Waldin has done it again! A terrific read.
This is a writer that really knows his subject. But his knowledge is conveyed in such a way that he doesn't make the whole subject of wine intimidating. Nor does he patronize his readership.
Monty Waldin is one of the few wine writers out there that both literally and metaphorically is willing to get his hands dirty; he goes to these vineyards, he works on the vines and the soil and he is not beholden to any paymaster.
WARNING: It'll make you want to go to Tuscany.

This book is mostly about business taxation in Italy. The spine title is actually: Italy tax guide. Therefore beware that you're not getting an "area handbook" of Italy's people, economics, culture, geography etc. (there are only 12 pages on the country's profile) but a guide to Italy's taxes.

Easy To Follow Steps.......2001-06-29
The book was very good in terms of a high level overview of the steps necessary to setup a business in Arizona. The forms in the book are slightly outdated but the information to put on the new forms is still correct. I would definatly recommend reading this book instead of paying an outside service to fill out the paperwork.

A "Real" Disaster Response Expert.......2005-12-27
If he'd only gotten to pg. 45 Michael Brown could have been a hero instead of a goat during the Katrina response. On that page he would have learned that "some of FEMA's most spectacular failures had been due to a lack of communication . . . state and local officials had expected the agency to simply move in and take charge . . . when the agency didn't hear from them through a formal disaster declaration it as assumed that they didn't need FEMA's help." Guess what happened again in Katrina?
Witt (FEMA boss during the Clinton years) provides summaries of a number of prior disasters, lessons learned, and nine lessons to apply to businesses in crises.
Worth reading.
Excellent Book to Learn How to Handle Tough Times.......2002-12-19
I found this book to be a good outline for handling a crisis. It gets slow sometimes in describing the events the author was involved in but overall the message and points are sound. I struggled a little since he is a Clintonite, having served with Slick Willie and he talks and teaches of integrity while at the same time loving Bubba ... but that doesnt take away from the job hes done at FEMA or the lessons he is passing along. Good book.
Crisis management techniques from an expert.......2002-11-12
James Witt is the former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In "Stronger in the Broken Places" he takes his knowledge and experiences and develops a plan for dealing with disaster. His experience has taught him that there are four critical times when you can deal with an emergency. The first is to anticipate it as a possibility and prepare for it. The second is once you understand it you can make plans to prevent it or mitigate its effects. The third is when and how you respond to the emergency. And the last opportunity is during the recovery phase.
"Stronger in the Broken Places" clearly explains how businesses, communities, or even individuals can work through a potential crisis. Thorough in its coverage of crisis management, it starts with examining your company's values since everything you do will have to be based on your company value system and priorities. From there it follows a logical progression through communication, changing priorities, identifying strengths, keeping employees encouraged and functioning well during a disaster, re-evaluating the plan, etc. One of the best texts on managing through a major crisis, it is filled with multiple examples from real life that make it a truly educational read while driving home the important points. A recommended read for business leaders and others who may be involved in crisis management.

This was the first book I read on the subject of Tequilla, however not the best. The color illustrations and proposed tequilla-based drinks are great. However, more consideration and depth is given to tequilla history, manufacturing processes, and culture in "The Book of Tequila : A Complete Guide". If you intend to further your exploration of tequillas in the SF Bay area, you might consider visiting Fiesta Del Mar in Mountain View, the Blue Agave, or Maya in San Francisco (2nd & Folsom). These restaurants have excellent tequilla menus from which to select.
Not just a guide, but a real literary work.......1998-05-29
The first thing that strikes you about this book is the quility of it's pages and color photographs. It is of extremely high quality and the size is most convenient. I actually had trouble putting this book down. The author makes the words flow like few other "guide" type works I've seen. The information is straightforward and comprehensive without bias. If you enjoy tequila, you need this book. Only the lack of an index and a comparative chart keep this book from the highest rating.

The ideas and concepts expressed in this book are a true, real eye-opener. The basic idea is that losing trades usually go against you right from the start, while the winning trades don't.

Interesting money management ideas........2001-12-05
As a professional futures trader, I bought this book in the search for new ideas to refine my money management rules. I have been utilizing the same trading system for years, but this book has enabled me to capture more of my systems open profit, while also limiting the size of potential losing trades.
If you do not currently have a trading system, this book will not give you one. The purpose of this book is to help the trader eliminate some of the rough edges of an existing system's money management procedures.
If you are trading a system, or wish to learn more about money management rules, pick up a copy of this book, as many new ideas are discussed. Also, be sure you are using Microsoft Excel, as spreadsheets are used frequently throughout the book, and duplicating the examples is useful.

The adverse excursion evaluation and exploitation does play an important role in systematic trading, however, the book later on skin-deep touches trading management and betting strategies, which in turn do not have much to do with the title of the book.

I spend a lot of time looking for quality literature about historical events that is appropriate for the younger reader. Mrs. Livingston is a celebrated poet who has really found her niche. Her style of poetry is just right for this subject.
