Book Description
This text, with its accompanying documentary Handbook for Global Business Law, substantially revises and updates the very popular first edition of Global Business Law (by David Frisch and Raj Bhala). In doing so, this second edition provides students of international business law (especially in law schools but also in practice) with a clear "story line" that addresses key questions facing international business lawyers as they advise clients on the three main forms of international business -- commercial sales, licensing & franchising, and foreign direct investment. In particular, the new edition provides helpful chapter overviews and Study Questions to highlight key elements to be drawn from the material. These new features -- together with a streamlining of case reports and secondary materials, a modest restructuring of the topics presented, additional illustrations and sample forms, and an updating from the earlier edition -- combine to make this text a clean and comprehensive introduction to the principles and practice of global business law.

Book Description
Global Business Law is designed for what is now a standard course in the curriculum of both American and many overseas law schools: "International Business Transactions" (frequently abbreviated as "IBT"), which is sometimes called "International Business Law." Authors Frisch and Bhala have designed this book to "globalize" teachers and students alike, better preparing them for the global economy of the 21st century. They explore the increasing popularity of multinational corporations (MNCs), arguing that these are as if not more important actors in the global community than all but a handful of foreign national governments.
The excerpts chosen for Global Business Law convey a wide range of legal and policy problems and risk issues in global business, edited in a way that allows the reader to get as complete a picture as possible about these problems. The learning experience provided by this book is cumulative each part, and each chapter of each part, builds on its predecessor in a logical fashion. The text is designed to be "user-friendly" for both the student and the professor, with chapters of equal length and difficulty that can be spaced out over a semester course.
Global Business Law aims at the present or aspiring world citizens who are going to practice, and world law professors who are going to teach, in an increasingly borderless world.
The materials in the document supplement, which are cross-referenced in the casebook, facilitate the exploration of each topic, as do the questions in the casebook. The teacher's manual contains suggested answers.

Success Principles.......2000-06-23
Clement Stone outlines the guiding prinicples necessary for true success. Building upon Napolean Hill's wisdom, Stone provides you with the Mental Thought Paterns required to achieve Health, Wealth, and Happiness. Although he uses somewhat outdated language, I recomend this audio for anyone wanting more out of life.

Life lessons.......2003-08-14
"H" White did a wonderful job of putting his "life lessons" on paper to share with the world. I would recommend this book to young and old. If Howard White was able to impart knowledge into some of the greatest athletes of our time (Jordan, Malone, Barkley, Cooper) surely he has something for you.
Wonderful Motivation.......2003-07-17
This book is a wonderful tool to help you establish your goals and provide you with realistic steps to getting there. The format of the book is very intuitiave. I'm having my 12 year old read it next!

A must for parents of children with disabilities.......2005-06-13
Author Mary Falvey's advice is so cutting edge, sensitive, practical, and visionary. She fully understands inclusive education from preschool through postsecondary options and beyond, to life in inclusive communities. Mary is personally and professionally connected to those individuals with the most significant disabilities. She shares information on to promote your child's access to the general curriculum, how to get the school to use appropriate modifications and assessment strategies, how to encourage friendships, how to work collaboratively with the school, how to problem solve, and what your legal rights are. To keep current as a special education attorney, I have read over a hundred books in this field. Believe In My Child will join the ranks of the small handful of books I recommend to my clients.

I listened to the audio version as read by the author.
There are only so many ways to present the basic self-help message of believing in one's self. Mr. Hanna manages to be positive and upbeat without being either preachy or self-congratulatory. I came away convinced that he really does care about helping others.

Praise for James Waller's Drinkology:
The most extensive and straightforward of the bar books...
-Minneapolis Star Tribune
The one to reach for...
-USA Today
In a restaurant, do you always let somebody else order the wine? When you hear someone say, "Sherry," do you think, "Who's she?" Does trying to recall the difference between a Pinot Noir and a Pinot Gris defeat you? Does selecting a wine from a wine shop's shelves unnerve you? Suffer no more. With Drinkology WINE, James Waller, author of the successful cocktail handbook Drinkology, offers a guide to understanding wine that's written with you-the novice oenophile-in mind.
Witty and accessible, Drinkology WINE begins with a basic wine vocabulary. To explain how wine is made, Waller then takes you on a visit to a working winery. He demystifies wine tasting, showing you how to do it just like a pro. Chapters on red and white wine grapes and on sparkling wines equip you with fundamental knowledge. And Waller's tour of the wine world is conducted from your local wine shop: the place you're most likely to encounter wine in all its breathtaking-sometimes intimidating-variety. Stylish in its presentation yet assuming no prior knowledge of the subject, Drinkology WINE is an invaluable resource for the wine neophyte and an entertaining refresher course for the more experienced oenophile.
Customer Reviews:
Verve and Wit.......2006-07-01
Once again, James Waller enlists the aid of his partners, Verve and Wit, to present his views on the enjoyment of alcohol consumption. Every few pages I felt inspired to go out and buy a bottle of wine, but I couldn't put down the book.
Being a happy drinker myself, I'm delighted when one of my favorite comestibles is described by a connoisseur with a sense of humor. Oenologists can seem drier than their wines. To the dry, I prefer the droll.
Enjoy the reading. It's (almost) as much fun as the drinking.
Don't know the first thing about wine? This is a good place to start........2005-11-22
Once again, you find yourself in a restaurant, looking down at the wine list-or standing in the middle of your local wine shop, staring at the endless bottles of wine. But you don't know the first thing about wine. That's where Drinkology WINE comes in. In the introduction, Waller starts with a few promises. He promises not to assume that the reader knows anything about wine. And he promises to focus on wines in a moderate price range, for the average drinker (as opposed to the wine collector). And, for the most part, he sticks to his promises.
The book starts with the basics. You'll learn about the vocabulary as well as the winemaking process. Then you get into the details-and this is where you'll want to get out your highlighters and a pen and paper. Waller goes on to describe the main varieties of both red and white wines-with advice about which ones to try and which ones to avoid. And he ends with a trip through your local wine shop, traveling from one winemaking country to another.
Waller puts readers right at ease. There's nothing snobbish about him. His style is light and relaxing, with even a little bit of humor thrown in from time to time. That's not to say, of course, that the book isn't still overwhelming at times. With all the different varieties and vintages and wine-makers to cover, how can it not be? But Drinkology WINE does an excellent job of making such a vast topic feel a little more manageable.
After reading this book, you won't be an expert, but you'll definitely feel more knowledgeable. More importantly, you'll feel more confident about stepping into the wine shop-or choosing from the wine list. And that's a big step in the right direction.

Book Description
This legendary book was first published in English in 1990. It has been re-translated and extensively revised, including material not found in the original translation. It is Altshuller's most popular book in Russia on how to become an inventor, and how to solve technical problems. The translator, Lev Shulyak, is himself an accomplished inventor, engineer and TRIZ expert.
Customer Reviews:
Brief introduction of Deceptively simple material.......2005-09-27
Don't be fooled by the description as an "introduction" in the same way most technical fields have "Executive level" texts written for them.... By introduction, the meaning is more "Brief explanation" and "Brief" being in contrast to "Wordy" rather than "Simple, dumbed down but useless in practice."
There is an immense amount of information in the few pages, and the concepts are deceptively simple.... I find I can only make it through a chapter or two at a time before my brain is full from thinking about how to use the ideas offered.....
I am surprised that this sort of material has not been offered at the University level to engineering students -- it would be a perfect fit.
What could TRIZ do in a free, efficient society?.......2002-01-28
I became intrigued by Genrich Altshuller and TRIZ after reading about him in Salon.com a couple years ago. This introduction to his ideas is well worth the money. I just find it ironic that Altshuller developed his theory in a society stereotyped by Western conservative and libertarian intellectuals (e.g., Ayn Rand) as totally lacking incentives for intellectually demanding productive achievements. Altshuller's empirically rigorous inquiry into the real nature of inventive problem solving, based on the Soviet-era equivalent of patents (which shouldn't even have existed, according to some Westerners), discredits the view that the communist system destroyed human initiative.
Too bad Altshuller had to spend his life in such a bureaucratic and inefficient society. If he had been able to introduce TRIZ effectively into the United States back in the 1950's, perhaps we wouldn't be facing some of the technological nuisances we're dealing with now. As it is, some of his dedicated followers have migrated to the West, and are introducing TRIZ into American technical and engineering education. Altshuller's book, unlike how-to-invent books written by Americans, isn't burdened with discussions about the patent process and using one's inventions to make money, which wouldn't have made sense in the Soviet context any way. Instead it's full of real-life examples showing how the principles he discovered can be applied to the real world.
One major drawback in the book, however, is Altshuller's assumption that the reader is better educated than is usually the case in the United States. His comments about what high-school students are supposed to know about physics reveal that the Soviet school system, unlike America's democratically-meddled-with counterpart, didn't dumb down the science curriculum in response to political pressures.
The 'must' first TRIZ book to read.......2001-12-01
TRIZ is not a simple method although it is a very powerful thinking tool yet to be defeated in the technical problem solving arena. This book is a piece of Masterity on how to easily and with entertainment explain the basics of TRIZ. Any person, notonly engineers, wanting to know what TRIZ can do, should pass a very good time reading the book. For the younger, this book will let an influence for searching exploring and solving! problems. Translated also into spanish, the book is a best selling all over the world.
Best TRIZ introduction available........1999-03-01
This is the best introduction to TRIZ available. H.Altov (G.Altshuller) explain many aspects of TRIZ, but don't expect to become a TRIZ master with only this lecture. I recommend this book for those TRIZ is a new subject. Engineers! It's a must have!
Perfect for pupils.......1997-12-01
This book, written by Altshuller (the creator of TRIZ) under a pseudonym, is aimed at secondary school students and while not rigorous in its development, provides an entertaining look at how the methods of TRIZ can be applied to a variety of problems. Semyon D. Savransky, Ph.D. (TRIZnik)

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Originally published in 1918, this work discusses the land tax reform which was then one of the foremost fiscal problems in China, and forms an introduction to a larger study of the early fiscal system of the country in which the land tax has played such an eminent role. Chinese literature contains a wealth of materials on fiscal and financial subjects, covering a period of no less than four thousand years.
From earliest time until comparatively recent days the land tax was the Chinese government's main source of revenue.

Book Description
This book brings the strategies of the battlefield to the global coliseum of business competition. The winning military strategies at Thermoyplae, Gettysburg, Waterloo, Iwo Jima, Desert Storm, and more have become the strategies of companies like HP, Wal-Mart, AOL, and GE. From old-line industries to e-commerce startups and for an entire corporation, division, or department, offered here in practical format, with real world examples, are winning battlefield strategies that can become the business reader's own.
Customer Reviews:
Ten War Strategies that Often Apply in Business.......2001-07-27
This book's focus is on the idea of strategy as it is used to determine how opponents deploy and apply their resources against one another. The book superbly describes ten strategies that are often taken from the war context and applied to business.
To get a sense of what these strategies are, let me mention a few. One of the opening examples is of General MacArthur's campaign in the Pacific. He identified an island-hopping approach that would avoid battles on as many places as possible, while obtaining air and sea superiority to bomb and blockade both islands to be attacked and those to be starved out with as much impunity as possible. Thus, he was able to roll-back the Japanese advances with as few troops and casualties as possible. A less good strategy would simply have attacked each island in turn with ground troops brought in by the Navy. The other examples include Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, Patton's landing in North Africa, Moses preparing to enter the Promised Land, Desert Storm, the US, UK, and USSR alliance in World War II, rebuffing Napoleon's invasion of Russia, the Spartans at Thermopylae, Sherman's march through Georgia, Viet Nam, and special forces in Somalia. I thought that each example was well-chosen, clear, and interesting.
The book also contains many worthwhile quotes, and even an extra section of them at the end. "There is no such thing as a fair fight." SEAL Commander T.L. Bosiljevac
The book mostly cites well-known, large company examples to make the connection to business strategy. The author argues that "what is new is the increasing introduction . . . of strategy into the business arena." Although business now speaks the language of war quite often ("Annihilate the Red Army of Coca-Cola"), I think that is more a function of many business leaders have gotten their first leadership training in the military than of military thinking dominating business strategy. Also, people applied these strategies in business, long before they spoke about them in military terms. So I would argue that what we really have is a rise in the use of military strategy as a metaphor in business.
Dr. Laurie is not sympathetic to other metaphors for strategy. "Much silliness has been written of late that encourages kissy-kissy, I win, you win, we all win approaches to business."
The weakness to thinking of strategy solely in terms of competition is that it can draw focus away from better serving customers. As Peter Drucker reminds us all, "The purpose of a business is to create a customer."
This book will be of the most use to people who are in industries where the cast of competitors rarely shifts, few changes occur in the environment, and head-on attacks don't make much sense. To be helpful in more fluid environments, I suspect that the book would have had to focus solely around ten outstanding strategies of guerilla warfare instead.
I was pleased to see that the book does a fine job of putting strategy into context of having great people, a proper mission (something that most companies lack, even those with good-sounding mission statements), wonderful understanding of the current and future environment, superb execution of appropriate tactics, and fine communications. Research has shown that a fine strategy is not enough. Most of the challenge is in execution. But if you do a good job of executing the wrong strategy, that will harm you.
After you finish reading this book, can you think of other metaphors that can help you formulate more effective strategies? Some recent ones written about in business books have included improvisational theater, jazz, and judo. I wonder how families, politics, and emergency work could inform our choices, as well.
Use your resources in the best ways!
