Though the book was titled, "Manage Globally, think Locally,", the material often did not discuss global issues. Clearly, this was written with a local HP mentality, with little, if any, fresh ideas.

A must for any quilling library shelf.......2007-08-30

This is a very good book for beginners and intermediate quillers. The first pages give clear directions to get started and the photos show real hands holding the tools and creating the shapes so you can get a feel for the technique.

The projects are nicely laid out, with clear directions and the patterns are full size. My daughter and I found lots of projects and ideas we want to try. There are simple projects and more complex ones to try once you ready and a nice variety. I am looking forward to making the Welcome sign once I have mastered some simpler projects.

Some reviewers on Amazon said they felt the book wasn't good for beginners because the projects were too "perfect" and some were to complicated. I disagree. I appreciate a book that includes simple projects and more advanced as well so that it is useful even as my skill grows.

In summary I would recommend this book for any one who wants to learn quilling beyond making a few scrapbook embellishments.

very nice book.......2005-11-01

This book is very nice, just not alot for me. It does have some bugs and seasonal stuff in it but not to much boyish stuff. Dont get me wrong, this is a very good book with lots of stuff in it, just no to much for boys. I do like the patterns they have in it. The seasonal things like leaves, snowflakes, christams trees and more make awesome patterns and projects. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn quilling or make some advanced designs.

This book has a very good "how to" section and some patterns even a beginning quiller can do.

Good Sample Pictures, but. . ........2004-02-25

I read this book after reading about quilling in one of my magazines, except that they used twistie-ties. I learned a lot, but I think that they should have started out with some easier projects for really beginning beginners. Some of the pictures were just too perfect to be real. My aunt has a friend who teaches paper arts, and even SHE thought that no one could make anything THAT perfect. Otherwise, I liked it, because the directions were really clear.

Dame Margaret Anstee was born in the 1920s to a poor family in rural Essex. With the support of her parents and through her own determination, she graduated from Cambridge with first class honours, and entered the Foreign Office where she worked with the spy Donald Maclean shortly before his defection with Guy Burgess.

Inspiring Story Told By An Amazing Woman.......2004-07-12

Margaret Joan Anstee's life reads like the script of an epic movie: financially challenged semi-rural childhood redeemed by her parents' commitment to educating their daughter (not at all common in the early part of the 20th century), the intervention of a few kind and well-connected teachers, and the serious smarts of Anstee herself. From rationing and loss associated with World War II to the hallowed halls of Oxford to just about every important geopolitical event of the latter half of the last century, Anstee brings to life the people and places that colored her life (and impacted the world!).

Anstee writes with a sense of humor and bemusement. Relating an episode wherein she and a girlfriend are kept as virtual hostages by a pair of elderly women from whom they had rented a room, one gets more a sense of amusement at the whole event rather than an impression of terror. This attitude of welcoming and seeking adventure and the improbable permeates the entire book and is shown to be a key value that led Anstee into her globehopping life.

Anstee relentlessly confronted the limitations that others continuually tried to place upon her. Her gender, social class, education and even religion could have prevented her from accomplishing even a fraction of what is related here and no one would have cast even the smallest amount of blame. But she not only overcomes these obstacles but actually triumphs over them. Anstee is a true inspiration and an amazing woman.

"Never Learn To Type" is a highly recommended book for anyone who wants to learn from the example of one who never quit even when given more than ample opportunity to do so, who wishes a backstage pass to key events of her time or who just wants to enjoy a good story of a life well lived.
