I predict that very few readers will read this book as the format intended-one brief segment per week for fifty-two weeks. Why? Because the book is too interesting, relevant, and helpful. Once you read the first "simple bite-size coaching" item, you won't be content to put the book aside. Most readers will read the entire book the first week, and then start reading again.

Ms. Sharbuno writes with exceptional clarity, wit, organization, and insight into everyday concerns and challenges. Additionally, she has pulled together fifty-two marvelous quotations to segue into each short essay.

She explains her term "success from the inside out." To attain success, she advises, we cannot rely on outer circumstances. Instead, success depends more upon how we use our inner resources, often in the face of a threatening environment.

The book is highly contemporary, in matters such as providing guidance for launching a new career after a job loss. Readers will listen to her because she experienced that adversity herself, and transitioned happily into a new arena.

As a part time career counselor and full time entrepreneuer starting a business in coaching, I've found Jeanne's book to be enlightening, delightful and very useful. In a very short period of time I've recommended the book several times to both clients and colleagues as an aid to sort through moving forward with lives and careers.

I have incorporated Jeanne's "Be-Do-Have" formula for living success...from the inside out into my own daily affirmations and have talked about this concept in my workshops (with a nod to Jeanne, of course!). Perhaps the most noticeable, not to mention fun, innovation of "Be-Do-Have" for me, has been on the golf course! Interesting Look into the Hawkings' Family Life.......2003-01-15

This is an interesting book on a multitude of levels. It is not just your regular celebrity expose. It is also a look into the life of an academic family, the family of a severely handicapped person, and a look into British life.

Jane Hawking married Stephen Hawking, believing that his life would be a short one. They hoped to jam as much love and fulfillment into what they thought would be short years together. They married fairly young, had children right away and set to keeping house. (Boy, wasn't everyone surprised at his staying power!)

Jane (May I call her Jane?) describes the domestic details of a young family as well as the intrigues of her tweedy academic society at the University. Its a delightful look into how academes live, describing the politics, the society and the passion for learning. At various points, they travel to the States and other places in Europe and she enlightens us on the life of the learned in those places, as well. If you contemplate a career in academia, this book can be enlightening.

She, for many years, was an astounding caregiver, dealing with Stephen's (May I call him Stephen?) progressive physical decline and heavier demands. She managed to run the household, raise the kids, and literally haul him around for years before a serious respiratory incident forced her to bring professional nurses in full-time. She recounts battles with the British health care system, battles for access with the University, and the domestic friction that one would expect when one member of the family is so handicapped.

Jane got a PhD in her own right (you GO, girl!) in Spanish poetry and here is where the book loses a star. The book's a bit more wordy than it needs to be, on a number of fronts. My PhD buddies tend to write non-thesis material like that. I recognize the style. A bit of editing may have been nice.

Still, a worthy read for moms, academes, caregivers, stargazers, Spanish poets, Baroque musicians...

The interplay of love given and received from unexpected sources is a major theme of this book. Kind words from colleagues were remembered as she struggled to bring up 3 children and help make a sick husband strong.

Insights on living with the disabled from a family perspective abound. The energy needed to run concerts, dinner parties, childrens' parties, trips and more comes through in the book, as well as profound emotions.

This book inspires one to make the most out of life. Stephen's pioneering research is clearly explained in simple terms for those who do not have a PhD in the mathematical physics of black holes. If a little lengthy, it reveals vignettes of an academic life that roams from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge across the Atlantic to dreary Seattle and sunny Pasadena.

With candid insights into her private spiritual experiences the author draws her own conclusions regarding the role of God in the universe.

This is a great book for the entrepreneur, especially one who travels abroad often or is setting up a shop abroad. It was recommended to me by an exec in a multinational who used the step-by-step guides to set himself and his family up in a 3-year posting to the Czech Republic. Nobody likes to think about (or pay for) security but this is a bargain in how to do it right the first time.

Insightful book and incredible man.......2007-06-28

I heard a review about this book on satellite radio and it really caught my attention. When I purchased the book I had no idea how much I would connect to Dolph's story. I couldn't put it down and it left me wanting to know more. I saw a few months later that Dolph was doing a book signing near where i lived. I found myself waiting in line to meet this man, that I felt I already knew. After waiting in line for 2 hours I was finally standing in front of him. I was speechless. I just stood there with my book in hand. I wanted to say so much, but for once in my life I was nervous and shy. Dolph, however, was so nice and so approachable. He was more of a welcomming friend. He took so much time visiting with me as he had done with each person who was in line. I understood now why the line was moving so slow. But for the few moments that we spoke he made me feel so important and he was more interested in me and what my life was like. It was as if he really cared about each one of his fans. He had no attitude or he was not cocky, he was friendly and approachable. I have even more respect for him as a person. After reading his book and seeing his pictures and films, I thought that he would be egotistic and unapproachable. He was neither. I wish I could meet with him again and really talk to him about his life and his journey. I can't wait for his next book. I highly recommend this one to any one who has ever thought they were different. I have never written an review before, but just want any reader to know that this book is worth the money and the read. It will leave you wanting more and really wanting to meet this man that has endured so much in life, but from what i witnessed, when i met him, has come through it all and is a great human being.

shallow and sketchy. much too preachy and politically correct for my taste. dolph plays the role of the victim very well. was this a pg [ or maybe a soft r ] version of his life? I get the feeling he's leaving much out. superficial, and not thorough enough. not totally without some redeeming qualities, but still a disappointment.

The United States has a LONG way to go before it becomes the ideal place where issues of gay, straight, race, religion and other issues are worked out in ways that let people live as themselves without fear of being hurt or abused physically or economically. The man spoke the truth in his book and for that get gets my highest five star recomendation and my thanks for his efforts on all our behalfs.

There will always be small minds in the United States please do not let the rantings of the tiny mind story you from enjoying a great book.

This is the story of a young man raised in the quiet reflection of a Zen monastery, but thrown suddenly into the noise, confusion, and chaos of mainstream America. The author paints a vivid picture of his struggle to adjust to a kaleidoscopic, loud, and sometimes rude new culture. He examines differences in assumptions, values, and customs, and explores the meanings in those differences. He also describes how, in the end, his Buddhist upbringing helped him come to terms with the changes.

This book is clearly and vibrantly written, and very enjoyable. It's also an eye-opener. I loved it.

I loved this book. If you want to understand what zen is
about, this is the book. Who better to enlighten us than
someone born into a zen family?

I felt the author was too hard on himself. I hope he's reading
this. He's is ok. But I get the impression he thinks there
is something wrong with being different. I think many enlightened people feel this way because those seeking "enlightenment" generally aren't showy people; so
you don't often meet them.

Ivan you are not alone. I understand your message. And I'm

This very readable, human book takes you into the world and mind of someone who has led an unusual life and destroys the myth that all Americans are somehow "coming from the same place" and can use the same experiences and references. Wrong! And this author is only one of many.
Mr. Richmond serves as a translator, so to speak, a bridge between divergent world views and his descriptions of trying to understand "Pop Culture" ( and sometimes getting it wrong) are fascinating. He writes with humanity and humor, never taking the stand that his upbringing and ideals are "better" just because they are different. This is a white, middle class individual who speaks English, one can only guess at how hard American culture ( and the idea we are a "Christian Nation") is for some people coming from "outside" to grasp. I read it in one or two sittings, I found it touching and eye opening, with a refreshing simplicity.
The message I got: No world view, or lifestyle, is ever perfect. There is good and bad in all lifestyles and religions, and a compassionate person needs to see that we are *not* all alike, not all coming from a common reference. As we stretch toward empathy, our spirit grows. Mr. Richmond's struggle to unite "silence" with "noise" has given him a unique perspective, one I really enjoyed sharing.
