Interesting and concise read. I enjoyed it but my only qualm is that there are various typos and grammatical errors in the book. Maybe I'm picky because I've done a lot of proofing in my profession but it was very annoying when I came across an error...

Author and consultant Susan Wilson Solovic tells how working women can be more effective in top positions and move up the career ladder. She highlights the differences between male and female styles and cites ways that women often sabotage themselves by showing weakness and a lack of confidence in how they speak and act. Using examples and diverse quotes, she illustrates what women should do to express the power they have, which is the key to being taken seriously as a leader. Solovic challenges many overly optimistic beliefs about how things have changed for women in the U.S. workforce and backs up her assertions with recent statistics and research. Susan Solovic's "The Girls' Guide to Power and Success" puts it right back in our laps. We have to make the changes in our expectations and behavior. She provides the motivation and the tools.

Little has changed in the last 50 years except that there are more women in titled positions. With these titles came no change in the lack of independence from male persuasion in decision making. We're still doing it their way.

Time for women to step up to the plate, read Solovic's book and march to our own drummers.

I have tried to catch Ms. Robinson's t.v. shows when I was able. Having grown up poor and having to make ends meet by stretching the food, you appreciate any attempt to liven up the meals. Ms. Robinson has done this very well. I enjoy her, and I enjoy the book.

One of my favorite episodes of Sara Moulton's cooking show featured the author and included a visit to her childhood home. I was THRILLED that Ms. Robinson washed her green leafy vegetables in warm water. What a shame such wisdom (do Americans even know the term "nightsoil" anymore???) has been disregarded in the wake of carnival barkers who demonstrate their cooking ability by ripping open a bag of greens (prewashed, My Aunt Fanny!) and cooking raw meat straight from their styrofoam and plastic packaging. Ewwwww, you know no amount of cooking heat can clean that up. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

They write books about everything, don't they?.......2007-09-26

In case anyone would say "Why are you reviewing this trash?" the answer is that this reviewer is a fan of all United States Presidents. Plenty of eliminations take place before someone becomes President of the United States. Even the worst had some good qualities. Now for the book. It's been out for a few years and it was read entirely back then. The newspapers and history books had already told us plenty about Bill Clinton, John Kennedy, Franklin Roosevelt, Warren Harding, Woodrow Wilson and Grover Cleveland. In this book nobody escapes scrutiny. Since all Presidents were married men with the exception of James Buchanan, how well they kept marriage vows is the subject of this book. James Buchanan was appartenly heartbroken over a relationship with a woman early in life and never managed to marry. Truman and some other Presidents come across well in the marriage virtue department. Is the book recommended for the average person to read? No. But it is difficult for fans of Presidents not to read it if they know about it. Presidents, regardless of difficult private lives, showed great leadership and courage when called for.

An amazing account.......1999-12-16

I thought this might be a tabliod type expose, but to my delight, it really is a thorough, factual work. Each and every president is covered and the historic research is evident. Many sections are dry and boring only because those presidents weren't particularly sex driven men. But the notable exceptions like Lyndon "Bull Nuts" Johnson, Jack Kennedy and others make this an eye opening and shocking account of what our presidents really are doing behind closed doors. After reading this book, you want to give this country back to King George! 5 stars to Nigel for his tireless research and fact finding.

An Historical National Enquirer of Information.......2004-12-28

As a nation, we Americans are a prudish lot when it comes to sex scandals in politics. The information in this book, presented chronologically, will shock many people who think that revelations about recent presidents are scandalous and that past presidents were all either faithful husbands (some were) or sexless paragons of virtue. Not only is this untrue, but Bill Clinton's pecadilloes will seem small in comparison to those of some of his predecessors in the Oval Office. From the early experiences of the mythic George Washington to the charges of bigamy which haunted the wife of Andrew Jackson to the musical beds during FDR's administration, this book will raise eyebrows.

Not that it should, mind you; it proves that Presidents are just as human as anyone else. We are actually better off for that.

Also worth owning for the photo inside of JFK shaking hands with a very young Bill Clinton.

Rather topical, to coin a phrase.......1999-04-02

This book ought to stay in print, not just because of Bill Clinton's escapades (or because of recent revelations about Thomas Jefferson) but because it is very entertaining. A good one to dip into and select incidents from, to amuse friends on a quiet (or not so quiet) night.

A Heroic Life.......2003-10-20

This is a book that comes straight from the heart. It is about a mother's heroic struggle over many years to help her developmentally-challenged son, whose immune system has apparently been severely damaged by a chemical intended for termites. This voyage through many years of treatment, through false starts, frustrating encounters with ignorant school teachers and officials, is also a spiritual journey that leads to encounters with forces of evil that seem otherworldly. All of this leads to shocking ending that no reader could expect. Highly recommended.

This is a very fascinating book, brings out the loving relationship of Bill and Sarah Bryce with their highly gifted son Malcom who suffered from a severe nervous disorder.
The book tells of their acquaintance with a physical therapist through whose help and encouragement they were able to help their son deal with the problems he faced.
Thru this book and our friendship with the Bryces, I was put in touch with the therapist, Ed Snapp. By treatment in his clinic I have benefited greatly in my battle with a periferal nerve disease.

I read Sarah Bryce's "Do Butterflies Have Spare Parts" and cried and laughed and got mad with the medical community and ached as the parents and family struggled through this painful ordeal. Sarah Bryde has opened up an avenue for us who have "different" children and with education and books like this maybe we can bring more understanding and healing to multitudes that need it.
The book was the most loving and sincere and showed the love of a family, striving to stay intact under difficult circumstances. I highly recommend the book to any one who wants to understand human differences.
