This second volume of Developments in European Company Law, published under the auspices of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies' Centre for Corporate Law and Practice, focuses on the quest for a legal form for small businesses. The debate as to whether the traditional registered company, perhaps with some modification, is an appropriate vehicle for small enterprises has continued in Britain, and to a lesser extent in Europe, for well over thirty years. The imperative behind reform in this area of the law in many cases will be political and this is perhaps most dramatically illustrated in the case of South Africa. The British heritage of South African law renders South Africa's approach to developing appropriate legal forms for small enterprises of considerable interest to Europe. Consequently, the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in collaboration with the Centre for Business Law of the University of the Orange Free State organised a conference in London in the Autumn of 1997 on the search for an ideal form for small businesses. The discussions were chaired by Professor A.J. Boyle and Professor Johan Henning and ranged across a broad spectrum of issues. In compiling this volume of presentations the editors have focused on those of most direct relevance to the debate in Europe and in particular in the United Kingdom, in keeping with the orientation of this series towards European Law.

The recipes are great, beautiful, wonderful, and most importantly-just about fool proof! Try the lemon poppy seed cake with the blueberry topping. It alone I think was worth the price of the book. The only time I messed a recipe up was when I was to impatient to wait for a pan of custard to cool. Stunning recipes for a novice cook.

I went to school(BICC in Baltimore)for baking and pastry and can only wish that I had had these guys as teachers. Very informative with easy to use directions. They explain every thing very thoroughly and I gotta tell you the pie dough recipe is excellent. I am no longer afraid to attempt pie making!!! If you are into desserts and want a good book with some great recipes go for this one to start your collection. You just can't go wrong.

Even A Lug Like Me Can Bake.......2003-04-30

Baking always seemed impossible to me - I'd be lucky to get anything to rise, my food would always weigh a ton and, basically, unless someone really loved me, they probably wouldn't eat more than a couple bites. But with Baking for Dummies, all that has changed. I now whip out cupcakes, breads
and pastry with ease. I can't say enough about the handy tips that the author includes, I've found them extremely useful with other recipies as well. I'm fattening up my office mates with the bounty from my oven and finding that there is great piece of mind in baking.

I don't know if this is the same book.
I bought a book from Emily Nolan it was part of the books for dummies collection; (The one I have has a Pie and a Cake and a buch of cookies for display in the front cover) But if it's the same book all I have to say is that it cover everything you need to know from baking cookies to more extravagent things (didn't finish the book yet I am in chapter thirteen lol) I have baked all types of cookies, pound cakes, cheesecake, apple pies, and next it's chocolat pudding from scratch. And I have made everyone I know taste what I have done. It's been a huge success so far. So if you love food, and you want to learn how to bake pick this book up. I guarantee you are not going to be disapointed

This book not only has great recipes but some really wonderful information. It helps understand the ingredients used, the tools necessary and some great techniques for making the best cookies. I am really glad I got this book. Living abroad makes it a bit more difficult to find some of the ingredients but the ingredient substitutions cheat sheet and the measurement equivalents (sticks of butter are not available everywhere you know)still allowed me to enjoy the recipes.

I can't believe more people haven't reviewed this book! It's been especially helpful to me because I bought my bread machine 2nd hand and it didn't come with a direction or recipe book. Most books for bread machines have instructions that say "add ingredients according to manufacturer's directions" well, if you don't have a manual, you're not sure what to do. This book solved that problem as the directions say to put the ingredients into the pan in the order that they're listed. A huge help to me!

The information contained in this book, from explaining what all the ingredients do and how they interact together to the helpful hints, possible "danger" areas, and shopping tips are invaluable. If you're new to bread machines or baking in general, you can't go wrong with this book. I think it's a must have.

Beginners or bread experts will like this book.......2001-01-08

I read through this book before my bread machine even arrived. It has more than just great recipes, it's packed full of everything you could want to know about bread and bread making. It has an easy to follow format and even a good dose of humor. I don't own other bread machine recipe books yet, but this one was not at all intimidating .

Leuchtenburg, and esteemed historian of the Roosevelt era, examines the profound, lasting impact of Roosevelt's policies on America for many decades following his presidency and how future presidents have operated in Roosevelt's shadow. (The book will need to be revised again due to the Bush plan to privatize Social Security - although FDR's original plan was more modest than the current system, significantly expanded in years after FDR).

Roosevelt influence is still great - the greatest of any modern president.

A great read and a Betsy-Tacy link.......2002-10-30

This book was a wonderful insight into the mind of a woman and artist in the early twentieth century. Growing Pains follows the story of Wanda Gag from age 12 to 22 or 23. It is fascinating to see how different life was at that time, and watch a woman with vast creativity and talent as she struggles to survive the poverty of her childhood. How poignant the destitution of her early years, as well as her discovery and development of her talent. Wanda Gag was also a very introspective person, and had a decided trancendentalist slant. It is interesting to read her philosophies about the self which apply even today. I think this book would appeal to people who have an interest in the early twentieth century or illustration. I also recommend it to fans of the Betsy-Tacy books, as Wanda grew up in New Ulm, MN, not far from Mankato (Deep Valley) and during the same time period. She also appears to be aquainted with Delos Lovelace (the husband of Maud Hart Lovelace (the real Betsy) who wrote the series). Later in the book she mentions going to a concert or play with tickets given to her by Delos Lovelace (Before he ever met Maud!). Overall this book was very good and I was extremely sorry to reach the last page.

More specifically, what could be more down to earth than The Project Surgeon: A Troubleshooter's Guide to Business Crisis Management, by Boris Hornjak (Project Management Institute, 130 pages, paperback, [...]). The publicists pitch this one as a hands-on troubleshooting manual for operational managersýand they're not far off. Although the book isn't specifically about IT, the guidelines that Hornjak lays down can be applied by almost any IT manager who has to regularly put out fires while simultaneously moving forward on several fronts.

Hornjak, a 17-year veteran project manager, covers business recovery in three partsýEmergency Management, Crisis Management and Crisis Prevention.

Emergencies are projects handled quickly, Hornjak writes; they have a beginning, middle and an end and can be metered, guided and analyzed, just like any other project.

Almost more valuable than the prose and the tips are the charts, checklists and examples of the analytics that not only mark a project's progress, but also show when it should be cut loose and when it's already too late to do so.
