I used this book for a credit and payment class I was taking, and it proved to have way more information than I needed. If you are in an area of law where you need all of the articles and regulations in the Uniform Commercial Code, then this volume has everything you need. Very thorough.

        4 out of 5 stars Thoughtful.......2007-01-12

This was a thought provoking book. Unfortunately it doesn't tell you what your mission in life should be! However it does put into words approaches that are useful as you try to find your own purpose.
It was pretty short and relatively expensive for what you got!

2 out of 5 stars Its short and brief and not very helpful.......2006-10-17

The key in the book is How to Find your Mission in Life, well after reading this thing several times, I found it as unhelpful as the first read. Quite honestly it is full of feel good platitudes, which are not only Christian, and no roadmap. If you really want to find your mission perhaps try the other book, Parachute, the 2007 edition is superb.

5 out of 5 stars Read this book and you don't need to read all of the others.......2006-09-24

It really speaks to you. To answer the criticism of some, if you aren't a Christian, sub any other higher power.

5 out of 5 stars Finding Value and Peace in the Workplace.......2004-04-24

This book in written with numerous references to the Christian Bible. The author is writting through his christian backgound and using christianity as his vocabulary. This is not to say that people of other faiths or no faith could not find value in this book. As he is writting in "big picture", "macro" terms it would be impossible to do so without using "God" terms.

The book is simple and profound at the same time. It's basic premise is to find your greatest value and to see it as your place of vocation.

He states that there are 3 stages in finding your mission in life. The first is to connect with your God; the second is to do what you can to make the world a better place. My favorite is the third phase: a)"execise that Talent which you particulary came to earth to use -- your greatest gift which you most delight to use". b)"in the place(s) or setting(s) which God has caued to appeal to you and the most" and c) and for the purposes which God most needs to have done in the world".

I do not see what some reviewers have stated that it boiled down to waiting on some inspiration or spiritual leading. I especially liked the example of being as medical doctor and working in a leper colony. It has to be a match that is helpful for both sides or you will not be happy and will have missed your mission in life.

5 out of 5 stars Meditative Vocational Advice.......2003-07-08

I purchased this book two years ago and read it through, but it didn't impact me very much. I just pulled it out again to reread and was deeply moved by the author's conviction about the spiritual nature of life. Even if one has strong spiritual convictions, it is all too easy to compartmentalize work, family, friends, and spiritual life. Bolles reminded me of the "integrity" of integrated life and work. Although it is very short, this book should not be a quick read, rather, it is something to meditate on.

5 out of 5 stars A great intro to the stock market.......2007-07-10

Forget 'Hedge Funds' for a moment - - this is a great book for introducing you to stocks, shares, buying and selling - ie, the whole business of the stock market.

The bonus is that the last 2-3 chapters, which finally get around to looking at Hedge Funds, are really clear and helpful.

          Most useful.

          5 out of 5 stars A real winner.......2007-07-03

In the realm of how-to books, "All About Hedge Funds" by Dr. Robert Jaeger is a real winner. Instructive, analytical and easy to read, it brings down to earth an investment tool that has long been a mystery to me and many others. The author, for more than 20 years the chief investment officer of a well-respected hedge fund, explains in a clear insightful style risk assessment, hedging techniques and many other facets of this intriguing method of investing. He includes the historical background which has shaped the hedge fund we know today. I found the book invaluable.

5 out of 5 stars good industry introduction - good value.......2007-06-28

I've recommended this book many times to people who are new to working in the hedge fund industry. Though it's a couple of years old, it's a very readable overview of what hedge funds are about and how they work. Unlike many hedge fund books on the market, this one is both reasonably priced and useful.

5 out of 5 stars Great intro to hedge funds and investment mgmt.......2007-02-01

I was looking for an introduction to hedge funds and found this book to be great as it builds up your knowledge starting at ground level with many comparisons between hedge funds and mutual funds and then it delves deeper into the specifics and peculiarities of hedge funds themselves including shorting, leverage, and other tactics.

1 out of 5 stars Nothing about Hedge Funds.......2007-01-27

Page 181 of this 309-page book starts with: "We have spent a lot of time looking at investment issues related to hedge funds: investment objectives, strategies, techniques, and so forth. The next few chapters take a brief look at some of the business and operational issues that arise in the hedge fund world." Finally! Well, page 205 hurries back to "The Menu of Hedge Fund Strategies" about longs and shorts, stocks and bonds and indexes and volatility. Why a publisher would cheat his readers with a title like "All about Hedge Funds" for what is just some investor's handbook is beyond me. Imagine considering serious participation in such fund and the term "Private Placement Memorandum" isn't even mentioned once in this book. Probably the author never heard of it: he intended to write about investing and did, but, discouraged by the crowded market in these books, shuffled in 23 pages about hedge funds so he could rename his book. I fell into the trap, make sure you don't.

                        Book Description

A view of the mutual dependence between libraries and vendors

As technology advances, libraries are forced to reach beyond their own resources to find effective ways to maintain accuracy and superior service levels. Vendors provide databases and integrated library systems that perform those functions for profit. Library/Vendor Relationships examines the increasing cooperation in which libraries find they must participate in, and vice versa, with the vendors that provide system infrastructure and software. Expert contributors provide insights from all sides of this unique collaboration, offering cogent perspectives on the give and take process that every librarian, publisher, and database provider/producer can use.

The symbiosis between libraries and vendors of databases relies heavily upon open communication to achieve each one's beneficial results. Library/Vendor Relationships explores this partnership between profit and nonprofit entities in detail, focusing on issues of crucial importance for both sides. A variety of diverse types of libraries and vendors give voice to the multitude of issues facing them. Several charts, graphs, and other helpful visuals are included.

                        Topics in Library/Vendor Relationships include:

options for preventing systematic downloading of material

benefits and challenges of delivering products on multiple platforms—using the American Psychological Association's experiences as a case study

book vendors' efforts to help libraries become more efficient

comprehensive online support services to help increase interaction between libraries and academic publishers

Anatolian University Libraries Consortium's effective relationship with vendors

publisher and vendor use of library advisory boards to provide needed feedback

a review of the database marketplace

fostering a good relationship between library and vendor

the future of government libraries in an increasingly technological age

                        collaboration in standards development

                        integrated ecommerce

the relationship between OCLC and member institutions

libraries' position between commerce and science

                        vendor/community college library relationships

This digital document is a journal article from Library Collections, Acquisitions and Technical Services, published by Elsevier in 2004. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

                                  Description:
Vendor records are one of the key components underpinning the acquisitions record in the integrated library system. Acquisitions and collection development practitioners increasingly need to record, access, and manipulate acquisitions vendor metadata for purposes not foreseen by the architects of current generation ILSs. The authors posit that vendor records can serve as an appropriate metaphor for the entire acquisitions record in the development of standards. The analysis of data elements and proposed grouping into fields, records, and metarecords suggests a direction for further development and enhanced functionality. The authors call on librarians, systems vendors, and materials vendors to engage in a dialog aimed at creating an accepted standard for vendor records that will meet the needs of all parties.

I knew God would use Glenn's story someday for His glory. For years, I pushed the thought of writing a book away, somehow knowing it would only happen after Glenn was gone. Five days after Glenn died, my mind began working in a mysterious way. Typing the words each morning at dawn, I felt the presence of God as He wove my story together like a beautiful tapestry. Anyone who suffers from the painful loss felt at the birth of a child with special needs, the heartache of a broken marriage, or the devastation of experiencing the death of a child will find healing and hope by reading Glenn's story. God's miracles in Glenn's life will touch hearts and bring assurance of His incredible love to believers and unbelievers. Walking through my grief with the Lord has been a precious and healing time for me. Only He has given me the strength to go on without Glenn.

                                          5 out of 5 stars A Blessing.......2003-07-07

Glenn's story is truly one only God could write. You will truly see the joy of the Lord in Glenn's life. A true testimony of what God can do no matter what the obstacles in our lives. All our trials and tribulations all bring us back to HIM. Glenn's life was a true example of God's love. Through joy and pain Glenn never stopped loving the Lord. All that knew Glenn have been blessed by knowing him. The rain will always bring joyous memories of my nephew Glenn DeBusk! Thunder not only shows Gods power, but much joy to a young man....Glenn loved rain and thunder. Now when I hear thunder and rain I can't help but think Glenn has been put in charge of that!

5 out of 5 stars Son's death book of heartache, joy.......2003-07-07

Losing a child is one of the most devastating events that can happen to a parent.

Helplessly watching a son or daughter grow weaker day by day while in your care is, perhaps, even harder.

Debra Hobbs was able to work through her grief by writing a book after her son Glenn DeBusk died in 2001 from a debilitating bone disease.

The book, "Heaven in His Eyes" has gotten some attention from booksellers and readers alike since it was published by PublishAmerica.

Hobbs said she dropped a copy of the book off at Borders in February, when the book first came out, and was invited to do a reading from it in May. She has since returned to do a second reading at Borders.

Borders manager Sue Skaggs said she was so inspired by Hobbs' book that she organized a book signing at the Relay for Life on July 11 and 12 at the West High track.

Proceeds from the sale of the book that weekend will go to the American Cancer Society.

"Heaven in His Eyes" is also available at Borders and both Bible Book Store locations.

"It's been an incredible thing to witness because so many people have reacted so positively to the book," Hobbs said.

She wrote of mornings when she cried herself awake and nights when she cried herself back to sleep.

She spoke of the numbness after Glenn's death and the wonder of his life.

The book is written with simplicity and courage. Never does it read as if Hobbs is seeking sympathy or pity. It is written just as Hobbs speaks of her son -- with unconditional love.

"His life was so special," Hobbs said. "I always knew that, after he died, I'd write a book about him. I started writing it five days after he died. It's a wonderful story, and writing it was an incredible experience."

Through the 220-page paperback book, Hobbs weaves her own story and that of her family, which includes Glenn's father, Marion; Debra's husband, Eric; and Glenn's half-siblings, Justin and Jolie. Faith is a major part of Hobbs' life and is a big part of the book.

The book is written in journal style, capturing the heartache Hobbs endured in the days after Glenn's death and the joy she experienced with him in life. Each chapter begins with a date and a time of day, usually early morning.

At the heart of the story is a mother's love for her son. She captures moments from Glenn's life with an uncanny attention to detail as if she had all the scenes in her head and merely had to write them down.

"One day I watched Glenn through the patio door as he was walking around in the rain," Hobbs wrote. "He was splattering his shoe in a small puddle in the rain, reaching both hands up to 'catch the rain.' "

Hobbs first discovered that Glenn was blind when he was 2 years old.

His medical problems in-creased until, at the age of 5, he was diagnosed with osteopetrosis, a rare genetic bone disease.

When he was 13, Glenn developed scoliosis and had to wear a back brace to prevent further curvature of his spine.

Eventually, he had to use a wheelchair, then became bedridden for the final year of his life.

Hobbs quit her job to care for her son until his death in June 2001, just shy of his 22nd birthday.

Soon after her first book came out, Hobbs began writing her second, which picks up where the first book left off. In it, Hobbs said, she explores the world of book publishing and the excitement of getting your first book published.

Hobbs said she was always good in English, but never dreamed she'd write a book. Six months after Glenn's death, Hobbs signed a contract with PublishAmerica.

"It's been exciting to have new people come into my life," she said.

Some of the numerous e-mails she's received from people who have read her book noted that hearing how Hobbs dealt with Glenn's death is helping them deal with their pain.

One person wrote, "I couldn't put the book down! What a gift you've given in honor of your son. I think losing a child is
probably the worst experience a mother can go through. Your book gave me great comfort."

I thought the book would be more about the boy. It is merely a diary of the mother and how much she cried. I was very disappointed and thought the story would be focused on the boy and how he felt during the last few weeks of his life.
