Book Description
Drawing on many years of work in the field since the original publication of the book, Chandler has added numerous new stories, quotes, insights and recommendations on how to transform yourself from a fictional, limited, old personality to a fresh level of creative action. "It is a dream come true," says Chandler, "to have been given the chance by Career Press to reinvent Reinventing Yourself. I'll let the reader be the judge as to whether I succeeded at my mission of taking this book from good to great." "Reinventing Yourself is written forcefully, but with great humor, There won't be many books in the coming years that are met with as much enthusiasm as this book." -Colin Wilson, author of The Outsider and Alien Dawn "If you want a book that develops your hidden potential, look no further. Steve Chandler's Reinventing Yourself is it!" -Danny Cox, author of Seize the Day and There are No Limits :"If you put together the best of Anthony Robbins, Mark McCormack and Wayne Dyer, what you would have would be almost as good as Steve Chandler." -Dale Dauten, King Features Syndicate
Download Description
Steve Chandler opens this powerful book with the image of a cocoon. The cocoon of personality. The cocoon that traps us into negative or limited thinking about who we are and what we can become. Steve then gives us a choice: Either we can continue to think of ourselves as victims, or we can take ownership of our lives and extend our possibilities in limitless directions. Think of Elvis Presley, and how he just didn't sing the song, he owned it, poured his spirit into it. Or Michael Jordan, not just playing basketball, but defining his inner self as he soars to the basket. Within each of us is an inspiration - a spark of insight about the person we were meant to be. Reinventing yourself helps us to name that vision...to call it ours and to begin to make it happen. This eBook edition contains the complete 219 page text of the original hardcover editon.

Reinventing Yourself.......2007-10-20
As individuals we may have issues that have developed over the years that affect our lives, sometimes in negative ways, and that we may not be aware of. This book is clear, concise, and very helpful in moving ourselves forward into a time & place that are both satisfying and fulfilling.
Beware of HAMILTONBOOKS audio cassette !.......2007-04-23
For anyone interested in purchasing this audio book, please be advised that I've recieved not just One but TWO damaged versions of "Reinvent Yourself" and have given up. I will probably buy the book from the local bookstore. I don't think it's HamiltonBooks fault, but they must have some sketchy products in their inventory, you never know what you'll get. Maybe that's why this item is sold by them for the low price of $3.95 plus shipping. Just a warning...
So completely practical........2007-03-05
This guy is awesome. So practical, so direct. No condescension, no preaching. Zero chaff. 100% content.
One (actual) example. I just pour out some hurt to my GF about my job. One client who is such a problem that if one our guys so much as *annoys* her, she could get a contract canceled that would get 4 of our guys laid off. An impossible to please person with a lot of power.
So I tell my GF. Cold person that she can be, she automatically *defends* this person, saying that we're just miffed that she has the power. Now, I'm thinking about the 4 families that would be knocked right out if this goes down (including mine), so I'm appalled that this is the first thing that comes out of her mouth (you know, before "gee hon, I'm sorry" or "why would anyone be that way?")
So as soon as she lets me out of the room, I go into the next room, and decide to try to somehow rise above this.
I pop in CD2 of this series, and I just want to *feel* angry, hurt, justified, etc. Well, Chandler won't let me, and he explains convincingly how are "aren't" (i.e., can't *identify* completely with) our feelings any more than we "are" a banged knee (and the pain associated with that), and why. He's 100% dead on. Now if he was in any way preachy, I'd have the opportunity to feel guilt, or get defensive (and thus avoid action). Not possible. He is so clear, and so right-on. I'm not feeling convicted. I am redirected. So uncommon.
So I go right back in the bedroom (why should *I* sleep on the couch?), stick some pillows between us, and get the night's sleep I need to face the week ahead (and the pending situation).
The girlfriend? Time to weigh my options. I have choices. We always do.
The book/audio? I highly recommend it.
Worth Listening To..........2006-09-18
Ok, so the audio version would maybe have been more lyrical if Steve had a different person read it, like someone with passion in their voice. (I still love ya Steve!) However, I do like books read to me by the author, since it is their wisdom they are sharing.
This audio series really woke me up again, like many of Steve's books. I sadly related myself to the "victim" mentality. When Steve gives examples of how "victims" handle situations, he was honestly reading my mind. It really got my attention.
Then he describes how "owners" think. Being a small business owner and wanting to succeed, I really had to stop and listen. I was shocked to hear how owners think in their heads. I then realized I had a choice; do I want to think like an 'owner' or a 'victim'?
Other points throughout the series really made me stand up and think. He describes a scene on the Today show where Matt Lauer is trying to get a row out of Tiger Woods' father, Earl Woods, after hearing a negative comment from Fuzzy Zoeller. Earl never, ever is offended by the comments. He puts it back on Fuzzy, saying that Fuzzy has the problem. Victims are offended everyday, while Owners see that others have the problem. Wow!
If you truly want to change and get out of your victim mode and change your life, this is a valuable asset that is worth every penny. I like audio versions because I can listen to them over and over again, especially riding around in the car, which I have to do anyway. It's a valueable time where I can change my thinking and therefore change my life.
Thanks Steve!

Absolutely LOVED IT!!!!.......2006-08-24
I'm now on my second read of this book. The first read was on an airplane and I feared my pen would run out of ink b/c I was underlining so much! I've read over 100 self help/motivational books, thinking that if I even get one great idea out of them it will have been worth it. But *this* book... I know that this book will/has absolutely change my thinking, which will in turn, absolutely change my life! Buy this book, don't even hesitate.

Many Thanks for this Great Book!.......2006-07-25
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for Reader Views (7/06)
Julia Pitkin, Karen Grant and George Grant, combined their talents to create this one of a kind cookbook. There are four divisions in this book, one representing each season. Each season is divided into special occasions; each occasion has appropriate table graces and menus, with recipes for each menu. It is the best of many cultures and their many holidays the authors remind us of what the term "fine dining" truly means.
Currently I'm assisting my future daughter-in-law in planning her wedding reception. This book has been extremely helpful. The Cucumber Mint Butter Sandwiches will definitely be on the menu, as will several other recipes.
Several of the recipes took me down memory lane. The Old Fashioned Lemonade reminded me of summers at my grandmother's. She'd gather the whole family together for a reunion. There would always be homemade banana ice cream and lemonade made with real lemons. The Roast Chicken with rosemary, thyme, oregano and other spices brought back the memories of dinners with a favorite aunt. I can still recall the smell of roasting chicken greeting me when entering her home.
We live in a hurry up world, where we look for the fastest way of completing everything and anything. Rarely do we realize that we've lost much. We no longer have the taste of real lemons; instead we open a can, measure out powder and add water. Rarely do we take time to make our own bread, it's easier to open a can or a bag. But the feel of kneading bread relieves stress and homemade bread always tastes better.
The menus and recipes in this book are good. But this book is so much more. This book is about elegant dining. I picture white table linens and silver candleholders. I picture families sitting down together to enjoy the meal. I send many thanks to the authors for creating this great book.

Customer Reviews:
The best book I've read about trading system design and development.......2007-07-13
The book is well written and easy to read. I have learned a great deal from it. So far, it is the best book I've read about trading system design and development. I recommend it to anybody who is serious about trading systems.
A good introduction to trading system development.......2007-02-04
Let me state my biases up front. I've always been rather suspicious of so-called "mechanical" trading strategies, although I'm a strong supporter of a technical approach to the market.
Technical analysis, for me, has always been about individual market participants, as a group, are likely to respond to price action to further their interest for profits, or to conserve capital. Market players are not mindless robots who are as predictable as coin flips, but people pursuing goals, and who learn from history. How the market reacts to news and fundamental info is extremely important from this point of view.
While there are things that can be learned from looking at price action, any algorithm that can extract profits from markets is likely to be short lived. With the advent of cheap, powerful computers, it is all too easy to "test" a system on historical data, only to have it fail in real time. Proper system testing is difficult to do.
Even if testing is done properly, it is likely to have been found by a significant number of smart, well-capitalized people long before you or I ever came onto the scene, making historical test results misleading, possibly unprofitable.
The fact is, markets change, and the context of price action in the past may be totally different to the current market environment. How do market systems account for market change, while still producing valid results?
This book allayed some of my fears. Since system testing IS hard to do, it is unlikely that a significant percentage of people will discover the signals of a profitable system, making the method unprofitable.
Even a skeptic such as myself will admit that proper historical testing can, at the very least, encourage thought about future market conditions, and prepare for various scenarios.
Most important (to me), system testing provides a reasonable method for adapting to changing markets. As new data comes in, the model can, and should, change.
This book teaches you how to do proper system testing, so you can have confidence in your results.
I deduct 1 star from the emphasis on the use of a frequentist statistical methodology. It is becoming clear in economics that talk of "long run frequencies" makes little sense for historical events that occur in a particular place, or a particular time, and are not likely to be repeated.
The use of Bayesian methods based on a subjective interpretation of probability (ie. degrees of belief), are growing in usage, and can provide more appropriate answers to certain questions that the "frequentist" methods do not.
For experienced technicians, I can recommend it.
Classic book for trading systems.......2006-11-08
Very well written (simple English) that help to organize thoughts of trading. and it help to improve your level of thinking about trading in general. little book, but very useful.
Boring.......2006-05-01
I agree in part with the reviewer that has given 1 star to this book. I have not finished this book yet, and in fact I bought this book because of the numerous 5 stars reviews.
Many definitions appear only after they are mentioned in the text, so that perhaps you need to read and reread for this book to be useful.
Worst Book I've Ever Read On The Topic.......2005-04-19
I have never written a comment about a book, but hopefully other people will at least be warned. This is the one of the worst books I've ever read. I have read several Wiley books; most of them are poorly written and lacking substance. This one is unbelievably bad.
This book deserves a negative five stars. (Who wrote those other reviews?)
If you have never read a book on trading systems, then this book is may tell you something. Otherwise, save your money. There's nothing here.

One day Robert Miles showed up on The Motley Fool's discussion boards as "simpleinvestor" and began a series of posts entitled "101 Reasons to Own Berkshire Hathaway." The result: 101 Reasons to Own the World's Greatest Investment. If you've ever considered buying shares of BRK.A or BRK.B, then definitely buy this book. If not, then you might want to consider getting a copy anyway, as Miles clearly demonstrates why Berkshire Hathaway is one of the best investments going. --Harry C. Edwards
Book Description
Discover why the model-investment-firm-turned-household-word is the perfect investment--for virtually anyone
Robert Miles is a successful entrepreneur, business owner, and investor who believes that everyone can be a smarter investor regardless of background, education, and income. In fact Miles says that one investment is ideal for virtually everyone to own--Berkshire-Hathaway. Miles has attended the annual shareholders meeting for years, has met Warren Buffett, and is considered a company "insider" and Berkshire-Hathaway expert. In 101 Reasons to Own the World's Greatest Investment, Miles offers his insights into what makes Berkshire-Hathaway so profitable and why shareholders get such value for owning the stock. Among his explanations: Berkshire-Hathaway is run sensibly and frugally by Buffett--there are no lavish corporate head-quarters or extravagant spending by company executives. The company invests in companies it determines will produce steady profits for the shareholders rather than those companies with a history of erratic performance. This accessible, well-researched look at the leading company's investment strategy has received an "unofficial" endorsement by Buffett himself.
Robert P. Miles (Tampa, FL) is an entrepreneur and owns a small business. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Business School, has been an active shareholder of Berkshire-Hathaway for a number of years, and is frequently asked to speak to other investor groups about Buffett.

Reason 102: buy 101 and invest with confidence.......2002-04-24
I just finished reading the 101 Reasons for owning Berkshire Hathaway book and found it very educational, enlightening, and exciting. Congratulations to Robert P. Miles on this outstanding contribution to our investment education and the clever way he made his points and presentation. I wish I had known its contents and wise counsel 30 years ago!
Highly Recommended!.......2002-01-30
Investor Robert P. Miles tells you everything you ever wanted to know about Warren Buffett's legendary Berkshire Hathaway. The company's plain-living, financial wizard of a chairman dominates this inventive and informative inside tour. The format - a listing of 101 reasons to own the stock - enables Miles to deliver a massive amount of information. Each entry is straightforward, packed with plenty of supportive data and a lively read. We from [...] recommend this book to investors and to anyone who'd like to know more about Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway, the only stock that comes with an owner's manual.
Investment for Idiots.......2001-11-29
(...) This is a loathesome. disagreeable book to anyone with even a smidgen of investment knowledge. Warren Buffet should be ashamed. I felt I was reading an Amway treatise with "Berkshire Hathaway" substituted for "Amway". I can't tell you how many times I read the phrase "til death do you part". I got news for all you people investing in the market - that's just the way to get really burned. This isn't a marriage, it's a business decision, one that should be constantly reevaluated. And if you're going to hold it forever, and never sell, then yes, of course, you needn't ever think about it again. It might as well be a priceless family heirloom , not for sale at any price. This book just made me plain angry. I was looking to actually learn something about Warren Buffet and Berkshire Hathway; instead all I ever learned about was Miles' undying devotion, and unquestioning mindset. It does have a good list of investment web sites. Not worth the price of the book, however.
Barnum was right!.......2001-11-27
Robert P. Miles, aka simple investor, has written the worst book about Warren Buffett imaginable. I read all this when it first appeared on the Berkshire Chatter Board & was appalled at the following he developed. I bought his book becase I am always interested in disasters. Mr. Miles may be the nicest man in the world but he is without doubt the worst writer. The great thing about America is anybody can be anything: Mr. Miles wanted to be a writer & he is: yes indeed, Mr. Barnum was right! I wish the rating system went to minus 5. The worst thing is, now Mr. Miles has written a second book & I must buy it to see if he remains the world's worst writer. Sincerely, Mike
Read the Book/Bought the Stock.......2001-07-10
Enjoyed this book and came to the conclusion that I had to buy the stock. Looking for a safe, value investment for the long term and his book explained clearly why you should buy Bershire Hathaway stock instead of a mutual fund. Preordered the author's next book on Warren Buffett.

Book Description
This book is a comprehensive and fully up-to-date account of what it means to try to quantify health in distributing resources for health care. It offers an elegant new approach to comparing the costs and benefits of medical interventions. Erik Nord questions Cost-Utility Analysis (CUA) and the feasibility of measuring patients' quality of life meaningfully in numerical terms. He presents an alternative approach called cost-value analysis in which representative samples of the general public express preferences among different health-care programs. This will be a book of particular interest to medical ethicists, health-care professionals and administrators, and economists specializing in health-care economics.

Book Description
This timely and topical book explores whether there is a place for ethics in the field of health care management and, if so, what this place is. Bringing together diverse views and including three international case studies, Ethics and Values in Health Care Management presents the debate between those who think that ethics should occupy a central place in health care management and those who deny that constructing an ethic for health care managers is a feasible project. Among the topics discussed are health care rationing, an analysis of how managers can be preoccupied with the goals of management and the values of doctors simultaneously, an outline of potential guidelines towards formulating a cohesion of health care management and ethical management, and a reassessment of the role of health care professionals. Ethics and Values in Health Care Management provides a much-needed analysis of subject and offers solutions towards improving health care organizations.

Book Description
Health care delivery has become institutionalized. As a result, health care organizations now have the power to determine who has access to what kind of health care and under what circumstances. They shape as well the ethics of the various health care professions. These developments have provoked controversies about what kind of obligations such health care organizations have to patients, caregivers, and society at large. In order to respond to these controversies, an account of health care organizational ethics has become necessary.
The essays in this volume:
-are drawn from an interdisciplinary group of leading scholars in this growing field;
-address the nature of health care organizational ethics, including such issues as corporate fraud and institutional moral integrity;
-cover the broad range of issues that must be addressed for a coherent discussion of organizational moral responsibility;
-cover the range of theoretical and practical issues like no other volume;
-are of interest to researchers, students and professionals working in the fields of bioethics, health care administration and management, organizational science, and business ethics.

President Nixon: Alone in the White House
ASIN: 0813122740 |
Book Description
One of the most controversial chief executives in American history, Richard M. Nixon remains an enigma even thirty years after his resignation. Loved by some and hated by others, Nixon's life is synonymous with a spectacular fall from power. Of the many portraits of this complex man by friends and foes alike, none have been more intimate or revealing than this memoir from his personal physician, friend, and confidante of more than forty years, John C. Lungren, M.D.
Dr. Lungren, with his son and co-author John C. Lungren Jr., portrays Nixon as a paradoxical manintense, compassionate, guarded, intelligent, resilient, deeply religious, enormously successful but ultimately tragic. Lungren describes his battle to restore the president's health after his resignation and reveals previously unknown details about Nixon's two intensive hospitalizations, his near fatal vascular collapse, and his depression. Lungren experienced firsthand Nixon's thoughts and feelings during the public scrutiny of federal prosecution for his role in the Watergate break-in. Accused of shielding his friend, Lungren himself came under fire; his private office was even burgled in an apparent attempt to copy Nixon's private medical records.
Using previously unpublished sources, original correspondence, and private photographs, Healing Richard Nixon places Nixon in an entirely new light. It provides invaluable insight into Nixon's psyche, and no future research or conclusions about Nixonthe man or the presidentwill be complete without consulting this fascinating memoir.

My thoughts.......2003-12-15
This is a wonderfully well-written book that gives the reader an insightful look into the post-resignation life of RMN. The unique perspective that only Nixon's personal doctor could provide is refreshing and makes for a very interesting read.
Nixon's true medical history.......2003-10-16
It is truly remarkable to be able to find a credible source that examines Richard Nixon's true medical history. With so much garbage being proliferated by sensationalistic journalists, such as Anthony Summers, it is nice to hear from Nixon's own personal physician. Obviously, since Nixon has been dead since 1994, the author had nothing to hide and introduces historians and scholars to Nixon's health. A must read, first hand account that is a valuable asset to historians.
My Thoughts on "A Doctor's Memoir".......2003-09-19
I recently read "Healing Richard Nixon", I found it to be factually flawed and written in a dull and redundant manner. The book implied on several occasions that Richard Nixon was unable to make decisions as a result of his overbearing and controlling Cheif-of-Staff,H.R.Haldeman. It should be perfectly clear to anyone who has ever researched Richard Nixon that he (Nixon) was always capeable of making his own decisions. Haldeman was not the driving force of Nixons insecurities, but was only an asset to the preexisting problem. If you are looking for an accurate portrayal of Nixon, you should look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a poorly written fictional novel, this is the book for you.

A story of Love, Faith and Hope.......2002-11-15
Dorothy's book, Passage Into Paradise, is a beautifully written story of her courage, fortitude, deep faith and unconditional love for her mother as she cared for her. This is a must read book for all caregivers as she expresses all of her feelings and thoughts throughout the years she cared for her mother. Her deep faith in God will give a renewed courage to all who read it and discover that Light truly does come in the morning! If you are looking for truth, faith that God is with you for every step and hope .... this is a must read! I met Dorothy through the internet when I was also caring for my mother, and her wisdom, faith and love reached out and touched my soul while giving me courage to go on. Her book can do the same for you!
A Caregiving Hero.......2002-10-31
You may have enjoyed Dorothy Womack's poetry in her Reflections on Marsha Penington's Alzheimer's Outreach, at A Window on My Mind, and in Alzheimer's Poetry at A Year to Remember. Now published as a book, her experience as her mother's caregiver is shared in Passage into Paradise. I was amazed as I read her story, which began years before mine, and continued several months after my mother died. I do not think I could have handled caring for my mother as Dorothy and her husband did. Long after her mother became bedridden and incontinent, still they cared for her at home. Dorothy's honesty in this book, expressing all the emotional turmoil she was going through, combined with her strong faith shining through, make this a story we become caught up in. I found I just had to read it all at one sitting, and it is a story that I will want to read again and again.
