I love this book. I use it often for daily inspiration. I have even typed the daily thoughts, categorized by month, into Microsoft Word. I then printed & filed them in my daily planner. Reading one every morning helps focus my mind on what is important. Love the writings on personal character.

Positive motivation, day by day.......2004-06-11

A very successful person once told me to make success training a priority, to work harder on myself than I do at my job. I did just that by purchasing several of Napolean Hills books and programs, this one included.

In meditations, Hill offers us a meditation a day to take mediocrity away. That's all it takes; just one meditation per day.

This book should be read along with Think and Grow rich. Keep a copy by your nite stand in your bedroom and read one meditation per day, morning and evening and watch what it does for you!

Being Positive Always Wins the Day.......2002-12-02

This book is organized by days of the year, but I enjoyed just opening it and discovering my "message" for the day. I opened it just now and one of the affirmations was "a negative mind only spawns negative ideas." Following is a short paragraph discussing the point. The affirmations are seemingly simple, but they lead to deeper issues and consideration of how you engage your mind and how you intereact with the world because of it. It is a good precursor to my current favorite book (recently published) on "positivity" - The One Minute Guide to Prosperity and Enlightenment - which gives actual techniques on how to use your positive energy/positive attitude to achieve financial and spiritual success. I just opened the One Minute Guide to a chapter with the title - "Take Control of Your Thoughts: Everything that happens in your life depends on how you spend your thought energy. You are your thoughts." Everything is colored my our own perceptions and these affirmations and techniques reinforce and demonstrate ways in which you can continually strive to achieve a positive state of mind. Good reading!

Daily Meditations.......2001-09-28

Although I have not "completed" this book (as I haven't had it for one year (365 days); I have found it to be helpful. This book is by no means "rules to live by for a better way to live", but it gives me information to read about on a daily basis and thoughts to ponder. As it has been proven, time and time again- by reading about these things on a regular basis (and through repetition)- miraculous results will begin to occur. This is an excellent book with which to read "in combination with other books". This book helps to set the foundation to help anyone who is willing to honestly "work" to be that person they have always wanted to be. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read "daily meditations"... On another note, I am a major coffee drinker... it's real nice to sit down in the morning and have that Folgers "wake me up", but it's even better to read these daily meditations and have it "really open my eyes"!

This is pitiful.......2005-12-12

I never write in reviews but this is the worst cookbook I've ever bought. We probably have 40 or 50.

There are only 101 recipes and 7 of them are for either rabbit or venison. I don't know anyone who cooks either. The index in the back is listed in page order. I'm not making this up. Usually you turn to the back and look up beef or chicken or whatever and it shows you the recipes for that ingredient. When you look at the index here it gives the name of the recipe on the first page and then the 2nd page.

Don't buy this! I'd give it a zero if I could.

I saw this cookbook and knew it was for me. I start my meal before I go to work and it can cook all day while I am gone. When I come home the dinner is done and not allot of dishes after we eat to clean up.

Can a $10,000 investment yield $1,000,000 in a year? In five years? If so, what is the risk involved?

These are the kinds of questions to which this work is addressed. Such fantastic results are possible in the stock market. Individual issues fluctuate widely enough and often enough to permit this and more. Techniques are presented here that put an average yield on invested capital of 10% per month, well within the realm of possibility. Compounding profits at this rate, such a yield can return $1,000,000 on a $10,000 investment within 50 months.

An actual trading experiment will be described using these principles which produced an 8.9% yield per transaction--every 9.7 days. Such a yield, if continued, compounds $10,000 to $1,000,000 in 15 months. If such results can be attained in the market -- why isn't everyone doing it?

The answer is complex, but the elements are simple: effort, knowledge and psychological barriers. Any goal this worthwhile requires time and effort. Most investors, amateur and professional do not have the kind of analytical background needed to shear through rumor, opinion, and adage to get at the basis of why stock prices change. And finally, even with knowledge in hand, many investors lack training in the emotion-logic balance required for success.

Nevertheless, all of these obstacles can be overcome. It is the purpose of this book to provide you with the essentials. The results are yours if you care to apply yourself with sufficient intensity. Investment operations will be presented here in a deliberately unorthodox manner. We will turn our backs firmly on all cliches, adages, and market lore that will not withstand critical scrutiny. Where necessary, we will not hesitate to form new ones that do fit the facts.

You will find here that the big money in investing stems from the principle of "profit compounding:---of short-term trades. It is further shown that this potential cannot be exploited in an optimum manner without a large improvement in transaction-timing capability that cannot be achieved using tradional investment methods.

You will be exposed to: a concept of profit maximization; a model of stock price motion with prediction implications; an explanation of why chart patterns form---and how to use this knowledge to your profit; step-by-step methods for using the price-motion model to generate definite "wait," "buy," "hold," "sell," "sell short," "cover short," and "protect profit" signals; an explanation of why moving averages work and how to design your own for use in transaction timing; a complete trading method: how to select issues, how to analyze them for action signals, and how to improve your chances of turning and keeping a profit; the extent to which you should be concerned by chance factors, whether or not you should sell in case of war or financial crisis; the reasons why psychological considerations can affect your profits and what you can do about it; an introduction to numerical analysis and spectral analysis, upon which the results on the book are based.

The problems of trading techniques and methods are dealt with directly. Enough methods and references are included to permit further research if desired.

The queston pertains to page 61. At the top of the page it says; 13.9 week cycle is 7.4 weeks along -hard down, 4.6 week cycle is 3.6 weeks along hard down. How is the conclusion reached that these are hard down and the triangle at the top of figure III-9 will perform a downside breakout. I'm really scratching my head on this one. Must read for those who want to develop a TA system!.......2004-07-06

i'm glad that most who reviewed it here got it! it is a little mathematically beefy. even if you can't grasp the heavy math of the last chapters, the layman can benefit from the graphical buy/sell/hold signals and easy offset moving average methodology. while this book doesn't provide the holy grail, it gives you "willie wonka's golden ticket" into the wall street candy factory...

It works.......2004-06-08

Reading this book gave me a real understanding of the stock market movement. Now, I look at indicators, patterns, etc. with a different pair of eyes. The book explains convicingly that stock market moves in cycles. I am now using it successfully in my trading. With it, I have the ability to estimate market tops and bottoms frequently. My analysis for Nasdaq is posted in http://www.geocities.com/zentex3/ if you want to see evidence of me putting this into practice. Overall, the book is enjoyable read. The mathematics can be difficult but I do not use Fourier Analysis or any advanced maths to put his method into practice. In fact, I actually used very basic maths and put it in my excel spreadsheet and the envelopes are plotted automatically. I just turned the logic he uses for visual analysis into basic rules.

This is a break through book.......2003-12-17

Many people still don't understand what J.M. did. They compare it to already beaten channel analysis or Moving average analysis. It isn't what Hurst used, it is how and why he used it is important. Hurst was the first to point the relation of proportionality of time/price swings with the periodicity of indicators as well as synchronicity of time cycles and he laid out mathematical foundation for computerized measurements. This requires some technical/programming skill and what's more important good sense of proportion.
But even you are a good programmer, but without good sense of proportion you'll go in circles and don't get it (I met many rocket scientists like that). So first of all you should be good observer of life with some mathematical skill to fully comprehend what J.M. Hurst introduced. His statement of 90% success isn't an exaggeration; it is rather conservative estimation assuming human error. His methods have potential to be 100%.
(And even you aren't a programmer, but understand Hurst ideas, you can tweak existing charting package to do the job for you, that would take some time, but possible)
What he discovered in stock analysis is comparable to a perpetual motion in physics.
After completing his work J.M. mysteriously disappeared. No he isn't dead, rather silenced. This book is already out of print and I wouldn't be surprised if it disappears again. Remember Wall Street doesn't want you to win; they reserve this right for themselves...

A classic.......2003-07-07

Nicely written, but unfortunately becoming dated. Cycles are almost common knowledge now, with the new wave of time based traders off Fibonacci. Also, MA envelopes and other variations of bands are incredibly popular now. I think his real edge is the length of time of the cycles. Most people will not have the patience to wait months for a setup and then hold on to the trade for several more months. That allows the longer cycles to go the course, while letting the shorter traders fight over the smaller wiggles. The claims of 90% winning trades is also questionable, but when you do catch the relative cycle high or low.. it sure does look brilliant.

wonderful and inspiring true story.......2006-03-08

Lena was born without arms, and with one of her legs severely deformed. In this book she tells the story of her life. Lena could have easily become bitter and angry, but instead she has maintained a positive, courageous, and upbeat attitude. Even in her baby and early childhood photos, you can see that she radiates happiness. She had a very supportive family. Her dad said after she was born, "Arms or no arms, she needs a home anyways!" (Some felt she should be institutionalized.) They made every effort to give her a "normal" life and help her be independent.

Despite her severe disability, Lena has accomplished much in life. She has learned to function very independently - it is absolutely incredible what she can do with her one good foot!!! She was an accomplished swimmer when she was younger, and also a talented singer. She continues to travel the world singing and sharing her testimony. Lena has a strong and vibrant Christian faith. Some might have rejected their faith/beliefs in the face of such problems. But Lena believes that God makes no mistakes, and that her life is a part of God's special plan for her. In many ways, her disability has given her unique opportunities in life.

This book is an "easy read" - I read it in just a couple hours. It left me feeling inspired, encouraged, hopeful, and thankful! I have no right to complain - I have two arms and two legs!

Power through a simple story.......2004-12-23

This delightful little book is the story of a famous singer and world record-breaking swimmer. She tells of her life with refreshing sparkle, so much so that I had to constantly remind myself that this woman was born without arms. Unpretentious, simple and direct are words that spring to mind when describing this tale.

Her passionate desire is that all people should have the same joy, and she shares several keys to living a happy life in spite of obstacles. The central point is her vibrant faith in God.

One shortcoming of the book is that the editing is not always up to scratch. That said, the book is easy to read, and is a pleasure on the eye. The photographs beautifuly supplement the text.

When I finished the book, I wanted more. I wished to have a fuller account of people and times.

But the aim of the book is not to tell a history, but to inspire others. And in this regard it succeeds completely.
