Every day thousands of people are killed and injured on our roads. Men, women or children walking, biking or riding to school or work, playing in the streets or setting out on long trips, will never return home, leaving behind shattered families and communities. Millions of people each year will spend long weeks in hospital after severe crashes and many will never be able to live, work or play as they used to do. Current efforts to address road safety are minimal in comparison to this growing human suffering.

The World Health Organization and the World Bank have jointly produced this World report on road traffic injury prevention. Its purpose is to present a comprehensive overview of what is known about the magnitude, risk factors and impact of road traffic injuries, and about ways to prevent and lessen the impact of road crashes. The document is the outcome of a collaborative effort by institutions and individuals. Over 100 experts, from all continents and different sectors - including transport, engineering, health, police, education and civil society - have worked to produce the report.

Road traffic injuries are a growing public health issue, disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups of road users, including the poor. But road traffic crashes and injuries are preventable. Road traffic injury prevention must be incorporated into a broad range of activities, such as the development and management of road infrastructure, mobility planning, the provision of health and hospital services, child welfare services, and urban and environmental planning. The health sector is an important partner in this process. Its roles are to strengthen the evidence base, provide appropriate pre-hospital and hospital care and rehabilitation, conduct advocacy, and contribute to the implementation and evaluation of interventions.

The time to act is now. Road safety is no accident. It requires strong political will and concerted, sustained efforts across a range of sectors. Acting now will save lives.

Useful and Easy to Understand.......2007-10-07

I am currently in the process of creating my own LLC at the time writing this review. The book is very helpful to understand the process and the things I will have to worry about from a legal and also tax perspective. I hired a lawyer for the company creation before I bought the book and have now the feeling that I could be doing it without paying a lawyer. However, the book made me realize that there is a lot of paperwork involved in the process and the lawyer will do all that work for me, which saves me a lot of time.

I am currently very busy preparing everything for the daily business operation to come so I do not regret my decision of using a lawyer. If time is not too much of a problem, but saving the cost for a good corporate lawyer is, this book will be able to help you to get the process done by yourself.

For people like me, who use a lawyer is the book still helpful, because there are a lot of things to consider and know about, after your LLC was created. It will serve me well in the years to come. I am sure about that.

Quick easy read, Great Information!.......2007-08-05

I read this whole book on a flight from Miami to Seattle. I had just started an LLC through a Lawyer and wanted to get an idea of how to put together the Operating Agreement. This book had a great Operating Agreement example in the back. It also had simple examples for each scenario that helped me understand the best type of LLC set-up for my business. Nolo's Quick LLC covered everything I needed to know in an easy format to read and reference. After reading, I felt I was able to discuss my ideas intelligently with my lawyer and ask him questions I would have never thought of before.

Informative, Provides a Framework, A Bit Conservative.......2007-02-12

Having just established my own Limited Liability Company (LLC), I wanted a book that would define what a LLC is in the framework of other business models, including tax and legal implications. I wanted to ensure that a LLC was the best fit for me. That is exactly what this book did, and it did it well.

If you are thinking of starting your own business an a LLC, but are not sure of which business model to use (Sole Propertiorship, LLC, Parternship, S-Corp, C-Corp), this book will help inform you of the pros and cons of LLCs, and how they fit into the overall legal and tax structure.

The only reason I rated this book at 4 stars instead of 5 stars, is that it scared me a bit in regards to the legal and tax requirements, without providing enough detail to give me a grasp on why the requirements were in effect. Having also been in contact with a certified tax expert and accountant while I was reading this book, I learned that this book errs on the side of being very conservative, or even a bit scary, in regards to legal and tax requirements. So I would advise anyone who gets this book to also balance it out by reading a more aggressive book about saving money on taxes and operating an LLC legally.

After reading this book, I also read "Your Limited Liability Company, An Operating Manual" by the same author. That book provides in depth detail on the day-to-day running of an LLC. It helped me tremendously. However, this book is also conservative when it comes to saving money on taxes.

Overall, both books are great reads.

This book was not a disappointment by any means. I wanted to learn if forming an LLC was right for me and by the end of reading the book, I knew it was. Nolo's book was surprisingly easy to read and understand. Although the writer is a lawyer, he writes in every day speak and makes the concepts as easy to understand as possible. The book is also more entertaining then one might think. The only thing I would have liked to see as part of this book is a step by step list of who to contact to form the LLC including any forms or at least a link to forms you would need to complete the task. Overall, if you want to learn about LLC's and decide if the business form is right for you, then this is the right book to choose.

Cute cookbook, and very good!.......2002-07-05

I bought this book mostly for the stories and illustrations, but was surprised by how good the recipes are! Almost every recipe I've tried from this book has been a great success and added to my permanent recipe file, and I am fairly confident whenever I try something new from this cookbook that it will turn out well. Some of my new regular favorite meals include the Risotto with Asparagus and Pine Nuts, the Porcini Omelet with Feta and Sage and the Whole-Wheat Vegetarian Pie. There are some old standbys included in this cookbook, but for the most part, the recipes are delicious and different without being bizarre or difficult. If you're looking for some delicious new recipes, or even if you are just a fan of the movie Babe, consider getting this book. Even if you never cook out of it, you'll enjoy the "cozy" feeling of the stories and photos. Now that this book has been remaindered, it's really a great buy, too.

I will try to avoid the obvious references to food and pigs. *grin* That aside, this is a wonderful cookbook! I bought it as a fan of the movie, and was delightfully surprised at how good a book it is. Contains breakfasts, soups, salads, vegetables, suppers, pickles & relishes, and deserts. The warm linguini with fresh tomato, balsalmic vinegar, and parmigiano-reggiano is quite good, as are the pecan sugar cookies. Although these recipes are not vegan, they are most definately vegetarian, and tasty!

Resting in my hands is a slender book. Its cover has a black matte finish that is pleasing to the touch and a picture crafted by the author that effortlessly holds my attention. This book, its cover, the paper used to embrace what will become some of the most illuminative words I have read in a long while, and the graceful artwork therein, all form a package that is difficult to release. I hold this book for a long while then manage to put it down only to return to hold it again later. I know about the subject matter that resides between the covers of this work because its author Magie Dominic wrote to me about the narrative that lives there. I know she writes with an eloquence to which I am unaccustomed. I also know that once I begin to read what I know will be an intense autobiographical chronicle; I won't be able to stop. Maybe its because I do know what's there that I hesitate to begin. Yes. And that's why I hold on to this small, beautiful book but have a hard time starting the journey.

When I do begin to read The Queen of Peace Room I am immediately rewarded. The prose is solid, it's beautiful, and it's satiating. Make no mistake, this story is disturbing but its telling is done with such a light touch that I barely feel the sting until I put it down. Then it won't leave my mind.

I grew up in a world so radically different from Magie Dominic's that I find myself having to catch my breath as I try and place myself inside of her world - inside of her being. Tucked between the covers of this willowy book is a narrative so immense it's just barely contained by the fine matte jacket surrounding the work. The things that go to make up this life I can only imagine.

She was a victim of sexual abuse at the age of seven or eight at the hands of a metaphorical Cyclopes. Like Polyphemus from Homer's Odyssey, Dominic's tormentor was fond of warm, moist, human flesh. Greedily he gorged himself on a child's mind, body, and dignity. The beast's hideous glass eye perched on the family car's dashboard watched impassively as a child became prey. An unblinking witness to a horror no human should ever endure.

In the 1960s, she was stalked, beaten, and raped by an unknown assailant. She plunged into a deep depression and attempted suicide only to be comforted by a mother who made it clear that all of this trauma had absolutely no place in public discussion - no place ruining the family's Christmas.

The Queen of Peace Room unfolds, as Magie Dominic unfolds, during an eight-day retreat in a place safe from the intruding world surrounded by the love of kindred spirits and the hushed quietude of nature. In a deeply personal and inviting tone, Magie takes us into the deepest folds of her life. She leads us through a wilderness of pain, humiliation, death and finally to a serene place where a harnessed field meets a wild meadow. Here, at this locus in time and space we see the transformation of Magie Dominic from whatever she may have been in the past, to an exquisite though solitary butterfly resting in the stillness on a tall blade of grass: whole, complete, and good.

The Queen of Peace Room is expansive life writing. The tragedy bound in this tale is epic. Yet, there is affirmation in Magie Dominic and in her story. The refusal of one human soul to let go of its dignity, its absolute unwillingness to surrender, is genuinely heroic. Reading this made me cherish the brutal privilege of being human - like the one who wrote this story. Like the one who lives this life.
