A Woman Clothed With The Sun.......2006-01-28
I read this book, and yes, it has changed my life. After reading about Our Lady's apparitions in Bosnia in this book, I went to see for myself, traveling to the former Yugoslavia and experiencing what Medjugorje was all about.
I met the main characters of this book: two of the visionaries, Ivan and Mirjana, and Fr Jozo, the priest at the time of the first visions, who was imprisoned by the communists. And what strikes me about this book and what I saw is the consistency: over twenty years after the first apparitions, Our Lady is still appearing daily in Medjugorje, miracles are still happening and the Gospel is still being preached by saintly Franciscans, like Fr. Jozo.
This book gives you the history of the region and of the apparitions and includes many scientific facts about what occurs during the visions. From everything I've read, and my own investigations this much I can say: the Madonna is appearing in Medjugorje, and its no `spark' from heaven, its more like a sun, or rather a `woman clothed with the sun', who is lighting up the world with her messages of peace, love, and conversion. Read this book: it might change your life too and lead you on a journey of discovery.
The greatest book on Medjugorje I've ever read........1998-09-07
If you just read one book on Medjugorje, this is the one. Mary Craig writes from an objective point of view on the apparitions in Medjugorje. Originally there to produce a documentry for BBC television, she ended up believing the events (after witnessing the sun dance )and writing a book. This book is the most factual, informative and realiable book written yet on Medjugorje. This book takes the reader back to the early 1980's when six teenagers saw the Mother of God on their village hill and the events that flowed from it. It tells of their questioning by the communist officials, their encounters with the local bishop and their perserverence in proclaiming the apparitions in the face of so much adversity. No other Medjugorje writing comes close to this book. While others try to turn the events into a class on theology, this book tells the facts. Whatever one feels about God or Mary, one cannot ignore the facts. This book will enlighten all who read it.

A Spark From Heaven? Sparkles.......2003-08-18
"A Spark From Heaven?" by Adrian W. Savage is a beautiful distillation of pure wisdom regarding the realization of potential in individuals and organizations. The usual culprits blocking the realization of potential are habits. As we allow our habits to hijack conscious choice and fly our lives on autopilot, we abdicate the responsibility of making choices deliberately and thoughtfully. Thus is our potential thwarted. Realizing potential involves becoming the very best versions of ourselves that we can be. It embraces conscious choice, accountability, and persistence. According to Mr. Savage, patiently stretching beyond habits that detrimentally replace conscious choices with automatic responses is a critical key to realizing potential. Mr. Savage introduces the fascinating concept of "conscious incompetence", which states that people usually do things badly the first time they do them. Ironically, this is how we learn and grow. To the extent that organizations do not tend to support things being done badly (even the first time), they miss tapping the rich veins of potential that exist within their reach. Mr. Savage tweaks the current organizational practices. The concept of "best practices" is primarily an excuse to not think about the myriad options that are really available with each decision, and to consequently miss opportunities to learn. The focus on normative "performance gaps" saps enthusiasm. The idea of the performance review, with its emphasis on subordinate's deficiencies, usually creates rage, not a desire to improve. Perhaps the anger that Mr. Savage observes in modern organizations is promoted by these potential-robbing organizational practices. This was a fun book to read. The image of Mr. Savage's Burmese cat leaping from the floor to cling by its claws to the small of Mr. Savage's back was an amusing example of a dysfunctional habit. It was also perfectly illustrative of the fact that some people (as well as cats) will do anything to get attention. Importantly, Mr. Savage never downplays the work involved in realizing potential. It is a patient, deliberate process; and life is never certain. The journey does not have a fixed destination. As individuals begin to realize their potential, however, they have the possibility of living vibrant, free and uplifting lives of conscious and deliberate choice. As organizations allow people to realize their potential, the results can be extraordinary, full of boundless options and opportunities. I read this 206-page book in one morning, but found myself going back and underlining passages and paper-clipping pages. It is highly readable, and rich in depth and meaning. It is a good book to take on one's life journey. It will make you think about how you think.
An informative read for top-executives everywhere.......2003-07-29
I read this book on the advice of a friend and really enjoyed it. It answered many of the questions I had regarding my potential (as well as those I manage). It also offered some great, practical advice and insights on what I need to do now in order to find, develop and use my potential to its fullest. I look forward to seeing the results/benefits down the road - both in my personal and professional life.
A Must Read.......2003-04-30
This book is critical reading for executives. It offers clear direction on ways to invest in internal systems and structures to maximize contributions from people at every level. This book can help organizations develop a philosophy that supports all employees' capacity to contribute to build productivity and solidify sustainable growth. It is not a self-help book with a quick fix; it's an epert resource. Savage explains the importance of unlocking our hidden potential and offers ways to establish a process where we can develop, sustain high performance, and achieve personal satisfaction.

Look & Cook.......2006-11-06
As with all of the books in the look & cook series, this book is very easy to use and especially good for the beginner who might be a little intimidated by some of the classics.
I love Anne Willan's cookbooks - I want more!!.......1999-09-03
Anne Willan cookbooks are an excellent source of delicious recipies. I have many of her books and I have yet to be disappointed. I am not a natural chef - I work hard to produce nutritious daily meals as well as party fare. These books make the process much easier as the pictures lead me through every step. I would buy many more.

option education.......2007-07-21
The book is old and the information not with the current trading practices. Please note all the information is correct and the techniques are there, as well as teaching the basics very well. I would look for a newer edition of the authors work if someone wanted the latest methods as the markets keep changing and evolving so medthods must as well.
Excellent Options Overview.......2005-05-15
I read this book when I began my self-education
into the financial markets back in the mid-'80s.
Now I can get a hardback copy, in 'like new' condition,
for a steal!
It contains 200-300 practical examples on using
options for all sorts of investment situations and
objectives.
If you're new to investing, it might take a while
to see the logic in some of the examples, but all
of the strategies are viable and 'make sense'.
It is an excellent resource on the use of options
for straight trading, hedging, spreads, straddles,
producing income, and insurance, etc.
IMHO "Sure-Thing Options Trading:..." should
be on every investor's bookshelf.
Undiscovered gem.......2004-12-27
This book is a steal at the current used price. It is definitely worth putting on your shelf, and reading and re-reading it. I agree with the above reviews.
Top of the Class.......2001-05-15
This book is intended (more or less) for a person beginning in options. Its no "walk in the woods" but considering the abstruseness of both the subject and the other books on the topic I have scanned, it's near the top of the class. I think, it may also be somewhat more understandable than the Option Industry Council's - Option's Toolbox CD. This whole area has been poorly explained to the beginner for the most part, which is why options are not much more widely used despite their potential for leverage and risk reduction.
Best of the multiple options books I have read........1999-07-10
Of the ten + options books that I have read, this was my first, and it is the best. I still refer to it often. Most of the other books are either too technical or too simplistic. This engages the reader with practical examples and descriptions of the types of trades that the novice to intermediate investor will use most. I heartily recommend it.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Review and Explanation of Index Funds.......2005-12-28
As an excellent review of index fund investing, I give this book an A.
Tweddell and Pierce's book was one of the first books about index fund investing. They published this book in 1997, prior to the index fund 1999 peak in popularity.
They do an excellent job of explaining index mutual funds and why they are advantageous for most investors.
They point out the paradox that a person is better off seeking the help of an expert for most things including medical doctors, car mechanics, and plumbers. Financial advice is one area where seeking out experts is not necessarily the right way to increase your net worth.
The key point of their book is that most active fund managers can not beat the indexes due to higher costs. Another key point is that by adopting a buy-and-hold index fund strategy, investors will reap the returns of the stock market because they will quit their futile efforts at market timing. They point out that indexing is even more important in bonds because expenses of actively managed bond funds eat up a lower starting return for bonds than stocks.
They point out the importance of asset allocation and demonstrate how an indexing strategy can be used to implement your desired asset allocation strategy.
I would suggest companion books to supplement this book including The Richest Man in Babylon, Bogle on Mutual Funds, The Millionaire Next Door, The 4 Pillars of Investing, A Random Walk Down Wall Street, Wealth of Experience: Real Investors on what Works and What Doesn't, Index Mutual Funds: How to Simplify Your Life and Beat the Pros, The Coffeehouse Investor, and the Armchair Millionaire.
This is a very readable book on index investing........1999-02-02
I liked this book on its readability. I scanned a few other books on indexing; they were too dry for me.
Outstanding Introduction to Index funds.......1997-07-10
A great introduction to index funds. Two other texts that complement this book are John Bogle's "Bogle on Mutual Funds" and the seminal "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" by Burton Malkiel. The case against actively managed mutual (or pension) funds is persuasively presented by any of these three but the Tweddell/Pierce treatment is more practical. The only criticism is that its list of index funds is already out of date. Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, etc. have recently joined the fray and some funds have closed
I wish I had read something like this ten years ago........1997-05-10
Great book--readable, troubling, eye-opening. I wish that I had read something like this ten years ago
