This is a planner structured for those who don't really have time to read books about the industry, with step by step information and an independent fragment information organization. This book will help you get your business done quickly by professionally outlining the things you need to do to succeed and by establishing schedules for all of this. As good as this book is, "The Music Business: How YOU can make $500,000 "or more" a year in the music industry by Doing it Yourself!" By Ty Cohen is a lot better because it presents the things you kneed to know in much more detail, it might take a little longer to read but it guarantees success.

This is a great book. I use it with David's other book and also the Tim Sweeney book to get everything in order. It is easy to use and I just sit down with it at the beginning of the week. When I do, I get 4-5x more time than when I don't. It is really that good. I mean, you could just write stuff down, but this is in an organized way that will make you think about what it is you need to accomplish for the week and for your career.

Understanding Hedge Funds.......2007-08-07
James Owen's book is outstanding. He provides an excellent history of hedge funds, starting with A.W. Jones' concept of conservative investment principles that focus on wealth preservation, yet can result in outstanding long term success. The book gives a very good overview of the types of hedge funds and does a particularly good job of contrasting hedge funds from mutual funds and other relative performance vehicles. Ownen is also the author of my favorite "investment" book: Cowboy Ethics, What Wall Street Can Learn from the Code of the West.
Start your hedge fund education with this book........2006-01-01
I bought 10 books on hedge fund investing and this book is the premier resource for anyone who is new to hedge funds or who wants to improve his/her financial eduation and have a better grasp of investing strategies beyond 'buy and hold'. People who are considering or just moving into alternative investments should start with this book because it is clear, highly readable, and contains specific suggestions and lists of resources. The latter are invaluable to non-professionals who want a knowledge base for evaluating advice on what to do with their money and some idea of how to perform due diligence with regard to hedge fund investing. That is the target audience for this book and the author more than succeeds in meeting its needs. It is an excellent foundation for more complex treatments that are usually not as well written.
Experienced professionals would do well to read this book and note the clarity of its style and how it leaves the average reader with a sense of greater financial empowerment despite the complexity of its subject and material. Would that all financial writers (and advisors) could be as clear and engaging as Mr. Owen is in this book!

Way too superficial for the institutional investors... Although probably a nice start for privates it does not provide any indepth insight into the strategies employed by hedge fund managers or the risks involved.... For the professional investor I would recommend "Absolute Returns" from Ineichen, which covers the entire spectrum, from indepth analysis of the strategies employed to an extensive overview of market risk factors....

Author has good writing style and the book is laid out well. It is a quick and easy read. Contains good tips on where to get more info on hedge funds and how to perform some basic due diligence. Great for people who are thinking about investing in hedge funds and who don't have finance background. Books does fall short on explaining the risks inherent in many hedge fund strategies.

Description:
Drawing on institutional economics, this article addresses how institutional congruence between capital and labor markets influences corporate governance systems, which, in turn, create differences in national corporate innovation and entrepreneurship systems and subsequently global competitiveness. We argue that such institutional congruence cultivates two ideal corporate governance systems. The first ideal type is the market-based system with transactional capital and external labor markets. This corporate governance system facilitates more explorative and revolutionary innovations. The second ideal type is the relationship-based governance system with relational capital and internal labor markets. This system facilitates more exploitative and evolutionary innovations. We wrap up by discussing how institutional adjustments are being pursued for each governance system because each type has advantages and disadvantages that require adjustments. Finally, we present implications that our congruence model suggests for global competitiveness, high-tech management, and public policy regarding national innovations systems.

Reading this book was like speaking to Ken. Ken is a good guy who is a very talented writer. Normally, I wouldn't read a book like this, but since I know Ken personally, it was like having him in my living room. I found I had to concentrate on the text more than usual because its a bit all-over-the-place, but so is Ken. Since I like him so much, I found it easy to like the book. I think you will too. -Johnny
Touching and Authentic Story.......2006-01-05
Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable read. Mr. Patterson's story is both funny and sad. Having ADHD myself, I found myself nodding in agreement while reading the book because I could identify with the difficulties, feelings and situations he faced.
For someone with ADHD, the value in reading this book is finding out that other people are dealing with the same issues and that you are not alone. For someone without ADHD, it is important to keep an open mind while reading this book because it may be hard to identify with the author's struggles and writing style. Yet, it will help give a better understanding of people who are ADHD.
Again, an enjoyable read that is also authentic. Highly recommended!
