Very Surprising.......1999-07-03

I very rarely review a book. However, in this case, I felt I should offer a forewarning to those who may consider purchasing this book. If you are like me, after receiving it, you will wonder why it cost as much as it does! There is nothing in this book that can not be obtained online and elsewhere in very little time. The bulk of the book is a listing of the companies included in various indexes (e.g., S&P 100) and companies sorted by industry sector. There's nothing wrong with the book; I just don't understand how the content supports the price. Personally, I would be embarrassed to sell this book at this price.

Mr. Carroll has put together an extremely helpful stock trading reference resource geared toward the day trader, yet useful to even casual investors. The guide is compact, easy to carry around and organized by industry which allows the user to obtain information quickly and easily. If you are a frequent trader or simply "in the market", this is an invaluable resource.

Clever book!.......2004-01-13

I will never look at grocery shopping the same way after reading this book. Suzy's ideas for saving money at the store, using what you have to make a meal, and quick easy food preparation will be very useful to people on a limited budget--or for anyone else, for that matter. Suzy shows her readers that you don't have to be Wolfgang Puck to be creative in the kitchen.
I especially enjoyed the chapter about shopping strategies--the money I'll save will pay for the book many times over. I look forward to her next book!

Ok, I may be biased, as I edited and formatted Suzy's book, and it is dedicated to me. Nonetheless, I can say with confidence that this is a clever, fun, and USEFUL little book. (Don't take "little" as pejorative. It is long enough to convey a lot of good information and inspiration, and short enough to read easily and to slip into a pocket if you wish.)

This is not so much a "cookbook" as it is a Mom's-eye-view of the strategy and tactics of feeding a family inexpensively, with variety, and creatively. Yes, Suzy offers some specific tips on how to make particular dishes, but more importantly, she helps you unleash your own imagination with ingredients you have on hand or can easily pick up in a quick shopping trip. She helps you to see ways to use the odds and ends you may have in the cupboard or fridge if you have to make do in a pinch, and opens your eyes to making frugal but good choices in the grocery store.

The minute I saw the first couple of chapters in draft form, I was convinced that this would be a terrific book, and I am not at all disappointed with the result. EVERYONE who sees it wants it for themselves and to give to friends and family.

Too Broke to Shop and Can't Cook Anyhow is a wonderful gift for your college-age son or daughter, for twenty-somethings living on their own, or for anyone else who could use some really PRACTICAL ideas on cooking both for home and for taking to a potluck. A GOOD START FOR BEGINNERS.......2000-07-09

This is one of two books which I would always recommend for beginners. There is a well prepared questionaire that lets you know if futures trading is for you or not. It helps to bring a lot of basic concepts about the market, choosing a broker, CTA etc. down to a simple easy understandable way.

Even experienced traders would find it quite helpful, especially the section that deals with the overview of several markets. This is really useful material in deciding on which markets to trade and their particular tendencies.

Not terribly well-written........1999-09-05

The book provides some useful information, but is written in such a way that the novice will find impossible to follow. The introductory chapters are particularly atrocious, and plunged right into the middle of things without so much as defining the terms and explaining the basic concepts.

But for someone who already knows the basics of futures trading, this can be a useful summary of the various markets.

Excellent Summary of a Complex Subject.......1999-07-27

I bought this book when I was deciding on whether or not to get started in futures trading. I was not disappointed. Wasendorf & McCafferty clearly walk through the process of trading futures in enough detail to help you understand what its all about but the book is not overly full of jargon or complex snooze producing theory. Might be a bit too simple for very experienced traders but on the whole a great read.

If you are looking to begin trading in the commodity futures market, get this book. It is the best that I've seen on the subject. It is very clear and well written. Take notes as you read it. Start trading on paper and use this as a reference for a few months and you'll be ready

Caution newcomers to options trading:

This book tries to cover the wide field of both futures and stock option trading in under 200 pages. There is no step-by-step explanation of the mechanics of option trading that a newby to option trading will require. If you have the financial resources to even consider options trading, you can afford to spend a few dollars extra and buy the classic "Options as a Strategic Investment" by Lawrence McMillan. There are good reasons why this book sold over 100,000 copies. As a newcomer to options I found its approach far more methodical and understandable than "All about Options from the Inside Out", which will be retired to a remote corner of my library.

If you want to know how Mitt Romney approaches business this is a valuable book to read.

Mitt Romney was doing really well in the business world until his dear wife Ann told him that God had been good to them and now it was time to give back. Romney did just that and turned around the Olympics. After that challeng he sorted out Massachusettes and now he has got his eye on the White House.

If you're American and qualified to vote you've got to read this book to find out who Mitt Romney is. A lot of people crticize him because of his faith. This guy has a great relationship with his wife, a great family, has been very successful in business and politics too. The President of the USA should be a man for everyone to look up at. Don't most people dream of being happily married to a beautiful woman, have great kids, become a Millionaire and then President of the USA? Maybe Mitt Romney is the man for the White House...read this book and it will help you decide!

Budget Inversion.......2007-09-04

Amazing what Mitt Romney can do with numbers. If in doubt, do without. He pulled the 2002 winter games off on a no frills budget and turned a scandal into a triumph.

It seems he gets so much grief just because he is a Mormon, but I'm amazed at what he can do and mostly impressed by his get up and go, can do attitude. His wife says he loves emergencies and crisis situations of any kind. He turns the financing of the games from a huge millions of dollars deficit into a millions of dollars profit. Throughout the whole crisis leading up to the games, he made it the mission of the whole team to be honest and forthright with each other and the public. It's blatantly apparent that he always makes an honest million and demands integrity of his team whoever they be. This book was truly inspirational in many ways. If you don't want to read the book or even hate Mitt Romney, at least read the "Prologue" and the first chapter. I love the story of the American flag from the World Trade Center bombing being brought into the Olympic stadium during opening ceremonies. It's really awesome!

There have been other budget inversions in our nation's history. The most remarkable one happened on the eve of this country's founding and was repaired by Alexander Hamilton, our nation's first Treasury Secretary. That tale is best told by Forrest McDonald in his biography of Hamilton.

These are great stories and must reads for government financiers!

I would never vote for Mitt Romney, and I hope he does not win. He is so full of himself and will lie just to get votes.

With a title like "turnaround" I was expecting Mitt to explain why he has reversed all of his positions on abortion, sexuality etc just in time for the Republican nomination.

Unfortunately not.

This book is about a simpler time when Mitt did not have to reverse or hide all of his principles in order to seek higher office. It tells the story of his rescue of the Olympic Games. It is actually quite good (although Mitt takes a LOT of the credit for things that others did). Unfortunately, it also reflects on the "old" Mitt rather than the Mitt 2.0 who is running for the nomination today...

An excellent guide to truly understanding the numbers.......1998-11-07

As someone who works in investment banking, I can say this book is applicable to much more than just due diligence. It can help an analyst through most financial analysis situations(assuming the user knows the basics of how to use and analyze financial statements). What's best about the book is that it goes beyond the theory and academic stuff and gets down to real "how-to's" and "why's". He goes through every account that would appear on the three major financial statements and explains what to look for in them, how to find the answer if it's not readily apparent, what questions to ask and why the questions are important. He also thoroughly examines off-balance sheet, off-income statement and qualitative items that are essential to analysis. Beware, there are no numbers or examples to work through in this book. This book is quite literally one man's experience and intuition put into written form. If you understand that financial analysis is not as cut-and-dry as looking at well-prepared, fully forthcoming financial statements with all the info you need already given, then this book is just what you are looking for. It helps you get the right numbers to which you can apply meaningful financial analysis.
