The Product Is You by Mark Magnacca.......2003-11-22
What a terrific book! I've been in the financial services business for nearly 20 years and have read most of the best books on the market. Mark Magnacca tells you precisely what you need to know and do to differentiate yourself as an advisor/salesperson. There is no doubt after reading this book that THE BEST product we all have to sell in the marketplace today is ourselves. Mark provides a very effective process that I've already applied to my business in just 2 weeks!
Great book and 5 stars!

Blender Cookery.......2007-01-29
I bought this one for my son when he left home for College. Didn't want the poor kid to starve, wanted to show him how easy it is to "produce" meals in a hurry, after all - Milk shakes and Powerdrinks aren't the stuff I wanted for him to live on ! Wow - he really used the book and became quite a "Blender-Cook". He promised to keep and cherish it, maybe even take it into marriage with him . Now THAT's a good book! I use my own blender quite a bit, and I am glad someone finally came out with recipes in print for blenders - only one smallish appliance needed ! It goes beyond the shakes, the smoothies and such. The pureed soups are wonderful, the veggy dips are creamy, the nutbutters delicious.
Love this book!.......2005-11-07
Love this book! I'm not sure why its targetted to men specifically...I think anyone who is into really good food, that is also easy and fun to prepare will love it. I tried the blueberry muffins (they deserve only REAL butter!) - AMAZING; and the quiche is incredibly creamy and savory. This will absolutely become a staple cookbook for me, esp when I want to make a big impression without a big hassle. It's funny, too! Now, a man who makes you laugh AND can cook?? Two words: YUM ME!!

Customer Reviews:
Misleading title........2006-06-02
Despite reading some prior negative reviews, I decided to give this book a try. The book was not up to par with my expectations on two major points:
(1) The title is misleading. Judging from the word "sculptured" and the garment on the cover, I assumed that the emphasis of the book is going to be on fitted patterns (i.e. "sculptured" to follow body lines, like a sculptor "sculpts" a body). Now, this is only my opinion, but I feel that "Textured knits" would probably more accurately reflect the patterns that follow. Except for the lone pattern featured on the cover, there is no spectacular body shaping techniques employed in the garments featured. In that sense, I completely concur with both power-surg's review and Eliza's.
(2) Even if one ignores the misleading title and chooses to approach the book with an open mind, the patterns featured are subpar in quality and design. The stitches and styles are quite dull and passe. Definitely nothing groundbreaking here. You are better off picking up any Rowan or Debbie Bliss book instead.
The bottom line? Don't waste your money on this one.
Misleading and Disappointing.......2006-02-25
I am a 20-something professional looking for a unique way to build my career wardrobe. Out of 41 designs, about 3 met my search, and I feel like I had to "settle" for these. Numerous designs are throws (albeit beautiful), pillow covers, or children's clothes. Nearly all of the clothing designs are from the 80s or early 90s--shapeless/formless, definitely NOT sculptured (?sculptED?). Even the design on the cover needs shaped through the back, and I wouldn't call it a bolero. It wouldn't fit me anyhow, I'm 5"10 with a 34 in bust (a proper height/weight combination), and the small measures a whopping 38 in.
I do like the concept of the book. The subtitle is "Inspired by the decorative arts of the 20th century" . The cover bolero is inspired by Toulouse-Lautrec, another by Tiffany, another by the original watercolors in the Mother Goose books (an exquisite girl's dress, but not based in reality). Another chapter has designs inspired by Garbo, Astaire, Coco Chanel, and Valentino.
So--bottom line-- interesting concept, heavily textured but shapeless designs which I would not wear in public.
What A Waste of Time and Money.......2005-11-06
I bought this book based on the positive reviews it received from other customers as well as the cover pattern. It was delivered today and I just finished printing out the return label from Amazon. While the bolero jacket on the cover does conatain an interesting texture and is attractive, it is the ONLY pattern in the book that, in my opinion, merits a positive review (and even that is a stretch for the "fitted" jacket as the sizing begins at 38" for a small, something that I, with a chest measurement of 32" could never wear without looking rediculous). The other patterns reminded me of 80's and early 90's knitting patterns. That is to say they are primarily shapeless, baggy, uninspiring, and out-dated (here under the guise of being themed after a specific design style, which I, having an art degree, could see no evidence of). They remind me of the free patterns that come with cheap craft store brand yarns (a few throws and pillows were of this nature).
If you do not like the kind of patterns I described, do not be fooled into thinking that there is anything unique or interesting in this book just because the cover pattern is promising. You will just end up wasting your money mailing it back. I suggest at least looking for it in the bookstore first to see what the rest of the book looks like, something I should have done as well.
Challenging but beautiful.......2004-02-14
I am an experienced knitter but haven't done anything in the past years - on one hand because I am too busy - on the other hand because I was searching for something challenging that also looked nice when finished. Well, I search no more. This book gives me all that I need: challenge, beautiful designs and a pretty result that I can wear, give away or have in my home and enjoy. You will not find the usual bulky sweater in this book and the designs are thought through and very artful. I am sure, I will keep knitting things from this book for the next few months and I will keep this book as a very special knitting design book. I have not seen such designs anywhere else yet and would love to see a sequence of sculptured knits soon.
Gorgeous Designs.......2003-03-28
I'm not yet a good enough knitter to make most of these, but it's waaay more inspiring than any other pattern book I've seen. Usually I'm lucky if a book has two patterns that I can imagine wearing more than once; this one I keep paging through and sticking new notes to.
I count 17 patterns for women, 8 for men/teenage boys, 1 unisex jacket, 9 for kids, and 11 for the home (including shawls). The flap says there are 48 patterns total, but I can't figure out what that last one is. Of these, there are 15 patterns that I'd very much like to try and only 4 garments that I hope never to see on anyone, anywhere. There are 17 that I'm pretty sure I _could_ make given my current skill level (I've knitted one scarf and 1-1/2 sweaters, all quite plain); almost none of these happen to be the ones I _want_ to make, so I have a strong incentive to learn to do stuff other than knitting and purling.
Most of the patterns are shown in more than one color, which is helpful if you tend to immediately dismiss a pattern that's in a color you dislike--or to get excited about one that's in your favorite color, whether it would look good on you or not. I had to stick Post-its over the heads of some of the models, but the photographs in general are lovely. XRX makes beautiful books.
I'm very glad I bought this book but have docked it a star because (a) I wish there were some kind of difficulty ratings on the patterns, and (b) the range of sizes is small and vague. I have a feeling the size L will fit snugly on me (I wear a US 14-16), and there's no XL.
Note that there are alternate photos of a few pieces (Fortuny, Lalique, Tiffany, and Klimt) on Jean Moss's web site, jeanmoss.com, where you can order a kit for any project from the book. There _are_ difficulty ratings for some of the projects there: everything I assessed as "difficult" is rated "average" or medium." The ones I considered "doable" are marked "easy."

Best biography I've read in years.......2004-08-26
This is a well-researched, splendidly written biography of a very complex man, a real enigma. Even though the book is a decade old, its subject matter is still relevant today. Highly recommended.
Allen Dulles Committed High Treason.......2004-02-04
Any notion that Allen Dulles was a gentleman is absolutely absurd! He helped Hitler secure funds for his war machine from American and British financial institutions. On behalf of his client, Nelson Rockefeller, Dulles arranged to keep a steady flow of Saudi oil flowing to Nazi Germany throughout the war. He knew about the Holocaust, but didn't lift a finger to help the Jews. Dulles and James Jesus Angleton setup the Nazi Ratline near war's end that smuggled thousands of Nazi war criminals out of Europe to various Middle Eastern states as well as Argentina. After the war, he organized Operation Paperclip to smuggle hundreds of Nazi war criminals from South America into the United States to work for the CIA. He and brother John Foster Dulles committed high treason by providing aid and comfort to the enemy during wartime; crimes for which they should have been executed. Instead, they got an international airport named after John Foster Dulles.
Great Book -- Fantastic life.......2000-12-27
What a great book! If you are a history buff like me, you'll love this book. Allen Dulles, former lawyer, former diplomat, former OSS Operative, former President of the Council on Foreign Relations, for Director of the CIA (under Eisenhower and Kennedy), and brother of the Secretary of State (John Foster Dulles who the airport is named after), and member of the establishment -- this book is quite a treat. It takes us through the post-WWI years and then through WWII where Dulles was stationed for OSS in Bern. It then details the formation and escalation of the Cold War. Grosse does a terrific job detailing Dulles's public and personal lives. Highly recommended.
A well researched American Intelligence history........2000-10-08
I just finished this book and it was an excellent read. The life of Allen Dulles is remarkable and deserves to be known. If you live in the Washington, D.C. area, then this is a required book.
Fascinating look into a fascinating man........1999-05-26
"Gentleman Spy" is more than just the life of one man, Allen Dulles. It's the development of the United States into a super power and of the build-up of a massive intelligence network. At the center or sometimes fringes of all this dwelled Allen Dulles. Dulles' influence on intelligence gathering and covert activities still dominates our country, even though he left the CIA over 35 years ago. His love for the great game of espionage inspired young disciples who in turn became key leaders of the intelligence community. It's easy to praise or blame Dulles for many of the problems that we are still experiencing today due to lack of honest or accurate analysis, or involvment in the affairs of duely elected foreign governments. Peter Grose has mapped Dulles life in this massive biography and has done an excellent job of exploring Dulles' mind as to why he did what he did. The book is never boring. Dulles set the image of the "American Gentleman Spy," as being witty urbane and downright ruthless. Peter Grose has provent hat Dulles blended himself into that image seamlessly.

Combine Little Rascals with Stand by Me, then spice it up with a little taste of the great American sport of baseball, and you'll have an inkling of the treat in store for you in Praying for Base Hits. Bruce Clayton recalls his childhood in the 1950s, recounting pranks and pitfalls. He re-creates an era in American history that has begun to take on the patina of an idyll--from trying to catch a glimpse of the local beauty, "Big Red," to being force-fed gospel by his pious mother while his father, "one of those farm boys who wasn't a big talker but had an opinion on everything," plotted trips to the Kansas City Symphony. You don't have to have experienced the 1950s to love Clayton's charming stories of the dreams, desires, and disappointments of growing up afflicted with the human "condition." --Susan Swartwout
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2006-12-26
I did not grow up in the 1950's (1970's/80's) nor did I grow up in Kansas City, although I lived there for two years. I randomly picked up this book and thought it was excellent. I don't think you need to have any connection to Kansas City or grow up in the time period covered to enjoy this book. I still read it every now and then; it is very good.
I know it's mostly true. I Iived nearby........1998-11-26
Once I began the book I never put it down. Bruce lived five blocks away from me in the same era. I especially remember Shortcake and Roy Beatty. They were friends of mine too. Bruce's recollection of Frank's restaurant was poignant although I didn't remember the dirt, just the heavenly(?) taste of a tenderloin sandwich. As to Old man Pierce, I too was chased from the premises, albeit not for the same reasons. My home was across from Scarrit grade school. Bruce no doubt played baseball there too. I do remember Lykins Square where we played the kids from "south of Independence Avenue" on many occasion, probably losing more than we won. This was a great step back to my own childhood. NE grad 1954.
An excellent memoir about the beauty of baseball and life.......1998-08-25
This memoir of growing up in Kansas City in the 1950s is much more than nostalgia. It is an evocation of the importance of baseball in a young person's life, the ambitions of youth, and the impact of family, friends and neighbors. The characters are wonderful, and the whole book is beautifully written. It's a good read, humorous and poignant.
