me"
