5 out of 5 stars When put into practice...Life Changing!.......2007-05-18

I came upon this book only because I worked at GTE Data Services. It was mandatory reading, and at the time - the only reason I read it was because I thought my merit raise would be negatively affected should some questions be asked during my annual review. So, I read it...let me say I am not much of a reader. Let me also say it was a very easy read. I couldn't put the book down...I had to keep reading. This book - when put into practice - has literally helped change my life...my way of thinking, my attitude. The concepts are simple, and when you read it you will stop and think, this is common sense (believing in yourself - believing you are a winner). But is it? Do we really put into practice the information in this book? If you did, you probably wouldn't be seeking such information...so I guess it isn't totally common sense. This book is simple, yet extremely powerful. I have learned to believe in myself, I have learned that "I can - without feeling the need to seek approval from my peers." I have learned to become a goal setter, and because of this, I have truly began to achieve. This is a great book, with timeless information for personal success. On a side note...Joel Osteen gave a great message about soaring like an eagle - soaring above the crowes. The message is #337, Don't Allow Critical Voices To Steal Your Dreams, which aired: 03.04.07 - 03.10.07. This message is also timeless and life changing. So, my friends, continue to believe in yourself and give all glory to Jesus Christ. Absolutely fantastic, motivating messages!

Wow, this book has literally changed my life. I no longer look at life the same way. I'm ordering copies for my children and grandchildren. Thanks Ray, I'm eternally grateful. Tim

Read Ray's book and you will see why Sports Illustrated named him the Motivational Magician ! When Ray Pelletier speaks. . . coaches listen and players respond--and so will you ! This book is full of all the positive energy that Ray Pelletier emits when you meet him in person. This book is also chocked full of powerful strategies. . . "January 1st" is just one of them ! Exciting reading!

5 out of 5 stars RAYHELPED ME TO REALIZE THAT I HAVE CONTROL OVER MY LIFE!!.......1999-06-11

I NEVER REALIZED THAT I HAD ALL THE CONTROL. RAY HELPED ME TO BELIEVE IN MYSELF WHEN I THOUGHT I NEEDED OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS. RAY HAS TAUGHT ME THAT I HAD TO LOOK AT MYSELF AND BE PLEASED WITH WHAT I SAW.WHEN RAY FIRST SAID IN THE BOOK TO STOP, AND DO THE HOMEWORK, I DIDN'T. I FIGURED I COULD SKIP THE HOMEWORK. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO THE HOMEWORK!! IT'S ALL PART OF THE PLAN FOR CREATING A NEW YOU!! THANK-YOU GOD FOR RAY, THANK-YOU RAY FOR YOUR BOOK.:)

5 out of 5 stars Powerful message, positive message!.......1998-12-16

A whole new way to look at becoming a winner! This book reinforces the message that the power to become successful and happy in all aspects of life lie within ourselves. Great message!

Boswell and Wyler. What sounds at first like a boutique law office is, in fact, a highly successful concept cookbook production team. They're the ones behind all those 365 Ways to Cook titles. And now, in what appears to be a labor of fun, as well as love, comes A Man and His Pan. Boswell is careful to point out in the introduction that he in no way means to exclude women from his one-pan-does-it-all-cookbook. He just couldn't resist the title.

A Man and His Pan proposes two basic elements of successful cooking: ease of production and even easier cleanup. This is a book based on nonstick cookware. Teflon came out in 1962, but the nonstick cookware of today has about as much to do with those early adventures as the portable typewriter has to do with a laptop computer. As Boswell points out, being careful of temperature and avoiding harsh abrasives are about all the special care this cookware needs. Pick the right pan, Boswell counsels, and you are well on your way to one-pan cooking, which is really what this book is all about.

The eight chapters of A Man and His Pan cover breakfast, red meats, chicken, seafood, one-pan meals, short-order gourmet, sides for all occasions, and pan cooking for kids. The recipes are direct and simple, and bold flavor appears to be the underlying theme. There's a pan-fried steak, for example, with a Madeira-balsamic vinegar reduction sauce that tastes like it's right out of a four-star restaurant, but cooks up in one pan like a charm. In the "Short Order Gourmet" chapter, you'll find a Spicy Peanut Chicken Stir-Fry that can hold its own against any Kung Pao takeout, home-delivered or not.

For anyone who is starting to cook, this is a good place to begin. For anyone who has been knocking out family meals night after night, this is a terrific place to come back to for simple, flavorful ideas. There will be no battles about doing the dishes if you use this book, one pan, and paper plates. --Schuyler Ingle

5 out of 5 stars Excellent recipes make for wonderful food.......2006-03-21

This is the best cookbook to have on your shelf, man or woman! I bought it for my husband via a cookbook club years ago because of the title. Recently we finally started cooking from it and so many of the recipes are hits! In fact, we enjoy it so much that we've purchased copies for male friends whose wives want them to learn to cook better.

Many of the recipes look intimidating at first glance but Boswell really makes them accessible for cooks of all experience levels. What's more the resulting food is delicious! Of all the recipes, I recommend the Meatball and Carrot Ragout (excellent with fresh baguette), the White Pan Pizza (we dress it up with spinach and chicken), the Double-Crusted Turkey Sausage Pan Pizzas, Pan-Fried Steak with Madiera-Balsamic Reduction, and the Turkey, Bacon and Cheddar Sandwiches. Breakfast favorites are the Eggs Florentine with Smoked Salmon and the Frog in the Haystack which, while listed under the kids meals, is really yummy. We've also eaten the Smothered Chicken with African Flavors - quite tasty.

We've found that the skillet needs to be deep sometimes and that our cast-iron skillet (VERY well seasoned) is just as good as the non-stick that Boswell recommends. For novice cooks, however, the non-stick might be helpful.

In all, a great book to have. Too bad it's out of print.

            5 out of 5 stars I like it!.......2002-06-04

Yes I liked the book and also went and bought the recommended pan too!

4 out of 5 stars Not for men only!.......2002-03-30

I originally bought this cookbook for my boyfriend (now my husband) to encourage him to learn to cook, and it worked. Everyone I have given this book to (experienced cooks and beginners)loves this book. I use it too! Not every recipe is easy, but that's OK. Some of these recipes have become monthly favorites, such as Red Snapper w/white wine tomatoes and capers and Chicken in Madeira sauce. This book with a 12 inch non-stick skillet is a great housewarming gift.

            5 out of 5 stars Execellent cookbook!.......1999-12-20

This is a great cookbook for the novice or the more experienced gourmet. My son-in-law picked it up one day and surprised his wife with a fancy breakfast and and by the following week he prepared three different types of meals for me as a birthday present on thanksgiving week end. Highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars U.S. Taxation of International Income.......2006-05-28

The US system of taxing international income flows was conceived in the 1920s and crystalized by the 1950s, when taxation of international transactions was seen as totally distinct from taxation of domestic income. The main concern during that time was division of revenue between taxing authorities, not competition on a global scale. US corporations dominated world commerce and investment, and foreign investment in the United States was minimal.

The world economy has changes dramatically since the 1950s, but the basic structure of US taxation of international income remains the same. This study offers a blueprint for reforming US taxation of international income to accomidate the economic realities of the 1990s, especially heightened competition from Europe and Japan. A guiding theme is to ensure that the tax system helps make the United States a hospitable location for R&D facilities and other headquarters activities of multinational firms, and for the production and export of high-technology goods and services.

Among the major reforms, Hufbauer recommends the taxation of direct investment income on a territorial basis and abolition of the foreign tax credit; suggests the allocation of US headquarters expense (including R&D outlays) entirely against US-source income; advocates that only the United States tax royalties and fees that are paid from abroad for know-how generated in the United States; urges a 10 percent R&D tax credit for all R&D performed in the United States; recommends the taxation of portfolio income solely by the resident country; and urges binding arbitration to resolve the growing caseload of transfer pricing disputes.

5 out of 5 stars Super Skills for the 21st Century.......2001-05-07

Anyone interested in accelerated learning is probably indebted to Colin Rose through his first book published in 1983. He has the gift to present research information and applications in interesting and easily accessible ways. This book even supersedes the past two in packing so much useful material in 152 pages. The goal is to help everyone master 3 skills given in the subtitle: how to learn faster, make good decisions and think creatively. Colin elaborates on the 6 stages of his learning model, using the acronym M.A.S.T.E.R. M=mind set. A=acquire the facts. S=search out the meaning. T=trigger the memory. E=exhibit what you know. R=reflect on how you learned. The model can be applied to learning organizations too. Learning and teaching using the book is much helped by numerous cartoon mind-maps, charts, sketches, summaries, quotes, captions, acronyms, training tips, parent tips... 8 multiple intelligences, your preferred senses are succinctly presented and assessed. There are interesting tidbits of information or advice on almost any page. "Information is doubling every four years." (p.1)"Tests show that simply shifting a book to the left or right of the body can improve some people's reading speed and understanding!" (p.9)"Separate the personality from the problem!" (p.79)"Want to be sure to remember something important later in the day? Switch your watch to your other hand. It's a constant reminder that something is different." (p. 94) Find your own gems throughout the book. I wish all students can work through such a program and master the super skills necessary for the 21st century.
