Staying Power works..........2006-01-02

Staying Power is written for senior level executives yet has nuggets for managers at all levels. Book was a smooth and easy read. It is broken down into 3 sections: 1) Career Pathing, 2) Personality and 3) Management Style. Lot's of excellent examples and career "rules." Thumbs up.

Success Lessons Not Found in a Text Book.......2003-11-27

Staying Power is a must read for anyone who plans to acheve success. As a high school marketing teacher, I have applied many conecpts to my own life and shared them with my students.The book brings some very important "success-based" concepts that are not normaly taught, unless by the "school of hard knocks." The book is easy to read, unlike most books of its kind. I highly recomend it.

A Timely Book for Trying Times.......2003-05-03

This is a great book. Have you ever wondered why some colleagues carreers seem to be blessed. They seemingly can do no wrong. They seem to have spectacular rises. Moving from one promotion to the next, seemingly effortlessly. When they do encounter obstacles and setbacks or seem stymied, they some how mangage to sidestep it or often it turns to their advantage. These executives seem invincible. Is it just dumb luck or is there something at work here? Tom Schweich has some answers. Continuing in vein of his earlier books Tom has taken things a step further. He has gone out and interviewed some of the most successful people of our time and distilled the essence of their successes. Like his other books though he has plenty of war stories from mainstream business world. What I liek about htis book, though is that it does go outside the corporate world. He interview some exotics. There are rock divas and politicians. It's great reading, enjoyable, and written in a clear organised style that you may be familiar with in his previous books. You don't need to be an executive to enjoy and benefit form this book. There are enough universal principles expounded for anyone.
A very timely book for the difficult economic times we're headed into.

Incidentally don't pay attention to the 1 star review. It's about nursing book....

Best 100% whole wheat bread .......2007-02-22

When I've made 100% WW bread in the past it's been too crumbly and gritty. We grind our own wheat in the Vita Mix so I thought that was why. I tried ingredients that other books have suggested like citrus acid and some gluten flour but still no joy. This recipe for "Old Fashioned 100% Whole Wheat Bread" is sooooo great I'll use it forever! If your looking to use whole wheat and honey this is the best. Then I made the Eggplant, Pepper, and Artichoke Torta and it came out perfect and looking just like the picture. The taste was superb!

This is not your ordinary bread book. It specializes in alternate flours like Millet, Quinoa, whole grains, and various seeds that can be bought at your local Whole Foods Market. It is a refreshing change of pace from everyday breads. My first recipe was the Dakota bread with ancient grains. My wife and her coworkers voted it the best bread that I'd ever made, and I've made some damn good breads from some great bread books. be warned that most of the recipes are elaborate and time consuming and require ingredients not available evrywhere.

More like 2 Star Futures.......2003-06-29

The book started with so much promise and unfortunately, just fizzled out with very basic, very vague and ineffective TA. Just a very basic primer on moving average crosses, reversal and entry bar patterns, stochastics, MACD, OBV and some other minor items. I did find the Lindahl buy/sell pattern setup to be fairly unique .. though hardly remarkable.

Five Star Futures Trades.......2001-02-16

This book helped me in several aspects. 1. It helped keep me from over trading (my weakness) 2. It helped me to determine if a move counter to trend was likely to succeed or fail. 3. It has helped my profitability. Yes there are only a few major turns every year, but Alexander also discusses "how to enter a rapidly moving market." This adds to the number of trades one can do with this "system." Other reviews are correct, it is not for the day trader. I did have to read it three or four times and marked it up pretty good. I have three different software programs and found the things from the book could be programmed into Metastock Explorers and Advisors (my lower end software) with some, but not too much, effort.

Too Complex.......2000-01-26

In all honesty, I didn't try the system or even try to test it. The entry consists of a checklist of 24 chart-based technical indicators or conditions for both weekly and daily prices-- thus 48 items in all. These are explained, sometimes clearly and sometimes vaguely in 19 chapters. Altogether, it is one of the most complex systems ever published. Though it may or may not work, its "kitchen sink" approach makes it too complex to understand well, and if there is one requirement for a good trading system, it is that the trader should be able to comprehend what he is doing and why at all times. If it starts to fail, you will never know why. While each of the technical methods presented is sound, Alexander's use of all of them at once makes for a mess rather than a good system.

Under capitalized trend followers: BEWARE.......1999-07-12

The author is not as is claimed above, innovative in any sense of the word. Forget about the horrible reputation Windsor books has for one moment if you can. Let me point out one small detail the author forgets to mention in this waste of paper under the guise of a "book". You need at least a miilion dollars to properly trade a good trend following system. Quite a few people I am sure will become upset upon reading this. To them I can say, I hope you don't put you're life savings into your futures acount. This is a tough business. And if you are thinking that good trend following systems consist of moving average crossovers and all the other useless indicators commercial packages consist of; than I have another thing to say to you, I hope you have already paid of the mortgage on your house. Please people, leave trading to those who have the brains, time, and resources to do it right.

Not enough stars to give this book the credit it deserves........1999-06-03

This book is basically a filter system designed for long term trend trading. Its goal is to keep you riding a long term trend, avoid the whipsaws, and keep you from trading too much. Not a system for people who like to day trade. It does however have a section dedicated to timing entries and exits with 60 minute intraday charts; But, thats just an option, intraday is not necessary to make system work. You will need a computer w/software that allows you to customize the length of various indicators, and end of day chart service(if you don't plan on using the 60 min. intraday timing methods) going back at least two years. A subscription to some historical monthly charts are also very useful. Shows you the big picture w/monthly, weekly and daily analysis. Definately worth adding to your library.

Best investment I ever made.......2007-09-05

As a single mother of 4 children, having entered the workforce for the first time at age 41, with almost $200,000 in student loan debt, I found this book to be a lifesaver. It walks you through the steps of researching good companies in which to invest, buying the stock certificates (one at a time, if that's all you can afford!) and the logistics of selling them. The best part is that it's in plain English. You don't have to have an MBA to understand it. There was no way I could ever have hired all the help I found in this little book.

Best Primer for the Novice Investor.......2005-11-28

I have read Bobbie's book and followed her advice. Over the last 2 1/2 years my investment portfolio has risen approx 20%. This books gives you the information you need to get started investing in stock. It is logical and easy to read. I feel part of the American dream. It will enhance my retirement. This is a must have for every new stock investor!!!!!

Horribly written cynical book full of misinformation.......2004-11-03

It's true that this book does include some decent basic investing advice. Unfortunately the writing is so disjointed, condescending, and, honestly, just plain BAD that you might not make it that far. It is also full of advertisements for their other books. It truly scares me that Mrs. Christensen also teaches a class on how to write and publish books.

I can sum up the semi-useful parts of the book and keep you from the cynicism, misinformation, and bad writing that fills the rest of the 138 pages:
1) Use common sense to pick a stock to buy. Buy stock in a big company that you know and that produces things that we can't function without (necessities).
2) Do some research about long-term trends of the company.
3) But the stock directly through the company (if possible) and invest in a Dividend Re-Investment Program (DRIP).
5) INVEST CONSITENTLY, invest for the long term, and increase the amount you investment over time if you can. (This is probably the only REALLY useful thing the book says.)
6) Pay your taxes.

If you still find yourself drawn to this book, skip to page 71 ("How to find the right stock"). If you start there and take everything with a grain of salt at least you'll be bypassing some of the worst parts of the book and skipping to the (very slightly) meatier section.

extremely practical.......1999-07-31

I found this book to be a practical handbook for the average person to take their future finances in their own hands and simply do something for themselves without long and tedious information or classroom situations. It is necessary for all people to be responsible for their financial future reguardless of their current status and this book is the one which walks it's talk.

From full page photographs of the daunting & beautiful landscape over which they trod, to the expedition's supply list.

This is a magnificent book brimming with artifacts and illustrations to support the well researched text, and little known facts about Sacagawea and her Lemhi Shoshone people that helped me understand her in a way I never had before. This is a book to keep on your coffee table for the entire Lewis and Clark bicentennial 2003-2006. You and your visitors can open it up to any chapter or sidebar and be immediately taken back in time, enjoying the story because of its rich details and friendly style and poring over the illustrations. A beautiful volume that young and old will want to read and reread. I was delighted to find it.

The narration in this book is nothing extraordinary, but it is indeed the LOOK of the book that makes it so special. Gorgeous photography and other artwork that really bring the topic alive and make this book stand out. Also, a very nice discussion of each of the Corps of Discovery members at the end of the book. This one's a keeper!

As a reader and relative of Sacagawea,I couldn't be more pleased with this book in both content and presentation. I feel that Joyce Hunsaker has gotten to the heart of this woman,and her place in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. She's presented us with a wonderful gift. The photographs, charts, maps, Bodmer and Catlin paintings included are the best and most complete I've ever seen. Even the footnotes are fascinating! You honor my family, and all of us in America, where the world lives, Joyce. Mitakuye oyasin!
