Book Description
The special issue of the Comparative Law Yearbook of International Business deals with the very topical subject of e-commerce. This is an area that has seen an explosion of interest in recent years but, since the increase in the use of the Internet as a vehicle for conducting business transactions has been so rapid, the law has again fallen behind, particularly in the areas of regulation and jurisdiction.
The situation is changing, however, with the introduction of both national and international legislation dealing with issues and relating to, inter alia, data protection, privacy, electronic signatures, consumer protection and morality. The authors in this volume provide commentaries on the most recent developments in various jurisdictions, including the approach of the European Union to the problems raised by e-commerce. They discuss the difficulties in relation to jurisdiction arising from the global nature of Internet and the possibilities for dispute resolution between multi national parties to an electronic transaction.
The topic is obviously one that will require much attention in the coming years and one which will need strict regulation if electronic commerce is destined to become the trading medium of the future.
Book Description
The audience who loves the Chicken Soup series, Life Strategies, and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People will love how Barry Maher translates the lessons of highly successful salesmanship into success in business.
For many of us, there is a disconnection between what we believe we should be doing in our careers and our lives, and what we actually find ourselves doing. In Filling the Glass: The Skeptic's Guide to Positive Thinking in Business, author Barry Maher provides ten strategies to overcome that disconnect, turning the job (and life) you have into the job (and life) you want, so that you never have to settle for half full or half empty again.
Customer Reviews:
Keeping it Real.......2004-03-21
I pick up this book because it was along others (the art of war, guerrilla marketing, negotiating to yes, what color is your parachute, 21 laws of marketing, one minute manager) in a list of top bussiness books, it talks about attitude wich is a difficult concept and it comes all right. I like the part where he talks about self confidence: most books would lay down some method, this guy tells you to earn it, that you cant fool yourself so if you want to feel better you have to make something.
Maher's glass overflows.......2003-02-14
Barry Maher has written an exceptional book, one filled to the brim with ideas on how to live up to your potetial, reach your goals, and, perhaps most important, enjoy your career. Take even a sip of his suggestions to heart, and you'll change your life.
Fill it up!.......2002-03-27
Filling the Glass : The Skeptic's Guide to Positive Thinking in Business is an excellent book. The authors holds the view that it is essential to hold a realistic view of a situation to act as a launching point for improvement. Positive thinking is useful when it is bounded by reality.
Filling the Glass makes a very useful arguments for which when looked at in aggregate amount to managing yourself, managing those you work with and managing customers. The author, Barry Maher, lays out the program I mentioned above using the following topics:
Make peace with the negatives
Fill the glass
Become your own guru
Add water
Bring out the prospect in yourself
Become an expert witness
Fail toward success
Brag out the negatives
Change the scale to make the sale
Never settle for success
The author has a thought provoking style and has some really awesome quotes. If your current self help guru has you only visualizing a full glass then Barry can help you take action to actually fill the glass.
One of the most likeable books I've read in years!.......2001-02-07
Inventive, insightful, instructive, inspiring and funny. Filling the Glass is a surprisingly effective and effecting book. One minute you're laughing out loud, the next you're nodding your head in agreement, the next you just have to pause to let a powerful point sink in. As the author acknowledges, many of the strategies are novel and few are familiar, things we know to be true but which we probably haven't really made part of our lives yet. As promised, he provides great new insights even into the familiar strategies and, more importantly, practical tips for incorporating them into your career and/or your life.
A first rate business book.. A wonderful reading experience!.......2001-01-25
Having seen Maher speak, I picked up a copy of Filling the Glass as soon as I heard about it. Reading the book is even better than hearing him in person, because it lasts longer. I couldn't recommend the book more highly. Rich practical knowledge, a world of insight, fascinating and entertaining anecdotes, it's even extremely funny. It's certainly the only business book I've ever read with a conclusion that actually brought tears to my eyes. Wonderful!

Yummy Recipes, One of the Best!.......2002-03-17
Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of "Old Fashioned Country Cookies." You are GUARANTEED to love the recipes and cute illustrations. (I recommend the Orange Iced Cranberry Cookies...Yum!) As usual, the Country Friends Vickie & JoAnn put together an excellent country cookbook chock full of Country Memories and excellent recipes for... What else.. Cookies! You can't go wrong with Gooseberry Patch. These books are pure fun and are sure to delight everyone!!!
GOOSEBERRY is the BEST!.......2000-03-23
I own several Gooseberry craft/cookbooks, and do the majority of my cooking from them. I have NEVER been disappointed with any recipe I have made. They are simply the best!
Wonderful practically, visually, and inspirationally.......1999-10-23
This is one of the most "usable" cookie cookbooks I've seen. I collect cookbooks and have a good basis for comparison. Like all the other Gooseberry Cookbooks, the style of composition makes it a fun book to use. I first bought a copy of this book several years ago and didn't really open it up and look at it. When headed to visit our daughter several states away, I was looking for something I could take to her as a gift and saw "Old Fashioned Country Cookies" on the shelf so grabbed it up and gave it to her. Sitting around her kitchen table, I finally had the time to REALLY look at its pages. I'm flipping pages and thinking..."Good grief, WHY did I give this book away...these recipes look fabulous!!" I asked her for some paper and a pen and started jotting down recipes I thought I wanted to try. That proved to be a finger-cramping adventure. I knew I just HAD to purchase another copy. Couldn't let all those gems get away. I did just that and haven't been sorry. It's wonderful to have so many good recipes in one book. It's the first one I reach for when the urge to make cookies pops into my head. I also love the country-style graphics and the hints sent in by Gooseberry readers. If I were trapped on a desert island and could only have one publishers cookbooks, I'd opt for the ones by Gooseberry Patch...they are GREAT! If you order this book, you won't be sorry. And my daughter LOVED it as a gift too!
Fabulous Cookie and Treat Book.......1999-07-29
It is so tough to find a cookie book that has more than one good recipe! This is the book! Every cookie and dessert treat I have made from this book has been a major crowd pleaser. I highly recommend this. It is especially nice as a wedding or shower gift, coupled with cookie cutters and other baking stuff. Delicious all the way around!
Book Description
More B-24s were made and flown than any other warplane in America's history. Between 1939 and 1945, 18,000+ B-24 heavy bombers received their last rivets from rosie, rolled off assembly lines, and flew to military bases around the world. A triumph of ingenious Yankee design, the B-24 was the first heavy bomber with a tricycle landing gear and sophisticated airfoil and flaps. Its greater range permitted bombing runs deep into Germany, Italy, and especially over Japanese targets in the South Pacific. This rare assemblage of wartime records, memories, photos, personal and military histories, and in-depth technical insight brings the B-24 back to life and to center stage of World War II. Written by Air Force historian and world-leading B-24 expert Frederick A. Johnsen, and based in part on his vast personal collection of B-24 lore and memorabilia, B-24 Liberator lets you: Watch as the B-24 was conceptualized, designed, and constructed through reports and photos from the manufacturer's official files; Explore the B-24's full combat history through Air Force archival records; Experience world War II training and combat in the company of the airmen who flew and serviced this mighty bomber in Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific; Share these airmen's unique memories and personal snapshots of combat in the skies and on the ground.

Customer Reviews:
Don Chance knows his Derivatives!.......2001-12-07
I am just about done with my MBA, and I have to say this is must-have book for the shelf. I read it cover to cover and now I find myself going to it for quick reference. It is really comprehensive and very thorough. The language is not the usual dense "academese," and I am most thankful to have--set forth in three short essays toward the end of the book--the differences in option pricing theory. This is the best overview on option pricing I've read yet.
An Excellent Primer on Derivatives.......1999-11-06
"Someone told me that each equation I included in the book would halve the sales," said theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking in his landmark book, A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME. "I therefore resolved not to have any equations at all." Such a philosophy seems to have been adopted by 47-year-old Don M. Chance, First Union Professor of Financial Risk Management at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. In his new book, ESSAYS IN DERIVATIVES, Chance prides himself on keeping derivatives simple. It's a "Strunk & White" approach to talking about derivatives, and it works well for him. Originally a collection of 41 easy-to-read essays that first appeared on the web under the heading, "Derivatives Research Unincorporated", the book now includes 70 essays written with only a minimal amount of mathematical equations. All of the essays, says Chance, were re-edited and purged of the informal tone they sometimes took with Internet surfers when it was only an e-book. The idea of writing a derivatives book for those who prefer words to equations (or should I say, those like myself who understand words but not equations) appears to bode well for Chance. The book is a breeze to read, but quite informative. The e-book has also grown in breadth since first appearing on the web. After all, when Chance sometimes failed to add additional essays on a regular basis to the first 20 he originally penned, a spew of phone calls and emails came from a growing cult of derivatives readers on the Internet. "I was beginning to feel like the Ann Landers of derivatives," notes Chance in the preface to his new book. Ann Landers he may be, but the book is better than just some free advice. It is solid information for the right price. And I recommend it.

Book Description
"Greed is Good." Is this the best argument to be made on behalf of human aspirations and the free market? Acquisitivity uproots the "greed is good" philosophy, showing it to be both wrong and largely irrelevent in defining human nature and the dynamics of economic progress.
The author looks behind Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations to examine the origin and purpose of human conduct in the free market. The result is a purely conceived natural mechanism centered in each individual for efficient allocation of resources to the most productive and innovative person. Society is the indirect beneficiary.
Acquistivity brings Adam Smith and The Wealth of Nations to the Twenty-First Century where the acquisitive energy of every individual can ride the Internet. The stock markets, business, education and, hopefully, governments will never be the same again.
Customer Reviews:
Read this book!.......2004-01-10
Wayne Jett's brilliant book A General Theory of Acquisitivity: On Human Nature, Productivity and Survival (Writer's Digest/iUniverse) should be read by everyone who is interested in how economics affect real life. Jett, a self-taught economist like his mentor Jude Wanniski, the architect of Reaganomics, shows how man's natural inclination to acquire underlies the principles of supply side economics. I thoroughly enjoyed Jett's thoughtful command of a wide array of issues. Read this book!

Book Description
"Offering insight into the compelling history of people with disabilities, this is one of the earliest accounts written by someone with an actual disability rather than by an observer or educator."
Library Journal
"A brief but fascinating glimpse into the role of women, religion, disability and notions of the self in early 19th-century France."
Publishers Weekly
"Both Husson's autobiographical writing and Kudlick's and Weygand's short social history of the blight of the blind in nineteenth-century France will interest anyone whose work or intellectual interests lie in the field of modern disability studies."
H-Net Reviews
In the 1820s, several years before Braille was invented, Therese-Adele Husson, a young blind woman from provincial France, wrote an audacious manifesto about her life, French society, and her hopes for the future. Through extensive research and scholarly detective work, authors Catherine Kudlick and Zina Weygand have rescued this intriguing woman and the remarkable story of her life and tragic death from obscurity, giving readers a rare look into a world recorded by an unlikely historical figure.
Reflections is one of the earliest recorded manifestations of group solidarity among people with the same disability, advocating self-sufficiency and independence on the part of blind people, encouraging education for all blind children, and exploring gender roles for both men and women. Resolutely defying the sense of "otherness" which pervades discourse about the disabled, Husson instead convinces us that that blindness offers a fresh and important perspective on both history and ourselves.
In rescuing this important historical account and recreating the life of an obscure but potent figure, Weygand and Kudlick have awakened a perspective that transcends time and which, ultimately, remaps our inherent ideas of physical sensibility
