We have a lot of fun trying new drinks in this book. It has a handy index in the back if you want to find drinks with a certain ingredient (orange juice, tequila, etc.), which we use all the time. Cheers!

Clever, but missing a bit.......2006-06-21

The reason I give this book three stars is this: It lists drinks under the types of alcohol in them, and it lists the types of alcohol as these - Vodka, Whiskey, Scotch, Bourbon, Tequila, Brandy, and Rum. Scotch and Bourbon are both Whiskeys. And where's the Gin? Cute little book, though, pleasantly written and colorful.

The best bartending book you can buy.......2001-08-09

A must for anyone going off to school. It lists all the tools and teckniques for starting youre own bar. Loaded with lots of bartending tips for beginers and every drink you could every have a craving for. The book has lots of sections with catagorise of drinks (as well as an easy index). This is a great feature for a party. Just look up Scotch or something and it has all the drinks you could want that have it in them. As well as some helpfull hangover tips at the end of the book. A listing of hundreds of micro brews (and how to find them). A nice intoduction to the wonderfull world of wine. To top it all off its the book of choice for my local bartender who has been servin em up for years.

I did find lots of useful information and backgroud history on the liqueurs and drinks discussed in the book.Whick is great for beginners.What I didn't like about this book was the drink recipes where not put in alphabetical order.So if you where looking to make an Alabama Slammer you would have to know to go to the Bourbon section of this book.If you are working behind the bar you dont have time to waste looking through the table of content.I hear that Mr.Bostons Bartending guide is good.

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a borderless world, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world\'s major cities for "long tons of recovered elemental sulfur by weight" for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in most cities of the world. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world\'s cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. This report takes the broader definition and considers, therefore, a city as a part of the global market.

I disagree with the previous reviewers of this book. I am a compulsive mitten knitter and I totally love this book.

The colors and yarns used in the projects are traditional - in fact the mittens and gloves featured in the book were collected by the author in the Shetland Islands. The beginning of the book includes a brief history of Fair Isle kitting, along with some instruction on special techniques that are used by Shetland Island knitters. If you are the least bit interested in traditional knitting techniques, you'll be very happy with Knitting Fair Isle Mittens & Gloves.

The photographs show the palm and the back of the hand for each pair, so you can easily compare them to adjacent charts.

I would definitely recommend this book. It includes basic patterns for gloves and mittens for women and children, with charts in many styles and colors. And there's a bonus lace glove pattern in the back.

My favorite projects are the fingerless gloves, which provide an easy way for mitten knitters to ease into glove knitting. Not to mention that fingerless gloves are incredibly popular right now, so there are a slew of ideas for gifts to knit.

(The only thing missing is a pattern for men's gloves, but you can easily convert any of the women's patterns to a man's size by using a slightly heavier yarn and going up a needle size.)

This book is full of beautiful gloves and mittens but beware of mistakes. There are errors in materials needed-amount of yarn. Errors in number of stitches to cast on and mistakes in the knitting charts. If you are an experienced knitter you will be able to find the problems, beginners will have a problem.

The good points about "Knitting Fair Isle Mittens and Gloves:

1. There are patterns of all sizes, including kids' sizes.
2. The gloves have the Fair Isle motifs placed in various ways, giving you ideas for designs of your own.
3. There are fingerless gloves patterns, fun to do and they have some utility as well as being funky-stylish.
4. The introduction has some interesting reading and historical pictures.

The not-so-good points about this book:

1. The colorways are not exciting--rather mundane, in my opinion.
2. The photography is not top-notch.
3. The color and printing are also second-rate.

If you love doing gloves, you may enjoy the color patterns in this book. I like them--they make great gifts and are fun to knit. If you only knit gloves occasionally, a basic glove pattern would do you fine, and you can figure out how to put Fair Isle style patterns on them yourself from knitting charts. You probably can also figure out how to adjust the size and how to do a fingerless glove. It's not rocket science, after all.

Recommendation: Only if you really like knitting gloves and like colorwork, or want to use the ideas as a springboard for your own creativity. And of course, it's good for those who love small projects. Not the prettiest book, but useful with those reservations.

Idaho hasn't always been this way.......2001-11-12

Politics Western Style should be required reading for every voter or future voter in Idaho and Washington. Andrus' book is rare among political memoirs; he relates his experiences while not overinflating his role. The book is written in a style that befits Idaho's last Democratic governor, humorous, insightful, and never too urbane. Before he was "The Guv" Andrus was a logger, and his writing demonstrates the intelligence of the man while never, as they say in West Virginia, "gittin' 'buv his raisins". While not every Idahoan agreed with Andrus, they voted for him because, just like his book, Andrus stayed true to who he was. This book provides not only good stories, but a roadmap to responsible government. Read it.

Awesome! Totally Awesome!.......1999-01-19

Well...I was assigned to read this book for my poli sci class and at first, thought it was going to be boring...boy was i wrong;) This book is great! It bears down in detail the things Andrus fought through while being the Secretary of the Interior under President Jimmy Carters cabinet. It also tells you the environmental issues that he fought through to preserve things such as the spawning grounds for salmon and a lot more. Anyways...If I where you, I'd read this book. It rocks!

How refreshing! A politician you can look up to!!.......1998-12-04

Yes, Cecil Andrus is a politician, but he also is a man almost everyone could admire. His book tells about how he came to the political world, and how he learned how to successfully navigate and maintain his dignity. A book Bill Clinton, Newt Gringrich and George Bush Jr should read to pick up a few pointers on character, doing the right thing and keeping the work of the people foremost in their minds. A great read.

Good political insight to how Idaho works!.......1998-11-01

Andrus does a good job of showing just how ad hoc the situation is in Idaho and how subject it is to outside influence. For a State that had a population of independant thinkers Idaho has done a poor job of perserving its way of life. Folks are slow to make up their mind and difficult to organize. Because of this big money from outside and inside the state can do things before the people can bring themselves to react. I was raised as a poor farm boy in the southern part of the state and have live all over the world since. Still have a small farm there and try to participate in the local politics as an amatuer pundit if that is not a paradox?

In recent years there has been an enormous amount of research into the way companies raise finance from stock markets. There are many reasons for this interest in 'initial public offerings' (IPOs): DT the capital-raising function of stock markets is particularly important in financing firms and encouraging entrepreneurship and growth DT the late 1990s witnessed an IPO boom in many countries, with unprecedented numbers of companies going public DT two stylized facts appear to be valid in many countries: IPOs are initially systematically underpriced, often by dramatic amounts, and over the longer term they seem to under-perform other companies. a good interpretation of the academic literature.......2000-05-12

Financial economists (academics) have an interesting way of interpreting the world. When it comes to IPOs, what practitioners think and do and what the academics "think" that they do are often different.

This book is a solid contribution for those who what the academic IPO literature interpreted for them. It succeeds admirably at what it does, which is to interpret the findings of a lot of published studies in the finance journals that are hard to wade through unless you are a PhD in economics.

I teach finance to MBAs and this book was an excellent review and synthesis for me and fairly accessible to my MBAs. I understand the book has been updated in '99. That is good, since this topic is still in flux.

This is NOT a "how to" go public book. It is a valuable conpendium of how economists think about IPOs.

Good basic textbook on IPO's.......2000-04-03

If you're lookin for an extensive overview of all the basic theories of IPOs, this is a good book. It's like an "IPOs for Dummies". Focus is a bit too much on Underpricing, however. I missed good overviews of Long Term Underperformance and Hot Issue Markets. Quite old (1996) so a lot of important work is not covered. New version was released 1999.
