Price Theory and its Applications is an authoritative collection of influential papers which illustrate with unusual force the uses and techniques of applied price theory. The collection includes articles by Nobel laureates as well as less well-known economists and covers North America, Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia. The articles selected display a variety of techniques from verbal exposition through geometric methods to sophisticated mathematical techniques such as optimal control theory and game theory. The first section of the book provides an insight into the diversity of market institutions. Some classic questions in market dynamics are addressed in section two, which is followed by a section on the rationale and consequences of government interventions. Various aspects of monopoly power are explored in the next three sections which cover cartels and monopolies, so-called 'natural monopoly' situations and monopolistically competitive markets. In conclusion a more light-hearted example is offered.

A scholarly review of Jewish texts that define sexuality........1999-01-17
Dr. Westheimer uses texts as diverse as Torah to Sephardic midrash from all ages to explain Jewish views and practices. In particular, she draws on biblical stories to illustrate laws and their contradictions. When appropriate she compares modern views from non-Orthodox rabbis to show in what ways Talmud practice has or has not adjusted over the years. As usual written from an utterly non-judgemental perspective, and as blunt in her stories and descriptions. A nice read to your partner on a Shabbat evening.
Not a good book if you are ORTHODOX........1998-11-16
I read this book and was appalled by the Orthodox bashing and the inordinate amount of time spent on Orthodoxy and how it handles closet homosexuality. She said nothing about appropriate sexual behavior according to halacha. Furthermore, although she spent some time on the Laws of Niddah, most of that time was spent exaggerating the problem of impotence or premature ejaculation as a possible problem of Orhtodox observance of sexual practice. I was so glad that I purchased "heavenly sex" in a used book store and paid a fraction of what the cover price because the book itself was a TREMEMDOUS DISAPOINTMENT. All I can say is Dr. Ruth is tremendously ignorant about Orthodox Judaism.
A great analysis of the relationship between sex and Judaism.......1998-07-10
This is a beautifully written and researched book. I would suggest it to anyone who is interested in Judaism, and especially its attitude toward sex. Dr. Ruth's main argument is that sex is a very integral part of Judaism. Although sometimes she seems to take that point too far, the book is nevertheless very interesting and educational. I especially loved the chapter on Sabbath. In a totally gorgeous language, the Jewish Sabbath is described as a great ceremony of seduction and sex. An enthusiastic two thumbs up!

Remember Grandma's cooking?.......1997-11-26
Mary Ann Esposito has dotted her collection of Italian-American recipes with stories from her childhood, reminding me of my own family's history. These recipes are practical, requiring easily found ingredients, written in an explanatory style. There are many little "hints" to turning out the dish in fine style, serving suggestions, new ways to incorporate Italian cooking methods into everyday meals. The Torta Nuziale (Wedding Cake) is a masterpiece! Buttermilk, almond oil, hazelnuts, coconut combine to create a dense cake that will become a family favorite. The cream cheese icing is easy and tasty. Sra. Esposito has given us a handbook of Italian-American cooking, spiced with her personal stories. It is a combination that makes for good reading.

When I received "Celebrations, Italian Style", I was so very overwhelmed with fond and wonderful memories of my mother. The explanations of the special holidays/celebrations were exactly as I remembered them as a child growing up. These recipes produce the same mouth-watering aromas that used to fill the whole house. You knew the minute you approached the house that Mama was cooking up something special. Each time I prepare one of these recipes, I feel my mother is right there beside me. When I read this book I am completely absorbed by the foods, the smells and the traditions that I hope to pass on to my own children. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to be taken back to recapture their favorite Italian memories. Enjoy!!

Good Book, but author/publisher was smoking something.......2006-09-24
when they priced the product.
I already own Arzac's book which is excellent for valuation, but I was looking for a more comprehensive book covering other aspects of M&A.
Book contains some good material, but the price for the book is too high without a CD-ROM offering supplemental spreadsheets and other information. Table of Contents is very deceiving.
At best, the book's material is worth $100 and, as such, I am returning it for a refund.
I will go with either Brunner's book (with CD-ROM) or DePamphilis' book which also includes a CD-ROM.
Terrific Investment Banking Reference.......2006-04-21
I purchased this on the advise of a professor with over 20 years experience in the banking industry. It is the best reference text that I have come across in a long time.
I recommend this book to any MBA student who is pursuing a career in investment banking. This comprehensive reference describes investment banking concepts and practices in a manner that is clear and easy to understand. It has been very relevant to the real-time, case-based instruction at my MBA program. Buy it and save yourself a few trips to the full time associate's cubicle this summer, or at least gain a basic understanding of a complicated topic before you go running for help.
