This is an excellent book. Author Michael Salmon wastes no words, but provides a series of tips, questionnaires, checklists and exercises that will help everyone, even the most introverted, build a network productively and use it effectively. There is no fluff here, and minimal self-promotion. The book is mostly meat. The author is extraordinarily well organized and to the point. His advice on how to categorize relatives, friends and acquaintances may seem cold, but it is indispensable. Similarly, he recommends becoming a resource to others so that they may someday become a resource to you - a utilitarian and self-serving approach to human relations, but if you have no other reason to help people, this is not a bad one. One quibble: the book is repetitious and illustrates the hard truth with soft little imaginary anecdotes. That's more a fault of the genre than of the author. If you are in job search mode, We highly recommends this book to you. As the folks back home might say, write when you get work.

This is a wonderful cookbook with easy to follow recipes. The book definitely takes advantage of the fruits and vegetables that are available throughout the year. There are a variety of recipes to choose from and the ones I've gotten the best reviews from are the crab dip, carrot cake, and clam chowder. My only complaint about this book is that many of the recipes are very heavy and involve using cream, sour cream, cream cheese, butter, mayonaise, etc. Not the healthiest of ingredients, but the food sure does taste good.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to cook or even for people that are just learning to cook. The recipies vary from very simple to some that are more complicated. It is a beautiful cookbook and suitable to give as a gift. I have tried many of the recipies in it and have loved each of them. I love cookbooks and this is by far one of my favorites!

Event Trading certainly stands out in the increasingly crowded arena of investment books . As a professional trader with over 5 years in the futures markets it is a pleasure to come across a methodology that is backed up by rigorous statistical testing that the reader can duplicate. It is also refreshing to find an entirely new approach to trading, one that is not a rehash of technical analysis indicators or a review of interpreting economic fundamentals. Event Trading differs from most of the existing books in this field. All rules are fully disclosed and mechanical. The reader is not presented with any "squishy" interpretations of market activity - this is not Elliot Wave! The performance each system includes the full spectrum of all trades taken . Far too many books show only the periods where their systems excelled, conveniently excluding periods of poor performance. I have definitely found the ideas presented to be both novel and applicable in the futures markets. If you want to survive as a trader it is critical to have a methodology that you verify with historical testing and implement according to your testing. Event Trading will give you this edge.
University Term Paper Goes Big Time.......1999-07-09
What stands out most about this book is the large print that does not fill the pages. It could have easily been half the length. That said once you distill all the information down to pertinent theories what you are left with is something more worthy of submission to 'Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities' as a two pager. The authors theory is very simple and straight forward. It's hard to believe that an entire book has been written on such a narrow subject/theory. The bulk of this text is merely examples of the theory that are applied across different markets. I finished this 214 page term paper in under 1 hour. If my highliter had not graced the first few pages it would have found it's way back in postal system. Save your money.

It's not "death planning" it's "life planning".......2001-01-25
This is a very hot topic in Washington right now with a new President and Congress vowing to "do something" about the estate tax. I don't think most Americans are aware that after they die, the government can claim up to 55 percent of their estate -- and that the taxes are due in cash within nine months! In many cases, that can mean the forced liquidation of a family business or sale of family residences. The thing that impressed me is that it is all completely avoidable, by using various strategies including insurance, trusts, family foundations, charitable giving, etc. AND you can still give the full amount to your kids or grandkids or whomever. Amazing! Kilbourn says there are two tax systems, one for the informed and one for the uninformed and after reading his book, I'd have to agree. I found the book to be well-written and easily understandable, not full of technical jargon, although there seemed to be enough alphabet soup to satisfy those who want the details. According to the book, something like a trillion dollars in wealth is going to pass between the greatest generation to the baby boomers over the next 20 years, so if you don't want the IRS to take half of it, either you or your parents need to read this book. It definitely opened my eyes.

Inspirational...........2003-01-13
Mary Wilson's story is one of perserverance and inspiration. Born without arms, she never saw herself as handicapped, but as a "normal armless person." She's one amazing woman. I'm proud to say I've known her for over 20 years and consider her my "surrogate" mom.
While I knew much of her story from countless mornings at her kitchen counter, there were certain stories that she chose not to share over the coffee cups. This book filled in the details for me and made me even more aware of her triumph and spirit.
Morton's writing style is often choppy and mostly narrative. It would have been a stronger story with more quotes from the loved ones in Mary's life, or recollections from Mary herself. Even with that minor distraction, I really enjoyed reading the story of a woman who never gave up.

A Toehold on Life is the absorbing and remarkable life story Mary Wilson, a woman who triumphed over a series of personal and physical hardships. These hardships would have been hard for anyone to overcome, and Mary had the added disadvantage of having to do it without arms. The book follows Mary's life from a happy childhood in which her armlessness since birth is readily accepted by her loving family, siblings and playmates, through several difficult marriages that tested every ounce of her courage, self-sufficiency, and grit, and finally through two extremely happy marriages, which returned the kind of love and support she had given to others her entire life. The style of writing is well-suited to the kind of life lived by Mary -- honest, direct, and free from any sense of pity or maudlin sentimentality. Needless to say, Mary's life story is extremely inspirational in terms of showing what can be gained by having a positive attitude, ingenuity and courage -- courage in putting oneself "out there" in a "take me as I am" statement as Mary pursued her everyday activities as a Marimba-playing musician, salesperson, store owner, homemaker and mother, and childcare professional, to name a few. I recommend this book highly as an interesting read for anyone who is interested in learning about the variety of experiences possible in the the family of man, regardless of whether or not the subject is disabled or able-bodied.
