Good General Overview.......2007-09-19

This book is required reading in a class I'm taking. I've been through several chapters at this point and one quiz. The book provides a good foundation for later business classes. It takes you step by step through various types of business structures and includes a good bit of detail about nuances that are present in each state. I am business illiterate, and I am finding this book a good primer. It is a bit dry and written from an outline, but I've read much worse. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who doesn't know much about businesses and their organization and needs a good introduction. There is not much about law or about paralegals tasks, mostly just sidebars stating that a paralegal will probably be filling out the forms and info on where to get the forms.

These are my "personal" rankings. Maximum Achievement, I thought, was Tracy's watershed book, but along comes Create Your Own Future.

There is just something about how the book is laid out and delivers chuncks of useful advice without losing your interest. It probably is the best self help book out right now. If you are new to self achievement products....This should be the first book to read and Tracy covers anything you need from sales to business building to motivation.

Rehash of "Think and Grow Rich?".......2005-11-11

Great book written with high energy and containing lots of great concepts. HOWEVER, is it just me or is this a contemporary version of Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich?"

Misleading MIT endorsement .......2005-01-20

I would like to point out to my fellow success literature readers that while this book is very good it contains a very misleading endorsement. On the back cover (which you can see in amazon) it has a raving statement from someone named Mitch Huhem, President, MIT. I was extremely impressed with a self-help book being endorsed by the president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. So, I went to the MIT site only to conclude that it never had a president named Huhem. I found out that Huhem is president of an insignificant company named MIT Financial (the word financial was conveniently ommitted from the book cover when there was plenty of space in the line to add it). Brian Tracy constantly raves about the importance of values and integrity, so I was disappointed to see that he allowed this misleading statement. As for the create your own future book, like I said it is very good although is just the information from maximum achievement recycled.

Well-deserved resurrection........2002-04-19

This small book does not pretend to be an original work, rather a compilation of accounts and stories from many sources. Written in 1859, it necessarily has that elaborate Victorian style, but is more readable than many others of the same period - which may not be to everyone's taste, but I for one found it utterly charming.

There is a wealth of detail contained here, with some mind-boggling and stomach-turning anecdotes, but one should have a good dictionary ready to hand for those common Victorian words which are obscure (not to say obsolete) nowadays:- calapash & calapee (upper and lower turtle meat); lymph (pure, clear water); maw (stomach); quintal (hundredweight); train-oil (whale-oil); rypeu (ptarmigan); phlebotomized (bled).

A subtle (but sometimes hilarious) undercurrent of humour pervades the whole book; e.g. re gelatine, "The Americans ... tried to pass off upon us isinglass made of fish bones, but it would not go down" and "the only difference between this and joiner's glue is its greater price". It is apparent that the author takes a vicarious pleasure in rooting out the more extreme and gut-wrenching descriptions of cuisine and customs from writings by various travellers in remote lands.

Overall, this is a witty, engaging collection of unusual (probably useless, but great for quizzes!) trivia that well-deserves this long-overdue resurrection.
If only Mr. Simmonds had lived long enough to complete the companion book of vegetable food curiosities...

Curiosities Of Food survey of delicacies of different nations originally appeared in London in 1859 and here charts some obscure and notable foods from around the world for new audiences. It's long been out of print, so modern cooks and food fans will delight in Peter Simmonds' blend of travelogue and observation.

Strangely Interesting.......2001-10-24

First off this book was written in 1859. Once again 1859, not 1959 or anything remotely close to us. This book is about eating different types of animals. How to eat flying lemurs, horses, and so much more. If taken from a historical perspective this can be interesting. Honestly I found this book a bit difficult to read, as they were talking about eating many endangered animals.
The printface remains from its original publishing, so you will not mistake this for a book that was written recently. The book has no illustrations, but is in text only. It is a bit interesting from an acedemic point of view.

This book is almost as good as Natenberg, and much better than McMillan, Schaffers, and Fontanills. Although it is about options on futures, most of the strategies discussed are applicable to stock options as well.

Filled with Insight, Creative, Not For Newbies.......2002-06-16

A good choice for stock option investors despite it mentioning commmodities. This book will overwhelm a beginner, who should start with Charles Caes' great "Tools of the Bear" (which works for bull and bear markets). Far superior to George Fontanills. Caplan is creative, he writes well and gives the studious reader many important tips. I made two pages of notes from this book. With even a little experience, an options investor will truly ascend to a higher level of knowledge and trading mastery with this book.

The New Option Advantage.......2000-12-28

I don't receive his newsletter, I haven't been to any of his seminars and I don't trade with his brokerage. That being said, this book is outstanding in teaching non-complicated option strategies to traders who want to receive an "Edge" in trading. I have been trading futures for 7 years now, and have recently implemented options into my toolbag of strategies. So far, I've made at least 20 times what I paid for this book. You do though, must understand the futures market first. Trying to read this book, before understanding futures in general, will leave you in a daze. In contrast, there are many books who over-do option strategies by trying to explain how they came up with different strategies by using complex mathematical solutions and explaining how these solutions can make you money. If you think your confused reading this book, wait till you read one of those kinds of books! Good Luck everyone

This book is very useful for those who are interested in trading futures and futures options. It really gives you the best strategies to use to capitalize in any market environment. If you do not have a very clear understanding of how to trade which options and at what time, this book will definately help.

Good book for option strtegist.......1999-09-30

This book is good for the readers who has a good knowing in option basic. Deep investigations in different futures markets make this book very attractive for serios option trader. But mr. Caplan does not show his methods on 100%. It is not good, because the new traders can lose money if they will follow the Dave's methods as closely as they can.

Thanks to George Caners book, I took my mutual fund money away from my agent and went from only an 8% per year return to over 100%! I bought stock in the indices, but tried two high techs and they went through the roof. The TSE index alone rose over 30% in one year.
