A Politically Incorrect Situation.......2000-05-04

This book was written for those who are experiencing serious problems in the workplace. In the Introduction, the authors provide a self-audit consisting of a series of direct questions. For example:

"Have you ever wondered why so many people in high positions seem to be selfish, power-crazed boneheads?"

"Do you detest office politics?"

"Do relationships at work remind you of a dysfunctional family?"

The balance of the book focuses on strategies and tactics to help resolve (or at least alleviate) the problems suggested by the various questions. The book is divided into several different parts which focus on the nature of cluelessness, organizational politics, improving relationships on the job, "mapping the pecking order", "cracking the cultural code", understanding change, and "choosing [an appropriate] life path." The book makes tons of sense. The authors obviously care sincerely about the victims of cluelessless. They offer what they call "both an atlas and a guide" for coping with system dynamics, "the murky world of politics", "the emotional world of people at work", "the red tape of bureaucracy", "the depths of tribal life at work", and sudden/traumatic change. Finally, they examine "a deeper question that's a silent companion at work: What life path do you really want to follow?"

Who should read this book? I highly recommend it to those who feel that they are clueless and/or victims of those who are. The authors offer excellent advice as to what to do (and what not to do), how to do it, and when. I also recommend it highly to anyone in a senior management position who has direct responsibility for developing others to their full potential. Chances are that many (of not most) of those "others" are clueless, not only in the workplace but also to the fact that this book is available.

Huge Disappointment.......2000-05-03

Take just a little bit of useful information, add a little bit more of relevant information, put in a whole lot of useless junk and fluff, and tack on a catchy title: That's what this one is folks. I usually give away books that I end up not wanting to keep. In the case of this book, I wouldn't do that to anyone. I bought this one yesterday and it is destined for the trash barrel today. It's interesting that trash like this even gets published.

I sensed that she has tremendous amount of trading experience. Simply put, she knows what she is talking about. Along with, not in particular order, Constance Brown, Linda Bradford Raschke, and Robin Mesch, Cynthia Kase once again proves that lady traders are as good as,if not better than, gentlemen traders. Job well done, Ms. Kase.

Identity theft revisited.......2006-03-24

Below is a review of this book by a "Ron Davis" who styles himself as "a proud member of the Market Technicians Association." Bzzzt! I am the only current or past Ron Davis in the Market Technicians Association. Interestingly enough, I also have a successful real estate practice. Quite the coincidence -- makes one wonder.

The "RD" below finds the book to be without substance. Perhaps what one sees depends, in part, on what one brings to the book. I quite agree with the reviewers who say this is not a book for beginners. I had a couple of "aha" moments reading the book, one about Kase DevStops (I'd better have yet another look at those) and one about one of my own proprietary indicators. A few minutes of programming and, by golly, I was able to derive a bit more useful information from my own gadget.

What's this book good for? (1)A trading methodology or (2)ideas about ideas. I'll not broach (1) -- the book does that. I have already mentioned two things that jumped out at me. I also want to take a look at her variation on Elliot Wave counting and targeting. And, on a second read, I may find other things I'd like to fiddle with a bit.

Criticisms: My criticisms fall into two categories (1)purist mathematics nit-picking (I am a mathematician by training) and (2) my laziness/the book's lack of complete exposition. The mathematical nitpicking is not relevant except to a mathematician: for instance, the number of random distributions which are not Gaussian/Normal are at least an order of infinity larger than the number of Gaussian distributions. Should the person who is reading to learn of trading care? I wouldn't think so. My Laziness/the book's incomplete exposition: What? I really have to turn on my brain and think through how to implement the ideas? No cookbook approach here? Of course, if one were being rational, not lazy, one could point out the advantage to having to think: one might actually learn what it is one is doing. And, one might even think up a new idea, heaven forfend.

In conclusion, not only do I resent the attempted identity theft by the person below, but I especially resent being represented as such an empty-headed fool that I cannot see the considerable value in this book.

Trading with the odds.......2006-03-17

Book was quite expensive. $55 for 143 pages. I found some of the graph illustrations difficult to follow since the printing was so bad. Requires many readings to get the full jist of what the author is saying. Overall, I found the book and concepts interesting.

It is amazing how we humans all have our own agendas. Someone founf this book 'useless', some found it exciting...that's all fair...I found it revolutionary (read the post before this one). One fellow bloats his ego and describes how he is a great technician. I'd like to see how his finances compare to Cynthia Kase; as a trader. The proof is in the pudding....

This is a revolutionary book and there are very few out there!

(however, I noticed esignal's add for Kase Statware states 95% successful is predicting market turns...rubbish!)

Still that's a differnet subject, isn't it!

Original and real work to read.......2005-12-06

Cynthia Kase thinks about trading in a different way from most people. She's terrific but you need both brains and some conceptual understanding of statistics to "get" this book.

Just to take an example, I have never heard anyone else explain that risk is proportional to the square root of time (or tick) interval: lower your time span, lower your risk. If that kind of thinking excites you, you're at the right place.

Highly Technical Discussion of Legal Aspects of M&A.......2007-01-10

This book provides a comprehensive description of the legal aspects of M&A. Unfortunately, the prose is quite difficult to navigate. It appears to be written primarily for those with some legal training. I have found other texts such as DePamphilis' Mergers and Acquisitions to provide a much more readable and comprehensive discussion of the topic.

Every dementia patient is different; so is every care-giver. If you happen to be anything like me, and if your demented spouse is anything like My Great Dane, this, if I may be so bold, would be my advice: Go down that slippery slope with your spouse. When he developed Alzheimer's or a similar dementia, your life changed. The more you try to hang on to normalcy, to preserve yourself and your sanity, the more likely you are to injure yourself. Go willingly. Go lovingly. Even though your spouse may not be able to appreciate your companionship on the way down, you will. When well-meaning people advised me to take time out to do those things I really enjoy, I couldn't relate. Single-minded as I am, I focused on Hal, and it was in his company that I most enjoyed myself. Perhaps that's why I survived. And now, as a tribute to Hal and to myself, I intend to take laughter and joy with me on the trip back up the hill to recovery. Thank you for sharing our experiences. .....Eve Jensen has captured in loving details the path she shared with her husband. She has written in essay form events which show great insight into the gradual deterioration of a life, a love, a man.
.....With the masterful skills of a former English teacher,
Mrs. Jensen tells about how her husband was taken
from doctor to doctor to find out the cause of his behaviors
and physical problems. He was never labeled with Alzheimer's
disease but had many of the same symptons.
.....As these steps were being taken together, she captures
daily events, personal activites, the loss of skills,
the loss of friends for her true love-Hal. The trip was
long but well documented.
.....Hal and Eve were both teachers. Hal was a music,
science, and CWE teacher. He was also a master of
several languages, had lived in the Orient and Europe
and was a fun loving Dane. At one time, they both were
employed by the Dept. of Defense Overseas Schools,
met, and married while living and teaching
in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. After retirement,
their lives were intermingled with many adventures
but the biggest, longest, and hardest of these was
the trip they shared with Hal's dementia.
