An excellent book of Business Law.......2000-08-31

I bought this book a week ago. I am a foreign-educated lawyer and I have decided to compare Business Law of my country with Business Law in USA (learned at the US colleges and universities). I was pleasently suprised and also very satisfied with this buy. I appreciate very much the complete coverage of business law topics - especially integration of ethics, social responsibility, economics, historic issues into the presentation of business law topics as well as international topics. The book is written using clear language without problems of understanding as well as for non-native English readers. It was a perfect idea to include TOTALAW CD-ROM which provides access to 30 updated acts and statutes. I appreciate it. I would say the book worth its price and I highly recommend it to everybody who is in any connection with business law. I thank the author for unbelievable excellent work on this third edition of Contemporary business law book.

The emphasis of this book is on understanding special characteristics of the financial systems of emerging markets, where the existence of market imperfections such as asymmetric information, adverse selection and moral hazard can cause financial market failures. Considering the Thai stock market as an example, this book provides an econometric study of a typical Asian financial system. Many contemporary techniques and models are used in this study, including simple multivariate regression, multi-factor model, exponential smoothing, Holt Winter’s models, and GARCH type models. The findings of the existence of rational bubbles, anomalies, volatility and other characteristics reveal evidence of inefficiency in the Thai stock market. Based on these results, the book includes justifications for public policies in such economies and makes suggestions for further research areas.

This book, based on a new model for stock prices, postulates that the stock market made a major top as we began the new millennium and has started into a sideways trading range that will last approximately four years. The book details the exact reasons for this viewpoint and also presents strategies to invest through such a period.

This book contains a number of major firsts. The standard stock market model, the efficient market theory, ends up concluding that stock prices are random and unpredictable. This new model holds that stock prices are indeed random except at certain moments when they do become predictable. A study that proves this is presented in chapter 5. Knowing and learning how to locate those predictable moments is one of the main subjects of the book. It is believed that the “buy and hold” investment strategy will no longer work during this period and market timing will again emerge as a necessary investment tool. The final chapter details strategies that may be useful in making money during such a roller-coaster period.

Ministers, reformers, radicals and sectarians all went into print to defend or destroy the clergy’s right to a tenth of the produce of the land. Tithes pushed at the limits of private property, and both their opponents and their defenders recognised their significance for ownership, the law, liberty and individuality.
