I had to choose a book for a report in college. The book had to be something that would help us in our lives and has to do with the psychology class I am taking. After reaading this book, it was so incredible, that I have used the information in my life and have already seen such a happy change in my own life. It helped me in my business and in my personal relationships. It is set up to do this by following the ten steps to practice for the rest of your life. It is easy reading and it is so easy to get started changing your life also. I highly recommend this book for any person that is interested in improving their relationships through a self-help book. If I could buy everyone this tape, I would.......2005-03-14

The methods used in "Napoleon Hill's Keys to Positive Thinking" are relatively simple at first blush but oh, so powerful. The system works on the proven principle that if you put on a mental smile, soon you will have something to smile about.

The keys in each chapter include self-help tests. The tests are organized so that the "A" answer is the avoidance answer (you are avoiding dealing with the issue), the "B" answer is the negative answer (you are taking a combative approach or expect others to solve the problem for you) and the "C" answer is the positive mental attitude approach (you take action to solve your problem in a positive way.) While this seems silly to know in advance which is the "right" answer, you will find yourself at first resonating with the "wrong" answer which really can seem quite reasonable and correct until you learn to modify your thinking.

Some of the techniques seem silly; putting up a picture of something you want to achieve or get, writing down words of qualities you want to develop, but if you were to follow these precepts conscientiously, you'd be very, very surprised how luck or fortune might seem to come your way--we often make our own "luck" or at least, it takes a positive attitude to recognize opportunity.

My favorite message in the tape is that even during a bad event, you can often find a positive element and capitalize on it. I've found that to be quite true, and when you look at the so-called silver lining in a bad turn in your life, you can not only recover, you can actually end up better off.

This is only a two tape series with a narrator outlining the principles, giving the self-test and making suggestions with segments of Mr. Hill's lectures pieced in. Sometimes the sound quality of Mr. Hill's portion is softer and less distinct than one would like, but that's my only quibble with this otherwise blameless self-help tape. If you know someone looking for a job, going through a time of transition or someone who just wants to get more out of life, give them (or yourself) this tape.

Before reading this book if i was to rate myself in terms of negative mental attitude from 1 to 10 10 being the worst i can rate myself to be 10, I started reading this book at a stage of my life when i was at the rock bottom, let me just say this that this Book answerd a lot of question that I had about myself, And this review shows that it is working! Read and have fun!

Nothing will change your life more than this. No "cheesey" stuff, no "psychobabble", just simple suggestions that can make life A LOT easier. Buy this book for yourself, and then the people you care about as well....as I'm doing right now! It's a fast read and you will smile. Trust me!

I never cooked Persian food until my boyfriend bought me this book. It has very easy instructions, it also tells you how to substitute dry and fresh spices. It is not Americanized in any way, but still very easy!

These are good recipes and are clearly written, but I think the prep and cooking time estimates are a little optimistic. Very good directions for cooking rice with the perfect golden crust.

Although I grew up in Bagh-e Ferdows in north Tehran and Gholam-Ali khan was a great cook, I never knew that Persian cooking had so many wonderful, low-carb, low-fat recipes for fish and kababs. This book is also full of regional recipes that have not been so delicately, and temptingly presented since the Safavids ruled Iran--and the recipes are healthy to boot. A must-have-book for every cook who is looking for new ideas and wants to eat healthy at the same time.

I bought this book after falling in love with the author's other book "New Food of Life: Ancient Persian and Modern Iranian Cooking and Ceremonies". However, compared to that, this book is hopeless. I suggest you purchase the above book instead of this one.. has a lot more receipes, ceremonies, etc.

This book would be fine for someone who is curious about Persian food, but wants a simplified version of it, but the food is not authentic. The author has changed the recipes to make them slightly easier to cook (except for the times when the recipes aren't clear), and has eliminated the need to search for a Persian market for special ingredients. Sadly, for people looking for really, really good Persian food, it is the special ingredients and extra work that make it the most delicious food in the world.

We bought this cookbook in hardback when we were first married shortly after it first came out and it is still one of our most frequently used favorites. We recently bought copies for our kids because they're always borrowing ours and we frequently have trouble tracking it down.

Two recipes worth the price of admission by themselves:
'Persian meat loaf' - still our favorite meatloaf after 40 years
'Grilled Chicken' - awesome - cook over charcoal the slower the better

I am Persian so I know how things should taste... In every recipe I tried one or more ingredients were missing. This book only makes me more reliant on long distant calls to mom. Don't waist your money. There are many other good books.

Great little recipe book.......2001-06-15

Although the text is a little dated (the book was originally printed in 1972), the recipes are classic. They are also easy to understand and to replicate. My favorites: beets with sour cream, mint, & garlic (I use sliced, canned beets and its become a standby with me) and Khoreshe Portagal (Chicken with Oranges and Spinach). This book has also inspired me to cook more with fruit. I highly recommend this little book. You will use it over and over again.

Love a Persian Kitchen.......2001-01-18

Though a new cook, I'd already grown tired of boring chicken dishes & pastas and wanted to try something new. I can't believe how tasty the recipes are in this book. When my dinner companion and I sat down to eat the Chicken in Pomegranate Sauce (chosen because the author said it was her favorite), we actually started laughing. It was so tasty it actually made us silly and we giggled while we ate (maybe because we couldn't believe I had produced this gem). I'm going to try the meatballs next. What an incredible book.

Beautiful Designs.......2006-02-02

Sasha's designs are timeless and traditionally beautiful. They would be well worth the knitting time & become lifetime wardrobe additions if not heirlooms. One slight drawback is that the specified yarns are not currently available. However most people who would knit such complex intarsia designs are probably expert knitters who can substitute appropriate yarns. The same applies to the size ranges of the patterns which are limited but could be customized by an experienced knitter. The book states that Sasha will send customized directions by request,and a few designs have kits to order on her website.

Stunning-A must have for knitters who love color and florals.......2005-03-03

This book is absolutely stunning. Yes, the patterns are only listed for one size and that caused me to delay ordering this item, however, once I did and reviewed it, it was apparent to me that most of the patterns are for a medium size, have a nice allowance and are drop shouldered with very little close fit.
Don't let this stop you from ordering however because the designer will adapt a pattern specifically to your specifications if you just email her and give her the measurements.

The yarn listed is given in British terms, so converting the amounts to use a different yarn may be a bit of a challenge. I ended up ordering a kit from the designer that will include all of the yarn-the price seems reasonable and not out of line if you tried to pick up the yarn on your own.

Have no doubts, buy this book and knit yourself a beautiful sweater!

This is a lovely book to look at, the designs are wonderful and there are many interesting patterns - and I would have given this book 5 stars except that no pattern has multiple sizing! And given that the garments aren't just the standard boxy shapes, it wouldn't be all that easy to modify for someone that doesn't happen to fit the size the pattern is written for. I would not buy this book unless it was heavily discounted because of this.

Sasha Kagan's "Country Inspiration".......2000-05-01

Sasha Kagan's "Country Inspirations, Knitwear For All Seasons", the latest inspirational offering from this well-known British knitwear designer, does not disappoint. Using the beautiful countryside around her rural Welsh home for inspiration, Ms. Kagan has created an exiting collection of knitwear. There is more than enough variation among the design offerings to delight even the most jaded home knitter. Ms. Kagan's stated aim is to interpret the seasons for knitters from Summer's full-blown roses to Winter's leaves and berries. Good full body shots of sweaters on attractive models with close-ups of interesting details are interspersed with photos of her botanical inspirations, making an effective presentation. Delightful line drawings accompany most of the designs, adding to the general creative air of this book. You feel as if somehow you are getting a private peek into the designer's personal notebook. The book's layout is both clear and colourful, pairing well-designed charts with helpful keys that provide just enough colour and stitch detail to make the actual knitting of these seemingly complex designs manageable. Helpful construction and stitch diagrams are provided where necessary, allowing the knitter to tackle unusual stitch or construction techniques, without the help of full-body charts. (There are knitters who find too much chart reading confusing.) Ms. Kagan's "Country Inspirations" are divided into 5 sections: Roses, Autumn Leaves, Meadow Flowers, Forrest Fruits and Cottage Gardens, with several different designs included under each heading. The shapes of the sweaters vary and clever pattern or stitch details are added to Ms. Kagan's signature colourwork motives, resulting in a sophisticated mix of both knitterly design and fashionable style. It is nice to see this kind of complex knitting paired with a sense of contemporary style and shape, rather than the more usual boxy drop-shouldered styling often seen with complex colour or pattern knitting. I liked the combination of simple intarsia designs with stitch and texture patterns, creating complex looking garments that are really simpler to knit than is apparent from the rich end result. If you don't feel like knitting a whole sweater, but are still inspired by the Welsh countryside, there are several afghan and pillow designs that will allow you to try out the combination of colour and stitch pattern without having to worry about complex shaping. The inspiration Ms. Kagan gains from her surroundings in Wales and the delight she experiences from a colourful piece of handknitted goods comes across in this collection. Even if you never knit a single design, as actually charted, this book is well worth owning for its inspirational qualities and delightful presentation. I suggest you add it to your collection of knitting books, now.

Warm and Colourful Knits.......2000-03-30

This is an excellent book for all knitters! It has wonderful warm colours and really nice patterns. I won't say anything about the instructions, I haven't tried any pattern yet. The pictures are good and show the patterns well. It is really hard to decide which pattern to begin with...

This is a detailed and moving look at what it means to work within the guts of a national political campaign. Joan Sullivan is honest about what she sees and bravely honest about herself. You come away from this well-written book with a real sense of optimism and hope for American democracy. And that's a pretty remarkable feat given that Sullivan worked for the losing Bill Bradley presidential bid. It says a lot about her that her passion and hope remain intact and doesn't feel all gooey and pollyanish. She is a very tough player. The book is a very fast read.

Sullivan tells it like it is........2003-01-21

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Ms. Sullivan's book is the accuracy with which she portrays the participants in her anecdotes. As I covered Bradley's campaign for Reuters, I came in contact with many of the players, and upon reading the book was struck by the generosity and penetration that were displayed in turns. Without overtly caricaturing her subjects, Ms. Sullivan has managed to emphasize many of the quirks that typify people on the campaign trail.

A fresh political voice.......2002-12-26

Joan Sullivan gives readers an inside look into presidential politics with all of its hopes, aspirations, and flaws. Sullivan joined Bill Bradley's 2000 presidential campaign as an advance team member. She writes about the nuts-and-bolts of choosing the right podium-not to ostentatious, but not too plain- to planning her own large scale event in New York and having to secure a site with just a few hours to spare. Sullivan writes in a very fresh non-politically jaded voice, yet sometimes languishing to quotes from political books. Sullivan also helps a reader appreciate a candidate who is on the losing side and the work that goes into bringing issues to the American voter as well as a face to Bill Bradley and all political candidates.

As a Guide, or to Reflect.......2002-12-18

As an advance person who has had the pleasure of working with many of the same people Joan Sullivan mentions in her book, I can personally testify to the truthfulness of "An American Voter." Sullivan describes the chaotic day of a political advance staffer better than anyone I have yet to read. If you are looking to do advance work, read this as a guide. If you are an advance person, read this to reflect. This one is highly recommended.
