A Lot Less There Than Meets The Eye.......2006-08-05

I don't mean for this review to sound cruel. The simple truth is that the book provides almost no information whatsoever past its Table of Contents. There are indeed 100 jobs listed. Each one is given about one page worth of commentary -- perhaps 500 words on each topic. The most helpful thing under each topic is that the author, Ms. Rogak, offers a book or online reference to help augment the information. Sadly, however, that's about all that's here.

In other books of this subject, each job is dealt with not only more thoroughly but with more respect for the reader's time and concerns over what might be involved. Again, without meaning to be cruel, I must say that the book feels more like an outline rather than a resource. If you took photocopies or screen shots of the pages in the Table of Contents, and then did your own research by using an online search engine to look up these topics, you'd save yourself the price of the book, plus tax and shipping.

Other books on this topic, e.g. "The Best Home Businesses for People 50+" by Paul and Sarah Edwards (listed as a "buy both" promotion here on Amazon), have a great deal more "value added" than does this book. I salute the effort of having created the book; I can't recommend it, however.

A very interesting book to ponder.......2006-06-24

I am not sorry that I bought this book. Lisa Rogak is very insightful and she gives lots of useful info and theories.
However, I'd like to recommend that you also buy a copy of Untapped Wealth Discovered. This book is written by two very smart and sensible authors who have lots of very valueable info and knowledge to impart.
Jeff Marquis and Kerry Harrison should be taken very seriously. Kerry has the same name as me but it's not why I like this particular book.

Okay for ideas.......2005-03-23

This book is the typical package of business ideas. The book gets 2 stars because the few pages devoted to entrepreneurship has very little substance and the information under each idea is sparse and in many cases not helpful. In addition, there are numerous ideas that require a tremendous amount of work. The author does state that what may be work for one person, may be play to another. However, this relates to doing something you enjoy or having a passion where you don't mind putting in the time or work. The title suggests that the business ideas listed in the book will not require a great deal of time or effort, which is not the case for many of the ideas(Masonry, Restauranteur for example).

This book has some value for those that have not read similar books of this type. Otherwise, I would take a pass on this one.

In this small book there is a surprising amount of information on Jackie and Letitia's entertaining style, in stories, beautiful photographs, recipes and anecdotes. I especially like how she includes descriptions of the table settings (tablecloths etc) and menu choices, with short explanations of why they were chosen, and how they parted with tradition in many cases. It also provides a peak at the highly talented guests outside of politics whom they entertained, and how they entertained them! As other reviewers said, the recipes are mainly classics. Some I wouldn't dare serve today but it's nice to know what to do if I ever wish to!

A truely beautiful look at Camelot - and a great cookbook!.......2000-12-01

I already own Rene Verdon's White House cookbook which is an enjoyable read as well as a great reference. Many of his great, classic recipes from that collection re-appear in this wonderful, picture-filled book that recreates the magic of Jackie's style that made Camelot. Rene Verdon and Letitia Baldridge show that they have not lost their touch and guide us through a host of beautiful occasions. My personal highlight is the famous state dinner at Mount Vernon. We find out many intriguing details about entertaining at the highest level and are able to take a little of the glamour to our own table. Rene Verdon's recipes are great classics that are meant to be enjoyed over and over again. They can be reproduced by the capable home cook with highly satisfying results.

A Welcome Antidote To Those OTHER Kennedy Books..........2000-12-01

This is a marvellous, beautifully presented look at the entertaining done by President and Mrs. Kennedy during their too-brief thousand days in the White House. Letitia Baldrige was Mrs. Kennedy's Social Secretary, and she has collaborated with Kennedy White House Chef Rene Verdon on reminiscences and recipes that really do evoke that very special time and place. Baldrige's anecdotes give glimpses behind the scenes that help us all understand how distinguished the hosts, guests, and entertaining really were- and her comments are often very funny indeed. Verdon's recipes are drawn from menus actually served at the White House on historic occasions, such as the famed evening when cellist Pablo Casals played for the Kennedys and their guests. The book is incredibly generous with its illustrations, which range from White House photos, to pictures of actual invitations for the events described, to fashion designer Oleg Cassini's original sketches for Mrs. Kennedy's clothes. For Jackie devotees, the book is a bonanza, with many photos showing her in her full splendour as First Lady; one 1954 photo of her lighting the candles on her dinner table may be the single most beautiful ever taken of her. I have one small, gentle caveat: Verdon's recipes have been given before, in different form, in his 1967 "The White House Chef Cookbook". The versions of the recipes in this new book have been changed a bit from the 1967 incarnations, mainly with an eye to increasing the strength of flavour; today's palates are evidently more demanding than those of the Sixties. Still, you're getting a look at the Kennedy White House from the people who made it HAPPEN- no gossip, no hearsay, no errors of research. Baldrige and Verdon were indisputably THERE, and you could do much worse than to buy their book. Come to think of it, if you've been reading some of the other Kennedy books issued recently, you have.

Save your money. Never, never waste your funds on the drivel this author produces!!

A profitable trader would never have time enough to write even one tenth the quantity of words this person produces.

Find traders that actually make money to learn from. There are a few that have written good books.

For futures traders try: Trading Day by Day

These are simply starting points, but are written by REAL traders, not worthless-book producers.

Filler Galore But Not Much More.......2003-01-13

I feel that Day Tader II is really a rip-off as it basically just reguritates most of the material found in volume one. THIS is typical Bernstein -- the goal is dollars from book sales, not educating the reader. Mr. Bernstein does not respect his readers, and this is the sad part because he obviously is a highly intelligent man who probably could contribute a lot to the field of daytrading education if he weren't so needy and greedy. I wouldn't go so far as to call him "Jake the Snake", but I do think he should put more care into the content of his books.

Having read many books on Day Trading and attended courses and seminars, this book added "confidence". It gives you simple systems to work with, 30MBO, InsideDays, Gaps, etc.. It also tells you what the indicators lack and what most traders lack to succeed, discipline. Use the 30MBO but don't change the method. Stick to it. Be disciplined. Aimed at the futures and commodities traders, these methods also work with fast high volume, high votility stocks. I emailed Jake with a question on the 30MBO and got a reply in hours, that's value. I have ordered his next book, "The Complete Guide to Day Trading Stock". Can't wait. I cannot see how anyone (who is not a beginner) would not benefit from this book.

Bennett has combed the letters, papers, speeches, etc. of America's founders and collected them in a manageable form. This collection provides considerable insight into the founders' thought process.

Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Rush, Franklin, Hamilton: they're all here and more. Learn what they thought about one another. Find out how they really felt about freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, free speech, slavery, and political institutions. Gain respect and appreciation for the original values on which America was founded.

Bennett often interjects his editorial among the original documents. Sometimes this is helpful, sometimes not.

You should know this book has a conservative tone. It is for historians to decide whether this tone is Bennett's bias or the founders' attitudes.

If you want to understand for yourself why America was framed as it was, get it from the horses' mouths.

The Unveiled Mind of a Nurse is an honest, intriguing tale of a Honduran woman's battle and eventual triumph over debilitating manic depression. It is told by a woman who suffered physical and mental abuse, which does not discriminate against class or culture. Warren's book is an interesting glimpse into the life of a prominent island family and may be of interest to those who suffer from similar challenges.
