I obtained the mentioned book from University library. It is in DOS format. It did not work in my XP notebook. I wrote many times to author. He is indiffirent. I could not run the program still. I did not have this chance!! But it looks it is for year 1995 not for 2003!

1 out of 5 stars Not Today's World.......2002-03-20

The Business Policy Game is copyrighted 1995 and contains a computer disk for the simulated game that is still in DOS. It is totally out of date. It teaches students to run a company in a business world that no longer exists. It offers no opportunity for innovation, entrepreneurship or e-commerce. This game may have been useful for students in 1995 but it is no longer a simulation of the world that faces us in 2002.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book for business simulation.......2000-03-29

The Business Policy Game (BPG) is a simulation of a business that takes place on a virtual world where only two countries exist, and you run a company that has competitors. You are the CEO and the CFO of this company. You take decisions about marketing, production, finances to make your company the best of the world.

This book is the BPG Manual, and contains the description of the world that the simulation develops. It is clearly written, and contains a detailed description of the process you have to follow to take decision on the Business Policy Game.

I think this provides valuable experience on running a real company.

    Book Description

Inspired by Marion Luna Brem's own amazing rags-to-riches story, this is a practical book for the modern woman at any stage of her career. While revealing how she transformed herself from a jobless young mother, deeply in debt after cancer treatments, into the leader of a $45 million dollar business empire, Brem charts the seven characteristics to which she feels women can lay particular if not exclusive claim-and how embracing these traits can lead women to financial independence and professional and personal satisfaction.

5 out of 5 stars Honoring Your Gifts to Create Success.......2004-04-13

Marion Luna Brem shares openly, honestly and courageously by inspiring women from her own life lessons how to embrace your attributes of nurturing, resiliency, creative passion, intuition, self-value, and sensitivity to embark on your dreams fueled with passion and self-belief. Leadership and Balance are covered to help you understand that "leaders make changes happen" and personal balance, while taking time to rejuvenate are critical to avoid burn-out, and to lead your life with full stamina, endurance, and passion.

I found that passion is the key element in this book. Self-worth is critical to embrace your passion. I received this book as a gift, and it does make a great gift to any woman who wants to chart her own path in life, no matter what she has previously been through.

4 out of 5 stars Your Own Identity.......2003-12-20

This book was a great read, well for those who are in doubt about the amount of success in their lives. The author shows great insights of how to get in touch with your personal body and mind and how to control it, but for the leading lady, this book would not be of intrest to form what has already been mastered.

    3 out of 5 stars Brem review.......2003-11-04

I thought the book was meant for women who do not know their identity. I felt that the majority of the book dealt with things women should obviously know. I understand Brem's purpose and why one must understand their strengths to succeed in a business world. It is a great book, however, the book was not for me.

4 out of 5 stars The 7 Greatest Truths About Successful Women.......2003-05-12

In a "man's world" women must step up and work hard in order to thrive. Women must use their innate strengths to guide them and should never yield into their weaknesses. The number of women in the business world has greatly increased in the last twenty years and women will continue to be successful if they are resilient, are passionate, nurturing, can use their creativity and intuition, but most of all they must value themselves first.

This is a typical "rags-to-riches" story, about a woman who had no job, and was on the verge of completely giving up, when a moment of awakening pushed her forward towards success. Marion Luna Brem provides guidelines almost, for women to follow in order to succeed and be the best in the business world. Brem, a cancer survivor, inserts snippets of her incredible story of how she made it to the top, to show that ANYONE can achieve "financial independence, professional freedom, and personal joy."
The Seven Greatest Truths about Successful Women details "truths" that are bluntly obvious, however, stating the obvious often clarifies and reinforces certain things that we already may or may not know and understand.

4 out of 5 stars The Truth about the Seven Greatest Truths.......2002-12-16

In Marion Luna Brem's The Seven Greatest Truths About Successful Women, the reader is given an inside look into the struggles of women in the work force. Through the use of personal experience and anecdote of herself and other women, Brem is able to apply the gifts given to women to the real world. From her journey, the reader is able to understand the ways in which women must apply themselves in order to succeed. I thought the book was very well written and conveyed a very important message. It emphasized certain characteristics of women that not many people focus on. Even though many of the attributes mentioned are obvious, the book does a good job of explaining how to utilize them. The fact that Brem relies on her personal experience is also very touching. Overall, the book was a good read and gave good advice.

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as her first book!.......2003-04-19

I love the original Healthy Homestyle Cooking and use it constantly -- however, I've always thought the sweets and baked goods were the weakest part of the cookbook. And unfortunately that problem is magnified in this book. She cuts too much fat and salt out of everything, and the flavor and texture of the final products really suffer. Most of her muffins and quick breads are either rubbery and tough, or dense and soggy, because she replaces every last drop of oil or butter with applesauce. Also, H.H. Desserts has many repeats within itself as well as repeats from her first book. The same cheesecake and muffin recipes are repeated again and again, with just a tiny change in flavorings, fruit, name, etc. AND -- rather importantly -- sometimes the calorie savings from her "makeovers" are so small that it's not worth the huge compromise in taste and texture. I mean, sometimes her cookie "makeovers" only shave about 20 calories per cookie -- but they definitely don't taste as good as the original. And did anyone notice that many of the muffins are jumbo-sized? That's to make the calorie and fat savings look more dramatic.
For best results with Tribole's muffin and quick bread recipes, always add about 1/2 teaspoon salt, a few tablespoons of oil (in addition to the applesauce she calls for), and when she calls for two egg whites, use a whole egg instead. You'll get far better results and you'll still have a healthy, low-fat product. And you won't waste mountains of egg yolks, which I think is criminal!

    5 out of 5 stars I didn't believe it either!.......1999-01-29

This book will totally surprise you. I know something about cooking, so I was convinced that removing some of the butter, oil, eggs, etc., would render many of these sweet recipies inedible. But then I bought this and tried some of these "healthy homestyle desserts" after I bought Tribole's other book, STEALTH HEALTH. All I can tell you is the woman is a magician. And she made me feel like one, too! If you don't believe me, just take her Chocolate Turtle Pecan Cookies to your next church bake sale and watch the reaction.

This low fat/non fat dessert cook book makes desserts that taste better than the ones with all the fat and the calories. I give this book 2 thumbs up and highly suggest it. Each recipe has a label telling you the fat and calorie content of a serving which is very helpful. It's a real must have!

Best book of implementing IR option models that I found while I was writing my masters thesis. It has full algorithms for most of the models presented and also simulations of the results. 4 out of 5 stars Great book.......2007-01-31

Learnt a great deal from this book. I bought this because I had to learn some stuff for work, on a project. The book helped me learn the concept easily and understand the content.

      4 out of 5 stars good introduction.......2006-02-14

Very good introduction or summary for the most basic models that are used in the industry. However, it is not very detailed for more complicated models.

4 out of 5 stars You can do it but you do not understand.......2005-10-11

This books is very valuable for equities derivatives. In particular the implementations are very clear even if it is only sketch and not real implementations.

Unfortunately it does not explain the real points behind (martingale, risk neutral). So you know how to do it but you do not know why you do it. For this you should read the Baxter.

Another bad point is that the interest rate derivatives are covered just for the single factor rate models and the HJM model and not the LIBOR-Market model which is the most useful model.

3 out of 5 stars Fills a gap, but needs polish.......1999-10-13

Even more than Wilmott's book, C&S's book gets into the details of pricing derivatives. The choice of topics is truly excellent, and the copious source code included is a superb move. I am currently using this book (and others) to teach a class in Financial Programming. On the other hand, errors are frustratingly frequent. Not so much in the source code, but in the prose. It would be nice to see a floppy disk of code come with the book, a la Hull. There are no exercises in the text, which I consider to be an egregious error, because exercises are really the only way to learn the material.C&S try to make finite difference schemes seem less intimidating by expressing them in terms of probabilities (to stress the link between trees and more general lattices). This works OK for explicit schemes, but for the more important implicit and Crank Nicolson schemes is weird and unnatural. It fails to give the reader any clue as to how to do finite differencing on his own. (Their odd changes of variables don't help, either.) Wilmott's treatment of the subject of finite differencing is far superior.

Believing there must be a better way to invest in stocks, this author developed a unique but still easy to understand system to guide the average investor. The program is called WaveSurfer®. WaveSurfer permits its users to predict future price movements in their individual stocks by revealing to them whether their stocks are in a positive or negative trend and how strong that trend is. It gives turning points. It tells investors when to buy or sell. It filters out much of the useless information supplied to us by the media and by confusing daily stock price quotations.

This book explains how the markets really work and, thereby, it explains how WaveSurfer can accurately interpret its mysteries. To begin using WaveSurfer, all one needs is a computer with an accounting, program; or with a bit more effort, with only a pencil and paper.

Everything needful is supplied. Included, is the basic layout of the system and the necessary formulas; along with clear instructions on how to use WaveSurfer to trade.

Lately, the ordinary investor has taken a painful lesson in the markets; primarily because he has been investing blindly. WaveSurfer takes off his blindfold. Now is not the time to mourn past losses. Now is the time to get even. Learn to trade with the market, and not against it.

5 out of 5 stars Implications of Insider Trading.......2000-05-16

        Book Review: Insider Trading

Insider Trading by Jonathan R. Macey is a special analysis on insider trading. It presents different perspectives that explain the prohibition of insider trading, and the way it affects various aspects of life on the stock market. In particular this book analyzes insider trading as a whole from the view of Economics, Politics, and Policy.

In the first part of the book the author reviews briefly the early history of the regulation of insider trading. He tells the reader various anecdotes involving the congress, the supreme court, and the investors. He also explains various laws which have regulated insider trading. He also lays out the problem of conflicts of interest between the shareholders and managers as it relates to insider trading. Finally the author underscores the importance of understanding insider trading from an economic viewpoint for the investors, from the political viewpoint for Congress, and from the Policy viewpoint for the Securities Exchange Commission which regulates trading on the stock market.

In chapter two, the author presents us with the important principles of economics that are relevant to insider trading. The investors who trade securities should have the ability to dispose their securities at short notice and at the least cost. Such an ability makes the stock market economically efficient for all investors. Specifically the author defines Insider Trading as based on private information which is like property.

In chapter three, the author makes fine distinctions between small investors and large institutional investors as they relate to insider trading. Insider information can give an undue advantage to insiders and other bigger investors who can purchase information. This puts the small investors at a considerable risk and disadvantage. The author presents the trade off between higher salaries and the benefits from insider trading for senior managers. Such a trade off results in an overall enhancement of shareholder wealth.

In chapter four, the author focuses on redressing the problem of disadvantage for the small investors who do not possess insider information. Since this is not fair, Congress protects the small investors by promulgating laws that ban insider trading. The author details the case of Chiarella that clarifies the law. The author describes the political conflicts between the executive arm of the government, namely the Securities Exchange Commission, and the judicial arm of the government, namely the Supreme Court. Chapter five is the theoretical core of the book with extensive discussion of insider trading and its relationship to other concepts such as fairness, welfare and equality of information. In fact, insider trading cannot be labeled either unfair or inefficient unless it harms investors. Nor does insider trading undermine investor confidence in the stock market if such trading maximizes the value of a firm. The author presents a balanced view on both the positive benefits and inimical consequences of insider trading.

Chapter six provides an overview of the Policy framework that the Securities Exchange Commission has to implement to prohibit insider trading. The author describes various rules, for example Rule 10b-5, of the Securities Exchange Act with succinct explanations of the underlying rationale for each rule. The author uses the cases of Chiarella and Dirks to describe the Supreme Court interpretations of the Policy framework for the Securities Exchange Commission. This chapter is an excellent summary of the prevailing law of insider trading in the US.

If there is one lesson to be learned from this book, it is that insider trading constitutes the theft of company property (though the property is information). However, such inside trading cannot constitute the theft of company property if such trading is conducted with the consent of the firm that owns the information and such trading occurs under the Policy framework of the Securities Exchange Commission.

This book is an excellent analysis on insider trading from the viewpoints of Economics, Politics and Policy. It helps the reader not only know what insider trading is, but understand the ways in which it affects life in the stock market. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an analytical overview of insider trading.

            Book Description

This book is a humorous satire about the inner fumbling, bumbling and sometimes just plain chaos which the Internal Revenue Service would like to keep away from the public eyes. A few of the things which this book illustrates are a failed equal employment opportunity program; an antiquated payroll system which kept the employees in turmoil; an awards program which gave away hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars, just because employees came to work or because of the color of their skin; failed management development programs which cost the taxpayers millions of dollars; and the whimsical expensive penchant the IRS has for chasing today's fads and abandoning them when the new ones come along. These are a few items in the book, but there are many more which will leave the readers shaking their heads in disbelief. There are no technical tax matters in the book. The author describes the events in an easy going conversational style. It is guaranteed to make the readers laugh at the inept IRS management system and at times it might make the readers a little bit angry when they see how their hard earned tax dollars are foolishly squandered.
