Book Description
Ultimate handbook on the South Africa Export-Import and Trade Laws and Regulations. Government programs, investment and business opportunities.
Book Description
From breaking the ice at a business seminar, to hosting a successful cocktail party, Power Schmoozing is packed with extremely useful techniques and real world information about how to talk to people, what to say, and how to keep in touch with them to cultivate productive long-term business relationships. It's for every business person who wants to move through the world a little more fearlessly, a little more freely, and with a lot more confidence. It shows how to overcome the fear and imtimidation associated with unfamiliar social situations, take on a room full of strangers--in any business or social setting--and emerge with contacts, even friends, host a successful party or event, and observe the rules for dating someone at work.
Customer Reviews:
This book can change your outlook on life!.......2000-04-18
I bought this book a few years ago, and find myself going back to freshen up with it every few months. Power Schmoozing is still an interesting read. Terri Mandell's book provides excellent insight into the art of socializing amongst people, including social etiquette rules for "the game" of everyday life. It has changed how I perceive and interact with others, at least somewhat. Applying some of the techniques can recover what would otherwise be an akward moment of personal disaster into a memorable and often endearing episode. I had once thought that I was the only person that felt like a bit of an outsider around new people, until I discovered that everybody else has the same problem with 'breaking-the-ice' too! I have in the past recommended this book to others. If you are somewhat withdrawn, a social pessimist, or a bit low on confidence, this book could change your life!
As a student, I find that offering to help out at the registration desk at a conference has worked exceedingly well. I was able to get free admission to two separate full-day conferences for me within the last 2 weeks, and the opportunities to network with potential employers at the conference is even better. In its advice and content, Power Schmoozing has returned many times my original investment.
Find the courage within yourself to go forth boldly and truthfully... and have fun out there!
THIS BOOK COULD CHANGE YOUR SOCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE.......2000-01-15
The techniques are brash and a bit scary. But you know what? I tried it, and it really works! I was mortified at first about being so bold until I just bit the bullet and used some of Mandell's ideas. Suddenly I'm the center of attention. My instinct was to panic and say, "Yeah, NEGATIVE attention..." But when I realized my social calendar was filling up and my morning call lists were getting shorter (because people were actually calling me instead), I knew I was onto something. And it gets easier with time. I think my personality has really opened up in the process, I feel much more confident, and socially at ease wherever I go. In control of a room rather than the room being in control of me. Bottom line... no guts, no glory. You've gotta really want it to make it work. My guess is the majority of people are probably too timid to even give these techniques a try. I've heard Mandell does great seminars on "Power Schmoozing" as well.
Thanks, but no thanks........1999-07-13
I read parts of her book. One of the things she recommends is that if you can't afford to pay for a social event, to sneak in!?!?!? Thanks, but NO THANKS!!!!! Perhaps I'm too honest, but I got a problem with that technique. The consequences of getting caught and the damage to your reputation would far outweigh any benefit.
Too heavy-handed........1999-02-08
I found the author's treatment of schmoozing to be very serious and heavy. If someone were to try her techniques, I am quite sure most people would be turned off. Schmoozing, as I understand it, is a process whereby both parties can benefit. Mandell's approach is very self serving.
Good, but better guides available.......1998-11-29
For example, I found the "Vault Reports Guide to Schmoozing" to be more current, more interesting, and more informative.
Product Description
Our popular waffle book now includes recipes for the current rage, the pizzelle–that crisp, cookie-like cousin of the waffle. Make pizzelles on a waffle-type iron and serve them flat, rolled, stacked or filled. More than 100 recipes for waffle batters and toppings, and pizzelle recipes with and without fillings are found here.
Customer Reviews:
Lots of hard to find reciepes.......2007-08-28
This has lots of hard to find pizzelle receipes, plus lots of fillings. I don't make waffles, but the pizzelle reciepes are worth buying the book.
$8.95 for more choices than Dorie Greenspan's waffle book.......2007-06-15
I already own Dorie Greenspan's waffle book but this has more recipes and I just got a waffle cone maker so this felt like a worthwhile purchase.
Too many choices, all so tasty!.......2006-09-20
Plan what you want to make before hand for you could get stuck for quite some time just trying to decide which of the tasty recipes to follow! This book, as those who have tried the Nitty Gritty books will know, is packed with recipes and variations on the classic, now somewhat boring, breakfast staple. On top of that, there are numerous pizzelle recipes (similar to a waffle cone for those that don't know), which I have not found in abundance anywhere else. There are also lots of recipes for toppings and syrups for the waffles and fillings for the pizzelles so you are not just left with plain old Mrs. Butterworth's! Great addition for anyone who loves breakfast foods and wants to expand from the package mixes!*** I have to add that we are now in love with the eggnog waffles! Sounds odd but they are totally good!

completely useless?.......2003-12-01
There is an old joke about a guy who wakes up in a car in the middle of a field and has no idea where he is or how he got there. He flags down the first guy he sees and asks him where he is, to which he replies, "you are sitting in a car in the middle of a field". Our lost friend replies, "you must be an accountant, because while everything you say is totally accurate, it is completely useless".
This 600-plus page book is written like a sterile academic textbook for a course devoid of any real world knowledge or experience. Ironically, the author states that the book evolved as a result of a course he teaches.
It is stated that the author was a floor trader with many years experience on a Wall Street futures exchange (been there, done that). If this is in fact true, there is not a single anecdote about his own trading experiences in the entire book, at least what I read of it. What we would be interested in is a chronicle of how the author achieved competency and his experiences on the road to trading success, if in fact he achieved this. Did he have a successful trader as a mentor? How long did he lose money as a trader before achieving success? What were some of his significant breakthroughs as a trader? Did he have a "trading epiphany"? What were the major mistakes he saw traders make who ultimately failed? What is his greatest advice for new traders?
Unfortunately, we will never know the answer to these questions, because this author completely missed the point in writing a book on trading.
3 to 4 pages to everything in trading, really everything.......2003-08-10
There are 33 chapters in this 639 page book which practically put everything you can think of about trading or investment into it. Technical Analysis, Fundamental Analysis, Trading Psychology, Options, Commodities... simply everything. The problem is: dont know whether it's the intent of the author to give so general an idea of everything to its readers or he is too agressive to encompass so much in one single book. He just used a page or two to describe very complicated items like MACD, Stochastics, Gann Fan, Fibonnaci numbers, Bonds, Computer Trading, Crude Oil, Platinum, Gamma, Theta, Rho, Delta Neutral Trading........
In case you just want to have a close to nothing idea of the highly complicated trading or investment market, it's for you. In case you read in order to earn an edge to profit in market where 90% to 95% of the participants are doomed to fail, forget about this.
Excellent book.......2002-06-19
Robert Rotella captures the essence of trading psychology. This book is a must read for all investors - regardless of timeframe, experience, or markets traded. I rank it in the top five trading books I've ever read.
Like getting a university degree in financial engineering.......1998-08-16
This book touches all aspects of investing. The author describes the different markets; the stock market, natural resources, foods, interest rates, options, etc. The author describes technical as well as fundamental analysis and helps you develop the mindset which is necessary to be a successful trader. After reading this book, you'll feel like you've earned a university degree in financial engineering. I expected the price of this book to be a lot higher.
A good book for those who want to study all market aspects.......1998-07-01
The book with information about every element of market, but there is not too much information about specific of trading. It is a common instrument for learning of trading. You must read it if you look for a complex knowlege about exchanges and markets at all.

A fascinating history... --Kirkus Reviews ...an acidly witty guide. --Wall Street Journal
Customer Reviews:
The Role of Taxes over the Centuries.......2006-08-23
This book is a "must read" for those who want to understand how taxes have altered the rise and fall of civilizations over the centuries. The author makes the complexites of taxes and economic policies understandable and how they affect modern civilization.
Provides a broad overview of taxation in various societies over the centuries.......2005-09-26
This is a very interesting book that will probably give you a better understanding of the ways in which taxation has been used in the past. As in our time, the purposes have been to raise revenue for the government, but they were also used for other purposes. They were used to keep a given people in servitude to another, to shape social policy, to control markets, and so on.
The title of the book notes that taxes can be used for good and for evil. When used judiciously, the public can benefit from our shared contribution to certain good projects. What those are depends on what a given society values, and that is why democratically elected governments and therefore democratically controlled taxation are of real benefit. Unfortunately, we are moving away from such taxes to certain kinds of indirect fees and countless other hidden taxes. These have always ended up badly for a society, as they likely will for us.
However, being a republic, if we become educated about these things and demand our government sweep things clean, we can force it done. We should become more educated about these things and exert more control over government expenditures and on the way revenues are raised to cover them.
This is not a perfect book. Some of the anecdotes are told a bit glibly and others are shaded a bit to make a point. However, you will get the idea. Just don't run out and think that what you read here is settled historical fact. There are often subtleties that are left out in order to make a stronger point. Even with this caveat, this is still a useful book for everyone to read.
A must read for every citizen.......2002-09-12
It's unfortunate that so many American citizens are guilty of imposing willful ignorance upon themselves, otherwise our political leaders would be subject to a tighter leash. Charles Adams wrote this most informative book in the early 1990's and it has resonated with me ever since. He covers the history of taxation from the time of the first recording of history. Indeed the Rosetta stone was a tax document, and like the rest of the book it's a follow-the-money theory of history.
As Adams points out, figurative "mafia families", who have always run countries, have managed to compensate their armies by taxing the productive capacity of their subjects. Adam's central theme is that governments who overtax their citizens are nearly always "hoisted on their own petard." He cites ancient Greece, Rome, indeed governments from all over the world. His end game is to warn America's political elite that they've gone too far in a game where all great cultures have collapsed from within i.e. rotted at their moral core. And, he's right!
This book has many pages of cites and a long bibliography. It's a bit repetitious to read as he covers so many examples to make his point, but it's well worth the attention of every citizen if only they would spare the time.
A sweeping historical narrative of taxation since Babylon.......2001-05-03
I read this book sometime ago, but still recall it quite vividly. For good and evil- taxes seem like there here to stay. Adams, a tax attorney by trade, offers an intriguing narrative history of taxation since ancient times. Moreover, he illustrates how their is a fine line of how much sustained taxation a civilization can endure before it collapses, (hence the Laffer Curve.) He points out the pitfalls the befall ancient Rome and Egypt when they engaged in confiscatory taxation policies.
Additionally, he shows how high taxes feed a vicious cycle of statism, corruption and more taxes and economic collapse as demagogues rise to the power. Indeed, this book makes it clear that taxation has "the power to destroy" as it has brought mighty empires to their knees. (Granted, some might say its the effect, not the cause of a debased culture. Morality and tradition play a role as well in the collapse of civilizations.)
Also recommend: When Nations Die by Jim Black.
Many of the other reviews miss the point.......2000-10-10
Many of the reviews posted are so obviously biased for and against taxes or big governement as to make their review worthless.
The book has 38 chapters, nearly every one discusses taxation in a different society starting in ancient Egypt and disucsses taxation by the Greeks, Roman, Russians, French, English, and finally Americans among others. The point is not that taxation is bad, but that corrupt systems of taxation are bad and that taxation above a certain level is bound to fail since people will find ways to avoid it. This is not made up history, there are 23 pages of endnotes and a twelve page bibliography.
There are a number of illustrations, as well as, well written stories from the Rosetta Stone (it was actually a grant of tax immunity); to how Muslims taxed infidels more in order to get them to convert; to Lady Godiva (she made her ride get the King, her husband, to remit the heavy taxes he imposed on the Coventry);, to taxation as one cause of the Civil War that few are aware of (there are 16 endnotes on this chapter alone, many from articles written during the Civil War).
This is a facinating book that should be required reading for every member of Congress.

Book Description
1902. This is a brief history condensed from the oldest and best histories of Washington. No attempt has been made to alter or change the facts or sentiments as related by the earliest historians. The numerous illustrations have also been taken from many histories. The hope is that the descriptive matter and illustrations have been edited in such a way as to make this volume readable, interesting and at times even fascinating for the reader.

True story of changes after breast cancer........2000-11-02
This book is a "true story" of one woman's struggle with breast cancer and her reasons for having reconstructive surgery. I believe that it is a good read not only for those who have had breast cancer, but also for the spouses and significant others of those dealing with breast cancer. It specifically deals with a single woman's struggle to maintain her sexuality, and also deal with the constant reminder of the surgery and all the trials and tribulations that came with the diagnosis of breast cancer. Some parts are somewhat sexually explicit, and this might bother some people. I think it took a great deal of courage for her to tell details of how all of this affected her life in so many ways.
Book Description
My name is Diane Craig Chechik, and I can be a source of information and inspiration if breast cancer is a concern to you. I am a twenty-year breast cancer survivor, public speaker, and author of two books, There's Nothing Like A Breast and Journey to Justice.
The books detail my legal, emotional, physical and sexual struggles with breast cancer. Both books have been written not only for breast cancer survivors, but also for their spouses, families, and friends. They have changed and saved readers' lives -- motivating them to become their own advocates for their health, their bodies, and their future.
October officially is Breast Cancer Awareness month. However, breast cancer strikes every day of the year. As the longest living breast cancer survivor in the world taking Tamoxifen, I would be happy to share my experiences with others now facing the challenges cancer presents. I have lectured extensively throughout Florida and other states to women's groups, and health care professionals along with being interviewed on radio, television by newspaper reporters, and participating in panel discussions.
Be well.
